Chapter 7: Are you Married?
Andy stayed at the Roadhouse for the time. Dean had asked if she would come back on the road with them, but Andy was hesitant. She knew she wanted to be with Dean, but she didn't want to put additional stress on either of the boys thinking that they would need to protect her. Sam had been right. Hunting with Dean was tricky, because he would always put her first over himself. She couldn't have that, so for the moment, she said no. It took a lot of reassurance to convince Dean that they were good. They could be together, if that was what he wanted.
"I'm sorry Andy, I just…I want to know that…that we're ok." Dean stammered. Andy kissed him deeply as an answer.
"We're ok Dean. I promise. You come by when you can. We can keep each other in the loop when we're hunting, and we can go from there. Do you remember what I told you…that first time you called me after…you know?"
"You said you would always come if we said we needed you."
"And I will still hold to that promise Dean. You tell me you need me somewhere I'm there. Even if it's just to say hi, do you understand?" Andy caressed Dean's cheek. He leaned into her and closed his eyes. She loved the way he did that. With every tender touch, he always leaned into it like he was starving for it. She kissed him again and gave him a quick squeeze.
"Now, go do your thing. I'll see you later," she said.
5-6 weeks later
Hey babe

…Wait what?
Never mind.
So, he is your husband.
Yea he is.
She's married? What about…you know… you?
Sammy not now.
But didn't you two…hook up?

What did I just hear? Did You sleep with My WIFE!?
Oh shit
Look buddy I didn't know I…
You SLEPT with MY WIFE!

….
DYSON I KNOW YOU CAN HEAR ME. IF YOU KILL HIM THERE WILL BE DIRE CONCIQUENCES!
…
Fuck!
….
Andy?
Dean!?
I'm fine
Where are you?
Andy
WHERE are You?
Leadville, Colorado
Of course you are. Don't move I'll see you in an hour.
There was a knock at the door. Really more like a bang, or a pound, or a hammer. Then the door fell in with a bang. Andy stood in the doorway. She took one look at Dean who was occupied with staring at the door that had just been kicked off its hinges and bared her teeth. He had a shiner, and ice pack on his left side.
"I'm gonna kill him!" she said as she strode into the room. Dean couldn't say anything for a moment. He was too stunned at seeing a side of Andy he hadn't known even existed.
"Andy, it's ok I'm not really hurt."
"Where is he!"
"Andy calm down you-"
"WHERE IS HE!"
Dean stepped aside and looked towards the bathroom. Andy marched in straight to the bathroom. Without hesitating she kicked that door in as well. Dyson was there standing against one wall. He was as tall as Dean, a bit heavier set and just as broad. His long blonde hair was pulled back in a braid, and his green eyes were wary.
"What the FUCK is wrong with you?!" she yelled.
"I'm jealous we know this," Dyson held up his hands in a placating gesture.
"That does not give you the right to go around trying to KILL my LOVERS!"
"I wasn't trying to kill him…I wanted to, but I wasn't trying."
"So instead, you just beat him to a bloody pulp? He's not like you! He's not as strong!"
"Hey" came Dean's indignant voice.
"Not what you think Dean," said Dyson looking over Andy's head. A fist flew out of nowhere and connected with Dyson's jaw.
"Do not talk over me you ass. What the HELL were you Thinking!?"
"It's not that bad. He'll live…likely."
"I don't give a shit if it's not that bad!" she swung at him again, this time he blocked it by catching her fist. There was fire in her eyes. She brought her knee up towards his nether region which he just managed to block with his own knee. Andy stumbled back a few steps from the force of the impact. She glared at Dyson. "Why do you always do this. Every time I start to settle somewhere you show up and screw with it. Now, after the shit you pulled last time, you think you can waltz into my life here and fuck with my friends?"
"What do you mean likely?" Dean asked loudly.
"Shut up Dean!" Andy shouted.
"Andrea, look you broke the deal, 25 years. I have every right."
"It's been 25 years it's been 60 actually,"
"But you said you've only been here 12."
"Yea… but I haven't seen you for over 60…therefore more than 25."
"But not here…"
"Did I not just say that…"
"Andrea the deal was 25 years in a world…" There was a pause. A long pause.
