High above in the skies of Mobius; Sonic and Sally were riding upon Dulcy the dragon. "I want to say that I really appreciate that you don't hold it against me for being too busy in the Dragon Lands to be more of help with Snively and this Naugus fellow... That you would be willing to hear me out." Dulcy was telling them.
"Don't sweat it Dulcy; we understand that you have your own home to look after and you are still a Freedom Fighters!" Sonic then assured her as Dulcy smiled.
"What Sonic said; plus anything out of the ordinary is worth investigating. From the sound of it; this could be one of the side effects of the Doomsday Project. What allowed Robotnik and and Naugus to apparently look out to other dimensions..." Sally then said.
"I still can't believe that Robotnik came to you wanting to spend what time he has wanting to help out..." Dulcy then said with a look of shock on her face at the notion as Sonic and Sally then sighed at the scenario that they are faced with.
"Well apparently seeing up stuck fighting together in the worlds he had seen changed his perspective... I think it was a competition between having to come to us to join up or be a slave to fate over what would be less damaging to his ego..." Sonic then said as Dulcy then wondered about something.
"If he is right; how many worlds are out there... How many don't have you Sonic and have their own heroes and villains..." Dulcy then asked as they thought about it.
"Would they be able to match my awesomeness?" Sonic asked with a smirk as Sally then rolled her eyes as they then came across what looked like a purple tear in the sky much to the surprise of Sonic and Sally.
"The Dragon Prime Minister had me doing my routine patrol when I saw this popped up... I thought that you might have a better idea on what it could be..." Dulcy then explained as they looked it over but then saw something coming out.
It looked like a warship and then flying out in an erratic fashion was a blue figure and Dulcy then went down to the figure. They looked down and saw that it was an opossum teenager about their age or a little younger in a dark blue knight's armor with a rocket pack, sword and was wearing a dark blue steampunk esque headpiece with goggles.
They went down and the being then took out a sword and then proclaimed "who goes there; are you civilians? Better remove yourselves from an active warzone and get to safety!"
"This guy is gonna be fun; I can tell..." Sonic then snickered as he then went up to the being using his super speed causing him to jump. "I'm Sonic the Hedgehog with my girlfriend Sally along with our friend Dulcy. You might be here from another world. We are the local Freedom Fighters group here on Mobius; to do away with the remainder of the roboticised empire of Robuttnik." Sonic then casually told him as the being then stared.
"A person named after robots and buttocks?" the being asked confused as SOnic snickered while Sally then shook her head with her arms folded.
"Well; I shouldn't be too surprised... Wasn't in an area like this when I was chasing that ship of the dastardly Devontindos Empire! Been at war with the good people of Zebulos for as long as anyone can remember; waged on the world of Elhorn!" the being then said as he then did a salute. "They shall never take the kingdom nor the world for as long as the brave Rocket Knights exist! I am Sparkster and I have recently joined up hoping to make my foster father proud for he leads the Rocket Knights himself!" he then finished as they then stared.
"Well welcome to Mobius then Sparkster; so this... Devontindos Empire... They have the ship you were chasing?" Sally then asked as Sparkster then nodded.
"They mustn't be allowed to run amok in your world! If you are the local force of protectors; then I would be happy to have you by my side..." Sparkster then said as Dulcy then motioned for them to get on her back.
"I could help you track them down faster..." Dulcy then offered as Sonic and Sally then got up and Sparkster then activated his rocket pack.
"Thank you for the offer; but I shall keep up with my rocket..." Sparkster then said flying off along with Dulcy.
Bunnie was out with Tails looking around while Bunnie was practicing punching trees with her armour platings. "A routine patrol Tails... Just have to keep calm and be on the lookout for SWAT Bots." Bunnie then told him.
Tails stopped and pointed to a direction; "What if I see an army of scary looking pig soldiers?" Tails then asked as Bunnie then looked his way wides eyed.
"What on Mobius could give you the idea that we could run into that?" Bunnie asked as they spotted the mean looking pig soldiers in green armor with some piloting walker vehicles. "Well... Hard to believe that ah thought that things would be boring after Robotnik seemed to be gone..." Bunnie muttered as the soldiers took out swords.
"In the name of the glorious Emperor Devligus of Devotindos; we order you to surrender and allow us to annex this land!" commanded one of them as Bunnie and Tails then got into fighting positions.
"Counter offer... You swine surrender with your tails between your legs before we all kick your butts..." Bunnie then said as Tails went into the air and Bunnie charged in to attack. Tails focusing on disarming the soldiers and using their own weapons against them.
