While venturing further into the bayou, Louis asked Tiana. "Now, about this restaurant of yours, do you think it'll have étoufée?"
"Jambalaya, gumbo, beignets…it'll have it all." replied Tiana.
Louis could feel his mouth watering as he said. "I always wanted to try red beans and rice, muffulettas, po' boys…."
"If you think those eats are good," said Luna. "You should try the food at Dad's resturant in Royal Woods."
"Oh, your pops is a restauranteur as well, huh?" asked Louis.
"Yeah, he is!" replied Lynn.
"In fact, once we're human again," said Leni. "You totes have to see what Lynn's Table has to offer."
"Like his famous Lynn-sagna…" I added.
"…and his mac 'n' cheese bites." added Lori. "The sweet, literally, brings out the salty."
"Oh, stop, please." begged Naveen. "You're making me so very hungry."
As he said this, a flock of mosquitoes flew past him.
Naveen noticed Hops's tongue sticking out with hunger, then noticed his tongue doing the same as well.
"Interesting." he said, hopping from Louis's nose to the water.
"What's wrong with Naveen?" asked Leni.
"Apparently, his amphibian instincts are starting to take effect." explained Lisa.
"Shh, Lisa! You are frightening the food." whispered Naveen, who tried to catch one of the mosquitoes with his tongue, which got tangled around his head.
"This is harder than it looks." he said, trying again, only to caught a little branch while Hops easily caught the mosquito that was on said branch.
My sisters laughed while Lana exclaimed. "Hops: 1; Naveen: 0!"
Tiana stifled a laugh when she spotted a firefly passing her and looking at the moon while sitting on a dandelion.
As she stared at the firefly, Tiana noticed her tongue sticking out.
With a gasp, she covered her mouth, then put her finger on Lisa's, saying. "Oh, no. Don't you say it, Lisa. There is no way I am kissing a frog and eating a bug on the same day."
But as Tiana spoke, her tongue got the best of her.
While Naveen finally got the branch out of his mouth, he noticed the same firefly. So did Hops while trying to catch another mosquito.
Tiana tried to take control of her tongue, but it stuck out to catch the firefly, at which Hops and Naveen aimed theirs, only to be tangled with Tiana's.
All three frogs were pulled together by their tongues, bumping into each other as they fell into the water.
"Hello." Naveen said awkwardly to Tiana and Hops.
Tiana pushed them away as she got up, only to see that her tongue was still entangled with Hops and Naveen's.
"OMGosh!" exclaimed Leni when she and the rest of us saw what was happening.
"Ya ain't whistling Dixie, Leni." said Louis.
"Who's Dixie?" asked Leni.
"Never mind." Louis said as he scooped up Tiana, Naveen and Hops, binding them together into a ball with their tongues, then placed them back down in the water, asking. "How's that?"
We looked at the bounded frogs, then at Louis, whom Lynn asked. "Is this really the best you can do?"
"Uh…hang on. Old Louis will be right back." Louis said quickly, scatting to himself as he disappeared through the brush.
On seeing Luan staring at her, Naveen and Hops, Tiana said. "Don't you say..."
"Well, don't you look...tongue-tied!" Luan laughed. "Get it? 'Cause you're tied together with your tongues?"
"She said it." groaned Naveen.
"Mm-hmm. After I specifically told her not to." Tiana said just as the firefly flew over to us, saying. "Now why do y'all have to be so dang critical-like? That line was pure comedy gold. And that ain't no joke."
"Well, at least somebody's on the bright side of things." Luan laughed jokingly.
Lana rolled her eyes, then said to the firefly. "All joking aside, do you think you could..."
"Say no more, honey. I'd be more than obliged to offer my services." assured the firefly, who tried to turn his light on, only to hear a toot.
"Excuse me. Hold on a sec, will ya?"
He tried jiggling his light, which started to glow but went out again.
The firefly adjusted it like it was a bulb, making his light glow so bright.
"Oh, yeah. Now, we're talkin'."
"GET AWAY! GET AWAY! GET AWAY! GET AWAY!" Leni shrieked as he flew back down, assuring her. "Oh, it's okay, baby. I don't explode me. I ain't no firecracker! I just got my big butt glowing! That's right! Oh, the ladies love a man with a big back porch!"
The firefly looked back at the bundled frogs, examining them. "Oh, lord, you done this up real good, for sure. Now where does this tongue go to at?"
"The center, obviously." Lisa replied.
"The center, eh?" repeated the firefly, who clasped his hands together. "OK, now. Just follow the light and the sultry sound of my voice."
As he squeezed his way inside the frogs, Lana said. "You might feel a pinch or two."
Tiana yelped when she felt Lana touching her the moment she stuck her paw inside.
