This was just a fun fic idea I had in my head. Been having fun writing so I decided I would take up another fic. This story will follow Cody, Noah, and Harold in their college lives. They are always such a fun trio to write for, and having other characters mix in over the next few chapters will be really fun to write. This will mostly be Cody centric since he's an easy protagonist to write but I'll definitely be exploring the other characters over time.
If you enjoy this, please check out my other story, Total Drama: The Fifth Generation, which I'm also working on right now.
Cody was ready to pass out. He didn't hate math. In fact he loved it. Probably one of his favorite hobbies. It went into everything. Computers, time, and even candy. The world couldn't function without numbers! Numbers built and maintained trade routes for the entire world, and they tracked damn near everything. But a side effect of loving math so much, was having already extensively researched the content for the entire class, one that was required. Making matters worse though, was how boring the professor's tone was. Like they lacked the ability, or perhaps the energy, to add emotion to their voice. Each of his lectures were as dry as Death Valley. Combined with the bland lecture hall, devoid of color and natural light, these were the classes he wished Noah or Harold was around to talk to him.
Naturally, Cody fell back on a classic past time; gawking at all the pretty women in his class. No shortage of them sat in the massive lecture hall. He changed up his seat each class, giving himself a fresh new view each class. He'd already had his eyes set on Gwen of course. She just hadn't come around yet. But hey, looking was always free. His eyes fell on a cute girl a few rows down from him. She had straight, blonde hair that fell just below her shoulders. Her outfit consisted of a short blue tee that hugged her form, and loose jeans. Her eyes were trained forward on the professor, and her pen never stopped moving as her notebook filled up with equations and rules. She leaned forward for a moment, allowing Cody to catch the bright blue of her eyes.
Dang. She's cute.
Every once and a while Cody would steal a glance, but made sure to peel his eyes away quickly. Keep looking too long and you creeped them out is what he found out back in high school, alongside other things. Cody found about a lot of things back then, and preferred not to think about said things. While he went to grab another glance of the girl, he realized she was no longer looking at her notes, and looking vaguely in his direction. Cody couldn't turn his head back before she shot him a small smile and a half wave. With that, she turned back towards her notes before Cody could return the wave.
After that Cody couldn't remember what happened the rest of the class. He didn't dare turn back her way again in fear of looking weirder. Though the allure of being smiled at her again was tempting. She had a cute smile, though he could say that about everything with her. As much as he tried not do, he did end up stealing another glance or two before class ended. Cody made a point of getting out of the lecture hall before the blonde girl could potentially question him. That never went well. Once he made sure he'd gotten away, Cody pulled out his phone, and shot off a quick text.
Codemeister: U guys done with class?
He grabbed a drink and sat down for a short while, waiting for a response. The sun has just passed its apex. It was about time for lunch, and after such a long class, he could use something to reinvigorate him. A stop by the usual place would definitely do that. A few minutes later his phone buzzed.
MasterOfWickedness: I just finished Japanese History. I've got nothing else till 4.
NoahItAll: I have no classes today. Remember?
Cody grinned and quickly typed out a response.
Codemeister: Thinking we hit the usual place?
The two agreed, and Cody grabbed his stuff before heading out. He threw on his coat as the early fall air bit his skin. It was chilly, but in a nice way. It woke him up after such a boring class. It was a few familiar blocks of walking until Cody reached the meeting spot. He walked in, and got a booth near the window. He scrolled on his phone while he waited, reading the latest in computer tech. His mind wandered, returning to that girl's smile. Normally he didn't think about the pretty girls he noticed in class after the fact. But this one stuck with him.
"Hey." A dry, voice greeted him, sliding into the booth opposite him. He glanced at the menu quickly, before looking back to Cody.
"Oh, you're here Noah." Cody grinned, and looked to the side, where a lanky ginger with a bad shave slid in the booth next to him. Noah and Harold, the two guy's he'd been rooming with since freshman year. They'd met on a school messaging board, and after a debate about the best super hero (with Noah arguing they were all stupid) they group ended up forming a group chat, and eventually agreeing to room together. A year later, they moved into an apartment for their sophomore year rather than stay on campus again.
"Oh man they added a new ramen flavor!" Harold said, pumping his fist in the air. "You guys wanna split some takoyaki?" He asked. Neither of the other two had an objection to the ginger's request. Their food came and went, the college students pausing their conversation until every bowl had been completely emptied.
"So, what's the deal with you and Leshawna these days?" Noah asked, restarting the conversation while he sat back in the booth. They all were relaxing, digesting a rather heavy lunch. Though on a chilly day like this one, a heavy, warm meal was always welcome. "Are you two still not official? It's been like 3 months."
