Chapter 10

Artemis's eyes fluttered closed as she heard a soft male voice chanting in another language as she began to drift off into darkness. Her mind went back to everything that they had been through so far. Had she done enough while she had been with the company. If she hadn't then there was a good possibility that Thorin would make her stay behind, and she had been brought there by Gandalf to help with this quest. And she knew what happened to the line of Durin and she was there for a reason.

A soft whimper left her lips as she went in deeper. She never thought that she would feel such pain. Granted yes she felt the pain of broken bones and sprained ankles and cuts that healed fairly well.

Much later she slowly opened her eyes letting out a soft groan as she slowly got up in the bed. She winced as she sat up. Her hand shot down to her leg where she had been shot at. She moved the blanket and looked at the wound. Her brows furrowed together as she noticed that it was healed, but the wound would alway be there. She swallowed the lump in her throat.

She slowly got up to her feet rather shakily as her door opened. Her eyes widened as she saw an elleth enter the room.

"My lady, I'm here to help you get ready." She said bowing her head slightly,

"Oh, but you don't have to…"

The elleth moved forward to help Artemis. "You are still hurting my lady. I'm here to make sure you don't injure yourself further."

Artemis took a soft breath knowing that was fairly true. She would have a hard time walking due to being shot in the leg.

AUJAUJ

She found the area where the company was. A small smile came to her lips.

"Try it. Just a mouthful." Dori told his younger brother.

"I don't like green food." Ori told Dori not liking the idea that there was no meat in the meal that was before him.

She suppressed a laugh at the idea that the dwarves loved meat and not vegetables as much as elves did.

"Kind of you to invite us. I'm not really dressed for dinner." Gandalf said with a small smile.

"You never are." Elrond told Gandalf before the both of them laughed.

"Ah Miss Houston, glad to see you up and moving around." He said looking at her his eyes twinkling in delight to know that the young woman was alright.

Artemis smiled. "I'm glad to be up and moving around. Thank you for healing me Lord Elrond."

"My dear it was the best thing to do. You are here for a reason. And a good reason at that. You have a long journey ahead of you and a dangerous one at that." Elrond told her. "I'm sure that your friends are waiting for you."

Artemis nodded her head. "Thank you." She said softly before limping towards the dwarves and the hobbit that she had grown close to for the most part.

"I really do hope that Artemis is alright." Bilbo said in concern. His heart had been racing since she had been taken to get healed.

"Oh I'm find Bilbo." Artemis said coming out into view.

"Artemis you're alright." Bilbo said in surprise to see her there standing safe and sound.

Artemis laughed lightly. "Of course, I'm alright, Bilbo. No wound would stop me from being alright." She fibbed softly knowing that the wound that she had was something much more dangerous than what they possibly could know.

"How long are you to stay here?" Fili questioned leaning forward.

"Well, I do not know. Lord Elrond hasn't told me. I'm sure that it will be soon." She said offering Fili a small smile.

Kili looked over at her noticing that she was wearing much different clothing than what she was wearing before. "You're wearing a dress."

Artemis let out a soft laugh. Of course Kili would point out that she was wearing a dress.

"But it's not elvish."

"Of course not." She said with a wink. "It is one of my own dresses. The only one that I have on me besides owning two skirts."

Kili's face went red in embarrassment. "You look beautiful."

"Come sit lass you must be starving." Balin said offering the young woman a smile.

"Yes, I am." She said softly before joining them to eat. She began to eat the greens that the dwarves could not. This was the first time that she gotten to eat since the trouble with the trolls that had broken her ribs when she had shoved Bilbo out of the way. She could not help but eat because she was starving.

Ori wrinkled his nose. "How can you eat this stuff?" He asked looking at Artemis. He was curious of how she could eat the greens that the elves had given her.

Artemis dabbed her mouth with a napkin. "Unlike you who got to eat before those trolls tried to eat us. I didn't have the chance to. Plus I'm human. We can eat greens. I happen to eat more greens than I do meat when I get the chance to." She told Ori with a small smile. She saw Gandalf and Elrond come out of the back area.

Gandalf came over to her. "I believe these belong to you." He said handing her her duel swords that he had given to her before the quest even began and the elven sword that he had given to her after the incident with the trolls.

Artemis smiled. "Thank you Gandalf."

"Come my dear. I'm sure that Lord Elrond wil know if your sword has been used in battle or not."

Artemis slowly got up to her feet and felt a tug on her injured leg. She had to be carefu not to rip her leg open. She excused herself from the dwarves and Bilbo to move to the other table.

Thorin's sword was first given to Lord Elrond to look at it.

"This is Orcrist, the Goblin Cleaver. A famous blade, forged by the High Elves of the West, my kin. May it serve you well." Elrond said returning the sword to Thorin.

Thorin accepted the sword with a nod of his head.

Elrond then began to look at the sword that Gandalf had brought to him. "And this is Glamdring, the Foe-hammer, sword of the King of Gondolin." He said handing it back to Gandalf. He then looked at Artemis who had another sword. "May I?"

Artemis slowly handed the sword over to Lord Elrond.

He began to look over it. "It cannot be." He said in surprise. "This sword has no real given name other than being called the Orc Slayer."

Artemis looked up at Lord Elrond. "Eversor." She simply stated.

"What?"

"Eversor. The Swords name. Eversor."

Elrond handed it back to her. He approved of the name that this young woman had given to this sword. "Yes, it is the companion sword to Orcrist. May it serve you well. For never before has it been in the hands of a woman."

Artemis carefully took her sword from him. She could only hope that it would serve her well as Lord Elrond had thought. But it is in her hands. The first female to wield it kind of scared her half to death.

"These swords were made for the Goblin Wars of the first age."

Artemis listened contently to what Elrond was saying. Perhaps coming across these swords was a good omen for them.

"How did you come by these?" He asked curiously how these three came across these three very well-known swords.

"We found them in a troll hoard of the Great East Road, shortly before we were ambushed by orcs," Gandalf explained to Elrond.

"And what were you doing on the Great East Road?"

No one replied the answer that he was looking for.

Elrond looked at Artemis. "Rest. Lady Artemis won't be ready to travel for at least a week. To make sure all of her injuries that she had received heal."

Gandalf nodded his head in understanding. He knew Artemis needed to heal as Elrond had said.

Artemis returned to her seat with her sword and began to eat again.

Thorin looked at Artemis with anger in his eyes. This young woman had pushed their quest further behind and it didn't please him in the least bit. He hated the thought that she had not told anyone how bad she was injured from the trolls. Thorin left the table. He didn't want to be anywhere near her.