"Sorry, Tiana."
"That's it. You're gettin' warmer, kid." Lana could hear the firefly as she moved her paw around. "Warmer. Warmer!"
"OH!" Naveen exclaimed when he felt Lana touching him.
"Nah, nah, nah, nah, you're gettin' colder." said the firefly.
"Lana!" Tiana exclaimed when she felt Lana touching her again.
"Nope, still on the cold side." said the firefly.
Lana moved her paw while listening the firefly saying. "That's it! Go back the warm side now. Warmer. You're gettin' warmer. Oh, you're red hot, child!"
Finally feeling what she was looking for, Lana pulled out the tongues, saying. "Say 'AHHHHH.'"
She yanked the tongues, freeing Tiana, Naveen and Hops from their bounds.
"Hoo, hoo. Not bad, kid. Not bad." said the firefly, who extended his hand to Lana...before Hops caught him!
"Hey, what gives here?" he asked from inside.
"Hops, you spit him out right now!" demanded Lana.
Hops groaned, but did as he was told, letting the firefly out of his mouth.
"Blech!" he exclaimed upon seeing the sliminess that was on him.
"Sorry about that," apologized Lana. "Sometimes, Hops can't help himself."
"Oh, that's alright. It's not the first time this has happened, you know." assured the firefly, who had cleaned himself free from what was inside Hops.
"Still, with a light as bright as yours, I could use a guy like you in my crew." Lana said, extending her paw. "Lana Loud's the name, fixing things is my game."
"Likewise, I'm sure." the firefly said as he shook Lana's paw. "My given name is Raymond, but y'all can call me Ray."
"Dude, what's with the accent?" asked Luna.
"It's funny, no?" added Naveen.
"Oh, I'm a Cajun, brah. Born and bred in the bayou." said Ray. "Y'all must be new around here, huh?
"Actually, we're from a place that's literally far away from this world." explained Lori.
"Go to bed! Y'all from Shreveport?" asked Ray, whom Naveen stared at with confusion, saying. "Uh...uh, no, no, no, no. Uh, Lisa, would you care to..."
Lisa cleared her throat, then said to Ray. "As I have previously recapped, we've been respectively turned into frogs and rabbits by voodoo enthusiast, Dr. Facilier."
Ray looked at us rabbits and frogs, then said. "Well, that makes sense."
"And we were on our way to Mama Odie's." added Tiana. "We think maybe she can..."
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Mama Odie?" asked Ray.
"You know her?" asked Lynn.
"Oh, sure, I know her. But she resides that-a way, kid." Ray replied, pointing at the other direction.
We all looked up to see that Louis had returned with a stick, which he dropped, realizing that we knew he had taken us in the opposite direction.
Louis chuckled nervously on seeing the frowns on our faces, then tried to explain. "I was...well, listen, I was confused by the topography and the…the…the…the geography and the choreography and the…"
"Note to self," Lisa said to herself. "Never take directions from an alligator."
"You took the words straight outta my mouth." said Ray, who let out a whistle.
All around us, the bayou started glowing with lights…by more fireflies!
"Why not let my dear relatives take it from here." said Ray.
"Oh, I wish Bobby was here to see this." Lori said as she marveled at the many lights.
"Hey, Cousin Randy!" Ray called out. "You ready for a little bayou zydeco?"
"Ready when you are, Cousin Ray." Cousin Randy replied as he and his band started playing while Ray used a larva as an accordion, saying. "All right, Lulu. Let's get to it, darlin'."
As the fireflies flew around us, Luna said. "It isn't Mick Swagger, dudes, but it sure bounces."
"And speaking of bounces," said Ray. "Just follow the bouncing butt!
We're gonna take you there
We're gonna take you there
We're gonna take you all the way down
Gonna take you there
We're gonna take you there
We're gonna take you all the way
Goin' down the bayou
Goin' down the bayou
Goin' down the bayou
Takin' you all the way
"We've got the whole family here! There goes Mimi, Cousin Pudro. Hey, Grandmama, your light's out!"
Ray's grandma looked back, seeing that her light was indeed out. She clapped her hands, making it glow again.
Ray: We all gonna pull together
Down here that's how we do
Me for them and them for me
We'll all be there for you
We're gonna take ya
We're gonna take ya
We're gonna take ya all the way there
We know where you're goin'
And we're goin' with you
Takin' you all the way
Goin' down the bayou
Goin' down the bayou
Goin' down the bayou
Takin' you all the way
Yeah, you know
"Come on y'all! Keep that line flowing', and them lights a'glowin'!" Ray called as he and his family led us in the right direction.
While listening to the rhythm, I asked. "You think Lucy's still sore about being left behind?"
Naveen shrugged. "Eh, she doesn't know what she's missing."
