Trips and Trouble - Okinawa Here We Come!
"Are you sure you have everything?"
Violet asked her sister with worried eyes, for what felt like the tenth time today.
"I'm sure," Lotus said
*CLICK*
Lotus blinked, rubbing her eyes due to the sudden surprise of a flash brightly going off in her face.
"Our little Lotus taking her first school trip!" Ethan spoke teary-eyed, semi-hiding his face behind a camera.
"Make sure to get all the good angles, Ethan. We'll be sending these picture to my parents," Violet said
"You guys….you act as if I've never been on a trip before. Violet, we used to travel around the world," Lotus said
"Yes but-" Violet seemed to choke on her words before she rushed over to Lotus pulling the younger sibling into a tight embrace. "It's the first time you won't be traveling with family!" Violet started to pet her sister's head in a reassuring manner. "Who will be there to protect you?"
"Protect me from what? What do you think is going to happen to me?"
"Fret not my love for I have gotten this for Lotus."
Ethan held up something out, presenting it to Lotus.
"Don't worry you can go through airport security with it too."
Ethan smiled proudly as he presented to Lotus a pink collapsible police baton.
"I'm going on a school trip, not to a riot! I'm not taking that thing!"
When Lotus was finally able to escape her home, Saiki just so happened to be right outside his home. It was almost as if he had been waiting for her, but of course, he wasn't. Saiki and Lotus being outside together was pure coincidence, something Saiki repeated to himself as he locked eyes with the pink-haired girl.
"Hey, Saiki!" Lotus greeted with a smile and a wave.
Saiki analyzed the girl seeing she had two pieces of luggage with her. A pink pastel medium-sized hard side rolling suitcase and hiked on her shoulder was a matching duffle bag.
"How'd you get all of that in pink?"
"Ethan," Lotus answered
"That raises even more questions."
Saiki and Lotus traveled together to school where the rest of the class met up. A short bus ride later everyone was at the airport anticipating for the trip to officially kick-off. That is until the weather report came on.
"There's a saying, 'Trips and trouble go together'. Unfortunately, we're learning that the hard way."
A large group of students were gathered together staring at a screen tuned into the weather channel. Right now the screen projected the tracking of a typhoon, its pathway intersecting with their flight's route.
"Due to a typhoon, the 10'clock flight to Okinawa has been temporarily delayed."
A woman's soothing voice spoke over the PA, but despite her calm pleasant tone, her words brought nothing but despair to the high school students.
"Wow, I've never seen a group of teens look so down before."
"Our school trip might be over before it even begins. 10 minutes ago everyone was filled with pure joy, then they heard about the typhoon…."
"It's an extreme 180 of their moods."
"I've never seen extreme joy turn to extreme sorrow so suddenly. They're in the depths of despair."
Saiki and Lotus looked around the room staring at their classmates.
Mera dejectedly held up her plane ticket, "And just when I thought I'd finally be able to go."
Teruhashi had her eyes closed, arms crossed, her brows furrowed, a small frown on her lips. "~I thought I'd finally be in Saiki's group.~"
Saiki looked over his shoulder. "And this guy…."
Kaidou smirked holding a hand, "Ha, school trips are so lame. We should totally skip it. What do you say, Saiki?"
That was the attitude Kaidou had been sporting earlier but now, the poor guy was whimpering in a chair, his knees pulled up to his chest.
"Poor guys been dying to go. Those bags under his eyes tell me he was so excited he couldn't even get to sleep last night."
"And take Yumehara."
Earlier Chiyo had been showing off the large number of snacks she had packed for the flight. Now she was staring off into the distance munching down on her snacks like they were about to expire.
"Kitaro looks like a kicked puppy."
Kitaro who was hunched over his seat, hands on his head.
"~All Mom's hard work to pay for my trip was wasted. I even took a part-time job to save up a little extra, so I could get everyone a nice souvenir.~"
With the soft dewy tears in the poor teens, large eyes Kitaro did indeed look much like a kicked puppy.
"Finally there's Nendou."
"Blonde babes everywhere shooting guns."
Lotus sighed palming at her face, she had given up trying to explain to Nendou that Okinawa was not a foreign country.
"He was excited too but now look at him."
Nendou still had a smile on his face but this one was abnormal, at least for Nendou, not to mention he had dropped his pants and was now flashing his naked behind out the window.
"Temporal suspended you meant moonarely rear-ended."
"Nendou's definitely taking it the hardest."
"He still can't face reality."