"You're kidding…"
He was not kidding.
"Dyson how is that fair. I rarely stay in one place for more than 25 years. So, I can go centuries without you...and without anyone else…how does that work out?"
"I went 1000 years thinking you were dead, and I had one relationship,"
"Because you were busy doing other stuff. You said yourself you had no interest in a relationship!"
"It still renders your argument moot."
"What? No, it doesn't! You had no interest. Sometimes I have the same feeling. I have no interest in being with someone. But sometimes after a few decades of being alone...thing start to get boring, and a little companionship is a nice relief."
"Andrea don't you dare talk to me about being alone. I have been alone...I mean Alone for fifty years."
"You know that's not what I mean. I just wanted something, and after 60 years of being without you I thought that would be ok. Especially after I took care of your wife and son for you."
"That wasn't my fault. I got summoned-"
"I don't care. It still happened. You were gone, and I got stuck with your shit."
"Stuck? You loved them."
"That is not the Point!"
"Then what is the Point!"
"You can't control me. You can't just waltz in and manipulate my lives whenever you please!" There were frustrated tears in Andy's eyes. Dyson stood his ground and looked down at her evenly not saying anything. At that Andy stormed out of the motel room while all three boys stared after her. Dyson made an exasperated sound then turned to the wall, climbed out the back window and seemed to disappear. Sam and Dean heard a strange rumbling and scraping sound. Sam went over to the window and looked out. Where there had once been a bit of a green space where a small creek rand behind the motel there was now a hole in the ground. It looked like a tunnel that led down and away into darkness.
The brothers stood in the motel room utterly confused. They looked at each other with wide eyes and slightly open mouths. Dean passed a hand over his face.
"What the hell just happened?" he asked looking from the…tunnel that had just appeared outside the motel window to the two doors that had been pulled off their hinges.
"I have no idea," Sam replied. "Did you know Andy was that strong?"
Dean shook his head.
"Oh, this day just keeps getting weirder and weirder," he said.
"Say that again," Sam agreed. He sighed. "Dean, go after her. I think she may need you right now. I'll deal with…our new friend." He said nodding at the tunnel.
"Are you sure?" Dean asked eyeing the rock walls skeptically. Sam nodded.
"Go Dean," he said waving to the doorway.
Dean found Andy around the back of the motel where there was a small creek running through the property. She had her shoes off and had her feet in the water. She was playing with the creek, making little balls of water float around her head. Dean sat down next to her. She glanced up at him her eyes flashing angry for a moment. She softened quickly once she saw it was him. Dean could see she had been crying. They sat in silence for a moment.
"So, I guess that he is one of the things I didn't know about you?" Dean said. Andy chuckled darkly.
"What was your first clue." She tucked her knees into chest and laid her head down on them. Dean swallowed hard. He could hear the venom in her tone. It kind of scared him. Dean had never seen her this angry before. Even when his dad screwed up and she left.
"So…" he said trying to find the right words to say and not get punched "how long have you known him?" Andy sighed. She wiped her eyes and looked up at the sky. She was quiet. Dean wondered if she was going to say anything. He was about to try another tactic when Andy finally started to speak.
"I've known him since I was three years old." She looked at Dean for the first time. "I mean, actually three years old." Dean looked confused for a second. Then realization dawned. Andy had known this guy for over 800 years. "We got together in high school. When we were 16. Well before all of this shit," she nodded at the balls of water floating around her head. "The first place we got pulled to was one I created. It was a book I was writing. After that we didn't see each other for a few lifetimes. 160 years for me and about 1000 for him. We found each other again in a world full of magic and dragons. We made our agreement there. Or what I thought was our agreement." Andy threw a rock into the stream hard. "We lived there for 50 years together, and we've been bouncing around together and not together ever since." They were quiet again. Andy seemed to have calmed down a bit. Fury wasn't rolling off her in waves anymore. Dean stared straight ahead brooding. There was no way he could compete with a guy who she had been in love with for 8 centuries. No matter how much he loved her, there was just no way. Dean sighed.
"Look Andy, I understand if…" he hesitated. Andy looked at him waiting "if we're done." Andy raised her head. He couldn't read her expression.
