May excitedly plummeted her stuff into her bag; this was officially her first ever school camp! She knew it sounded absurd that she hadn't ever been on camp before - her past school refused to go on day trips that could possibly last longer than a day. She wasn't sure why, though.
But, psyched, she could finally look forward for one of those long, exciting trips. She wasn't sure of what she was going to do, yet, but she could assume it would be fun. From Brianna she had heard stories that they went on scavenger hunts, did plenty of exploring and minigames in the forest. No boring school stuff!
She was curious about where she'd have to stay at; whether she would sleep or air beds in cozy tents, or an actual camp building. She had barely to no ideas. The uncertainty made her feel slightly more nervous, but it couldn't be helped. May was especially excited because Brianna's class was going, too. So she'd be able to see her!
With excitement making her heart thump faster in her chest, she stuffed the last bit of clothes and self-care products into her bag. She had to bring extra clothes, because who knew all that they'd do outside. She took her bags in her hands and started to make her way downstairs.
Giving her mother and dad a hug and yelling goodbye to Max who was lazily hanging on the couch, she opened the door. Luckily she didn't have to walk with her stuff for long, because at her school's location she'd be able to drop off her stuff and they'd take it to the camp. How were they even going to travel there?
Questions ran through her mind as she eventually made it to the train station. The train would arrive in a minute or five, she'd still have some time. Suddenly she felt her phone vibrate in the pockets of her miniskirt. Curious she snatched her phone, only to see a text message from Brianna.
'May, I'm at school and I'm about to step on the bus, so I'm assuming we're not in the same bus ): but I'll see you at camp though, I'll assure you it'll be awesome! Are you nervous? I've gone to camp before but I'm kinda nervous...'

May frowned. Aw, she wasn't in the same bus as Brianna! Fortunately she did know now how they were going to travel; with the bus. More ideas popped into her head as she furrowed her eyebrow and immediately started texting back, hoping to get an answer from her.
'Ahw, that sucks! But I'll see you at camp, though, so It's okay. Though.. question, how long is the ride to the camp? And do we have assigned seats, or do we pick? I'm sorry for all of these questions, I just want to make sure my first camp trip goes right, and that I don't end up humiliating myself, heheh...

May gazed at her phone intently, waiting for a response. Before she knew it Brianna was typing.
'The ride will be about an hour and a half! Long, right? It's pretty stupid, I don't understand why they did not chose a place that was... a bit more near our school. Uhm, but anyway, I hope your phones charged, or else you won't have anything to do during the ride ... and the seats aren't assigned, you should be able to sit wherever you want!'
9:36
May gladly took a breath, relieved that Brianna knew how everything was going to go down. Now she knew, too, and she couldn't mess up. Glaring up, the time that the train had to arrive came closer. Before she knew it the train sped by and came to a halt right in front of her. Swinging her bags over her shoulder, she stepped in.
May could feel herself more and more excited by the second. Students were all around her, and seemed just as excited. They were casually chatting, glaring over each others phones, and multiple teachers were gathering everyone together. Yet she felt a little alone without Brianna or Dawn by her side.
And she certainly couldn't forget about Drew. Yeah, she was starting to appreciate him. She wouldn't like to admit it, but she started to enjoy having him around; although he pestered her pretty often. He had made her feel a certain way, which she couldn't really explain or comprehend.
Curious, she glared around, hoping to see a certain greenhaired student; but he was nowhere to be found. Her lips curled into a frown. It had been a while since she had spoken lastly to Drew, which was before the weekend. When she had hugged him and played card games with him.
She mere memory of those memories made her, once again, nervous in the stomach. Shaking her head, trying to brush the thoughts off, she shoved her phone into her bag. The busses had already been parked in front of the school, yet she wasn't sure in which bus she'd get to sit.
'Class H2C, please come and gather around here!'
May's head turned around to a teacher who stood right before the parking lot, waving at the students. She was from class H2C, so she walked over to the teacher. She gave him a friendly smile as she turned around, hoping to see Drew. The more students from her class gathered around, the less confident she got. Where was he?
She shrugged, as, eventually, the teacher led her class to the bus. She really wanted to sit in the back; she tended to get nervous easily when people were sitting behind her. So she hurried over to the back and chose a cozy spot behind the window, which was partly hidden by a curtain.