"You wouldn't understand courtsmanship Noah. Gosh!" Harold said defiantly. "Once I've proven myself then I'll side off into the sunset with my goddess!" He declared, his raspy voice undermining his staunch statement.
"First off, I have a girlfriend, so I do in fact understand 'courtsmanship'." He said, using air quotes. "And second, I'll take that as, you made zero progress." Harold didn't answer, opting to look out the window. "And if you suddenly got a you'd be talking about how you have, 'W Rizz'." Noah said to Cody, who smiled nervously.
"I do!" Cody protested, hitting his fist against his chest. "Ow." He flinched after hitting himself harder than he'd intended to. "I absolutely got rizz Noah! Gwen just hasn't realized yet. Plus I heard she recently became single again!" An eager grin appeared on his face.
"Yeah I'm certain asking out Gwen, again, will work out." Noah opened his phone, and started typing something. "Anyways I'm going to go study with Emma. Y'know, my girlfriend." He smirked, pulling out 30 dollars. He handed Cody the money. "This should more then cover my part of the meal. See you guys at home." He waved before walking away, a dumb grin on his face.
Once out of earshot, Harold spoke up. "Man he's such a jerk! GOSH!"
Cody looked down. Noah was… abrasive. But the tech geek couldn't deny his blockhead of a friend wasn't incorrect at the very least. "I mean, we don't have girlfriends. He does." Cody shrugged, pulling out his debit card, and adding it to the check. "It's not like it's personal. You know that."
"It just strings man."
Cody could practically imagine Noah's voice saying because I'm right. All with the most shit eating of grins. "I mean at least you and Leshawna have… whatever it is you two have." The unlikely couple had been flirting to the last few months. Though flirting would be an understatement. They would fool anyone else into thinking they were a couple. "But I'm sure Gwen will come around eventually." He said, more to himself then Harold. It wasn't worth getting mopey and bringing down the mood.
"One day a women will see your mad skills." Harold said in declaration. He placed his hand on Cody's shoulder, and nodded his head confidently. "Onto something else though. Did you see the new episode?" Harold asked excitedly. Cody's eyes lit up.
"Yeah, I can't believe that they died!" He said as they two got up from the table. Cody's face went red, realizing he was perhaps a bit too loud, and cringed. They parted ways as Cody made his way to the library before his next class. Usually, he wasn't a big studier outside of his own hobbies, but the next class was, to put it lightly, kicking his ass. A history class with a young, well meaning, and enthusiastic professor who ended up giving way too much work and material to possibly get through all of it. Finding a quiet part of the library, he spent the next two hours combing through the textbook and completely an open note test. As the clock ticked half past three, he collected his laptop and textbook, and made his way to class. He entered the brisk, colorless lecture hall about ten minutes before four, just beating out the crowd. Cody took a seat towards the back of the hall, but not so far back it would make him seem like a slacker. Taking a moment to relax, he pulled out his phone and opened a game. Other students filtered into the hall, bringing both chatter and warmth to the chilly, sterile room. Cody tapped away at his game when he heard the chair next to him creak as another student adjusted their laptop on the lecture desk. He glanced towards the student, and his mouth went dry.
It was typical to not know everyone in your lecture. There were upwards of two hundred students in each one. Sometimes more if it's a gen ed class. Despite these odds, Cody blinked twice to make sure his eyesight was correct. But the person sitting next to him was certainly no illusion. The cute blonde who caught him staring earlier looked into her bag, and pulled out a notebook. This time, Cody forgot the rule of not letting his eyes linger too long. She turned to him, and smiled.
Her smile was very cute.
Cody returned the grin, albeit with less confidence, and looked back towards his phone. This was an unusual occurrence to say certain. Looking around he could see numerous other free spaces that had no neighboring students. He wondered if she remembered him from the previous class. Only one way to find out.
He took a slow breath, and exhaled through his mouth. He donned his 'signature' grin; a cross between confident and exceedingly fake. He turned back towards the girl. "Hey, I'm Cody." He said with an extended hand, trying to deepen his voice.
"Hm?" The girl turned back towards Cody with the same friendly smile. "Oh, yeah hey! I'm Same-" She paused. "Sammy. I'm Sammy." She said a moment later, shaking his hand. "I saw you today in my trig class, right?" Sammy asked, her eyes drifting up towards the ceiling as she recalled the memory.
"Oh. Yeah. I think I saw you today." Cody lied. He absolutely saw her. Quite a few times. Over like full hour.
"You think?" Sammy giggled. "You definitely looked over at me more then once." She raised her eyebrows and gave him a knowing look, though her playful smile danced on her lips.
Cody froze, but kept grinning. What am I supposed to say? 'Yeah, I spent like an hour looking over at you because you are pretty and I was bored?' He silenced his thoughts. Just put the moves on her. "Well y'know, I can't help but notice pretty girls." He said while leaning over towards Sammy, trying to maintain a deeper cadence to his voice. After all, that's what all the women wanted right?
