They walked around Disneyland only a few days later. Allie was enamoured. She had a bright, beautiful smile and a pep in her step. Although Dean had started off the day with his usual tough bravado... that had quickly fallen. The trio was having fun. Actually happy. Cotton candy on sticks and legs of meat were being carried around by children and adults alike. A few short but sweet hours of straight-up mayhem and childlike wonder could turn around a whole week. All the people... They had no idea. The truths were out there like serpents hiding in the night.
A wide grin took over her features as they got onto the teacup ride. They were fucked. Allie was going to spin that shit into space. "You guys should have said no!" They couldn't have. She gave a cute smile combined with big doe eyes when she asked. Was manipulation possible at Disneyland?
The ride started and Allie suddenly jerked the wheel around. Hard. It sent the boys flying back against the wall.
Dean Winchester let out a surprised yelp as the teacup they were sitting in suddenly veered wildly to one side, sending him and Sam flying against the metal walls. His grip tightened reflexively around Allie's waist, holding on for dear life as she giggled manically beside him. "Allie!" he growled playfully, trying not to laugh at their ridiculous predicament. "You little - !"
Sam Winchester squealed before he could stop the embarrassing sound from tumbling out, his hands gripping the sides of their spinning teacup as it careened wildly around the track. Despite himself, he couldn't help but laugh along with Dean; for once, they were just three normal people enjoying a day at Disneyland, albeit an extremely bumpy and disorienting one thanks to Allie's antics. He couldn't even imagine how Dean had lived with her for so long. Was she always like this when she wasn't hunting?
He glanced over at her, admiring how she seemed so free here; unburdened by the weight of the job and loss that had become all too familiar to them. "JESUS CHRIST!"
"WOOOOHOOOOO BOYS!" She yelled with glee and started to whip around the wheel faster and faster until she was forced between them from the breakneck speeds. Allie put her hands up in carefree enthusiasm as they twirled intensely. "Fudge yeah baby! Saturn here we come!" She didn't care if she sounded like a complete idiot. It was fun and that's what mattered. Right now they were just three friends having a damn good time. Even Dean. Which only added to her enjoyment.
Dean let out a loud laugh, his muscular arms tightening around Allie as they spun in their teacup. "You little nutjob," he growled in jest, feeling a strange sense of camaraderie and connection with her that went beyond hunting partners or even friends. The sunlight was hitting her hair. He'd never seen her so happy before. It was childish and almost innocent and... incredibly endearing. If only it could be like this all the time. The thought clouded with a brief melancholy. This would end. It always did.
"I swear to God if you get us killed here..." He trailed off, unable to maintain the threat when she was grinning so widely at him.
Sam held on tightly, his eyes closed against the spinning world outside their teacup to avoid getting sick. It was refreshing to let go for a moment; to forget about demons and monsters and just enjoy being alive in this chaotic, carefree way. He couldn't remember the last time he had felt so free, so... happy. They never did anything like this when they were kids. Did Allie know that? Did she know that this was something he had yearned for? The normalcy of spending a day with his family at an amusement park.
He glanced over at Allie, admiring her infectious joy as she giggled unabashedly, hands still gripping the wheel like it was a steering wheel instead of practically a toy.
When they eventually got out she watched as the brothers stumbled around in their dizzy stupor. "You guys didn't throw up, good job! Usually, people yack after." She wasn't lying. Allie was a fucking menace on the teacups.
"What's next? I'm kind of in the mood for some food," Another girl passed by them. She was wearing Minnie Mouse ears in the shape of hearts. "And those. I want those!" Her personality was an anomaly. Every day she was different. New.
Sam shook his head, trying to clear the spinning world around him as he followed Allie towards a nearby food stand. "I'm good for now," he managed between pants, leaning against the counter and ordering some fries and a Coke. Damn girl wasn't wrong though. Any longer and breakfast would have come out.
Dean finally regained his balance, chuckling as he joined them at the food stand. "Yeah, I'm good," he agreed with a grin, eyeing Allie playfully. "You know, you could have warned us about your...enthusiasm for rollercoasters." He ordered himself a burger and a root beer before turning to face Sam and whispering. "She's even hotter when she's like this. What the fuck?" He made sure to keep his voice low so Allie wouldn't hear as she ordered food.
Sam chuckled softly at Dean's comment, a small smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "You love it," he whispered back teasingly, unable to deny the truth in those words himself. Allie was radiating an infectious energy and joy that seemed to light up the entire park; she made even the most mundane moments feel magical somehow. Totally outta Dean's league. Jessica had been like that.
He watched as she turned around with their food, her golden hair dancing playfully in the breeze created by the fans overhead. The scent of vanilla wafted through the air. He wondered if those rumours were true. "Too bad for you, she seems immune to your shitty pick-up lines."
Dean rolled his eyes good-naturedly, but there was a hint of genuine frustration in his voice as he took the food from Allie. "Yeah, yeah," he grumbled playfully, taking a bite of his burger before turning to face her with an exaggerated pout. "You know you're missing out, don't you?"
She had no idea what they were talking about. It seemed that she walked in on the tail end of a conversation.
"What?" Her tone was quizzical and rather cute as she glanced around the park. "Did I forget something?" Dean's words confused her. "Missing out?"
Dean cleared his throat, trying to play it off casually. "Nothing," he said quickly, taking a swig of his root beer. "Just saying you're really cute when you get all...happy and carefree like this." He gestured vaguely at her pink Minnie Mouse ears with hearts on them that matched the ones she had been eyeing earlier. She had gotten them while waiting for the food. "I dig cute girls too, you know."