The bus started to fill with students, making it more crowded and noisy. A little uncertain, she grabbed her phone to text Brianna.
'Brianna, I forgot to ask.. is it gonna be extremely noisy during the entire ride? I've only been in here for a minute and my ears are starting to hurt.'
sent, 9:55
Brianna immediately replied.
'Oh, no, don't worry! I'm pretty sure everyone will have calmed down a little within a minute or 15. Also, the teachers make sure it's not too noisy!'

May once again breathed in relief. She reached for her bag, pulling her headphones out. It had been a minute, and she was sure they were leaving soon. She hadn't seen Drew yet, and couldn't spot him in the bus, either. She perked up when via a speaker a teacher could be heard.
'Role call! I'll be calling everyone's names to make sure everyone's here! Please say yes when your name is mentioned!' the chatter quieted down as the teacher began calling names. A bunch of unfamiliar names rung throughout the bus, but she paused when she heard Drew being called. But, unfortunately, no response. The teacher looked slightly confused before he continued naming names.
May had said yes when her name had been called out, but she still was worrying a bit about Drew. He wasn't going to miss the trip, was he? Trying to relax, May put her headphones on and began listening to some music she could play from her phone. Her headphones managed to mute most of the noise around her.
She perked up when she could hear everything getting louder. She pulled her headphones off, hung it around her neck, and curiously glared over the chairs. There, in front of the bus, she could see a panting Drew. So he was late! May could only hear girls giggling and squealing over his appearance.
May blinked. Yeah, those girls were as excited as ever; they'd be able to sit next to the infamous Drew Hayden, the guy that everyone seemed to like and appreciate. Even the teachers appeared slightly intimidated by him: which wasn't so weird to think, he was a rich guy. He probably had enough might.
Drew made an apologizing looking like motion before he stepped through the middle of the bus, immediately caught off guard by all the girls catcalling at him. He looked uneasy, almost uncomfortable, before he continued walking. Before she knew it Drew was standing before the back seats.
His bangs slightly covered his eyes, though she could see his eyes pleading. 'Can I sit here, please?' He murmured, still appearing uncomfortable. 'Uh..oh! Yeah, of course! I was already getting a little worried you wouldn't come,' May admitted, dragging her bag off of the chair so Drew could sit down.
Drew casually sat down, his eyes barely showing emotion. 'Yeah. Sorry. Something was holding me back.. back at home.' Drew exclaimed quietly. May couldn't help but noticed he looked.. well, depressed. Eyebags could be seen beneath his eyes, he had appeared as if he had barely slept.
'Drew .. are you okay? You look really tired,' May inquired, placing a hand on Drew's shoulder. Drew nodded. 'Yeah. I'm good, I'm fine. I'm just a bit worn out because I was late and had to run,' Drew answered, dropping his bags beside him. May nodded. 'Okay. If there's anything going on I'm listening, kay?'
Drew nodded, closing his eyes and leaning back into the chair. 'Yeah, thanks, May. Thank you for letting me sit next to you, I wouldn't want to sit next to fangirls again because-' 'Because they'll hang all over you,' May finished the sentence smartly, her eyelids slightly sinking. 'I understand!' Drew looked surprised before he smiled.
May slid her headphones back on her head and continued listening to music. The bus started driving, as, luckily, Drew managed to step in on time. She absentmindedly glared out the window, watching streets and landscapes flash by. She already felt excited as ever.
May had almost fallen asleep before she felt something hit her shoulder. Snapping back to reality, she turned her head to look at her left shoulder. And all she could see was green hair; Drew had rested his head on her shoulder! May felt her cheeks turn red as her heartbeat fastened. Was he asleep?
Slowly glaring over Drew's face, his eyes were closed, making the bags beneath his eyes easier to see. Was he really that tired that he'd just fall asleep on her shoulder like that? She quietly started stuttering to herself, remotely embarrassed because Drew was resting on her shoulder in a bus with the rest of her classmates who were pretty much obsessed with Drew.
Except.. she didn't dislike the feeling. His hair slightly ticked her neck, causing for May to quietly stifle a laugh, glaring at his sleeping face. She was not exactly happy to admit it, but he looked pretty cute just sleeping on her shoulder. He almost looked vulnerable, and calm unlike the times he would endlessly tease her and make her feel miserable about herself.
