Bella's POV:
I stared in disbelief at the empty sky as I stood in the middle of the room, turning as the sound of the door resounded around the wrecked room. I immediately clutch Cas closer with one arm, before I threw up a defensive spell, letting out a surprised gasp as the door opened to reveal a thin, small, and dainty woman with Edward's bronze-colored hair walking into the room.
I stared at her, hesitation clear on my face as I took her in. She was wearing her long, thick tresses in an intricate braid. From where I stand, I can see a few sections creating one braid before it is weaved to become much larger braids that combine into one larger one. Dainty, wildflowers, pins, and ribbons weaved into it, making her hair look redder than Edward's.
I can see her features in Edward and Cas. Her eyes were the color of the Caspian Sea. Almost as hypnotizing as Edward's, but the deep blue was missing there.
The smell of pine trees, mixed with the scent of sandy dunes, salty air, and something smoky hit my nose as she stood there. The few wisps of hair that managed to escape the intricate braiding danced in the wind, the air now mixing to smell of wildflowers along with the other smells.
I frowned, my mind running through the origin of the smell, wondering if the kingdom of Vespera had an ocean inside or near it.
The thoughts were pushed back as I noticed her taking a step closer.
"W-who are you?" I asked, carefully.
"Relax, young one, I am not here to harm you." She reassured as she walked in, and began assessing the damage to the room. "I wouldn't have come through the door had I wished to harm you. Now, calm down. I am Edward's mother." She confirms my suspicions.
I nod, relaxing my shoulders slightly before rolling my head and my shoulders, "What has happened? Is Edward alright?" I asked, concerned.
She nods, "Aye," She says before turning to assess the damage, "They always do this." She huffs, before shaking her head and touching something on the wall.
A thick metal wall began to come out of the floor, as she stood there. The small humming caused me to frown as we stood there, shifting from foot to foot as Cas began to whimper, and let out a small cry.
She turns slowly, as she hears the cries, a small smile lighting up her face, as she eyes the bundle I cradle to my chest. I lower my arm, revealing his face as she stares on. "This must be my new grandchild. Handsome lad, isn't he?" She softly says, smiling as she stares at Cas. "Looks just like my Edward when he was a youngling." She replies.
I remain quiet but nod in response slowly, unsure of what to say as I bounce Cas in my arms, shifting from foot to foot uncomfortably. His cries cause him to flush red as he pulls at my dress.
"You look like you are about to drop from exhaustion, dear. That and the lad looks to be hungry too..." She notes as she mumbles something in her native tongue, causing Cas to make a small noise and slowly calm down. "Come then on, sweetheart. I'll show you to your new room. We're going to have to relocate you to a different section of the castle since apparently, I've raised a bunch of animals." She sighed, motioning for me to follow her, too exhausted to put up a fight I slowly trudged after her.
We walked down a wide, and long corridor that had the walls made of stone. It was lit up with torches, and the flooring had thick, red, plush carpeting, muffling our steps as she walked ahead of me. The comparison between the forest-green colored walls, which had a white crown molding to the top of it, to these made me sad for a moment.
Despite the walls being of hardstone, there were pictures hung on the walls of the houses of each patron and matriarch of the house. Starting from the first Dragon, Obsidian the Just, and Gemma the All-Knowing. Each son or daughter carried the Dragon kingdom to greatness. Including Carlisle, who was known for being harsh, and Esme the Fair and Wise.
Edward too has a reputation for being quick, wise, and law-abiding, along with his brothers. Jasper, who was known to be one of the best tacticians in the realms, and Emmett for being a brute, reckless, and rash at times.
It is known that Jasper was abandoned by his parents at the entry of the castle shortly after Edward was born and that Carlisle and Esme immediately brought him in, and raised him as their own. They did attempt to search for his parents but soon discovered that they were not in any of the supernatural realms.
Aside from that, it was discovered besides the fact that he has two half-sisters both within the Elysuim sector, my home, and two half brothers one in Vespera and the other in the Elysianth, location unknown, but nothing else is known. Not why he was left at the doorstep of Vespera or why only he was left.
