"Well? What is going on here?" Snape questioned once more.
"H-h-how?" Hermione stuttered, not believing her eyes.
During the Battle of Hogwarts everyone had thought that Snape died at the hands of Voldemort's pet, Nagini. However, here he was, standing right in front of them and looking alive.
"How am I alive?" Snape repeated, his eyes shining with amusement. "I would have thought that was fairly obvious, by breathing."
Draco rolled his eyes at his godfather, although he wasn't surprised by his godfather's sarcastic reply. if anything, he would've been more surprised if Snape wasn't sarcastic.
"And I thought it was fairly obvious that she wanted a real answer" Draco's reply was met with a glare from Snape, as it ruined his fun.
"Lucius saved me" he replied shortly.
"My father?" Draco questioned. How come his father never told him that his godfather was still alive?
"No, the other Death Eater called Lucius saved me" Snape answered in his usual manner.
"A simple yes would have sufficed" Draco grumbled. Everyone in the room collectively rolled their eyes at him.
"Of all the people in the school, I had to become friends with the most dramatic group" Hermione groaned.
"Dramatic? Us? How could you?" Blaise replied, seemingly offended.
"You know, you're only proving my point" Hermione pointed out.
Blaise narrowed his eyes at her. Then he decided that it wasn't worth the trouble going against her and turned to Snape.
"Are you going to teach potions again?" he questioned. At Snape's curt nod he clapped his hands together. "Excellent! now we won't have to deal with that old kook, Slughorn!"
Pansy, Astoria and Hermione exchanged disbelieving looks at how gleeful Blaise looked. Obviously, he had other motives to be this happy, seeing as he hated classes. All they had to do is figure out what they were.
"Wait, wait, wait. If you're not teaching defense against the dark arts, then who is?" Hermione asked.
It seemed almost comical the way Snape's face lit up with amusement.
"You'll see. although I doubt Draco is going to be happy about it" Snape smirked.
"And why is that?" Draco demanded.
"You'll see." came the reply.
"Now to the matter at hand. Can someone please explain why Draco, Blaise, Theo and Ms Granger have different colored hair?" Snape asked.
"The boys said we weak girls couldn't possibly do anything to them..." Pansy started.
"... So you took matters into your own hands." Snape finished, turning to the boys. "How many times have i told you not to get on Pansy's or Astoria's bad side? You idiots wouldn't last a day"
"It wasn't our fault"
"They're evil!"
"They need to be chained up"
Hermione rolled her eyes at their weak arguments.
"Anyway, the boys decided to chase us down here. Somehow, Draco cornered Hermione and charmed her hair" Astoria finished.
"Can you please undo the charm?" Hermione asked desperately.
"Certainly" Snape replied, pulling out his wand. He did a quick charm and Hermione's hair was back to normal.
"Me next"
"No me!"
"I should go first"
Hermione, Pansy and Astoria burst out laughing at the scene in front of them. The boys were wrestling each other in order to have their hair back to normal.
"Boys! Boys! Boys!" Snape said, trying to calm them down. "Who said anything about me fixing your hair?" he said with a wry smile.
All three boys froze. Theo dropped Blaise out of the chokehold, making him fall to the ground.
"What do you mean? You will fix our hair won't you? Won't you?" Theo said in a hopeful voice.
"On the contrary, I think you should keep the hair until the charms wears off" with a swish of his robes, Snape turned and entered his classroom, leaving the boys with shocked faces and the girls laughing at them.
10 minutes later Hermione was sitting near a cauldron, preparing her ingredients. Class was yet to start but Hermione wanted to be prepared. She was sharing a table with Malfoy, Pansy with Theo and Blaise with Astoria. Hermione was waiting nervously for her Gryffindor friends to arrive. To be honest, she was scared of how they would react to her sitting with Slytherin, especially Ron. Minutes passed. And then they arrived.
Ginny was first. She immediately walked over.
"Ginny!" Hermione exclaimed. "Did you get back to the common room ok?"
Ginny rolled her eyes, dumping her books on a table next to Hermione.
"You worry too much. I got back just fine." she replied.
Harry walked over and took a seat next to Ginny, placing his books down a bit more gracefully.
Enter Ronald Weasley. at the sight of Hermione sitting with Draco Malfoy, his face turned red. He looked as if he was about to hurl an insult at her, when Professor Snape entered the classroom from his office. Never in her life had she been more relieved to see Severus Snape.
"Settle down, settle down." Snape said with his familiar drawl as he took his seat in the front of the class.
Harry's head snapped up at the sound of professor Snape's voice.
"Professor Snape?! You're alive?!" Harry exclaimed in shock.
"No, actually, i'm dead" Snape deadpanned. "Now if you would all take your seats, I can start the lesson"
All the students who were standing immediately bustled to grab a seat. Silence fell over the room.
"Instructions for the potion are on the board. You will work with the person next to you. This will be your partners for the rest of the year. You may-" Snape was cut off by McGonagall's magnified voice.
"All students report to the great hall, please"
At this, Snape smirked that irritating smirk that said that he knew something they didn't. He pulled open his desk drawer and grabbed something. Hermione gasped. Was that... a muggle camera?
Harry seemingly read her mind, because he piped up "Sir, is that a muggle camera?"
"Yes, it is, Potter." Snape replied shortly
"Why exactly do you have a muggle camera?" Draco asked, confused.
"Well, I want to take a picture of your face when you find out who the defense against the dark arts teacher is." Snape answered. "Now, what are you all still doing here? Get out of my sight"
There was the scraping of chairs as all the students left to go the great hall.