She curled her lip into a smile as she ruffled Drew's soft hair. Drew shifted in his place a little, though it didn't appear that he was waking up. May blushed with the feeling of her fingers running through Drew's hair; it was soothing and comforting. She first thought his hair was rough and spiky, but if anything it was pretty soft and fluffy to the touch.
Realizing what she was doing, and what thoughts ran through her mind, she immediately spun her head back to the window and acted as if she hadn't noticed Drew leaning against her. He must've been absolutely exhausted, or else he wouldn't have just fallen on her shoulder. Was it really just the running that had made him so tired?
She resumed listening to music before, once again, Drew shifted. May pulled her headphones off once more, taking one more look at Drew. Except this time he looked .. well, scared, upset. 'Mom... sorry...' He whispered, his bangs hanging over his eyes. It was almost tough to hear that exactly he said next, but it appeared as if he meant to say 'I didn't mean to..'
At this point May was purely convinced that Drew was having a nightmare. The way that he uncomfortably shifted in the moment, how his fist was almost clenched and how his figure shivered every so often, May could guess what he was dreaming wasn't the best thing.
May furrowed her eyebrows and gently started shaking Drew's shoulders, trying to wake him up. 'Drew, Drew... wake up...'
Drew saw memories flash by. He couldn't help but cry, he didn't want this to happen. He didn't mean to disappoint his parents at all, he didn't mean to be the troublemaker in the family; he cared, he really did! Why did his parents refuse to see that?
'Drew, wake up!'
His eyes flashed open and he immediately pulled himself up, his heart almost jumping out of his chest. He nervously breathed whilst looking at his feet— except he couldn't say anything. 'Drew.. you're breathing so heavily, are you OK?'
He heard it. He heard the voice. As if he had healed he immediately pulled his head up again, turning it to the other side. There was May, before him, gazing into his eyes with worry flashing through hers. 'You shifted so uncomfortably in your sleep, I got worried.. are you OK?' She asked again, brushing his shoulder. Drew looked at her.
He took a deep breath, processing all that had happened and nodded. 'I'm good ... just had a nightmare.' He whispered in response, glaring down at Mays legs. May once again shot him a worried glare. 'If you don't mind me asking ... what did you dream about?' She mumbled beneath her breath, her eyes pleading. 'It's.. it was my mom,' he answered.
'Last night my mother and dad arrived. They apparently were furious about the fact that I had made a mess of the house and kept me up all night having to clean it.' He admitted. His voice slightly shook, sending shivers down Mays spine - so this was the way how Drew's parents treated him? A frown reappeared on Mays face. 'Oh, Drew. I'm so sorry to hear that.'
'So that's why you fell asleep on my shoulder. Did you get no sleep at all?' She whispered. Drew hesitated before answering. 'I did get sleep, but barely anything. I'd only manage to sleep the last two hours when I was done cleaning.' He replied. 'This is why I wasn't so keen on my parents returning.' he sighed. 'But it's so weird, I should love my parents. They're mine, after all.'
May shook her head. 'No, you don't.' She protested as Drew looked up at her in surprise. 'Your parents barely took care of you. They weren't there for you when they were supposed to,' May explained, slightly leaning over Drew's shoulder, examining the bags beneath his eyes. 'You don't need to love them if they refuse to love you, Drew. If anything you'd be wasting your time..' May added.
Drew blinked. 'I don't know.. is that really the only thing to do?' He inquired, his eyes shifting back up to the chairs in front of him. 'No,' May retorted. 'You can love your parents. But if you do, I'm sure it won't do you much good. You'll give them love and appreciation, while, in return you don't receive much.' May advised.
Drew nodded. 'Okay.' He whispered, his eyelids slightly sinking. 'You know what, Drew? We'll make this a good camp to remember, let's use these few days to get our mind off of all that has happened.' She encouraged him, making a soft smile re-appear on his face. 'You're right. Thanks,' He said, yawning after.
May giggled. 'How about you close your eyes and rest for a little longer? Knowing you've barely slept it's not good for you to keep yourself awake,' May exclaimed. 'If it helps, you can wear on my headphones. It's tough falling asleep in such noise, I don't know how you managed before.' May snickered, sliding her headphones on Drew's ears.
