Eragon the new hope
Okay simply put this is the starter chapter but also a foreward/atlas.
Disclamer: Do not own the inheritance Cycle, or any characters unless they are stated OCs.
-Starting off this chapter is more… a look into the changed world and lore of the land… For this Alegeasia, is that the land mass seemed much too small in the books. Not to mention there are very few places, towns and the like for it to be well an empire, much less just a kingdom with a handful of lords. Could be how it should be… But going to try and double the land mass as to make travel more – Note just means the dragons get older as they reach the next place. Sure traveling 1k miles is easy on horse back, but even so that is just 100 miles. On foot its more like 50 miles for the well trained. So more travel time just to make things well easier on the dragon need to grow. Just noting this… Still in planning stages as of yet.
-Tech, will go over the tech of each civilization in Alegeasia.
-Dwarves; As much as the smithing dwarves and such is nice… I think it is a bit lousy that the beings in Alegeasia didn't seem to try and advance. Cause even the stone people would be able to advance and with their and even the elves being appart from Galbatorix's rampage, they would have advanced a bit more. Maybe not the elves… But later reasons.
Dwarves here will be smiths still but they have more a steampunk like tech level. Starting with blackpowder weapons and the like. Even having a few special weapons like heated weapons that can partly cut into other weapons thanks to their tech in their weapons. Shock weapons: Simple as that they shock you. Low settings can stun you, higher settings can kill you. But they rely on their charge crystals which only has so much energy before the dwarves have to plug that crystal into their steam engines for power. As such. Trojem will be more like tech tower over a hulk of carved stone. Sure they still have marble and stone floors, but they will have the steampunk look to their civilization, having lost the least.
They have under the mountains in deeper tunnels these deep roads that they upgraded with a form of faster transportation to take dwarves and goods from one side of the mountain to the other. Good news is they sealed the entry on the west side of their mountains, the entry at Orshiad meaning it won't be used for the urgals.
And the Az Sweldn rak… I hated their deal in the books, bemoaning their royalty for the last century and hating Galbatorix, Yet a new rider arrives and they blame him like he murdered her? No… Thus for this. There are two Az Sweldn raks. One that is their cannon moaning pissing selves, and the other side that joined the Varden and produces warriors and mages that more than happily assist the Varden in their war.
Then lastly we do have a few that would accept the skies since they are named Fanghur, they indeed raise these creatures, and their shrieking is tamed so they can be used for war. Shrrg and they have the giant wolves as pets surprisingly, and they help their brother tribe of Narga. Narga have the boars and have the tamed version of them more for growing food than war, So the Narga dwarves are more farmers and herders than warriors and miners.
-Elves: Thanks to their love of nature whatever tech they have is minimal and built around their love of nature. They might have an alterier way of power, similar to sun power using specific trees to help them grow in strength and helping their race grow.
As such the Elves here besides being a bit more energetic will still be near the cannon selves so there is that.
-Humans: Humans were trying to learn steampunk tech even get their first steam engines going. But Galbatorix happened and sucked up all the information and dismantled/destroyed any working steampunk tech he couldn't take with him. So in a way Humans got the rawest deal of the races besides Urgals.
-Urgals – Still the same brutes but maybe a bit more… diplomatic after Durza…
-Magic: Magic still works the same as in the book just that the system works a bit differently.
Magic users will have a mana pool to pull from before the magic starts draining their vitality. Think of it as Final fantasy 2 where you have HP and MP – If you use up all your MP then it starts taking from your HP though it doesn't work that way in that game… you get the point. MP is there to be used as the main power, but if it isn't sufficient for the spell cast then the spell digs into your vitality.
-Dragons: Okay so the dragons still are bodied, however there are several eggs in the possession of the varden and the elves. Several eggs parade through the elven city and the Varden. Sure they would try more in the empire so they are left with the 3 or 4 thousand of the varden to test and see if any would hatch. While a pair of eggs stay at the varden and the elves.
That aside dragons here are a mix of their book form and the movie form (I just like the mane idea and a bit more sleek look over spikes up an down them). That aside they also have static energy which is their mana power, and can easily share it with their rider. The more static they have the more mana they have to share… But it is effected by their size. The larger the dragon, This also has the side effect of letting them use minor spells and even use the static energy in attacks. Young dragons(1-2 month olds) can only hope to stun creatures at most. At their riding size their 2 or 3 month old one they can cause a bit of damage and have a bit of a tesla effect around them as they can attack at a range equal to their length in diameter around them.
