May grumpily rubbed her eyes, allowing her gaze to meet the sun that was beating across the rooms floor. The girls were quietly chatting, but Drew couldn't be heard.
Yawning from the fact that she had just awoken, she pulled herself up and glared down at the girls from the top bunk bed. They were wrapped around in their blankets. Even though it was morning, it hadn't appeared like any activities were about to start. May curiously peeked over the bed, her gaze eventually rolling towards Drew's bed.
May went red in the face when she had realized he was staring back at her, a hint of amusement in his eyes. She couldn't help but remember the situation that had occurred to the two the same night; he had awkwardly pulled her into a hug while he was shirtless. But to Mays embarrassment, she didn't hate it.
She awkwardly shot him a smile back, trying not to appear too flustered. The door then opened, and a teacher stepped in. 'Good morning, all of you! Please get all dressed up, the next activities will be announced soon,' The teacher noted. The girls reluctantly agreed and soon hopped out of their beds.
May drowsily watched the girls change. Drew had stepped out for his own sake of privacy, and those of the girls, which she greatly understood. She wasn't even sure how he felt comfortable sharing the room with a lot of other girls. Pulling a brown skirt on, a white shirt and a brown jacket, she looked like she was all ready to go outside.
The group of girls had left the room already, and May was still in, fixing her hair and wrapping a thin, autumn leaf patterned scarf around her neck. Even though the weather from the previous night was nice, it had gotten slightly colder. Suddenly one knocked on the door, taking May by surprise. She immediately turned around, cocking her eyebrows. 'Come in?' She muttered uncertain.
Drew opened the door, and peeked through te opening before stepping in. He dug his hands in his pockets, but he looked slightly amazed. 'Errr... ready, princess?' He exclaimed, inviting his hand towards the brunette. May felt her cheeks redden at the nickname and waited before following Drew out of the room without saying anything. 'You.. look pretty,' Drew whispered.
Mays head perked up. 'What'd you say?' She said in confusion, her cheeks red. 'I said you look shitty..' Drew corrected himself, blush staining his cheeks before he took a sprint to the class that was waiting for the activity announcement to be made. May giggled to herself before sitting down next to a girl.
Suddenly a 'quiet, everyone!' ran throughout the building, and the chatter immediately went mute. It was the teacher, ready to announce the activity plans for that night. 'today we'll have a good variety of small minigames that you'll all be doing, but as soon as it's afternoon you'll all be going on a treasure hunt along with other classes!' The teacher announced.
May felt excitement run through her body as she excitedly kicked her feet, ready for the activities of the day!
After a good amount of mini-games the class had gotten time to rest; time to rest and time to prepare for the treasure hunt. What exactly they would be doing during the treasure hunt? No idea. Though what exactly they'd be searching for during the hunt was vague, most of the students appeared excited.
'So what'll we do during the treasure hunt?' May mumbled to herself, not meaning to get a response. 'They'll probably give us a boring list with items to search around in the forest,' Someone behind her replied — and she was immediately able to guess who the very person was. Drew. 'They do that every year.' Drew continued.
May, slightly baffled by his sudden answer, turned around to look at him. 'They do?' She murmured to herself. She couldn't help but pick up the annoyed tone in his voice. 'You sound like that's the worst thing imaginable, Drew. Honestly, it sounds fun!' May giggled. 'Then you're the only one,' Drew replied dryly. 'It's the same every year...'
May blinked at him. 'And so what? Doesn't mean you can't enjoy it,' May protested, a smile still on her face. 'Let's make this a treasure hunt to enjoy, Drew,' she suggested, twirling around. Drew just let out an exaggerated sigh, glaring the other way. 'Sure, June.. if you say so..' He huffed.
'All right, everyone! Please quiet down, the groups of the treasure hunt will be named up!' One of the mentors yelled, before looking down on their paper list he had in his hands. 'You will be mixed with students from other classes! This'll give you plenty of good moments to get to talk to new people!' he announced. 'okay, so for the groups!'
After a tiring few minutes of hearing names, she still hadn't heard hers or that of Drew. There sure were a lot of students that would be entering the hunt, because the teacher had been ranting on for a minute and a half.
May widened her eyes upon hearing her name. 'And the last group will be Drew Hayden, May Maple and Harley!'
So Drew and Harley, huh? Harley was the purple haired guy he had bumped into earlier, right? pressing her finger to her chin she debated the chance of him being in her group. But she couldn't really mind at all if he was, when she first met him in the halls he looked pretty nice.
Drew however felt anger rise in his chest, causing for his eyes to narrow. He had heard plenty of stories about Harley before, mainly how he wasn't the nicest person. He even had a decent amount of interactions with the boy himself, and he could clearly remember they did not go well. Most recent was in the hallway when Drew suspected that Harley purposely hoped for May to be late to her class.
And before. Harley had come up to him and had started bragging about the fact that there was apparently a girl in school who wouldn't fall for his charms — which Drew couldn't care any less about. If anything, he could enjoy living with the fact not everyone had to swirl around him like sick puppies.
