May carefully brushed her hair whilst leaning against her locker. She had been waiting for dawn for awhile, even before her classes had started, but to her surprise she hadn't shown up yet at all. Was she perhaps sick? She let out a sigh as she bent down and dropped her hairbrush into her bag. If Dawn wasn't showing up, she knew she was going to be alone today.
Brianna had only come to school the first few hours, as eventually she had to leave for an appointment with her dentist. The day before Brianna had asked May if she could to head to her classroom to meet the infamous Drew Hayden. May was really curious about wether she had talked to him or not.
A FEW HOURS BACK...
May shoved some books into her locker. Before she could slam it should she flinched as she felt two hands on her shoulders and heard a girly squeal. 'May!' Brianna giggled, startling May in the quietness. Alarmed, May turned around. With her heartbeat fastened she tried to gasp for air. 'Brianna?' She croaked in reply.
'Hi!' Brianna whistled, dropping her backpack on the ground; May cocked her eyebrows at her cheerful attitude. 'Hi? You look really happy, did anything ha- oh! Oh my god, did you get to talk to Drew?' May asked, as Brianna's cheeks immediately flushed red. 'Y-Yes! I did!' She squealed, twirling around.
'That's- That's awesome,' May murmured. 'What'd he say? He didn't do anything mean or creepy, did he?' May over exaggerated, protectively placing her hands on Brianna's shoulders. 'Huh? No, why would he? I gave him this really cute rose charm! He told me I was really kind and that he would enjoy seeing me around! Isn't he the sweetest!?' She answered dreamily.
May awkwardly sweat dropped. Him? Sweet? Brianna had definitely forgotten how he had humiliated her- which wasn't so weird to think about knowing she has a major crush on the guy. 'Well, glad he didn't do anything to you.' 'May, you're just worrying too much! Once you're around in the school for a bit you'll get to know the real him!'
Knowing the real him, huh? If she were completely honest she already did - having seem him apart from his fangirls, he seemed a lot more whimsical, a lot more indifferent; unlike how Brianna had described the guy. But maybe she was wrong, perhaps he was a good guy, and maybe he had a bad day.
Refusing to think any second longer about the popular boy she let go of the lockers and checked her schedule; she now only had two classes left! In a happy mood she picked up her bag from the floor and whistled an upbeat tune as she made her way to her next class.
May nervously let the tip of her pencil run across the paper. Usually she had all of her homework finished before her classes would end, but now she was running behind pretty badly. She huffed before glaring around the overflooded classroom. All the students were chattering, and the teacher, surprisingly, did not look bothered at all.
Taking a quick peek behind her shoulder, she could see a few girls sitting around Drew Hayden. He had a casual frown plastered across his face. May wondered what all those girls saw in him- she had never ever been focused on romantic relationships at all.
Almost forgetting she had homework to do, she snapped back to reality. May wanted to turn around to continue writing down on her worksheets before the green haired boy glared back at her. As if he understood what she was thinking about, his smile cracked into a grin- which followed with a cocky wink.
Surprised, her eyes widened. She tightened her hand around her pencil as she felt her cheeks getting red. Not wanting to appear anymore vulnerable than she had already, she frowned and cocked her eyebrows at Drew as if telling him 'what do you think you're doing?' from a distance.
Drew rose his eyebrows whilst still smirking, as if amused. He then turned his head back to the girls around him and listened to the conversation with them. Although she couldn't hear what they were talking about, she wasn't really curious on knowing.
With thoughts about Drew Hayden running through her mind and irritation creeping under her skin she grabbed a blank sheet of paper from her bag, tore a piece off and angrily started scribbling across the paper. Who did that Drew Hayden think he is? Some sort of celebrity?
'What a douchebag,' she hissed to herself, not allowing for herself to turn around and give him the attention he was definitely longing for. 'Who is?'
May flinched upon hearing a voice behind her. She anxiously turned around- just to see an orange haired girl. Her hair was short, she had cerulean blue eyes and a smile on her face. Still slightly startled, May paused before answering. 'I... oh, nobody. Don't worry about it.' She retorted shyly.
The girl nodded as she smiled. 'Ah, OK! You're the new classmate, right? This seems like the first time you've actually spoken in class, thus why I was so intrigued.' The girl giggled, spinning her pen between her fingers. 'I'm Misty by the way!' she smiled. 'A-Ah, okay! Nice to meet you, I'm May.'
'Who was that douchebag, though? Or did you say something else? I might've misunderstood,' Misty exclaimed. 'Oh, no, I.. well.. I was kind of talking to myself, but I was saying that about Drew. Just a minute ago he winked at me,' May whispered, appearing embarrassed. 'Wait, The Drew? He winked at you? That doesn't happen much.'
'It doesn't?' May mumbled back. 'No, he's pretty uninterested in girls, but during class he simply can't escape them so he just has to listen to whatever they've got to say,' Misty giggled. 'Serves him right, honestly. I don't think he deserves the popularity that he gets.' Misty added.
May frowned. '...Right, the way he acts around those girls seems pretty fake-' 'All right, everyone! You can pack up your stuff and head where you're going next! I hope you all have a lovely rest of your day!' the teacher dismissed, as all the students immediately packed up their stuff and ran out the door childishly.
'I agree! Anyway, May, I gotta head off. It was nice meeting you! See ya!' Misty put all her stuff in her bag, and before May knew it the girl had already left. May sighed, smiling. She pulled herself up and lazily dragged her bag along with her.
School was done for the day, and to May's disappointment she didn't have all her homework done yet. Normally she'd go home and finish her homework there, but today her parents would work on the interior; and with all the noise she surely couldn't work.
So she decided to seek a quiet classroom to do some homework in. Especially at an hour like this most of the students must've left already, right? With her bag over her shoulder she walked through the hallways, giving each classroom that she came across a look.
