Guys, some of you might remember my story "Slices of Life," which was posted here for the longest time. I just published it, under the name Laura Moretti, on Amazon and Kindle Unlimited. It's now called "Heartbroken," and the book is out today! ;)

They disagree. Darcy wants Bingley's birthday to be catered. Elizabeth thinks it's too formal.

"The choice of food is never innocent," she says. "It impacts the atmosphere. You don't act the same while eating a canapé than…eating a slice of pizza."

"Bingley is not the slice-of-pizza type," Darcy says.

"Really?"

Bingley is totally the slice-of-pizza type. But Darcy is sick of those new people. Like they know Bingley better. Bingley is Darcy's best friend, Darcy knows him best.

Jane, Elizabeth. Bennets. Invading…territory. Darcy's territory.

"It's not because Bingley is slumming it here that he has to lose all standards," Darcy says, meaning every word of it, wanting to hurt.

The Bennets are born and raised here. Here, in this neighborhood. Here, in this part of town. Elizabeth was born and raised here.

Where Bingley just bought an apartment.

Elizabeth's smile turns to ice. "Indeed." Silence. "Catered it is, then."

There is a universe where they're in love. Where Elizabeth is smiling at him for real. Where they're holding hands.

Darcy glimpses it, a fleeting, bizarre illusion, it hovers around and then it's gone.