I know little about Emmett personally, except that his parents were both murdered during a mission to save one of the realms in Angmar, within the Ucisos sector. It is known that his mother was a witch and that she was in one of the families that once ruled the sector. As for his father, it was later known that he was an exiled man who was once from the Nyxara.
This is all within the personal lexicon of all the royal families and their histories.
I am sure that at one point all realms used to be one, or that they all have at least one familial tie to one another throughout history, but I cannot be sure, since about half of the lexicon is heavily guarded back in Elysianth.
I sigh and shake myself out of my thoughts before blinking as I notice we turn and went down a hall that is no longer made of stone but of marble, sea rock, and other materials alike. There are pearls which varied sizes and colors, along with a few precious stones. The floor had a soft seafoam color, and the doors were enchanted to reflect. Like sparkling water on a seashore.
I held back a smile as I looked around, amazed that it reminded me so much of the palace back in Ocecia. She must be a direct descendant of the royal family there. Maybe even a child of King Triton and Queen Odina themselves.
I had so many questions, and so little answers, even if there was evidence that pointed to my beliefs, I did not want to make assumptions, especially about the Queen of Vespera.
I would ask, at the right moment. Now, was not it, even I knew that.
"I am sure you probably have a lot of questions and are probably hungry, and in need of a long, hot bath. I will have a bath drawn for you, or you can rest. Either way, I'll have a fresh set of clothes brought for you, and the babe in case you do. You should be alright for now. In any case, if you need something, just tap on that small golden button but the door and I will personally be here to tend to whatever you may need." She says as she stops in front of two massive, thick, white oak doors, which are arched at the top.
I feel my jaw drop as I walk into the room. The room is much like the hallway. The flooring is a combination of white oak and plush sea foam-colored carpet. The bed is a massive bed made of white oak. The bedding looks warm, and inviting.
I notice that the room has golden accents on the walls. The ceiling looks like a reflection of the underwater realm, and in the corner, there is a large white bassinet.
"This shall be your room. Do you wish for me to have anything brought to you from your home?" She asks me.
I shake my head slowly from side to side and point down to my satchel. "No, ev-everything we need is here. I have enchanted this satchel to carry anything I may need." I replied.
She eyes the satchel before stepping back, "Do you need help with anything else?" She asked me, quietly.
I shake my head, before hesitating, "Do you know where I- When I will be able to see Edward again?" I timidly asked as I looked down at the floor beneath my feet.
She smiled, "As soon as his father finishes having some words with him and his brothers about the events that took place earlier today and the occurrence that you witnessed. I doubt he'll manage the strength to stay away, especially with the seasons shifting soon in this realm." She informed me.
I blinked, "Oh-Uh- I see. Th-Thank you for-for answering my questions, your majesty." I responded, bowing my head slightly in respect, unable to do a full curtsy as I was still holding Cas.
She gave me a sincere smile, "Don't bow to me, young one. I am just your soon-to-be mother-in-law. You are about to become family to me, we do not enforce etiquette here when it is just family around. I shall explain to you the rules some other time. Get some rest for now, both of you." She tells me before turning and walking out without another word.
The moment she walks out I move to place a protection charm, and lock around the room before moving in the direction of the four-poster bed.
I carefully pull Cas out of the sling, rotating my shoulders in relief as I lay him down on the bed, before pulling off the sling, and my satchel, carefully placing them onto the bedside table. Then kicking off my shoes, before crawling onto the bed and falling into an exhausted sleep.
I am woken up sometime later by the sound of the doors slamming open.
I sat up, clutching Cas to my chest immediately as I saw Edward standing between the doors, looking unamused.
"Remove the charms, little Fae." He tensely says.
I turned my head to look out the window to notice it was well past noon, and he never searched for me until this moment. Annoyance flared inside me as I stared back, unimpressed. "You said that my magic cancels yours out. So, how is it that you are unable to move past a simple protective charm when you yourself said that our magic can not affect one another greatly?" I asked, challengingly, smiling at him.
His eyes narrowed, as he lifted his hand, and placed it against the invisible wall that was holding him in place. "Do you wish to continue toying with me while I am in this state, little fae?" He asked me, slowly.