After roaming the school for a minute May stumbled into a nice, airy classroom with plenty of windows and tables. The lights that were turned off and the tables who were pretty much clean indicated that she would work there alone, in peace. And even if a teacher happened to walk in she'd tell them that she sat down to work there.
She simply walked into the class, shut the door, headed to the back seat, put her bag on the floor and she got to work.
DREW HAYDENS POV
Speeding throughout the halls, getting lost from them is all what he was focused on. He just wanted to study in a quiet place for gods sake, not with girls chasing after him! Panting, Drew looked for an empty classroom as fast as he could.
He came to stop when, through a window in the door, he could see the inside of empty classroom. It looked like a nice enough place to finish his work. Barely gasping for air, Drew opened the door, turned around so he was in the classroom, and shut the door immediately without looking behind him.
'...Drew Hayden?'
Drew felt himself freeze; was this one of his fangirls? In a panic he turned around to look. But to his surprise, it wasn't a fangirl. It wasn't, but it was—
That brunette from before? Drew thought, cocking his eyebrow at the brown haired girl who was sitting at the back table with her arms crossed.
MAY MAPLES POV
No, It couldn't be! Not Drew Hayden! May felt her world crumble apart when the infamous Drew Hayden stormed into the classroom and shut the door, sweat running his forehead.
'Drew Hayden?'
Though she could only see his back, May could see he was in a state of panic. He even looked startled when she had called his name.
Alarmed, Drew Hayden turned around with wide eyes— they narrowed when he saw May. Whilst cocking his eyebrows he gave her a confused look. 'What do you want?' Drew snarled back. 'I'm here to study! And you can't just barge in like that!' May retorted.
'Then we're here for the same thing,' Drew huffed, lazily dropping his bag on the floor and sitting down. 'No! You're not sitting here! I can't concentrate if you're gonna make noise!' May hissed angrily, pulling herself up in protest. 'You mean you can't concentrate because I'm hot stuff,' Drew jested, twirling a pen he had pulled out of his bag between his fingers.
'You? Hot stuff?' May exclaimed, her eyes widening. 'Look. You may be popular and everything, but I don't care. I'm here for serious business, unlike you! You're just here to pester me and get me out of my concentration,' May groaned, stuffing everything back into her bag.
Drew confusedly looked at her whilst May tossed her backpack over her shoulder. 'I'm out of here— I'm gonna work somewhere quiet,' May noted, walking towards the shut door. Drew crossed his arms. 'Whatever. Just don't let anyone know I'm sitting here.' Drew replied.
'That makes me want to tell everyone, you know?' May commented snarkily, narrowing her eyes as she grabbed the door handle. 'There's no way you could,' Drew snickered back. 'Oh god—' May grumbled, trying to pull the door open— except it didn't work.
'What do you mean, oh god?' Drew retorted, looking at her with curiosity in his eyes. 'You slammed the door shut! Now it won't open!' May panicked, anger rising. 'You're just making that up so you have a decent reason to stay here,' Drew whistled as he pulled himself off of his chair. 'Let me try and show you.' Drew offered as he walked to the door.
Except, now, he looked terrified as well. 'Shoot, this thing won't open!' Drew hissed under his breath. 'So what'd I tell you, Mr know-it-all? You slammed the door shut! I need to pick up my little brother from his friends house later, damnit!' May yowled.
'How was I supposed you were sitting in here?' Drew remarked smartly. 'I am soooo sorry about your brother, but for now you've got to deal with it!' Drew snapped. 'How can I when i've got more things to worry about?' May hissed back irritatedly. 'I'm locked in a classroom! And if that wasn't bad enough, I'm locked with you!' May groaned, moving her face closer to Drew's so she could look him right in the eyes.
Drew looked surprised, almost embarrassed, as he stepped back. 'What's so bad being locked with me? Any girl would dream to have some alone time with me.' Drew retorted. 'Because you've got no manners!' May huffed, grabbing her backpack again and heading to the back of the class. 'No manners? Look who's talking— You walk into everything without knowing where you're going,' Drew snickered.
'I'm seriously so done with you!' May groaned, angrily slamming her book back on her table as she began to work. 'Then we're on the same page.' Drew chimed in.
The sky started to darken. May luckily was able to call her parents and tell them she wasn't able to pick up Max. Her parents were surprised about what she had told them, but were fine with picking him up themselves.
Now May and Drew were still in the same room. Once in a while May gave Drew side-eyes, indicating she refused to let him get any closer, or say anything for a matter of a fact. For as long as they sat there, Drew was constantly smirking. At her.
It was 7PM now already, and the school was definitely closed. How was she supposed to get home? With a guilty and afraid feeling in her stomach she let her shoulders rest, no longer giving any protective signs. 'So, do we sleep here?' May mumbled, loud enough for Drew to hear. 'Huh. I guess.' He sighed. 'I thought the cleaners came to clean the school every thursday.' Drew announced.
Suddenly, the door opened. An older woman stumbled in and she immediately appeared shocked upon seeing the two students. 'Students? W-Were you locked in here?' The the teacher mumbled in surprise as May nodded. 'Yeah. This guy here, shut the door shut and we couldn't open it.'
'You two, come out and head home! I could bet your parents are worried sick!' The woman yowled, as May and Drew nodded and pulled themselves up. With a side-eye, Drew immediately left the classroom. May was about to walk out when she noticed something on the ground—
A rose charm? May frowned. Was it Drew's? If it was, Drew must've dropped it while he hurried out of the classroom. Mays eyes widened when she put the puzzle pieces together. It was the charm Brianna gave him!
She picked up the charm, ran out the door and hoped that Drew was still there. But he wasn't— he had magically disappeared.