"Dean…"
"I get it. I can't compete with him. He's your soul mate, and I understand that I can't really be a part of that. So, no hard feelings." Dean got up and brushed himself off.
"Dean wait," Andy said getting up as well.
"No, Andy, the longer we draw this out the harder it will be."
"Dean will you just stop."
"Goodbye Andy," he turned away from her. But she managed to grab him and pull him around to face her. She stood on tiptoe and kissed him deeply. Dean pulled away.
"What the hell Andy?"
"Dean, shut up." She gripped his arms hard so he couldn't pull away from her "It's true. He is my soul mate, and I love him, and I always will. But the point is I'm really angry with him. I have been with a total of five men and two women. Three of which he has wanted to and tried to kill now." Dean was staring at her wide eyed. "The truth is, right here, right now, I want you. Those other guys I was with. Sure, I cared for them. I gave two of them children. But you," she looked into Dean's eyes intensely. "Dean you are the first person I have fallen in love with since him. There it is Dean. I'm in love with you, and I never thought it would be possible." They stared at each other. Dean searched her face. Trying to see if there was any truth in what she was saying. She gazed back at him steadily. They stayed that way for a long moment.
"You were with two women?" Dean said finally. Andy's mouth dropped open. Dean burst out laughing. Andy could help but chuckle with him.
"Out of that whole speech that is what you take away." She smacked him playfully on the arm. His face sobered slightly. He pulled her into his arms and held her close.
"We'll figure this out Andy. Together. I promise."
"Thanks Dean," Andy said quietly into his chest.
"No worries babe. Should we go back?" Andy sighed.
"I guess. I've cooled down enough, question is: has he?"
Dean grimaced. He was afraid of him a bit. After all the guy had all but knocked him out. But Andy obviously trusted him, so he would go with it. They made their way back into the hotel room. Andy just rolled her eyes.
"Show off," she muttered.
"Yea, I was wondering about that…" Dean said prompting Andy to explain.
"You know how I can manipulate water?" Dean nodded, "Dyson can manipulate earth." She started into the cave. They ran into Sam who was running back up the tunnel. Dean was still thrown off by that. But if this guy was anything like Andy, which he defiantly seemed to be, Dean knew he should try to just roll with it.
"Something's happened!" he said breathlessly.
"What do you mean?" Dean said suspiciously.
"He's not in the cave. I mean, he was there, and I thought he maybe needed some time alone, so I just waited in the tunnel…and now…he's not there." Sam paused to catch his breath. "I have been here this whole time so he couldn't have got past me."
They scoured the cave. Eventually, Andy got frustrated and shifted to her cougar form. She nosed around for a few minutes, then set off in a purposeful direction. She led them to a crack in the wall and shifted back into herself.
"He went through there, but there's something else. Another sent mingled with his," Andy said in a rush.
"What kind of something?" Dean asked.
"I don't know…I feel like I've smelled it before…it's definitely not human."
"So you're saying something took him?" Sam said glancing between Andy and Dean.
"It's got to be something pretty strong and fast to get the drop on Dyson." Andy looked carefully at the crack in the wall. "I think I can…" she turned sideways and wedged herself into the space.
"Andy wait!" Dean called, but he was too slow. Andy twisted and made it through the crack.
"Holy shit," she breathed.
"What? Andy?" Dean asked a little franticly.
"There is a whole ass tunnel system down here," Andy said.
"I'm going to get some tools and open this crack up more," Sam said and jogged back up Dyson's tunnel.
They spent some time opening up the crack so Sam and Dean could fit through. Andy shifted back to her cougar form and started tracking Dyson's sent again while Sam and Dean threw theories around about what could have taken Dyson.
"Wedigo?" Dean offered.
"Too close to civilization, and wrong area," Sam answered.
"Moon cycle's wrong for a werewolf. What about a djinn? Or a ghoul?"
"Djinn are usually a bit higher class than cave haunters. Could be a ghoul. What about a Rugaru?"
"Those are probably our best bets," Dean agreed. They tracked Dyson for another hour or so. Andy was amazed that it had managed to get the drop on Dyson. They found him, unconscious and tied up suspended from a hook embedded in the roof. They tried to wake him up. Finally, Andy planted a kiss on him. Dean's face went stony. Dyson slowly opened his eyes.
