Groaning, May walked through the halls with Drew's rose charm in her hand - she was sure, Brianna had given it to him! She obviously cared about Brianna, so she clearly hoped Drew had accidentally dropped the charm and not just dropped the item to get rid of it.
She knew what she had to do now; she had to return the gift. If Brianna were to find out she had it, she might assume that she stole it or something! Her pace immediately quickened as she grabbed her stuff and ran down the stairs as quick as she could run.
Brianna was coming to school tomorrow, so she had to turn it in right here and right now, she couldn't wait. With a bad feeling sinking in her stomach she couldn't see anyone around the cafeteria, or the halls for matter of fact. So, since he wasn't inside, there was one more place she could check.
Running out the front doors, she entered the front of the school. It had gotten so dark that May hadn't even noticed that it had started raining. Beneath the canopy, shielding herself from the rain, she looked around. And like she had hoped, right there, in the rain, was the emerald haired student.
'Drew Hayden!' May screamed out, as the student immediately turned around. In a quick pace May ran towards the boy who had paused right on the stone path leading to the exit of the school property. 'Hm? What do you want from me?' Drew asked indifferently, shoving his hands into his pockets.
'Oh, I see. You can't get enough of me,' he grinned. May couldn't help but blush slightly as she looked at the student with soaked hair and raindrops running on his skin. 'N-No, that's not it,' May murmured back, reaching for her bag. 'I've got something for you.' She announced, searching.
'Oh? A gift?' Drew mumbled in surprise, his eyebrows furrowed. 'No, not a gift.' May deadpanned as the pulled the rose charm out of her bag. 'Listen. My friend, Brianna, really admires you and she gave this thing to you. And you said she was sweet and you'd enjoy seeing her around,' May began, tilting the charm in between her fingers.
'...So I wonder how you could've just carelessly dropped this on the ground,' May noted, a serious tone in her voice. Drew looked slightly startled before he recovered and a grin reappeared on his face. 'I know you think I'm mean and all, but I'm not that mean. After all, I like roses, so I thought I'd keep it.'
Grabbing the rose charm from May's hands, Drew rubbed his thumb against hers in a playful manner, then backing off. 'Normally I'd throw everything away that my admires give me - without them knowing, of course.' He snickered, as May blushed again by his previous gesture.
'Now I'm gonna hope you're telling the truth,' said May irritatedly, clenching her teeth in annoyance. 'Cause, listen, Drew. My friend Brianna, she really likes you. As long as I'm her friend, I don't want you pulling any nasty tricks to leave her heartbroken!' She snapped.
Drew's former grin cracked into a what it seemed like a genuine smile. 'Okay,' he murmured, turning around. 'Well, you're a good friend, I can see that.' He chuckled, looking past his shoulder to shoot a glance at May. 'Thank you for returning this to me, whatever your name is.' He said, provoking information out of May.
Surprised by the sudden change of heart and formality, she could barely respond. 'The name's May,' she answered, swinging her backpack on her back. 'All right. See you around, May.' He huffed, quietly trotting down the stone stairs that led to the exit. '...See you around?' May murmured, watching the boy walk off.
Drew stuck up his hand into a half-hearted wave, then walking off. As soon as she knew it the student had disappeared in the rain and thick mist that had swarmed the air further ahead. May felt a weird feeling fluttering in her stomach; was it perhaps how he suddenly acted out so nicely?
May narrowed her eyes. She wasn't feeling anything for the guy, was she? Was this nice act to win her over or something? Clenching her fists she couldn't decide what to feel. but she knew she had to be careful; she was determined to figure out the very person he truly was.
THE NEXT DAY...
May walked through the halls, met by a very happy Brianna. 'May, hi!' Brianna giggled, running her way. 'I thought you wouldn't come! Normally you're here so early, what happened?' Brianna asked, tilting her head curiously. 'You won't believe it. The train was delayed, so I had to wait..' May huffed. 'You're kidding! Unlucky!'
'Literally.' May groaned. 'Anyway, what's your next class?' May sweat dropped, grabbing for her phone to see her schedule. 'I've got science,' Brianna answered, placing her hands on her hips. 'I've got Geography in let's see.. 1.22!' May giggled, looking on her phone. 'Oo! Then we can walk together, science will be in class 1.23 for me today!'
Brianna reached for May's arm and happily tugged her along as May let out a chuckle. 'Hang on, Brianna! Don't run so fast, you're going to make me trip!' She laughed, as Brianna slowed her pace whilst giggling as well. Suddenly, Brianna stopped. 'Oh my god!' She squealed.
Curious, May managed to free herself from her grip and looked over her shoulder. 'Why'd you stop running? What's going on?' She whispered, peeking over her shoulder. 'OMG! OMG! OMG!' Brianna squealed quietly. 'Look! It's Drew Hayden!' She giggled. 'Oh? Oh. Drew Hayden.' She huffed dryly.
'Not just that! He has the rose charm that I gave him on his jacket!' She squealed, her cheeks red. May stood next Brianna and looked at Drew. He was surrounded by a couple of girls, and he appeared pretty.. confident. 'Oh? That's awesome,' May giggled. 'I'm so happy for you!' Brianna chuckled childishly. 'I'm gonna say hi to Drew! Bye, May!'
May wasn't able to act before Brianna had run off. Chuckling, she turned around and headed to the staircase to get to her next class. After all, she didn't want to be too late. Humming a soft song she trotted to the classroom.
The classroom was still really quiet, even the teacher wasn't here yet. Skipping a few pages through a book she had in her hands, she hadn't even noticed the door opening. 'Ah, isn't it May.' Hearing her name, startled, she glared up. It was Drew.
With his backpack hanging over his shoulder and a grin on his face he approached her whilst walking to her desk. 'How nice it is to see you.' He mouthed, appearing friendly in a really fake way. 'Okay. What do you want from me, Drew?' May deadpanned, dropping her book in her bag.
'I'd appreciate a thank you,' Drew smirked, hanging over her table whilst playfully adjusting the rose charm that was now stuck on his jacket. 'Excuse me? thank you for what?' May laughed half-heartedly, not knowing why she had to thank him. 'For me sewing this pretty charm on my jacket.. so your friend could see it.'
May's mouth cracked into an 'O' shape. 'Oooh. You want me to thank you because you sewed that thing on there?' May huffed, cocking her eyebrow. 'Forget it, Drew.' She snickered, her eyelids sinking. 'Okay. Then I assume you'd love for me to take it off and make that Brianna girl sad, huh?'
May opened her eyes again, them this time filled with irritation. 'You're gonna play it that way, aren't you? Well then,' May sighed, 'Thanks Drew. She was really happy and I appreciate that.' She thanked, softly. A little bit of blush crept on Drew's cheeks, going unnoticed by May. 'Sure.' He huffed, turning around.
What was this guy trying to do? Drive her into a corner so she could no longer do anything? She relaxed her head and grabbed her book again. Before she knew it the classroom had been filled with students, unaware that the green haired student once again glared at her.