Several students gathered around Coach Matsuzaki questioning the man about what was going to happen to their school trip.
"Sir, if the flight can't take off, will the trip be rescheduled?"
"No, it'll be canceled." Coach Matsuzaki said
Gasps of shock emanated across the room.
A blonde teen ran up gripping the front of Coach Matsuzaki's tracksuit.
"You may not care about this, but we've been looking forward to this trip fore-!"
The shouting teen was cut off as something fell from Coach Matsuzaki's jacket. More gasp echoed out of the students as a pack of UNO cards landed on the ground.
Coach Matsuzaki turned away from the students. "I do want you kids to go." The man's words came out strained as if he was holding back his own set of tears. "But it's out of my hands now."
"Mr. Mastuzaki! No!"
"This is brutal."
"Come on you guys don't give up hope yet!" Hairo shouted before turning to the window. "Come on sun give it all you got!"
No one responded to Hairo's shouts, in fact, most of the class was now huddled in a corner with an air of gloom hanging over them.
When Hairo saw no one was partaking in his cheers for the sun he turned shouting to his peers.
"Come on you guys do it with me!"
"Wow, they aren't even responding to Hairo. They must be really taking it hard."
"I never knew the immanence weight a school trip held. I guess growing up the way I did makes this not seem like a big deal but for everyone else…."
Saiki glanced at Lotus, her lips were downturned in a small frown, and she had one of her hands clenched over her heart. The sadden emotions of her fellow classmates truly tugged at her heartstrings, and Lotus's sad face tugged at Saiki's.
Lotus's sad face quickly changed into one of determination and she clenched her fist to her sides turning around.
"Sai-!?"
She had turned to speak to Saiki but was surprised to find he was gone. Before she could even begin to ponder where the pink-haired boy had gone off to another weather announcement came on.
Lotus almost gaped seeing that the typhoon was gone, wiped off the weather map like it never even existed.
"Hey, the flights back on!"
"The typhoon just disappeared!"
"Okinawa here we come!"
Cheers rang throughout the airport, some teens were even crying out of pure joy. Lotus was happy that the trip was no longer in danger of being canceled but she still gave her classmates a raised questioning brow.
"Why are none of them questioning how a severe weather anomaly could just disappear like that?"
Kaidou, who had been standing just a few feet in front of Lotus, turned around. "Hey, Saiki where have you been?" He asked
"Huh?"
Lotus quickly whipped her head to the left to find Saiki was back to standing right next to her, but the boy was now soaked head to toe in water.
"Why are you wet?" Kaidou asked
"Never mind that. I just paid a little visit to a typhoon in Okinawa."
"Here you go, Saiki."
Lotus held out a puffy pink towel towards Saiki. Despite the fact he didn't actually need the towel to dry off, Saiki took it anyway, wicking away the water on his face.
"Saiki."
Saiki looked to Lotus, she had her hands clasped in front of her lips, but he could still see the smile she held.
"You're truly amazing."
*DOKI DOKI*
Saiki continued to towel off using the borders of the pink towel to hide his small smile. When he was done using the towel Saiki let it rest on his shoulders.
"Let the school trip officially begin"
Lotus smiled nodding her head in agreement. "Yeah!" She cheered fist-bumping the air.
"Liftoff!"
Hairo cheered as the plane took off into the sky, expressing the excitement that the entire class had.
"I was worried for a sec."
"It'll make a great story at least."
"Hey teach let's play UNO."
"I'm pretty tough to beat," Coach Matsuzaki said
Lotus had a window seat, that so happened to be one row in front of Saiki.
"Oh wow were up in the sky. How do you open this window?" Nendou questioned
"I'm just glad everyone is in good spirits again."
Lotus giggled a bit, "Thanks to you Saiki."
Everything seemed fine until Saiki heard an odd noise coming from his right. He looked over to see a shaky Kaidou holding a small bucket.
Having heard the groaning from the boy as well Lotus sat up on her knees peering over the back of her seat.
"Kaidou looks paler than normal."
Sitting in the aisle across Teruhashi was able to witness the distress Kaidou was in.
"Kaidou are you okay?"
Kaidou let out a choke whispering himself to "Pull it together." He looked to Teruhashi giving her a shaky strained smile. "I'm fine."
"Why don't you take some motion sickness pills?" Teruhashi suggested
"The flight attendant brought some to me, but they didn't work at all. I thought I had brought the kind that worked but I must've left them at home on my desk. The flight is only 2 and a half hours, I can make it." Kaidou ended his explanation with another strained smile.
