One last sleep before the end

Warning: This is my own story loosely based on the events of Baldur's gate that takes place around Act 3 of the game. There will be some spoilers in this fic, so if you haven't finished the game then this is your warning to come back later.

The pairing will be of my Tav which I named Liluth and Karlach, anyway I hope you enjoy.

Liluth, a Half wood elf bard was finding trouble to sleep one night at Wyrm's lookout on the outskirts of Rivington. She had been haunted by the same dream every night since she had chosen to set out on this journey, a dream that was more like a recurring nightmare.

A few stray tears rolled down her cheeks as she shifted restlessly in her bed roll, Isobel, a young human cleric who followed the path of Selūne, the moon goddess. Noticed the restless slumber of her Half elven friend.

"Trouble sleeping?" Isobel asked as she knelt beside Liluth. Liluth slowly sat up in her bed roll and looked at Isobel, the daughter of Kethric Thorn, with her tear streaked face.

"I…I don't wish to trouble you with my burdens. I appreciate you checking in on me though." Liluth replied with a small frown forming on her lips.

Isobel chuckled softly, "I may have taken refuge in your camp for the night, but that's no excuse to keep your guard up. I just want to know what's troubling you." Isobel said as she laid a reassuring hand on Liluth's shoulder.

"I…I really don't know what you expect to hear from me, I'm just a humble bard who's finally returned home after gods knows how long." Liluth replied as she shook her head slightly at Isobel.

"Come now, dear friend. I could sense that you hold deep anguish in the depths of your heart, share your pain with us. Even if only a little." A voice called out from behind the two girls. Dame Aylin, an Aasimar of the moon goddess Selūne approached them, a small smile gracing her lips.

Liluth closed her eyes for a moment as she took a deep breath before opening them again and followed Isobel and Dame Aylin over towards a moss covered log, "It's just that…it's hard. I've suffered so much loss in my life that I'm not even sure where I find the strength to keep going." Liluth said, looking at Isobel and Aylin.

"I…I don't mean to pry, but what happened?" Isobel asked as she gave Liluth's hand a gentle squeeze. Tears formed in Liluth's eyes once more and she took a moment to compose herself before she spoke.

"I was just so young, my mother was teaching me how to play the lute…" Liluth began. Isobel and Dame Aylin nodded their heads as they listened, silently encouraging Liluth to continue. "Then…one day as I was coming back from collecting firewood, I just saw bodies everywhere. I hid inside a log and I was scared out of my mind as I watched a man in plate armour slaughter my parents and my entire camp without mercy…" Liluth said as a small sob escaped from her lips.

Aylin's grip on Liluth's hand tightened slightly as she looked into Liluth's eyes, "You have suffered unimaginable pain, friend. But yet, here you still stand. Your words, your music, they inspire the very people around you. You need not carry your burdens alone, lean the strength of those who fight by your side." Aylin said, her voice was filled with empathy.

"She's right you know, Soldier." Karlach said with large grin as she sat down beside Liluth. Liluth looked at her Tiefling girlfriend before looking back at Isobel and Dame Aylin, she could feel the warmth and support of her companions that surrounded her.

"Thank you, all of you. I'm not sure what I would do without your support. It means more than you know." Liluth said with a small smile on her lips, her eyes filled with gratitude towards her friends.

"Of course you do, you're going to pick yourself up and keep moving forward. Making your parents proud of the woman you've turned out to be, wherever they may be resting." Karlach replied smiling as she pulled Liluth close to her for a hug.

Isobel smiled at Liluth and her girlfriend Karlach and took a deep breath, "You know, I was wondering. How did you and Karlach meet?" Isobel asked. Liluth smiled as she looked back at Isobel,

"It's not exactly your typical love story, I met with some Templars claiming to be Templars of Bahamut just north east of the Druid Grove and they offered to pay me a healthy sum for taking out a demon…" Liluth said as she recalled how she met her girlfriend Karlach. Isobel and Aylin sat silently as they listened.

"It was there when I saw her standing across the river not too far from where the Templars were held up, she warned me that the Templars who sent me to kill her weren't who they said they were and I sheathed my weapon before I made a terrible mistake." Liluth continued. Karlach smiled and nodded,

"That's right, those Templar imposter pricks were sent by Zariel to try and take me back. But I…no I mean we, refused to let them." Karlach added as she kissed Liluth softly on her forehead.

"Well, love does indeed have its mysterious ways of connecting two souls together." Aylin said with a smile. Karlach nodded,

"It sure does, she makes me the happiest girl in Faerūn. At least…with the time I have left with her." Karlach said, her smile slowly fading into a frown. "I…can feel my engine getting hotter, it's going to blow. Soon. So I'm going to cherish however long I have left with her." She added.

"I see, it is the cruelest of fates. No doubt one that will leave one of you with immeasurable pain." Aylin said, her voice full of raw emotion.

Liluth smiled as laid her lute across her lap, "Let's not end this night on such a downer. Not when we're so close to the city." Liluth said as she began to slowly pluck a few strings on her lute, creating a gentle melody. Filling the night air with song.