I shrugged, "I have no idea what you're talking about. Honestly, I just wanted to sleep soundly without having to worry about someone trying to enter my chambers while I was unconscious and vulnerable." I stated as Cas moved to nuzzle his nose on my chest.
I sigh and slowly adjust his position in my arms before allowing him to immediately nurse. He suckled greedily once more, despite the fact that I had woken up throughout the night to feed and change him.
"Stop avoiding the subject, Isabella. You know very well that this is not Fae magic, but a stronger type of enchantment." He finally says.
I keep my eyes on Cas, smiling down at his sleepy face, "No, I can assure you that I haven't an idea of what you mean. This is Fae magic, Ancient Fae Magic, but all the same." I point out.
Truth be told, this type of magic was, indeed, ancient, but the enchantment? Well, that was a combination of Witch Magic and Fae. As I stated before a cousin taught me how to combine the magic of those alike for defensive and offensive protection. If Father found out he'd skin me alive. Using that type of magic was forbidden, not that a lot of people knew how to use it.
He let out a long, slow breath, mumbling under his breath, as his green eyes began to flash in between that mesmerizing blue and that emerald green that's had me captivated since that first day in the garden.
"What is this really about, Isabella?" He finally asks, calmly.
I hold back a scathing look before swallowing thickly, "You've been lying to me, about a lot of things." I state.
He sighs, before shaking his head, "Wah- Who- Explain yourself, please." He finally says.
I stare back, "Explain myself? Sort of like you did to me? About the entire betrothal thing? Like you did about making a youngling? Like that?" I retorted.
"I couldn't explain to you how a youngling is made, that could have gotten us both executed. As it is, I don't think we're in the clear just yet. Only a bonded, fully mated couple can do that." He informs me.
I hummed, as I realized that Cas had fallen asleep while feeding. "Did you know that we were destined to be mated?" I finally asked, quietly, as I rubbed my thumb over the length of Cas's cheek, wiping away any excess milk present there, before looking up to meet his eyes.
He shook his head immediately, "Maybe not at first, but after-" He trailed off.
"After what?" I demanded as repositions Cas in my arms and gently patted his back.
"After our magic collided. After your hand touched my chest." He says.
I sigh, "If you had simply explained to me these laws, and- and-" I trailed off.
"And what, little fae? You would have prevented this?" He retorted, heatedly.
I rolled my eyes at him, "No, I would have been more careful. Do you not see I have only caused all of us to be in peril? If- If I had only just chosen a-" I began to see before a growl resounded from his chest.
"If you had chosen another man as your betrothed, I would have started a war. What happened was going to happen either way." He states, tightly.
I shake my head, "Of course, how could I forget that my father all but sold me? Just so you know, I rejected all of their proposals because none of them felt right. No one bothered to show up with anything of interest. Yet all expected me to dote, and fall at their feet." I say with an eye roll, but catch the jealous gleam in his eyes as I speak, "Well, one did catch my interest… You know… Sir Dimitrios, of Aeccenara… he was the only one who even bothered to introduce himself to me. As did Benjamin of… hm. I believe he was from this realm. Sent in your representation." I add, amused, as I hear Cas burp loudly.
The green and blue in his eyes combined, as his shoulders tensed, "I can assure you that you do not want to keep toying with me at this moment. I am far too exhausted to be arguing with you and far too impatient to be standing here like an utter moron." He says, annoyed.
I shrug, nonchalantly "Right, toying. It's toying when I do it, but when you do it's… alright? Well, Edward, you are the one who said our magic cancels each other out. So, it is up to you to undo this charm." I replied, calmly as Cas began to snore lightly on my neck.
'Sweet boy.' I thought while I hummed a tune to make sure Cas was fully asleep as I looked up to meet Edward's gaze.
He stared back at me, unimpressed, the green and blue combining into a darker shade as he did. "I am going to-" He begins, but I stare back, lifting my hand towards him and reinforcing the wall, narrowing my eyes at his challenge, a small smile on my face.
"Very, well, little fae. I did want to keep this cordial but I can see now that you are not going to listen to anything else I may say." He states before rolling his head on his shoulders as if to relieve the tension I could see in his body.