"~Teruhashi's smile made me feel much better-~"
"Are you okay?"
The moment Nendou's face came into view Kaidou lost it, vomiting in the bucket he held.
"Hey, why'd you start puking as soon as you saw my face?" Nendou said
"Poor Kaidou," Teruhashi said
Saiki sighed, "Just listening to that makes me feel sick too."
"It is a rather nauseating sound."
Lotus smirked, cracking her knuckles.
"Alright Saiki, this one's mine. Were not that far off so this one shouldn't be too difficult."
Lotus got up from her seat heading to the plane's bathroom. When the doors lock clicked close the girl inside vanished.
Kaidou's mother was spending her free time without her son just like any other mother would do, by digging through her son's things. Currently, the silvered haired woman was on her hands and knees searching underneath her son's bed, searching for any unsavory forms of reading. She was rather relieved as she didn't find anything of that sort.
While she was busy snooping a pink-haired young lady appeared.
"Don't mind me."
Lotus spotted the air sickness pills on Kaidou's desk, just where he said he had left it.
"Huh?" Mrs. Kaidou grasped a notebook pulling it out. "What's this about?"
What she had pulled out just so happened to be Kaidou's dairy, the one dedicated to his alter ego.
"Poor Kaidou…"
Lotus grabbed the pills and was gone just as fast as she came.
"Ahhh! I feel so much better!"
"That's a relief," Teruhashi said
Kaidou let out a relieved sigh placing a hand on his chest.
"Who'd of thought that I left my pills in the pocket of my other clothes."
Lotus peeked over her seat to Saiki, giving the boy a wink and a thumbs up.
"So you got a weak stomach there, runt?" Nendou laughed
"If you found out what your Mom found in your room, you'd be sick again. Teleportation and a wrestling a typhoon, I need a nap."
"Hey, Saiki…."
Before he could rest his head, Saiki looked up to the still peeking Lotus. She was pointing downwards to his lap. Saiki glanced down to see a small box wrapped in pink cloth resting in his lap. How'd he not feel that there?
"I packed a little something for the plane ride, I thought you'd might want some too, especially with what you did earlier."
Lotus gave the boy another subtle wink before disappearing back into her seat. Saiki felt the heat of his cheeks slowly coming but chose to ignore it as he went to open the food. Just as he was about to unwrap it a loud agonizing moan echoed a few rows behind him.
The wails of pain didn't go unnoticed as a stewardess stopped to check on the poor soul who was clearly in pain.
"Sir are you okay?"
"Huh?" Nendou questioned
"What's with him?" Kaidou said
Takahashi was sprawled out in his seat clutching his stomach, loudly crying out from the pain he was experiencing.
"Seriously what now?"
"We got a passenger in distress here!" The Stewardess exclaimed
"My stomach is killing me!"
"Hey, you okay Takahashi?"
"Oh, it's just Takahashi, well then back to this." Saiki tried to go back to Lotus's packed treat but the Stewardess's next words made him halt.
"Help Doctor! Is there a Doctor on board!" The Stewardess shouted
"No! What are we gonna do!"
"If we act now we act now we land in Fukuoka!"
"Like hell we will. We've come too far, one way or another we're making it to Okinawa."
"What are you going to do Saiki?"
"I can't take it anymore, get me off this plane now!" Takahashi cried
"Just hold on, we'll land soon!"
Saiki's eyes opened widening, "Restore!"
"Ahh! The pain it must be something serious-huh…" Takahashi's cries of pain immediately died down and he sat up. "The pains gone."
"Incredible Saiki! I didn't know you could heal people like that!"
"I didn't cure him."
"Huh?"
"I used my restoration power to rest his body back to what it was like yesterday."
"Wait doesn't that mean the same time around tomorrow he'll be in pain again?"
"I'm gonna have a great time in Okinawa now!" Takahashi smiled giving a thumbs up.
"Yeah, good luck with that."
"Well...at least he'll have easier access to a hospital."
Saiki mentally sighed leaning back into his seat. "I had to use my powers yet again. Now I really need a nap. Something on my stomach will help too."
With the chaos stalled Saiki opened the napkin, inside he found a few cookies. He grabbed one taking a bite, savory its sweet taste before he drifted off to sleep.
Lotus glanced over her chair again and a small smile grew on her face seeing a sleeping Saiki, with one of her cookies hanging out of his mouth. Not being able to help herself she pulled out her phone snapping a quick picture of the moment. She turned back around settling in her seat before she pulled out a book starting to read.