On this... The books and such were scarce in the manner of size description and growth speed. All we got is a small possible idea that Saphira by the end of her first half year was around twice the size of a horse, in height and 3 or 4 times them in length, if not more. That said, they seemed to grow a bit more after their first half year. So here is my figuring. Saphira by the time her first year was over, when they reached Ellsmera she was around 16 or 20 foot tall, and using my own dragon length system, she would be some 48 foot long, or 60 foot long. If these dragons were 4 times their hieght then its 64 long or 80 long. And wing span would be at least the dragon's length, magic or no. That said this is cause by figuring Oromis's house/hut on the crags is a 32x32 beast and by the books "It looks like it would easily sit between Glaedr's ribs. Meaning that Glaedr's ribs were at least 32 or so foot in diameter. So my brain figured this dragon was 100 foot tall and at least a football field long. or even a bit longer considering it was dependant on if the Alegeasian dragons were 3 times their height is their length or if it is 4 times their height is their length, and this is saying that saphira is 1/3rd his size. Meaning that dragons after 1 year old stop doubling in size quickly. And with some simple math, as the book says Glaedr is 300 years old or so. meaning that Saphira from her 1/3rd his size would slowly grow to his size over that time. and with that, I figured out the yearly growth rate to keep it constant was around a quarter foot in height. Meaning 3 quarters or a foot in length, and that is per year to reach Glaedr's size in 300 years from her first year. And why he is still 3 times her size even after eldest with her having another year on... Well not only had he grown as well but she had only grown by as much as he had keeping to the same sizing surprisingly.
At mature age they can focus that static into a beam attack along side their fire breath. This static can also form a shield around the dragon and does make attacking them with weapons harder thus why no iron or even steel weapons can easily hurt a mature dragon easily unless the dragon has been tired out and its static energy has been drained away.
Also talking About Eldunari... Eldunari discharging was suggested after a dragon matured enough. Well I figure a dragon's mature size was around 100 years. Of course breeding maturity is at 6 months but is considered not mature size. CP never said what the mature size of a dragon was. at least for the riders. And well all things considered. Riders undertook a decade's worth of training at least before their first mission. Meaning their dragon was at least 10 years old. So by that metric that was the mature size at the time... But not disgorging size for the Eldunari. Meaning the riders had to undergo the second or even third stage of training before the dragon was at that point. And the rider wouldn't learn of the Eldunari till the second stage if not third stage of training... which by Galbatorix's reckless journey north he had to of learned about the Eldunari before his mission, Meaning he was still brash after stage two. or he had only done the first stage of training. Still losing his dragon and sanity. And he seemed to have stolen the first dragon the first time he got into one of the rider's holdings, killing the rider and dragon and taking the eldunari and breaking the mind of the first dragon... Digressing, a bit of a plot hole there... But lets continue.
After their bond with the Elves the dragons gained language… no litterally they gained language and could talk telepathically with any race. As the humans arrived and proved to be worthy they added them to the bond but humans were not as effected by the dragons and didn;t have more than maybe lengthened lives unless they were riders. Dwarves were added to the bond magic but as the last of the races to be added thus the fall of the riders and dragons didn't effect them as much. Urgals were added before the Dwarves however attempts to get urgal riders were tenuous at best with how urgals brought their infamy to the table. But they had the chance at least.
Dragons live in covens. Normally led by the alpha female of the coven. Covens ranged from 4 -10 dragons. This more to spread dragons out along the lands. Alegeasia having tones of dragons thanks to this.
Also this means that even though Galbatorix and the mad riders of his might have killed the dragons around the humans the elves had a coven left but thanks to the grief they had gone into stasis unable to be reached or asked to help they slept trying to outlast the mad king and if not they would become stone in their attempts. But they did give the Varden and the riders their eggs before entering stasis.
Dragon population 31 in stasis 16 rider eggs dragons alive: 4 teachers in Ellsmera 3 forsworn and Shurikan
Broken down more on the eggs 8 eggs with Varden and elves; 8 with Galbatorix.