"Hey there," she said quietly.
"What happened?"
"You got jumped by something."
"Yea…creepy looking dude. Had really pale waxy skin."
"Rugaru," Dean stated. "We better keep an eye-" Dean was interrupted by a snarl and a dark figure crashing into him. He hit the wall of the tunnel and collapsed in a heap. Andy made quick work of cutting Dyson down before the monster turned its sights on her. She tried to brace herself, but it managed to knock her off her feet. Andy's head hit a rock and knocked her out for a second. When she came to, Dyson was giving the thing a wicked beat down. The boys were about to try and toast it, but Andy stopped them.
"It'll help him. Let him beat it up for a while." A while turned into Dyson beating it up and down the tunnels until they came out at an old quarry. Finally, Dyson had had enough.
"Why won't this thing die." Dyson said punctuating each word with a punch.
"You have to burn it," Andy said. Dyson looked back at her.
"That would have been nice to know." He threw the thing away from him and began to shift. When Andy realized he was going all the way she groaned.
"Boys! Back in the tunnels now!"
"What? Why-"
"NOW!" She got them as far as she could then threw up a water barrier in the tunnel. The heat was intense, but the flames didn't reach them. Steam filled the tunnel.
"What just happened?" Sam asked staring down towards where they had just come.
"Remember when I asked if he had shown you the whole show when he shifted?" Andy asked. "That was the whole show," she said nodding her head toward the tunnel. "Believe it or not… he's a dragon." Sam and Dean said nothing. The three of them made their way back, Andy using what little water was left to cool the stone to walk on. They could see him, sitting on a large lump of melted rock, completely naked. Andy sighed.
"Boys, go back to the motel. We'll meet you there."
"Are you sure?" Dean asked hesitating. Andy nodded.
"I'll talk him down." She put a hand on Dean's arm and squeezed softly. "I'm sorry about this...I know it's confusing and complicated, and probably a little too much to process right now." Dean gave her a derisive chuckle and a look. Andy could only shrug. "You can find your way back?" she asked.
"I marked the way," Sam answered and nodded his head at Dean.
"Ok, safe travels," she said and kissed Dean's cheek.
Andy wandered out to Dyson. He didn't look at her when she got to him. She sat next to him after cooling a spot for herself. They sat quietly for a while.
"Well, that was over kill if I ever saw it," she said.
"Yea, well. I had some rage to work out."
Andy sighed.
"Dyson, this needs to stop. I really care about Dean. I think I may love him actually." Dyson bristled but Andy pressed on. "And I know that's hard for you to hear, but it's true. I will always love you. More than anyone. But here, in this world, he and I have been through a lot together and I'm not going to just let you tear that apart because your jealous." They were quiet again. After a bit Andy tried to break the ice. "So, where were you?"
Dyson swallowed.
"Alone." Andy waited for more.
"Ok…like no people?"
"No life, except plants." Dyson let that statement hang. Andy was having a hard time wrapping her mind around what he had said. "I may have created a sentient race of golems though. Rock, clay, wood…" Andy stared at him.
"Seriously?"
"Yea, I got really lonely after about 10 years. Then it took about 20 to make them. It just sort of…happened."
"How long were you there?"
"50 years."
"You were alone, with nothing but plants… for 50 years?"
Dyson nodded.
"Wow." Andy sat stunned for a moment. Then she stood. "We should get back. The boys will start wondering. I'll go and get you some clothes. You should…wait here." Dyson looked up at her terrified and shook his head.
"Don't leave me alone. Please."
"It'll just be a few minutes." He grabbed her arm and held her tight.
"Please Andrea, don't leave me alone." He was almost in tears. Dyson rarely ever cried. Andy looked at him and gave up.
"Ok, we have a long walk ahead of us. Dyson shook his head then gave her a hug. Suddenly they were back in the motel room. Andy looked around.
"Lucky bastard. You can teleport here!" She then realized that Dyson was still naked. She glanced around hopping Sam and Dean were not looking. The thing was, Sam and Dean weren't there. She looked out the window. The Impala was gone. Her heart sank. They had taken off.
"Where is everyone?" Dyson asked. Andy turned to him.
