Juska clans were tribes of vermin that lived near the western shores of Mossflower Woods. They were nomadic and fierce warriors, and often at war with each other. Like many vermin, the Juska tribes were highly superstitious. Each had a fox seer whose role was to predict the future, as well as a symbol, in the form of a facial tattoo, to denote its members. When one clan was absorbed into another, following war or conquest, the new members sported the colors of both clans on their faces.
Juska tribe names were formed from the root "Juska-" and a suffix derived from the chieftain's surname. For example, the Juska tribe led by the ferret Sawney Rath took the name Juskarath. Sawney was a ruthless, cunning, and skilled killer, especially with his knives.
One morning, he looked around at his camp. He saw creatures slowly wake up and get their fires blazing again. "Where is dat blasted vixen?" Sawney thought to himself. His fur was darker than a moonless night, which matched his dark heart perfectly. His eyes had no luster, but it was said that his eyes would twinkle in the heat of battle. He wore the simplest of clothes, which was a black leather jacket, blue jeans, and tennis shoes.
Just moments after he was wondering where she was, Grissoul the vixen seer walked into the camp. She wore a simple forest green tunic and around her waist she wore a simple belt, which held all of her stuff so she could see the future. "Finally, yew show yer flea-bitten hide," Sawney said.
"Milord, I have great news," Grissoul said.
"Well, get on wid it, Grissoul."
Grissoul walked over to one of the campfires that was blazing nearby and emptied a bag of stones, shells, and bones into the flames. Instantly they rose higher and turned all sorts of strange colors. "Thou art going to ask me about the Taggerung again, I feel it." The legend of the Taggerung, a vermin warrior who would lead his or her clan to power and glory, was common amongst the Juska.
Sawney took a puff on a cigarette. (He always smoked because he was a rebel.) "Yeah. Have dere been any more signs of da Taggerung?"
"You see, Sawney," said Grissoul, "to see what is in the flames, first you must find yourself first, okay?"
"I HAVE FOUND MYSELF OKAY YOU MEAN OLD VIXEN!" Sawney yelled. But then suddenly he saw a shape forming in the flames. It was a pink unicorn filly with wings. "Who's dat?"
"Her name is Princess Flurry Heart," said Grissoul. "She's an alicorn who lives in the Crystal Empire in Equestria. Her parents are Princess Cadence and Prince Shining Armor."
Sawney winced as his stomach gave a sharp twinge. Stomach pains constantly dogged him. "So, you're sayin' she's gonna be da Taggerung?"
Grissoul nodded sagely. "My omens have all been saying the same thing since the end of the last rain. There are other Juska clans abroad in the land, and any one of these would deem it a great honor to count an alicorn as one of them. An alicorn is a talisman of great power. Nobeast is mightier, none can stand before her."
Sawney was intrigued by Grissoul's words. "If I kidnap da baby alicorn, an' raise her as my own daughter, just imagine dat! I'd have a one beast army. I'd be da terror of da land an' sea! I'll start makin' da journey to dis Crystal Empire today. I wanna get dere as quick as I can, in case other clan seers have had visions."
"Shall I tell the clan to break camp?" Grissoul asked.
Sawney shook his head. "Nah, it'll take too long ta get dere if I bring da whole tribe wit' me. I'll just take you an' Vallug Bowbeast. He's my most trusted assistant." Vallug Bowbeast was another ferret.
"We can't let anypony in Equestria see us steal the baby," Grissoul warned. "The Equestrians are fearsome warriors, with a long hoof for vengeance."
Sawney waved a paw, dismissing the seer. "I'll be careful."