Forsworn alive – Morzan, Kialandi and Formora; Galbatorix himself too
Morzan has an estate or hold near or is the head of Gilead
Dragon – Thornak Male wine red
Kialandi Beltona is his estate
Dragon – Sorvora Female Brown
Formora Dras Leona is where she stays
Dragon – Morjera Female Orange
(The dragons erasing the names of the forsworn dragons was just BS just so that Chris didn't have to come up with names, as such Here that event didn't happen, if it did the dragons should have just… erased the forsworn dragons instead they just erased their names. Here this doesn't happen. But they are still broken and mad, and why the four dragons haven't created more eggs, The eggs that Galbatorix has are ones salvaged from the last battles with the riders. Also Not up to date on Eragon lore and naming methodology so feel free to suggest name changes for dragons.)
Eggs
As for the eggs making their way to other races as of yet besides Humans and Elves? Not yet, Dwarves were still stubborn and refuse to get involved with dragons even if they were included by the dragons. And even the Fanghur didn't get a chance since the cowardly Az Sweldn rak wanted to start a clan war if they ever saw a dragon egg. Urgals never got to see eggs thanks to the predjudice and their lack of refined diplomacy with humans or elves.
The other side of eggs is that they end up choosing their riders before they even hatch. There is a way to tell if you are picked, if in darkness after touching an egg a star appears on your hand you have been picked. And that egg will shock anyone else that touches it, but it will not shock the one that touches it.
Other than that the Eggs are just ovals and at the size of a human head. Unless the mother dragon was a century or more in age.
Vaults of Souls
Vaults of Souls… Yes Vaults, The riders didn't construct one vault nor would they have wrought any in the last days of a freaking war, no these vaults were created before the war, back when the riders still had themselves and all to trust. With dozens of riders and many more dragons to watch over. As such there are Vaults surprisingly in different places. There is one in Ellsmera, on on Vroegard, the largest but the one thought destroyed and thus left alone by Galbatorix. One in the center of the Hadarac Desert. Then one under Tronjheim The one in Uru'baen sacked and being used by Galbatorix, the second largest cache of Eldunari, but luckly with no dragon eggs. The dragon eggs removed but the Eldunari left behind more cause it would be hard to move a few hundred Eldunari.
Also each Vault has a keeper, but if there is no keeper left, then the default method of entering is saying one's true name. Keeper of Vroegard was Vrael but he passed on. But upon the blood oath celbration a new leader will emerge for the riders. The Ellsmera vault has the Queen as the keeper, but she will not open it for the new riders till the time is right. The Hadarac Vault has the wandering tribes leader as the keeper. Tronjheim has the King Dwarf as its keeper. This was constructed and allowed during the peace time that the riders had before their fall. Uru'baen's had been kept by the human king, however, with his death and the passing of the crown to Galbatorix he gained the key thus all the Eldunari inside.
A rule to this, is anyone opening a vault will be linked to it, allowing them to enter at will… however they may not open or use other vaults. As a safe guard they will only know something important is behind the doors but not what is behind them. So this means our different riders will need to split up whom gets what vault since they will have a point where they know of all the free vault locations are. But will only be able to have one or two open the vault to get at the Eldunari. We can however say that it is possible to have the key to all of them, but only as the leader of the Riders. So that is the caveat that will be had so that the Vaults can all be emptied then refilled with Eldunari. Well is an issue for future MMPluc to deal with.
That aside during the war Galbatorix did capture over a hundred Eldunari to use himself. Each of the Forsworn had 5 Eldunari each. But didn't stop some from grieving too much and turning on themselves in suicide… Brom killing 1 or 2… then the experimentation of one… And several others passing away under circumstances not yet understood leaving the current 3 Forsworn left and Galbatorix himself.
Oh, must add, Saphira was critically injured however using a the stasis spell he was barely able to have Glaedr to help him get his Saphira to the elves and from there the Elves helped her but had to keep her passed out even to the day of the start of the book we have her healing in Ellsmera.
With the king's eggs under lock and key and the mad king having seldom events every decade the eggs do not hatch though he might not realize that some of them might be destined for one of the other two races instead which is the case for half of the eggs In his hold only 2 going to hatch for him after the battle at Fathen Dur
We start… well perhaps there is more Going to include a steampunk boy, or attemptee that lives near Carvahalla and ends up with one of the eggs after the capture event.