"I think they left. Probably got a bit freaked out." Dyson shrugged.
"Dean will be back."
"What makes you say that?"
"You."
"What about me?"
"I saw how he looked at you. You're right he loves you. Trust me. He'll be back. You're worth it."
"Where are we going?" Dyson asked Andy as he climbed onto the back of her motorcycle.
"Nebraska. I have some friends there," Andy replied. She started her bike and pulled away from the motel, hoping that there wouldn't be too much trouble from the patch of freshly disturbed dirt that now occupied the space bellow the back widow of their room. Dyson had been kind enough to close the tunnel that he had made but convincing the grass to regrow was a different issue. Andy got them to the Roadhouse late that night. They were still open though and full of people.
"Are you going to be ok with this many people all at once?" Andy asked Dyson. He squared his shoulders.
"I'll be fine," he said. Andy shrugged and opened the door. Jo was behind the bar and she could see Ash at one of the pool tables. Jo glanced up when she heard the door open. Her eyes widened when she saw Andy and Dyson walk in. She disappeared for a moment and came back with Ellen. Andy took Dyson's hand and led him towards the back.
"Hey Ellen, sorry to drop this on you. This is Dyson, he's an…old friend. He needs a place to stay for a bit."
"Sure honey, you know where to put him," Ellen said as she eyed Dyson up and down. She took Dyson to the only empty back room and sat him on the bed.
"I'm going to talk to Jo for a second. Will you be ok here?" she asked. An anxious look crossed Dyson's face for a moment, but he nodded. "Ok, I'll be right back." Andy went back to the bar and ordered two whiskies. When Jo brought her the glasses she leaned in and spoke low.
"Is that him?" she asked in a confidential whisper. Andy glanced at her.
"Is that who?"
"Dyson? Wasn't that the name of your old lover?" Jo asked urgently. Andy blanched as she realized she had completely forgotten about her and Jo's drunken heart to heart. She nodded. "How is that going?"
"Not great. Kinda shit actually. He…ran into Dean…" Andy replied with a sigh. Jo's eyes nearly bugged out of her head.
"Damn..." she drawled.
"You said it," Andy replied and took the whiskies back to Dyson.
Dyson settled in surprisingly well at Harvelle's. Some how, he and Ash got talking about string theory and multiverse theory and talked and argued for three hours straight.
"Alright, I like this one too," Ash eventually said looking at Andy. She blushed a little and grumbled. Andy filled Ellen in as much as she could about Dyson.
"Ellen, look, Dyson is…a bit different. Like, most hunters would probably shoot first and ask questions later with him." Andy had sat Ellen down one night after closing and poured a three finger whisky for her.
"Come again?" Ellen said.
"You know how I once told you that you don't know everything about me? It's kinda like that. Dyson has…abilities."
"Like…like Sam?"
"Sort of, but not really. Just, don't be too surprised if he seems to move really fast…or suddenly has a blade in his hands ok?" Andy said with a pleading look. Ellen stared for a moment then nodded her head and took a long pull of her whisky.
It took about a week for Andy to see the tension between Ellen and Jo had spiked to a whole new level. They snarked at each other almost every day. More often than not, they would try to drag Andy into it as well.
"Andy was hunting before she was 21, why the hell can't I?" Jo yelled at Ellen one night.
"Andy clearly didn't have someone to tell her what a colossal fool she was being when she started," Ellen shouted back. Andy decided it was time to step outside before either one of the angry women in the bar tried to corner her. She went out back to her star watching spot and looked up. She fell into the sky for a while until she heard the front door of the bar slam shut and she heard quick heavy footsteps. Jo stormed towards her, not even really registering that Andy was there.
"Rough one?" she asked when Jo made it over to her.
"I can't do it any more Andy. I've made up my mind. I'm leaving. She can't keep me from hunting if I'm not here!" Jo shouted the last few words. Andy sighed.
"If that's what you want Jo. Just promise you'll take care of yourself, and send postcards," Andy said putting a hand on her shoulder.
"Come with me Andy," Jo said turning to face her. "Come hunt with me."
