Chapter 4
Jackson spoke up next, "Now that I think about it, I wonder if some of the last words I got from Sloan were about you, Callie."
"What did he say?"
"He asked me to promise him something - 'If you love someone, you tell them. Even if you're scared it's not the right thing, or that it'll cause problems, or it'll burn your life to the ground.'" Jackson said.
Cristina piped up, "Oh my god, is that why you interrupted April's wedding to Matthew? You were heeding Sloan's advice!"
Jackson flushed at this. And that's probably all the answer that was needed. "On that note, my lunch break is up. Gotta go."
Richard followed suit, telling everyone he had a consult to get to. But before he left the room, he looked back at Callie, "You were prevalently in his last thoughts, Dr. Torres. Think about that."
Callie remained quiet for a few moments before saying, "What Jackson said, that was probably about Lexie, not me."
"Maybe," Miranda answered.
Meredith then said, "Or maybe it was about you, Callie."
Callie looked at Meredith questioningly.
"For Mark, telling Lexie he loved her wouldn't have burned his life to the ground. He had told Lexie that he loved her so many times – when they were together, when she was with someone else, even when Lexie absolutely hated his guts! But telling you, Callie, that would have been an enormous risk on his part," Meredith explained.
Callie was about to ask Meredith to explain, but Derek clarified. "You shared a child with him, Callie – with him and Arizona. If he told you he loved you at any point in time, how do you think it would have affected your friendship with him and your marriage then with Arizona?"
The remaining attendings were waiting for Callie to respond, but pagers blared. Derek, Meredith and Cristina all got up, said hurried goodbyes and left the room.
"Mark was not in love with me," Callie insisted.
Addison, who had been quiet since her quip about the sex tape, took her bag and rummaged inside.
Callie, Arizona and Miranda all stared at Addison.
Addison said, "After our call last week, I thought that you needed to have these. They were Mark's."
Addison reached over to Callie, handing her some things.
A couple of letters
And a ring box
