Hi! Long time no see for this series!
I've been so busy working on other projects as well as real life, and I just needed a break from this series. But now I'm back, and I hope you all enjoy!
They crawl on their hands and knees, bypassing as many branches as they can. Their nice clothes are already dirty enough as it is; they don't need to be scolded for any cuts and scratches as well. They generally tend to be more focused on having fun than being neat, but this time they at least try to make an effort.
Eventually, they break through into their favourite place in the world. Right up against an old stone wall and surrounded by bushes and trees, they're completely shielded from the outside world. Here, bathed in the dim green light with only the birds and insects as their witnesses, they're free to do whatever they feel like, whether that's relaxing, exploring or playing. Today, they choose the latter.
Wonder points up at the tree next to them. "Bet you I can get to that branch before you!" He then aims at the lowest branch; several meters off the ground and sturdy enough to support both their weight.
Chiffon looks up and smirks. "Bet you that you fall off."
"I won't! Just watch me!" Wonder runs for the tree and starts to scramble up. His hands and feet instinctively seek out all the knots and patches in the bark that help to propel him ahead of his sister, who by this time is hot on his heels.
But Wonder knows that he's got this in the bag. Chiffon doesn't climb as many trees or as often as he does, so therefore he knows more about them than she does.
And he proves himself right when he latches onto the branch and sits on it proudly, like it's a throne. He waves down at Chiffon to drive it home even further. She pouts at him and gives him a rude gesture, the one that they saw Mom give to the mailman last week.
He laughs over his victory. She laughs because she still had fun.
And just like that, they've both won.