Drew wasn't sure of what to say in response, so he just smiled at her. And if May understood, May smiled back at him, eventually turning her head back to the window.
Drew had once again fallen asleep, except this time he appeared a lot more peaceful. His head again remained on Mays shoulder, and his eyes were shut. May sighed quietly as landscapes kept flashing by. most students in the bus had gotten a lot more quiet, giving Drew a good opportunity to sleep in.
May had been looked at by the girls in front of her; not just that, they looked awfully jealous as well. But May couldn't really care less about how they felt, Drew needed rest, and he just so happened to let his head fall on her shoulder when he drifted off into his dreams. Even though May had gotten used to Drew laying against her, she was still nervous and slightly embarrassed.
After a minute or 10 struck by the bus came to a stop, and most students stood up to grab their bags and walk out. May gently shook Drew again, hoping to wake him up gently. 'Drew, wake up, we're here.' May whispered, as Drew slowly opened his eyes, gazing right into hers. 'May?..' He mumbled, still appearing sleepy and unwary.
May didn't respond, and kept looking at him. 'Your eyes... they're pretty..' Drew whispered, making May go red in the face. 'Wh-whaat?' May spluttered, lifting her hands up to her mouth. Drew's eyes widened as he snapped back to reality. 'Uhm.. good morning, May,' he exclaimed, as if he hadn't heard what he had muttered.
May opened her mouth to speak, her cheeks still as red as a volcano. 'U-Uhm! We're here,' May stuttered, pulling herself up. She swung her backpack on her back and quickly walked out like a robot, appearing flustered. Drew furrowed his eyebrows as he swung his backpack over his shoulder too and followed May. 'You look flustered, is there something wrong?' Drew commented, glaring over her shoulder curiously.
'N-No! I'm good! How'd you sleep!' May said quickly, barely understandable. Drew shoved his hands into the pockets of his jeans before he smirked. 'I slept just great. Those headphones of yours really helped block out all the annoying squealing of the girls who were probably obsessing over me,' he said sassily.
May cocked her eyebrow. 'You really think you're the coolest guy out there, don't you?' May spat, obviously slightly ticked off by his proud attitude. 'Yeah,' Drew snickered, running his fingers through his hair. May let out a pout, following the group of students in front of them. 'I can't wait to see Brianna!' May snickered happily.
May still hadn't seen Brianna, they were now being shown around in the camp building they were staying at. It was surrounded by trees, and an open field as well. May already felt home, as she was reminded of the times she used to go to the forest with her parents and max back when they were little.
She happily marched throughout the building. 'I wonder who are gonna be my room mates!' May beamed, turning her head towards Drew who was dryly following suit. He didn't react, he just glared forward and kept on walking.
they eventually returned to the main room where they were sat down. 'All right everyone, welcome to this years camp! We hope that everyone wil have a great time,' A woman, supposedly a teacher, called out. 'Before starting with any activities you'll be allowed to rest after the long bus trip.'
All the students immediately started cheering. 'But before you can rest, we've got to show you the layout for all the rooms!'
May had ended up in a room with girls she wasn't necessarily familiar with; well, girls she hadn't really ever talked to. It was kind of awkward, because originally she had hoped she would end up in the same room with Misty, someone she had hung out a lot more during class.
She huffed, sitting on the top of the bunk bed she had chosen. The girls around her were happily chatting, barely caring about Mays presence. It kind of made her feel awkward.
Suddenly, one of the teachers stepped in. 'Hi girls,' she chirped, as all the attention had been switched towards the teacher. 'Due to a certain inconvenience two other students will be placed in this room, too, considering there's still beds left to be slept in,' The woman announced. The girls nodded, appearing excited at the news.
First a brown haired girl stepped in, who immediately looked glad to be in the same room as the other girls; May could guess they were all friends. But secondly the very guy stepped in she didn't expect to see. It was Drew! He had a casual look at his face, but smirked when he saw May.
The girls in the room immediately gasped and started happily squealing, happy that one of the most popular boys would be staying in their room. May had Drew had been getting along, so May wasn't necessarily angry or anything. But she did know that, with Drew in the same room with a ton of other girls, no quiet times could be guaranteed.