Without so much as a twist of his fingers, the wall cracked and fell away with a loud snap, causing me to flinch.
"I said I would never hurt you. What is it going to take for you to believe me, Isabella? Because so far I have done nothing but show you that I am being loyal to you, and now it just feels like you're finding reasons to not trust me" He says, slowly as he steps through the doors.
He flicks his wrist in the air causing the doors to slam closed, and the lock clicks again. The charm going back up with a purple hue to it as it did.
I squirm in place on the bed as he slowly makes his way towards the bed.
"Give me our son." He quietly says, without hesitation.
I blink, holding him to my chest protectively. "Wah- What? Why? Where are you going to take him?" I asked, fearing the worst for a second.
He tilts his head to the corner of the room, where a small bassinet sits by the hearth that I just noticed. "I am just going to lay him in the bassinet. We need to speak, and having you hold our son is distracting me." He tells me gently.
I sigh before slowly lowering my arms, kissing Cas's cheek before offering him to Edward. He hesitates for a second, slowly sliding his hand under mine, and pulls him immediately to his chest.
I watch him as we make our way over to the bassinet, slowly leaning down and laying Cas down gingerly.
It takes a minute for him to move, but when he does he turns to me.
His eyes are now a mix of blue and green, leaving me breathless. "I am not going to yell at you. I am trying extremely hard to not to get angry at you, but you are making things extremely difficult for me at the moment." He finally says.
I blink, "Who am I- Who am I talking to right now?" I asked, anxiously.
He smirks, "Both of us. Kal seems to think this is amusing, so he's here to watch." He replies. His voice, a mix deeper, and huskier than usual, causing me to squirm again, as my skin erupts in goosebumps.
"Oh. Oh-kay. Will you still be angry if I apologize?" I ask, timidly, feeling embarrassed at how my body is reacting from being under his scrutiny.
He nods, " Yes, I will, for two reasons, but you can still apologize if that makes you feel better." He concedes.
I roll my eyes at him, and sigh, shaking my head a little, "Fine. I apologize for running away from you and embarrassing you in front of my parents and your father… and touching you." I say, giving him a look.
He lifts his hand and wags two fingers back and forth in my direction. "Come here, little fae." He whispers, in a commanding tone.
I raise a brow at him but slowly crawl across the bed toward him without thinking twice about it.
He immediately lifts his fingers, gripping my chin, and forces me to look up at his towering form. "You seem to be under the impression that I am going to continue allowing you to act this way in public." He whispers as his eyes look at my lips.
"I know the proper etiquette to use while out in public," I snapped, trying to break free from his grip only for him to tighten it slightly,
"Listen to me, little fae, because I am in no mood to hear that sharp tongue of yours." He warns. "Now, are you going to act right, or do I need to show you what happens when you misbehave?" He asks, with a gleam in his eyes. They were almost back to the normal emerald, jade green.
The jerk was enjoying this situation, a bit too much.
I lean back, glaring up at him defiantly, yet feeling my body flush as I stare at him, "I am not some uneducated peasant that knows nothing of the rules of our worlds." I say in a heated tone.
He smirks, as he leans back, and crosses his broad arms over his chest, "You could have fooled me." He replies in the same tone.
I move to stand only for him to stop me with a shake of his head, "No." He says.
I frowned and opted to lean back instead as I looked back up, wondering what he wanted.
"If you get off the bed, I can't look you in the eye." He clarifies.
His comment caused me to glare harder at him, and clench my hands in hopes of not doing anything stupid, but I could feel the magic slowly beginning to course through my veins.
His eyes darkened further, gaining a golden ring in the middle as I stared back in disbelief. "I can fucking smell you from here, stop whatever you are doing before you cause us to do something stupid." He gruffly speaks.
I give him an innocent smile, as I remain in the same position, "I have no idea of what you are talking about, dragon." I replied, before stiffening as I saw his eyes darken to the color of a bloodstone.
The sight causes me to gasp as he leans forward, and pushes me onto the large bed.
"You wished to talk. That is what you told my father earlier before you would agree to this engagement. Now, might I suggest you stop acting so infantile and start saying what you wish to say?" He suggests.