"Jo," Andy said sorrowfully, "I can't right now. Dyson…he still needs a familiar face around. I…can't leave him yet." She glanced at her friend. She could see Jo was cooling off a bit and seemed to understand what Andy was saying. "I'll come visit though. Once you get your feet under you." Andy was flattered that she asked her to come with. But she couldn't leave Dyson. He was still getting used to people again and she wanted to help him get settled in the world. Jo packed that night and was gone early the next morning.
It was a few weeks after coming back to the Roadhouse that Andy caught wind of a case that was close by. It looked like a basic salt and burn so she decided to check it out. Dyson was still a bit shaky about being left alone, even though he and Ash were starting to become really good friends, he wasn't comfortable staying there by himself. So, they set off to Milford, Nebraska. Andy had been right. It was just an angry spirit taking its frustration out on ex-husbands. Andy and Dyson got to the cemetery around midnight. Dyson started the digging while Andy held the light for him.
"I have to say, this is the one part of this job you do that I am not a fan of," Dyson admitted.
"Yea, I'm not really a big fan either," Andy said. Andy then suddenly noticed the temperature drop.
"Dyson!" she called. He looked up quickly.
"I got it," he said and hopped out of the hole. It was a bonus to have someone around who could always see ghosts whether they wanted to be seen or not. Dyson managed to keep the spirit occupied while Andy finished digging, salted, and torched the bones. Satisfied that the job was done Andy turned back to Dyson. He was looking intently at something she couldn't see. This was not an odd occurrence, but she wandered over anyway. She heard him speaking but couldn't quite make out what he was saying. Then she heard him say,
"Hey, wait a second," then he vanished. Andy stopped dead. In general, Dyson suddenly disappearing was not an odd occurrence either, but he was in a new world, with new monsters, and when he disappeared Andy had no way to get in touch with him.
"Shit," Andy said under her breath. Unfortunately, the only course of action for her was to either leave and hope Dyson would find his way back either to her, or to somewhere familiar. She waited for a half hour before she gave up and went to crash in the motel room. There was nothing else she could do. He would just have to come back on his own. At 10am her phone rang. It was Ellen.
"Did you lose something?" she asked, a mix of confusion and amusement in her voice.
"Is he there?" Andy asked hoping that she was right.
"He's here," Ellen replied.
"Good. I'm going to kill him."
When Andy got back to the Roadhouse she marched right up to Dyson, gabbed him by the collar and threw him into a booth.
"Dyson Connor you will never leave me alone in a cemetery at midnight again, do you understand?" Andy scolded. Dyson looked at her confused.
"What? You saw me follow that guy."
"What guy?" Andy asked in equal confusion.
"The old guy at the cemetery. I was following him." Dyson said adamantly.
"I only saw you talking to thin air and then you vanished. Where the hell did you go?"
"He was a Reaper, I followed him."
"You followed…a reaper." Andy was dumbfounded. The only time Andy had ever encountered a reaper was in the hospital when Dean was in a coma.
"Yea, I followed him and then went to see Death about a job." He said it so casually Andy almost missed it.
"Hold up…you did what now?"
"The reaper led me to Death, like the personification of Death. He's like the head reaper. Anyway, I figured I would offer him my services considering what I can do, but he turned me down. Which I thought was a bit rude, but what can you do." Dyson finished. Andy stood where she was, stunned.
"You met…Death…Death?" Andy said. Dyson nodded. "You had an interview with…Death…" Andy put a hand to her head. "Honey, you know I love you but what the hell!?" Andy shouted. Dyson flinched. "You just wandered off and left me freaking out about where the hell you had gone and then pop back here saying you met Death like it was nothing!"
"I'm sorry, I thought you had seen where I went."
"That's great. I accept, but…Jesus. Dyson, you can't do shit like that!" Andy sighed.
"Shit like what?"
"Like leave me in the middle of a cemetery at midnight and not tell me where you're going or where you might show back up. You don't know this world all that well yet and there are things out there even you should be a bit scared of. Like DEATH!" Andy said. Dyson just shrugged.
"Sorry," he said. Andy threw her hands in the air.
"I need to get out for a while." she said and went to her room. She sat on her bed for a long while. Eventually she decided to call Jo and told her what had just happed.
Maybe you should come out here for a visit.
That's not a bad idea actually.
