Chapter Four:

Race for The Rainmaker

While Oneshot Wren was controlling the tower at Moray Towers, Inkura and her team, Team Limestone, representing Green Beans, were taking their side of the Tower Control challenge at Mahi-Mahi Resort. Not too long after Wren had beaten the Ink Brigade, the Squid Sisters began covering the action at the other arena where Inkura and her group were up against the KelpBuds.

In fact, the KelpBuds were all for potatoes, especially as one of them threw a potato at one of Inkura's team members, a green-haired Octoling, while she and the other Limestones were helping their leader defend the tower.

From the sidelines, a green Inkling boy in a mask was watching with a black-haired Inkling girl in a dark version of the Squidbeak Splatoon agent gear.

"My money's on you, Inkura!" Green cried, "My money is on you!"

"And I'm all for the potatoes." Dark Squid quipped.

"Oh yeah?" Green glared at the black Inkling, "And why is that, Dark Squid?"

"Well, it's because they're so good, you can eat them raw." Dark Squid replied with a sinister sneer.

"You should try beans." Green snapped, "They're so tasty, you can eat them boiled. I don't care for potatoes and you should go suck a Salmonid's Mohawk if you like potatoes so much, you ugly black-tentacled sack of bull-squid!"

"Yeah, beans rule!" A pair of Inklings wearing green bean shirts exclaimed.

"No, potatoes are the best!" Dark Squid yelled.

"GO SHOVE YOUR POTATO UP YOUR KRAKEN!" Green shouted back with fury.

"MAKE ME!"

A furious Green lunged at Dark Squid and the two Inklings started fighting, ruffling each other up while yelling at one another. Green and Dark Squid slapped each other, then the former punched the latter in the face, before Dark Squid kicked Green right in the groin. A couple Jellyfish turned their attention from the ongoing game to watch the ensuing scuffle.

In the arena, Inkura ducked just as a member of the KelpBuds threw a Splat-Bomb at her. The green-haired Inkling giggled, then she brought out a baseball bat and swung it as another bomb came in her direction. The bat hit the incoming bomb and sent it crashing into a nearby concert stage.

"Great Zapfish!" Callie exclaimed into the microphone, "Thank goodness someone wasn't hurt."

Meanwhile, Green and Dark Squid were still fighting, not even bothering to pay any attention to the match. Inkura didn't notice, especially as she was busy guarding the platform while firing on the KelpBuds that were trying to take it from her team. Inkura's team joined her, their weapons prepared, and sprayed the whole area in layers of green ink.

Seconds later, the whistle blew and the tower stopped moving. Judd and Li'l Judd entered the resort area, all judging the results of the event. Inkura pumped her fist excitedly, the KelpBuds looked anxious, and then, Li'l Judd raised the green flag while Judd did a belly flop.

Victory for Team Limestone and the Green Beans!

"Yeehee!" Inkura squealed.

"Green beans, green beans, green beans!" The nearby crowd of Inklings chanted.

"WHAT AN EXCITING BATTLE!" Callie exclaimed.

"Team Limestone is advancing to the next match!" Marie announced.

"And that does it for the Tower Control challenge, until the next match..."

"Stay fresh!" The Squid Sisters announced.

Green made his way into the arena and high-fived Inkura, complimenting his friend for her victory. Inkura hugged her masked friend, then she high-fived her other team members. The KelpBuds departed, groaning in defeat, and knowing they wouldn't be making it to the next match given their elimination from the game.

As for the Splatfest tally thus far:

Potatoes -1

Green Beans -1.

Camp Triggerfish was looking spick and span today, but not for camping or another regular Turf War event. Potato and Green Bean Splatfest banners had been set up and Jellyfish were on the sight with cameras ready, the second Splatfest match was about to begin and everything was in place for the big event.

Oneshot Wren stood on a Spawning Pad on a platform that overlooked a majority of the area, his charger polished and firmly in hand. Several platforms away, Wren's latest opponent stood ready, Inkopolis' most radical team ever, wearing full war costumes that reflected their nature; Hale Hydro, led by the infamous Red Tentacle aka Yohanz Splatz.

