Personal log, stardate 85327.

Things have changed a lot in the last week. The news of our destruction of their planet-killer project had finally reached Klingon High Command. Broqq was right there in front of J'mpok when he first heard the news; I understand the two got into quite an argument. J'mpok was very disappointed, and he ordered the war effort against the Federation redoubled.

However, the protracted stalemate was causing heavy frustration with the war among the Klingon fleet. Everyone was honestly quite sick of the conflict, and just wanted things to stop. His orders were not received very well.

The heads of the Houses that comprised the former Klingon High Council had been planning in the shadows to unseat J'mpok ever since the council was abolished. It was finally time to execute their plan.

Mind you, J'mpok is no dummy. He knew that the High Council would try to strike back after he assassinated all of its members back when he seized power. The new High Council found J'mpok waiting for them with just as many guards. J'mpok gave a speech condemning the coup, but before anyone could attack, something very interesting happened.

News of the confrontation had leaked to the Klingon fleet. Starship after starship began to beam down infantry, all on the High Council's side. J'mpok knew he could never win fighting against such odds. Most Klingon dictators in history put in such a position would fight to the death regardless. But J'mpok was different.

J'mpok knew that his regime was operating on borrowed time. Rather than humiliate his family by fighting a battle he could never win, J'mpok surrendered and offered to parley. Compromises were quickly reached. The High Council would be re-established, with J'mpok as chancellor, and the previous Klingon constitutional order would be restored. However, J'mpok did not want to declare an end to the war under any circumstances, and the talks started to bog down.

One of the High Council members — the youngest, as it turns out — brought up something he learned in history class. Back in the 22nd century, war had broken out between Earth and Qo'noS. However, the first sortie over a seemingly primitive planet called Organia had disastrous results. As any student of history would know, the actually overwhelmingly powerful Organians forced an immediate disarmament of both sides. This did not mean an end to the war, however. Fighting would continue for many years, this time with spies and propaganda rather than soldiers. Peace was not officially declared until after Praxis exploded.

The point he was bringing up was that the war could continue indefinitely officially, but active conflict between the Federation and Klingon fleets would cease, and relations with the Federation would be re-normalized. Seeing no other way he could stay in power, J'mpok grudgingly agreed. The Federation Council was incredibly supportive of all of this.

So now the war is over, de facto, and Starfleet can get back to doing what we truly do best: exploration. All of the individuals who were flushed out of service when the war began were reinstated. They celebrated the laying down of several new starships whose production had to be put on hold. And I, personally, cannot wait for tomorrow.
