Not even two weeks later, and something new happened. The man who'd been head boy during her third year at Hogwarts, William Weasley, had transferred to the British Gringotts division, having been working in Egypt for Gringotts for several years before then. She politely shook hands with him and exchanged introductions, but her mind was swirling with thoughts: she had had minimal contact with the Weasley family in general, because there had been no Weasleys in their year group and they were all Gryffindors - with the only exception being Percy Weasley who'd been a prefect during her last two years - but her parents and their 'friends' had often called them the biggest blood-traitor family. Odds were at least some of them - for they were wizarding Britain's biggest family - were in touch with Dumbledore, and wasn't it a funny coincidence that William Weasley should start to work back in England so soon after the Dark Lord's return? She didn't fail to notice Weasley's face tightening slightly at the mention of her surname and decided she'd have to prove she was better than her relatives. Oh, and an afterthought had occurred to her: Harry Potter's best friend was a Weasley, and Percy Weasley had told her that that boy was his younger brother, and so William was Potter's best friend's brother, making the odds greater than ever that William Weasley was in touch with Dumbledore.
Getting a private conversation with William Weasley proved difficult over coming weeks, as he was quite clearly enamoured by another new employee and former Triwizard champion - Fleur Delacour (now why had she happened to choose a desk job at Gringotts' British division of all places?) - and Audrey's surname certainly didn't help, but she managed to corner him one Thursday at lunch time in August. "Weasley, we need to talk, in private - it's about your report." Not without a hint of suspicion, Weasley nodded, and they sat down in a private room. Audrey raised a bubble of silence around them, because better safe than sorry, and now Weasley looked openly suspicious. "The Dark Lord is back," was what Audrey said, cursing herself for her lack of subtlety, but despite her slip, she was sure William Weasley was no sympathiser, so she was safe. Whatever Weasley had expected, it hadn't been this. "What, how", Weasley began but Audrey cut him off, "because my father is one of his death eaters." Stunned silence. Finally, "why are you telling me this? Is this a threat?" Only natural for him to assume so, Audrey supposed. Her voice softened, "while I understand you would assume that, no this is not a threat. Hear me out. Despite coming from a family involved with him, my best friend is a half-blood, and so I don't agree with their views. And I know you don't either. And from everything I know about your family, and how one of your brothers is best friends with Harry Potter, I think it's likely you might be in touch with Dumbledore, or at your parents might be. And I want to do the right thing - giving what I hear from my father to you so Dumbledore can know about it. I have some valuable information about my father's involvement and his associates, and I could probably get more. So what do you think, William?" She finished, somehow knowing the use of his first name would help alleviate his suspicions. After a long moment, William said, "Why aren't you going straight to Dumbledore with this?" This confirmed to Audrey that William Weasley was a Gryffindor to the core however intelligent he might be. "Because Dumbledore's being heavily watched at the moment because he's so unpopular with the ministry for telling them an inconvenient truth, and so if I contact him directly, I'm too likely to be discovered. I may want to do the right thing, but I don't have a death wish, which is what will surely happen to me if my father or his associates find out I've given away information. Please tell a relative who is in touch with Dumbledore, or Dumbledore himself, that I want as few people as possible knowing about this." William's face brightened, and Audrey thought the man looked incredibly attractive. Shame he was already seeing Delacour..."Certainly, Audrey, you've convinced me, and please, call me Bill." Audrey grinned, "well Bill it is then."
Excitement coursed through Audrey as she lay in bed that night, her toes positively curling with it. She was sure by now Dumbledore would already be aware of what she had told Bill, and so she, Audrey Yaxley, from a family full of death eaters and blood purists, would be helping save the lives of people like Martha's parents. Already her mind was whirling with possibilities about how to fish for more information to pass on, and she felt happier than she ever before remembered feeling. And it was with that happiness that she was plunged into the blessed abyss of sleep.