I blinked, scrambling to process what he said.
"Not going to answer? But you were so vocal earlier? What's happened? Did the anger you felt fizzle out? Cat got your tongue?" He asked, sarcastically.
I narrowed my eyes as I stared up at him. "Quit patronizing me." I snapped at him.
He smirks. The sight being something. To behold. It's neither cold nor friendly. He's amused at my anger.
As I register this, I feel a wave of heat hit me, and his hands wrap around my wrists immediately, as his torso folds, hovering over me.
"I don't see why you are the one that's angry. You're the one who's been taunting me. Evading me since our son was born, no, correction since I sent the concordance to your father…I've grown tired of the situation.. so, what's it going to be, little fae?" He tells me, as he hovers barely an inch above me.
I took this time to calm myself before I stared back at him, locking my emotions away as I did. "I didn't know about the concordance," I state tightly. "Had I known, I probably wouldn't have run. I'm not daft enough to think that Elysianth would survive a war against Vespera. And you should mind the tone you are using right now." I add as I stare back, straining to get a grip on myself.
"Woah. Why did your eye color change? What's wrong?" He asked me, hesitantly.
I stared up at him. "You're not the only one with extraordinary gifts, Edward. I simply chose not to use them… but you're pushing it." I replied, as I pulled out of his hold and pushed him away.
His amused expression changed from amusement to interest.
I immediately hop off the bed, feeling the magic flow without allowing it to do so.
I could feel my hair flowing, despite the fact that there was no air in the room.
His eyes narrowed as he stared me down, "Our son is in the room, little fae. You don't want to injure him." He calmly tells me.
I gave him an amused smile. "My aim isn't as faulty as it seems. Playing naive is one thing, and being naive is an entirely different thing." I say, giving him a dry smile.
He narrows his eyes on me, "Is that so?" He asks as he waves his hand, causing a shield to cover the entire right side of the room. "Go on. Take your shot, little fae." He tells me, challengingly.
I glare at him, as I move to put more distance between us, "You do not want to do this, dragon." I reply in a calm tone.
He smirks, "What you think I am not capable of protecting my son, and myself?" He retorts.
I take a deep breath but lose my grip as I see the glint in his eyes.
Edward's POV:
I watched hypnotized as her eyes turned from the pretty blue that they usually were, to a blue as dark as sapphire, almost a violet tinge to them. It was almost like me when I allowed Kaldrak to take over me.
Her eyes shifted, hair flowing like in the wind, despite the fact that the air in this room was still.
I watched in fascination as she spoke, her voice growing sultry, yet sweet.
"Draco, qui ignem spirat, venite ad me." She spoke. (Dragon, that breathes fire, come to me.)
I frowned for a second before blinking as the hypnotic feeling suddenly overpowered my senses.
'Our mate is a siren.' Kal tells me.
I frowned, 'Does that mean we're related?' I think back, confused as my limbs begin to move as if of their own accord.
'No, she reminds me of someone else. The witch, and the man from Haeseamar…Murough. The ones who died while trying to help in our war between warlock and us.' He states.
I frown, 'He was ancient magic. One of the last few remaining royals of Ocecia… Are you sure?' I asked him.
He hummed in response, as I stood before my little fae.
"What now, little fae?" I asked, carefully.
She blinked, the dark blue disappearing as her eyes went back to the pretty blue almost gray that resembles the seafoam, holding her head as she stood in front of me. "What happened?" She asked me, confused.
I frowned, "You called me to you." I replied, concerned as she moved unsteadily back.
"I-I did?" She asked, dazed.
I nodded, "Yes." I answered, barely above a whisper.
She let out a steady breath as Kal hummed again, a rumble forming in my chest, as her eyes darkened.
'What the hell are you doing?' I gasp, in disbelief.
'Calling my mate… that look you see there? That is for both of us. I don't know about you, but I am not about to wait one moment longer to feel those lips.' He informs me before he pushes to the front of my mind, yet allows me to remain there as she suddenly reaches up and pulls my head to her height.
Before I can say anything, she presses her lips to mine, causing both Kal and I to groan in unison.