Thought so myself.
Done, I'll head out tomorrow morning.
See ya in a few days then!
You bet!
So, Andy checked with Dyson, who said he would be fine. Ash and he had a project they wanted to work on. Andy drove out to Duluth, Minnesota to see Jo. Just as she pulled up to Jo's building her phone rang. It was Dean. It was the first time she had heard from him since Dyson had shown up.
Dean?
Hey Andy, any chance you've heard from Sam recently?
Sam? No, why?
Ok, if you do can you let me know, and see if you can get him to call me?
Sure Dean, but…what's going on?
Thanks Andy
The call ended. 'That was weird,' Andy thought. She made sure that her ringer was on just in case then knocked on Jo's door.
They had a good few nights. Drinking beer, playing pool and darts. Even found a classic arcade to play around in. Then Jo had to work, but Andy wasn't quite ready to head back to the Roadhouse yet. She hung out at Jo's apartment and watched some TV and tried to give Sam a call. It went right to voicemail. She shrugged and turned her attention back to the tv. That night she went to the bar Jo was working at to pick her up. It was taking her a bit to come out. She had said she would be ready to go by 1am. It was now 1:45am and Andy was getting a bit worried. She wandered over to the bar and peered in the window. What she saw sent a cold shiver down her back. Jo was tied to a post and Sam standing over her with a knife. She stared for a moment. She knew it couldn't be him. Not really. She turned slowly away to avoid being noticed and pulled her phone out.
Andy?
Sam is in Duluth Minnesota.
I know I'm on my way – wait how do you know.
Dean, you better get here quick. Something is not right. He's got Jo tied up.
…Andy, just stay there. I'm 5 minutes away.
It took everything Andy had not to go charging in and take Sam down. But she knew better. Dean was true to his word and was there in 5 long minutes. He looked at her, gun drawn. Andy nodded at him and they went in, one after the other.
It was hard to watch Dean hold Sam at gun point, and even harder to hear Sam ask his brother to shoot him. As Dean lowered his gun and turned away Andy pulled out her little flask of holy water and manipulated it out while Sam shouted about Dean being so afraid to be alone he would let Jo die. At Dean's small nod Andy flung the water at Sam's back while he threw his own on his face. The tell tale his of burning demon told them everything. The demon ran and crashed through the bar window. Andy waved Dean after him while she untied Jo.
"He was possessed?" she called after Dean.
"There is no way Sam would ever do something like this on his own," Andy said trying to be reassuring. Once, Andy had checked Jo over they went after the boys. There was no sign of Sam. Jo kept calling Dean with no answer. They found him by the sound of Smoke on the Water coming from his phone. He was lying on a dock, soaking wet with a bullet wound in his shoulder. Andy sent Jo back to the bar to find a first aid kit. The first thing out of Dean's mouth when Andy got to him was.
"Where's Sam?"
"Don't know. We were looking for you. Come on get up," Andy said grabbing him and hauling him up. Dean groaned. With Andy's help he managed to find his feet. He stumbled a few times as they made their way back and he was breathing heavily from pain and cold. She got him back into the bar and sat him down. Jo placed a bottle of whisky in front of him. Dean drank while Andy dug the bullet out of his shoulder. The moment it was out Dean tried to stand.
"Cool your jets and give me a minute to patch you up." Andy said reaching for the gauze. Dean caught her wrist.
"Andy, I don't have time for that." he said looking meaningfully into her eyes. She glanced at Jo and shook her head. Jo gave her a questioning look. "Andy…please." Dean said. Son of a bitch. Andy sighed and slipped into her healing sight. She made quick work of it. Not perfect but it wouldn't get infected or cause him to bleed to death. Jo stared at them open mouthed and wide eyed.
"I told you; you don't know everything about me." she said quietly. Dean looked between the girls, then grabbed his jacket.
"Where do you think he's headed?" Jo asked.
"He's been going after hunters. The closest one I know is in South Dekota," Dean said.
"Bobby…" Andy said quietly. Dean glanced at her and nodded. Andy swallowed. She hadn't seen Bobby in close to 7 years.
"Ok, let's go," Jo said.
"You're not coming," Dean said firmly. "And if you try and follow me I will tie you right back to that post and leave you here."
