After a long day of activities and exercises it was time for everyone to eat together. Though everyone seemed exhausted after strolling through the forest playing plenty of games, all the students were happily chatting, waiting for their dinner to be ready.
A bunch of teachers were running around the dining room, picking up tableware and food, and so May felt hunger growling in her stomach. Drew was sitting in front of her, very often giving her glares; she couldn't figure why exactly, though. May childishly grinned at Drew as he sighed, picking up the awkward moment with everyone chatting and them just being quiet.
Every so often Drew would be bothered by the girl sitting beside him. Drew would shoot May disgusted glares then, but May wasn't exactly keen on helping him out. Instead she furrowed her eyebrows at him and grinned, as if enjoying seeing him having a not-so-great time.
Before she knew it the cook had placed all the foods on the table and everyone could pick up some food, as well as deserts for after. May went with some simple pasta and yoghurt for desert, and Drew had picked rice with meatballs. For some reason he hadn't grabbed any desert, either. May blinked at him.
Soon May started digging in, and she could see Drew snicker at her way of eating. 'You still eat like that, don't you?' Drew commented, calmly stabbing his fork into a meatball. May swallowed her food before answering. 'I do! And what's your problem with that?' May hissed angrily, furrowing her eyebrow. Drew gave a careless shrug. 'You'll make a mess,' Drew answered. 'I won't.' May retorted.
'I'd love to believe that..' Drew huffed. 'Except a bit of pasta fell off of your spoon like a minute ago,' Drew laughed, as May went red in the face. She immediately glared down at her lap, only to see a bit of pasta on her leg. Squealing, she grabbed it and tossed it back on her plate. 'What'd I say again?' Drew said proudly.
May sighed deeply. Was his tormenting ever going to stop? 'How about you continue eating your food, mr-i'm-so-awesome-and-know-everything?' May spat in annoyance, letting her head sink slightly. Drew just smirked before he continued eating. May couldn't help but notice he ate with such good manners; which would make sense considering he's a rich guy and has parents which complain about all he does.
'Drew,' May said, grabbing Drew's attention. Drew looked up curiously, tilting his head slightly. 'Hm?' He hummed, pausing before stabbing his fork into another meatball. 'Your parents aren't here, Drew.' May murmured. 'You can relax, eat the way you want to.' She said, closing her eyes as she stuffed another spoon with pasta into her mouth.
Drew looked baffled. 'Eat the way I want to? What do you mean?' He asked, cocking his eyebrow at the brunette that was sitting in front of him, still devouring her food. 'you don't have to eat so nicely, your parents aren't here... live it up while you still can, Drew.' May advised him as she continued eating.
Drew hesitated before nodding. 'Oookay,' he mumbled, uncertain, before he continued eating. May was right, his parents weren't here and he didn't have to worry about making a mess at all..
May angrily stuffed her face into the pillow; she wanted some sleep! But ever since Drew had switched over to her room, all the girls were constantly talking to him and squealing over his presence. She could forget about closing just an eye.
Now the girls were squealing over the fact that Drew had taken off his shirt to change into his pyjamas. Which, May wondered, wasn't he allowed to change in a different room considering he was just in a room full with girls?
May found it a tad bit weird how he was just okay with dressing in the room. Though May wouldn't like to admit it, she did feel a bit pressured to turn around and look at him. Was it perhaps a feeling of jealousy just getting her worked up?
Her eyes fluttered shut as the constant talking of the girls rung through her ears; she hadn't even heard Drew talk much, except for saying a 'yeah,' or 'mhm'. It was pretty obvious that he wasn't necessarily enjoying the attention, either. But she couldn't say anything, the girls would surely tell her to shut up.
It had become slightly obvious that the girl in her room disliked her; which was perhaps because she rarely joined in conversations, and was a bit more of an outcast — and, most importantly, because Drew had been hanging around her a lot during the past few weeks, which hadn't gone unnoticed. The 'Drew falling asleep on Mays shoulder' scenario hadn't either.