And, in the middle of the arena, based on a platform, was a shiny statue-looking Splattershot that resembled a fish; the Rainmaker.

For the second match, it would be none other than the Rainmaker Challenge, where players would race to take the Rainmaker and use it against the other player. Wren had played this challenge before, so had many other Inklings, and the King of Splatfest was more than ready, but so was Hale Hydro as well.

"Cut off one tentacle..." Splatz declared, "And many more will grow back in its place... HALE HYDRO!"

His teammates clicked their heels and raised their arms in a salute that was familiar to world history, one that was performed by a few human regimes from the Roman Empire to the Third Reich. "HALE HYDRO!" Splatz's crew declared.

"HALE HYDRO! HALE HYDRO! HALE HYDRO!" Several Inklings watching declared.

'I'll splat them all.' Wren thought, 'They fight for Green Beans, I FIGHT FOR POTATOES!'

"IS THE AUDIENCE READY?" Callie shouted.

"YEAH!" The Inklings cried.

The whistle blew and Wren leaped from his Spawning Point, he dashed to the Rainmaker platform and jumped onto a pole, then he launched himself into the air in a somersault and fired a shot at Hale Hydro, striking Splatz before the Inkling fascist could even act. Wren had battled Hydro before and he was not going to let them defeat him now.

"WREN KNOCKS OUT HALE HYDRO'S LEADER WITH A SINGLE SHOT FROM HIS CHARGER!" Callie commentated, "Now that was an impressive move and that shot was one in a million, it's like there is nothing that can ever take down this unsplattable squid!"

Wren dashed across the nearest platform, racing up the ramp while the camera crews focused on him, and he winked towards one of the cameras before jumping over the edge of the platform onto a beam, then he leaped on top of another platform and jumped to the next, right where the Rainmaker was just waiting to be obtained.

"And Wren gets the Rainmaker!" Marie declared, "His skills are astonishing to behold!"

"Now, he must defend it from Hale Hydro." Callie chimed in, "Will Oneshot Wren be able to fight them off?!"

Wren spotted Inksilver, Hale Hydro's best Octoling, racing towards him, and he fired off a shot from his charger. KA-SPLAT! Inksilver tripped, feeling the ink strike his leg, and he fell off the platform into the water. Inksilver yelled and struggled to get out, but as the water mixed with the ink that made up his body, the Octoling dissolved and his spirit floated away to his team's Spawning Pad.

Flashing the cameras a confident smile, Wren leaped off the platform and onto a plank with the Rainmaker still in hand. He dashed back towards his spot and turned to fire at Hale Hydro, preventing them from taking his prize, and Splatz super jumped towards the charger-wielding squid with a battle cry.

"LONG LIVE THE MIGHTY HYDROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!"

Wren ran as fast as possible, holding onto the Rainmaker as hard as he could, and made it back to his starting point. He raised the Rainmaker and placed on his platform, a light flashed and a torrent of ink shot into the air.

"NO!" Splatz screamed, "CURSE YOU, ONESHOT WREN! YOU HAVE ONCE AGAIN DENIED HYDRO A VICTORY AND DELAYED OUR PLANS FOR INKOPOLIS! WE WILL LEAD THE CITY INTO A SHINY FUTURE WHERE THE INKLINGS ARE THE MASTERS OF THE WORLD, WE ARE THE MASTER RACE, AND THE HUMANS IN THE LANDS BEYOND ARE INFERIOR TO US ALL!"

Wren smirked and watched as the Rainmaker did its thing, raining ink-fire down upon Hale Hydro, despite the opposing team's efforts to get to Wren's position. The whistle blew, signaling the end of the match.

Judd stepped forth with Li'l Judd, meowing as he gathered the results. And then, Judd raised the black flag, another victory for Potatoes and another victory for the one and only Oneshot Wren.

"YEAH!" Wren shouted, "Victory feels so good! Everything is comin' up Oneshot Wren!"

He stepped onto the Spawning Pad, waving to the cameras and the roaring crowd as Inklings chanted his name while confetti rained down. Seconds later, the Spawning Pad glowed and Wren exited the arena, ready to get some rest and to prepare for the grand finale. By this point, Team Potato had Team Green Beans numbered by two to one...