"This Robotnik scoundrel spent a decade not only enslaving your people but turning them into robot slaves? That's evil beyond anything on my world!" Sparkster then said wide eyed as Sonic and Sally up in the air was telling him about what was going on here.
"Yes but we have a chance to turn them all back... Except for some... My father and Sonic's uncle... They got lost recently and can't be turned back..." Sally then sadly said as she and Sonic then had their heads down. Sparkster looked down sadly at this.
"It hurts... I remember losing my birth parents early in my life during the War... I was saved by the leader of the Rocket Knights and then taken in; trained to one day join their ranks so that I could get justice in the name of my birth parents! I hope to make them and my foster father proud!" Sparkster then said and looked determined and this caused Sonic and Sally to smile at him.
"He has the right idea to go about it; honour who we have lost..." Sally then told Sonic who then nodded. Dulcy then noticed something down in the forest and swooped down with Sparkster following.
They saw Bunnie and Tails engaging the Devotindos Empire soldiers and then joined in the fight themselves with Sonic using his speed and Sally summoning her blades. Sparkster using his sword to burst out flames of fire at them. "So I am guessing that these fellows came here with your new friend, huh? I think that ah like a guy in a suit of armor." Bunnie then asked and then shot Sparkster a smirk which had him bashful.
"Thank you for the compliment fair maiden but we should focus on these fiends..." Sparkster then said as they came across a tree sized giant robot with ball of chains for hands. "A standard mech of the Devotindos Empire." Sparkster then explained as he then launched himself at the robot using his sword and Bunnie then went to pucn hte leg and Sally then leaped into the tree to jump and attack the head of the robot.
Sonic then was lifted up in the air by Tails by lifting his shoulders; allowing Sonic then be launched into ball form at the remaining Devotindos soldiers and then helped take down the mech robot. It then fell out and the captain pilot grumbled as he then got out.
The Devitindos soldiers were tied up and put into the warship as Sparkster and the Freedom Fighters watched; "Dulcy should be able to help pick up the ship and put it through the tear to send you back home with your prisoners. Good luck keeping your world safe." Sally then told Sparkster who then nodded.
"Glad to meet such heroes as you; Mobius is safe with you here to fix things. I should have an excellent story to bring home. Princess Sherry should be interested to hear about this and perhaps we shall meet again in due time. I know she would be interested to meet you all and same for my foster father." Sparkster then said.
"I would be interested in the same and maybe Sally can talk to Sherry as princess to princess." Sonic then said as Sparkster's eyes widened.
He then got on a knee and took Sally's hand to kiss; "Forgive me as I was not aware that I was in the process of royalty..." Sparkster then said as Sally's eyes then widened and then glared at Sonic; blaming her boyfriend for this as he then grinned.
"Sparkster reminds me of Antoine if he was actually brave and gentleman like." Bunnie then remarked.
"Not to mention useful." Sonic then said as he then gave a fist bump motion to Sparkster who nervously returned it. They then waved to him as he then set off in the sky with Dulcy picking up the warship to send through the tear in the sky along with Sparkster.
"So; we met one other hero outside of the worlds... Not as cool as me but I think his world is lucky to have him..." Sonic then said as Sally then took his arm.
"Just like we are lucky to have you." Sally then told him as they then smiled at eachother.
Sparkster was the main character of Rocket Knight Adventures; a small game series in the days of the Sega Genesis and the SNES though his games were spread amongst them. He would resurface for Rocket Knight for the Xbox Live Arcade for the 360 (which I played and liked) and his first 3 games are having their own upcoming collection release. Basically he was Konami's attempt at having their own Sonic the Hedgehog type mascot character in the time where many game companies tried to emulate Sonic's character. Sparkster actually was one of those game characters that had a short back up comic in Fleetway's Sonic comic (which is being released as a free minicomic in the soon to be cut off date physical edition of the collection game by Limited Run Games). Longest running of those back up comics was the one based on Decap Attack (as someone who always had fun playing that game in the Sega Genesis compilation games that I have played, it's a shame that it never got any sequels). For this characterisation; I decided to go with a parody of heroic knight characters.
For why I am having this fun divergence chapter; I want to make this like one of those cartoon episodes which is basically a backdoor pilot for a spinoff show. No saying that Sparkster is getting his own story from me but just for fun I went this route with this chapter. The Skylanders Netflix show in Crash Bandicoot's guest star episode in the first episode even had a joke about these sort of episodes being made to launch spinoffs. I also remember the episode of Hong Kong Phooey which was basically a backdoor pilot for a whole bunch of potential shows; the same bad guy getting into the crossfires of many scenarios with the role of protagonist being passed around.
Just for an idea; please tell me what you think of the idea of me doing a chapter that is basically just an episode of Sparkster's own show.