But May could barely do a thing anyways. Sighing to herself, she once again shifted in her bed, triggered by the constant talking. As if Drew had picked up her nervousness, he spoke up. 'Girls.. how about we just go sleep now, hm?' He suggested, a bit of uncertainty in his voice that May managed to pick up. 'I can guess we've got plenty of activities tomorrow...'
A collective murmur of the girls agreeing could be heard as they stepped into bed. May turned around, giving Drew a look. He was looking at her, eyebags beneath his eyes. May smiled at him, thankful he had quieted the girls, and he had shot a smile back before crawling back into his bed. The way Drew was acting now made her feel a certain way; a way she hadn't felt before.
It's like he genuinely began to care, and didn't just follow her around to pester her and make fun of her antics. She turned around again and happily sighed to herself, tightly wrapping her soft blankets around her body before shutting her eyes again and drifting off to sleep.
May rubbed her eyes; she had woken up quite a few times, and she was able to figure out it wasn't morning yet. She hesitated before climbing out of her bed, sliding on her flip-flops and tip-toeing out of the room, not wanting to wake anyone up.
She longed for some fresh air, as she felt a little breathless inside the warm room they were staying it. Stumbling throughout the building, she managed to get out and felt relieved when a cold breeze brushed against her shoulders. Luckily the teachers had allowed for students to sit in the front garden, even when it was dark outside still.
She cupped the side of her head, keeping her hair in the same place. She gazed up to the sky, counting huge amounts of stars; as well as the moon who brightly shone above the large garden. She felt tranquility refill her mind as she enjoyed the wind running past her skin. Suddenly, she felt a hand on her shoulder.
Can't sleep?'
In a whip May had turned around. And, yes, just like she had guessed; there was Drew, his hand burrowed in his pocket May sighed deeply before nodding. 'Yeah.. can't sleep,' she murmured, turning back around and glaring at the moon again. 'I can't, either. I was curious when I saw you going out, actually.' Drew whispered.
May just chuckled. 'So you followed me? You like being around me, don't you?' May snickered, her eyes fluttering shut before a breeze ran past again. Drew was quiet before he snickered. 'In your dreams...' he chuckled, though his voice slightly shook with uncertainty. May had picked it up but didn't decide to question it.
'Ready for the next activities tomorrow?' Drew questioned. May gave a nod. 'Yeah. But, uhm, Drew.. aren't you cold?' May whispered, glaring at the shirtless Drew who was carelessly scratching his back. 'Neh.. I've learnt to deal with it,' Drew answered, red tinting his cheeks. 'Really? OK,' she murmured back in surprise, barely able to keep her eyes off of him.
Embarrassed, May glared back into the distance. Drew curiously gazed over her shoulders. 'And aren't you cold? I see you shivering every so often.' He stated, digging his hands into the pockets of his shorts. May, not wanting to appear more vulnerable than him, indignantly shook her head. 'No way! I'm not cold!' May screeched, but paused when once again a cold breeze passed by, making her shiver.
'You're lying.' Drew snickered back, amusement glistening in his eyes. 'I'm not!' May hissed, her voice slightly shaking. 'You are,' Drew repeated smugly, making the anger in Mays stomach rise. 'I'm not-'
And suddenly, she was grabbed into a hug. Her head was pressed right into his soft skin — she was able to hear his heart beat. Though it was regulated, she could feel his heartbeat slightly fastening. Mays cheeks reddened as she started mumbling incoherent sentences, trying to make sense of his action. Drew grinned into her hair. 'You're definitely freezing.'
May pushed herself out of his hug, her cheeks red. 'No! I'm not! I'm doing just fine!' She yelled, her cheeks still red. Drew pressed his finger against Mays lips. 'Do you want to wake everyone up?' He snarled, his eyes narrowing. 'Quiet down a little, gee...' he groaned, making May even more embarrassed. She shut her eyes.
'How about we just head inside and sleep?' Drew sighed. May hesitated before nodding, eventually following Drew back into the building. The entire walk back none of the two had said anything, probably embarrassed because of the previous situation.
May whispered Drew a goodnight, as he just grinned back at her. The two slid into bed, excited for the next activities that were to come.