Allie's face fell into a theatrical frown. "Shit," She noted and pulled out her phone to check the time before a large sigh left her and she turned to look at Sam. "Did you cheat?!" Unbeknownst to Dean, they had made a bet on how long he could go without hitting on her. She assumed their setting would give some wiggle room. Nope.
Allie took out a twenty dollar bill and slid it over to Sam while waving off Dean's advances. "You couldn't have waited three more hours?! Now I'm down a twenty."
Sam choked on his Coke, coughing uncontrollably as he tried to compose himself. "What? No!" He spluttered between laughs, wiping tears from his eyes. "I swear! It's all him. Sorry, Allie. Looks like I'm walkin' outta here rich." He turned to look at Dean with a wide grin. "You lasted... 6 hours."
Dean raised an eyebrow in mock disbelief, taking another bite of his burger. "Bullshit," he said around a mouthful of food before swallowing and turning to face Allie with a charming smile. "Come on, you know I can't resist messing with you." He reached out to squeeze her behind playfully, earning himself a light smack across the hand from Sam.
"Ow!" he protested feigningly, rubbing his stung palm dramatically.
Sam laughed again, shaking his head at Dean's antics. Man, this was a good day. Actually, it was a great day. For once he was winning the bet. "You deserved that," he said, taking a sip of his Coke to calm down from laughing so hard. "So, what do you guys want to do next?" He asked, glancing between them as they finished their food. The park was still bustling with people enjoying the various attractions and shows; it felt like a world away from their usual lives filled with bloodshed and loss.
Dean finished his burger and crumpled up the wrapper, tossing it into a nearby trash bin. "I'm game for anything that involves hot chicks in tight clothing," he said with a wolfish grin, eyeing some passing women appreciatively before turning back to Allie. "What about you, firefly? You haven't ridden Space Mountain yet." He teased, nudging her in the ribs as they started walking towards the ride she had spoken of prior to their arrival.
Allie rolled her eyes as Dean spoke about hot women. "How can you be thinking about sex right now? We're surrounded by cartoon characters and whimsical... stuff," She raised a brow. Dean Winchester was a strange guy, that was for sure.
The trio stood in line for the ride and of course, the couple behind them was obnoxiously all over each other. She grimaced as they coated each other's faces in slobber from sloppily kissing. "Oh god!" She groaned in a hushed tone. "The worst thing about amusement parks. It's like watching a softcore porno in public. Ew," they were very clearly teenagers with no self-awareness.
Dean chuckled, leaning against the ride's entrance as they waited for their turn. "Well," he drawled with a shrug, "I can appreciate beauty wherever I find it." He glanced over at Allie sidelong, noticing how her eyes sparkled in the bright lights of the park and feeling an unexpected surge of attraction towards her. That just happened sometimes with her. Sure, she was his friend but she was still attractive.
"Besides," he added with a wink, "it keeps things interesting."
Sam chortled at Dean's bluntness, trying to focus on the ride ahead of them instead of the way Allie's body pressed against his own in their tightly packed space. She smelled like candy and sunscreen; a heady mix that was making it hard for him to think straight. Sometimes he ached for closeness with another person, in whatever way that could be. "You know," he said casually, clearing his throat nervously as they finally boarded the rollercoaster car, "you look really happy today."
Allie settled in enthusiastically. "Well, we are at the happiest place on earth." She referenced the popular quote and clicked the button on the side of her ears, causing them to light up. Doe eyes glanced up at both of them and she gave a rather youthful, innocent smile before nudging Sam's shoulder. Today was different. Normally she could be a bit prickly. The blonde held a facade just like Dean did in an effort to conceal herself and therefore deflect emotional pain but today? It was nice, that was all.
The ride started quickly. She had never been on it before. It wasn't scary, though she did hear Dean's giggles. Nerd. The stars were pretty.
Sam wrapped his arm around Allie, holding her tightly as the ride took them on a wild journey through twists and turns. He couldn't help but smile at her transmittable excitement, feeling himself getting caught up in the thrill of it all despite his initial hesitation. "You know," he said softly into her ear, leaning closer than necessary given their proximity, "you really do bring light to even the darkest situations." His voice was low enough so only she could hear him over the screams and roar of the rollercoaster. He hadn't thought about it much. His attraction, that was. He was still mourning Jess but it seemed to come out naturally. Maybe he was just lonely.
Dean couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy at Sam's words, his heart racing as he realized just how much Allie meant to them both. She was more than just their hunter mentee; she was a friend and confidante but Dean hadn't really seen her interact with anyone else and he'd never had such a close friend before. He didn't know how to handle her attention on others, no matter the gender.
As they disembarked from the ride, still laughing and giddy with adrenaline, he turned to face her with an uncharacteristically serious expression. "You're special," The words were serious but his tone still had a light teasing to it, just in case she didn't react well. He could play the whole thing off as a joke with minor repercussions.
The boys were being rather affectionate with her. It made her feel like melting. In a good way. Generally, men treated her like an object and flirted with her but it was always sexual. Receiving compliments based on her personality? Man, that made her light up like a Christmas tree.
When they eventually left hours later she found herself tired and happy to be back in Baby. "I'm gonna take a little cat nap, boys. Wake me up when we get back to the motel." She yawned and stretched out like a kitten in the backseat before lying down and closing her eyes.
Dean's words lingered in Sam's mind as they drove, a mix of emotions swirling inside him. On one hand, he was glad that Allie meant so much to them both; she had proven herself time and again to be an indispensable part of their team. But on the other hand, there was something else brewing between his brother and her - something more than just friendship. It wasn't jealousy exactly... but it was something. He hadn't seen it in his brother before and therefore it was concerning.