Lotus was only a few pages in her book when something pinged through her mind, almost like a small alarm bell went off just for her.
"Breaking news!"
"Huh?"
Lotus sat up straighter in her seat as the voice of what sounded like a news broadcaster rang through her mind.
"We have reports of a terrible accident. A plane carrying students on a school trip had to make an emergency water landing. The downed aircraft is flight ASO-815."
Lotus silently gasped standing up in her seat, as she did that Saiki jolted awake.
"You okay there girl buddy?" Nendou asked, seeing Lotus's abrupt upright position.
"Uh, yup, just got a leg cramp, better go walk and stretch it off," Lotus said
She quickly got out of her seat walking down the aisle of the plane, with Saiki following a few steps behind her.
The two made it to the back of the plane quickly hiding behind the curtains that the flight attendants used.
"Saiki what-?"
"So you saw it?" Saiki stated
"Yeah, but what was it that I saw?" Lotus asked
"A prophetic dream."
"Whoa, so I read your mind and saw your dreams?"
Saiki nodded his head.
"Well, I guess that makes sense. I've never seen your dreams before, but then again it's not like we fall asleep near one another on a daily basis. But," Lotus gasped, finally realizing the situation, "That means that this plane is going down."
"This is just getting ridiculous."
Lotus groaned putting her hands on her head, "What powers above don't want us going to Okinawa? How can we stop this? Maybe that restore power, if you quickly showed me we could do it together."
"No, the plane's problem might have happened more than a day ago. We need to find out what causes the crash first."
"Ah," Lotus's eyes brightened as she got an idea," Let's listen in on the pilots in the cockpit!"
Saiki nodded agreeing to her idea.
The moment the two psychics tuned in the pilots were already having issues with the plane.
"Oh no that doesn't look good! The needle on the gauge is spinning like crazy!"
"What do you mean that gauge there! What's happening?! Try pulling that lever there!"
"It's not working, it's not doing anything!"
"Try clicking some of those yellow and blue buttons over there really fast!"
"Click! Click! We're losing altitude!"
Lotus sweatdropped, "What kind of pilot school did those two go too?"
"This is bad! This is really bad! If we don't do something fast the plane is gonna crash into the water!"
The plane started to shake and tilt, throwing those who weren't seated off their feet. Lotus, who wasn't prepared for the sudden shift, fell forward right into Saiki. The all-seeing Saiki, had a firm strong stance and barely moved at all even with the added weight of Lotus, landing on him. His body moved before his mind could catch up and he wrapped his arms around Lotus. The pink-haired girl quickly got her bearings but froze realizing she was in Saiki's arms, her head resting right on his chest. Her eyes winded a bit and she felt warmth spreading upwards and across her cheeks, she hadn't even realized that she was gripping onto the front of Saiki's shirt.
She slowly looked up, meeting Saiki's eyes and the two seemed frozen, faces only about a foot apart. Suddenly the plane tilted the other way, and this time Saiki was not so grounded and as Lotus fell back he went with her. Lotus's back hit the wall and Saiki right in front of her. He quickly put his hands up on the wall, one on each side of Lotus's head, preventing his body from landing on top of Lotus, but the distance between the two grew even smaller.
Now Lotus's face was completely red as she stared at Saiki.
*DOKI DOKI DOKI*
"I wonder….what his eyes look like without his glasses?"
Saiki seemed to be frozen just like Lotus, that is until the plane's altitude decreased, even more, the metal contraption dropping further down.
"We're not gonna last much longer."
"W-What do we do," Lotus spoke, stuttering, the volume of her voice much softer than normal.
"Stay here."
Saiki vanished leaving behind the flustered Lotus.
Only a brief moment passed before the plane started to straighten out and regain its altitude. Lotus calmed her breathing, placing a hand on her chest as she tuned back into the cockpit.
"Sir were gaining altitude!"
"Wow really! I guess banging on stuff really works!"
Lotus once again sweatdropped. "Seriously, how'd you two become pilots?"
"Well, the problem isn't fixed but….don't know how but we're still flying!"
"Lets land while we can!"
"Whoo! We're here!" Nendou cheered
All of the students filtered off the plane blissfully unaware of how close they came to a watery landing.
A sluggish and drained Saiki had to be helped off the plane, one arm over Kaidou another over Lotus.
"Hey buddy you don't look so well, pull it together," Nendou said
"Haha, so planes make you motion sick too," Kaidou said
"How many troubles do I have to deal with on this trip?"
