Donna swallows a small gasp as she enters Harvey's office, concern rattling through her voice as she takes in his bruised cheek. "What the hell happened?"
He glances up, wincing through his puffy left eye, and annoyed by the question. After all, it was her idea that kicked him out of bed this morning while she was still sound asleep. "You told me to settle things in the ring with Samantha, so I did."
"I didn't tell you to let her win." She rounds his desk, worriedly lifting her hand which he quickly bats away.
"I didn't let her do anything, Donna. The more pissed off person usually has the upper-hand."
She stifles a smirk, realizing it isn't the injury he's upset about, it's the fact he lost. "She beat you fair and square?"
He scowls, and she quickly glances over her shoulder, making sure his reception is empty, before she sits on the edge of his desk, close enough so their legs are brushing. "Did it at least help?"
He sighs, and then nods. His ego took a beating, but he didn't hold back, which created a new found respect between himself and Samantha. He may never live down the fact she kicked his ass, but at least they're on better terms now."We're good."
"But she was better," Donna teases, swallowing a chuckle when he glares at her.
"How about this?" She leans over, tucking her fingers beneath his jaw with a gentle stroke. "When we get home tonight, I'm going to take extra special care of you."
His eyes—even the bruised one—light up as he swivels in his chair, pressing his thigh into her calf. "Yeah?"
She nods, grinning as she drops her hand. Even though she's glad he squared things away with Samantha, they still haven't told Louis they're seeing each other, and she doesn't want to get caught out by idle gossip.
He misses the warmth of her leg as she stands up, but his disappointment doesn't stop a smirk twitching his lips. "Care to go into details?"
"You're an idiot."
Her beaming smile says otherwise, and he watches her sashay out of his office, realigning his chair.
He might have lost to Samantha, but he won the grandest trophy of all—spending the rest of his life with the woman he loves.