Sammy pursed her lips to stifle a look. "Really? That's what you're going with?" She let out a another giggle.
Cody laughed unnaturally and looked down towards the podium. "Oh, the professor is about to start." He said conveniently, opening his laptop and hiding his face in it.
"We should probably focus, huh?" Sammy nodded, looking down at her notebook as the professor started speaking over the microphone. The lecture was as energetic and dense as usual, but Cody caught very little of it, though not due to a lack of trying of course. Cody had been called quite a few things in his life, but a bad student was never one of them.
Though this time he didn't necessarily mean to do it, he kept stealing glances at her. The new perspective let Cody absorb more details about Sammy. For one, she was a lot prettier than he initially realized. Occasionally, he noticed she would pause from note taking to push back a rogue lock of hair behind her ear. Other times her spring scented perfume wafted over to him, which completely broke his focus. Cody tried to think of something to say to her, but with how packed the lecture was, he could never quite find a chance to get a word in without breaking her laser focus. After the first hour, the self-proclaimed ladies' man completely gave up on trying to concentrate.
The next hour passed just as slowly as the first, and by the time the professor dismissed the class, Cody was exhausted. Sammy got up first, gently placing her notebook into her knapsack. "See you on Monday Cody," she sent him a smile and a small wave.
"Oh, uh, see you Sammy!" He said as she turned to leave the lecture hall. I need to go home, Cody told himself. Exiting the lecture hall, he immediately zipped up his jacket. It had grown colder since he was last outside, and the sky had been covered by a thick blanket of dark grey clouds. Unsure of whether or not it would rain, Cody made it a point to walk quickly rather then finding out. This also helped keep him warm, the temperatures dropping as the city grew darker by each minute while the sun set behind the clouds.
He made it back to the apartment just before six thirty, and took a moment to bask in the warmth of the building, the room temperature feeling like a sauna against his chilled face. Noah was reading a book on the couch, while Harold was nowhere in sight, likely still walking back from his class.
"Welcome back." Noah said, not looking up from his thick novel.
Cody tossed his back on the counter before pulling off his shoes. "How'd your study date go?" He asked, opening the fridge. He pulled out some two-day old pasta, and pried the lid off the container.
This time Noah looked up. "Good enough. Not much time to talk though, with Emma getting ready to apply to law school soon. She barely had time to say hello before diving into her studies." Cody remembered that Emma was a full two years older than Noah, and three years older than himself. How he managed to rizz up a senior I'll never know, Cody thought as he started warming up the pasta. Noah had always been a weird case. The bookworm constantly made abrasive smartass quips. No one who knew Noah had a neutral opinion on him. People either couldn't stand him, or they got along perfectly with him. Cody obviously fell into the camp of the latter. But the tech geek couldn't help but compare their ways of going about things. Sure, Noah's snark pushed some people away, but it also landed him a girlfriend Cody was too tired to think about it much more. Cody grabbed his dinner from the microwave and sat down on the coach next to Noah.
"Mind if I game a bit?" Cody asked while turning on the TV and picking up a controller.
"Nah go ahead." Noah shrugged. Between the constant yelling Cody and Harold would get up to while discussing their favorite comics and manga, and the general hecticness of college life, the bookworm could practically read anywhere.
Cody booted up the switch, and kicked his legs up onto the coffee table. It'd been a long ass day. While he started playing, Noah looked up from his book. "You sure are more smiley than normal tonight." He said. Cody paused his game and looked over at Noah.
"What do you mean? I smile all the time." Cody didn't even realize he was smiling, but his face definitely felt a bit tired. I guess I was. Huh.
Noah gave him a deadpan look that screamed 'drop the bullshit'. "The only time you ever smile this much is when you talk to Gwen, which usually ends with you not smiling." This made Cody frown, and look down at his controller. "Okay, sorry." He apologized, placing a hand on his friend's shoulder. "But you seriously were smiling like Harold after he saw boobs for the first time."
"I mean who wouldn't be smiling after seeing boobs?" Cody joked, eliciting a snicker from Noah.
"Not the point!" Noah shook his head. "Did something happen during class?" He narrowed his eyes suspiciously at his friend.
So much for trying to change the subject. Cody shook his head. "Nah man, just in a good mood I guess."
Noah decided he was convinced, and returned to his book. "If something happened between you and a girl, you'd be yap yap yapping in my ear." He concluded, snark swimming in his voice. The two boys went back to enjoying their hobbies in silence.
Well, silent until Harold slammed the door open. "BOOYAH!" He yelled, making karate poses. He lifted his leg into a crane pose, before getting promptly hit in the head by Noah's book.
