"How was that?" I asked Rath and he sighed, raising his leg before he repeated the kick I'd seen him do a few times. "Okay, so I need to lift my leg higher?" I added, copying him as he straightened but when I tried it I overbalanced. Quick as a flash Rath stood behind me, grasping both of my shoulders before he steadied me.
"You shouldn't overexert yourself, Jade," Rath told me once I had both feet on the floor again and I snorted at him which caused the mummy to raise an eyebrow at me. "You should be getting angry at Scarab."
"I know that Rath and I'm sorry. Guess I'm a little on edge right now." I replied once he draped an arm around my shoulders.
"On the edge of what, Jade? We are standing on the floor of the sphinx." Rath pointed out and I managed a weak grin, patting Rath's hand before I stepped back stretching my legs. "Oh, you meant something else." He finally answered and I nodded at him, trying again to get the high kick he'd been teaching me since this morning right. Even though my next attempt was just as successful I managed not to lose my balance and Rath smiled at me, lightly patting my back.
"But I still can't seem to do it." I told him, both eyebrows raised and Rath just shrugged leading me back towards the table and bench we used whenever we had breakfast. Once I sat Rath took a seat beside me, a faint smile on his lips.
"But you didn't fall over this time so that is a definite improvement, Jade," Rath explained and I just shrugged. "Besides you might not get it this time but when it counts I know you will."
"I just want to impress you," I replied, realizing how corny that sounded when Rath grinned at me. "I mean I want to be a guardian so I need to practice." I quickly added, grateful I couldn't blush as Rath tilted his head to one side with a raised eyebrow.
"Yes, I understand that, Jade but you mustn't rush your training. Besides you already have proven yourself to me." Rath answered and I grinned at him, leaning in the instant he did. The kiss left me grinning like a fool a fact not lost on Rath who fixed me with a raised eyebrow. "Jade, are you listening to me?" He asked and I blinked, shaking my head slowly as I tried to figure out what I'd just missed.
"Sorry, I was somewhere else. Can you repeat yourself, Rath?" I asked him and he sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose before he reached over and I managed a weak smile when he clutched my hands.
"I was wondering if you would like to go on another date with me?" Rath suggested and I nodded so fast he blinked at me before he let out a chuckle. "I thought you might."
"Of course I would, Rath. Let's just hope we can have a few minutes alone without any…." I trailed off when my friends walked into the room and I rolled my eyes towards the ceiling. "Interruptions. Just not my week." I muttered and Rath chuckled softly, lightly patting my hands before he rose from the stone seat as I crossed my arms.
"Did we interrupt something, Rath?" Presley asked with a grin aimed at me and I snorted, climbing to my feet before I followed Rath who walked toward his sarcophagus. When I gave Presley a raised eyebrow he laughed at me which I ignored instead of following my boyfriend as he grabbed his outfit from inside his own sarcophagus.
Following his lead I headed over to my own sarcophagus, picking up my outfit. As I quickly dressed, hiding my bandages I didn't see Rath, already dressed giving me a tiny smile.
"I promised that I would take Jade on a date and I intend to keep my promise," Rath explained to his friends and fellow guardians as he reached my side. Linking arms with me he gave me a smile as we walked through the archway that would take us to the garage.
Reaching the garage Rath helped me onto the Jet-cycle, unable to hide a smile when I wrapped my arms around his waist. "You don't need to tell me to hold on tight," I told him and he chuckled, revving the engine before we shot toward the ramp. As we headed into the city Rath smiled to himself once I leaned in, resting my head on his back.
"We are here," Rath said and I blinked, raising my head once I noticed that the Jetcycle had come to a complete stop. Seeing me staring at him blankly Rath's lips curled into a smile. "Since you seemed to be more focused on me than anything else I wanted to tell you that we have arrived at our destination."
Once Rath climbed from the Jetcycle he offered his hand, helping me off the vehicle, and as I stared around us he chuckled softly at me. "Yes, it's the same park where we had another date."
"Right until certain people interrupted us. Maybe this time they'll get the message and leave us be." I replied and Rath smiled at me, keeping pace with me as I headed for a grove of trees in the distance. A few minutes later I sat beside Rath, brushing the grass beneath our feet with my fingertips.
"Now this is perfect." I sighed and Rath grinned at me, one arm draped around my shoulders when he started to trace slow circles over my covered chest. Noting my lack of a reaction Rath's fingers moved further down and I whined softly, feeling his fingers brush my exposed belly button. This time I let out a slow breath, turning my head to find Rath's eyes on mine, and after a lengthy pause, he reached up cupping the back of my head before he drew me into a kiss that left me speechless.
Once Rath pulled back slightly he smiled, enjoying for a moment the blank stare I gave him before he pulled me close. "Better than perfect." I finally admitted, draping an arm around his neck silently afraid that someone would ruin this moment for us. With my head resting on his chest Rath tilted his head enough to see my shoulders trembling and as he fixed his attention on them he caught me lifting one hand trying very discreetly to rub my other arm.
"Jade, are you cold?" Rath asked and I immediately froze, shifting my head enough to find him staring at me with two slightly wide green eyes. Once I pulled my hand away from my arm he gave me a slow smile keeping eye contact with me until I finally sighed, lifting my head before I nodded at him. "You should have told me that sooner. We can always return to the Sphinx." He offered seeing me chewing on ly lower lip before I pushed myself. As I wrapped my arms around my chest he sighed, sitting before I felt a hand brush my hair.
"Sorry, I ruined the date, Rath," I mumbled and Rath shook his head, holding me when I sniffed. "I just wanted to spend as much time alone with you as I could."
"It's okay, Jade. I didn't want to say it first but I am cold too." Rath admitted and I blinked at him, finally noticing that Rath was shivering and I managed a weak smile. "Yes let's return." He added, climbing to his feet before he offered me his hand. Until Rath finished parking the Jet-cycle in the sphinx neither of us said a word though once I climbed from the vehicle I felt Rath's arms wrap around my waist and I blinked, a little curious as he held me against his chest.
"Maybe the date's not as ruined as I thought," I muttered and Rath chuckled softly, content when I rested my head under his chin.