"I'm a part of this now."
"I'm not going to have your blood on my hands Jo, that's just how it's going to be," Dean said. He looked at Andy.
"If you think for one second you're going to pull that crap with me Dean Winchester, you have got another thing coming," Andy growled. "It's Bobby." Dean took only one moment to look taken aback. She turned to Jo.
"Sorry Jo, I'll call you when it's over."
Jo nodded, but she didn't look happy.
Andy followed Dean on her motorcycle. When they got to Bobby's neither of them were surprised that he had everything in hand. Sam was set up in a chair right under the Key of Solomon trap. Andy and Bobby only spared a moment for a quick hug and an "It's been a long time," before they got to work on the demon. But the exorcism didn't work.
"I've learned some new tricks," the demon in Sam said. The room shook and the ceiling cracked. Suddenly Sam had shoved Andy against a wall and was trying to punch the life out of Dean. Andy got her eyes focused just in time to see Bobby, badass that he was, burn the binding link off of Sam's arm. Immediately the demon smoked out of Sam. He looked around for a moment.
"Did I miss anything?"
Dean punched him then fell over. Andy picked herself up and put a hand on Bobby's shoulder.
"Nice work old man," she said with a smile.
"I can be quick on my toes sometimes," he said back dryly. Andy picked Dean up and put him in a kitchen chair while Bobby made an ice pack for him.
"Let me see that shoulder," And said as she pulled Dean's arm out of his jacket and overshirt.
"Ow, god Andy, easy," Dean complained.
"Yea, bitch reopened the wound," Andy said. She closed her eyes and resealed it with a bit of energy.
"Thanks," Dean muttered.
"You know, you really look like crap Dean," Sam said a little guiltily.
"Yea, right back at'cha," Dean said. Bobby wandered over to where the group of them were.
"You ever heard of a hunter called Steve Wandel?"
Dean shook his head.
"Wandel is dead, killed in his own home. You wouldn't know anything about that?"
"Nope, never heard of the guy," Dean said.
"Keep it that way," Bobby nodded. Andy glanced at Sam. She could see the hangdog look on his face. Something told her that the demon had done something to Steve while in Sam's body. Bobby gave all three of them anti-possession charms and the left. At the bottom of the stairs Andy caught Dean's arm.
"Hey boys," she started. They both looked at her, a little wary. "Look, I understand why you…took off…after Dyson. Truly. But I just want you to know…I'm still here for you. Both of you, if you ever need." She looked between the boys. "I mean it. Please, don't shut me out."
"Thanks Andy," Sam said and pulled her into a hug. She squeezed him back and gave him a smile. He wandered away, giving Dean a pointed look. Dean sighed. He looked at Andy for a long moment.
"Dean I –" Andys started to say.
"Andy, I'm sorry. I'm sorry I bailed on you. It's just…I know you said we were good…but I…I didn't want to let myself really believe that. But you came through for Sam and me, and…I owe you for that."
"Dean you don't owe me anything," Andy said reaching out to him. Dean caught her hand and brought it up to his lips and kissed it softly. Andy's heart fluttered slightly.
"Andy, you deserve so much more than what I've been giving you. But I want you to know, I want to be in your life. No matter what."
Andy blinked at Dean. This was probably the most emotionally honest she had ever heard Dean be.
"Ok then," Andy said a little stunned.
"I'll see you when I see you then," Dean said and kissed her softly. Andy watched him go.
"Hey Dean," she said. He turned back to her. "You might want to think about getting those symbols tattooed on. A lot easier to keep close than some little necklace charms." Dean smiled at her and nodded.
"Thanks for the tip babe," he said with a wave and followed Sam over to the Impala.
Andy went back to Duluth to face Jo, who sat her down and grilled her for information for a few solid hours. Andy was surprised she hadn't freaked right out and told Andy never to darken her doorstep again. For that vote of confidence, Andy told her everything. Who she really was, how old she was, some of the places she had been, and some of the things she could do, both in and out of their world. Once they got through all that they both crashed until late afternoon. Then, Andy took them to get an anti-possession charm tattoo. Andy had hers between her shoulder blades, Jo on her hip. Then life went on.