'So we're in the same group with Harley! That'll be fun,' May grinned. 'Do you know who Harley is, Drew? You've seen him before, right? The guy who—' 'The guy who you bumped to in the hallways before you were almost late to class and refused to let you go. Yeah. him,' He said bitterly, leaving May puzzled. 'Yeah... him,' May agreed, uncertain of his sarcastic reaction.
With a glint of suspicion in his eyes he followed May outside. 'We had to gather at the large tree, right?' May muttered. Drew simply nodded, pointing his finger in the direction of the tree. 'Good thinking, dog ears.' He snickered. Caught off guard by the nickname, twirled around and angrily looked at him. 'Don't call me that!' She hissed, her cheeks red.
Drew just cocked his eyebrows, a grin visible on his lips. 'Ah, my bad! Sorry, June.' Drew commented, nearing his face towards hers. Even though May was too embarrassed to do so, she leaned in closer to Drew as well. With her cheeks a light red, she let out a quiet growl.
'Ahw! Look at the two, they're about to kiss!' A voice could be heard from aside the two. May spun around, just to see Harley, with his hand on his waist. A glint of amusement could be detected in his eyes as Mays cheeks went red. 'W-Whaat! No!' She panicked, immediately distancing herself from Drew. Drew however did not reply.
'Sure.. you guys are sweethearts, are you sure you haven't got an eye for each-other?' Harley whispered, though mischief and hatred could be seen in his eyes. 'We don't like each other! No, not at all!' May screeched in embarrassment, still no reacting coming out of Drew. The silence of the green boy seemed to tick off Harley. 'Heh... right..' He grinned. 'Anyhow honey, we're in the same team!'
May smiled at him, though still embarrassed. 'Yeah! Exciting, right? What're we supposed to do anyway?' May questioned, searching for answers. Harley tilted his head, a smile tugging his lips. 'We've got to search for items around in the forest, easy peasy,' Harley answered, placing a hand back on his waist. 'Oh? Just searching for items? All right—'
'Not just that! The first team that has gathered all the items doesn't need to participate in cleaning activities,' Harley grinned, clasping his hands together. 'No cleaning activities? That sounds like heaven!' May giggled, clasping her hands over his. 'So true!' Harley chimed in. Drew however still hadn't said anything. He had crossed his arms and a cold stare passed his eyes.
'Drew honey, why aren't ya saying anything?' He asked, snapping Drew out of his absence. 'Because I've got nothing important to say,' Drew answered, his eyes slightly narrowed. Harley just pouted. 'Whatever, green hair.'
With a list of items in hand, the three had gone out to search for the ones needed. 'Okay, what do we have to search?' Harley asked, curiously peeking over May's shoulder. May looked at the list before answering. 'Goldenrod,' May answered, her eyes narrowing at the paper.
Harley frowned. 'Goldenrod? What's that?' He asked in confusion, snatching the paper out of her hands. May deadpanned. 'It's a plant. It has like, yellow flowers on it... does it even grow here, though?' May asked, placing her hands on her waist. 'It would, or else they wouldn't send us after it,' Drew answered, sounding as sarcastic as ever.
'Good point.' May mumbled. 'Well, we better go and search for it, right?' May suggested, pointing into a random direction to go search for the plant. 'Good idea!' Harley cheered, happily following May into the forest while Drew just gave a quiet nod, not really willing to say anything else.
After a while of searching around the three had cleared out most of the items on the list. May had grown a little tired after the amount of walking, Harley however was still happily bouncing on and about. 'Our last item is simply a mushroom. Finding one shouldn't be complicated,' Harley muttered. 'I know! How about we split up and search for it?'
May nodded. 'Sure! We'll be done faster.. and we'll totally have that one in the pocket! And we can forget having to wash the dishes!' May cheered in excitement, pumping her fists. Though Drew didn't seem like he found the idea good in the slightest, eventually he nodded. 'All right.' he agreed.
'You'll.. head on that way, May! I'll go this way, and... Drew can go that way.' Harley suggested, sassily swinging the paper behind his back. Drew gave a hesitant nod. 'So we meet up here when we've found it?' May smiled. 'Yeah!'
With a reassuring smile the three went into their own directions. Harley, when turned around, a grin reappeared on his face. This was Harley's very chance to get May lost! And if she was lost, she'd surely be punished in some type of way for being back too late, and walking around the forest all on her own.. clasping his hands, he snickered to himself.
Drew on the other hand was feeling uncertain. Ever since the first moment he had looked Harley in his eyes he had the feeling he was up to something, as if he had a plan to make whatever go worse. Crossing his arms, possible possibilities passed his mind, and he'd do anything to avoid it.
May was happily marching through the forest, her gaze rolling across the clearing. Though there weren't so much leaves as she'd expected, she couldn't see any mushrooms grow out of the ground. Instead she felt like the direction she was walking in made the forest seem darker by each step that she took.
Though because of the switching to autumn, the sinking sun would arrive earlier than during the summers. May reassured herself and told herself that it was just the sun starting to set, that was the way how it went now. With high hopes, she kept on marching.
Drew sighed to himself, a mushroom in his hands. He very much simply had managed to find one for himself, but he hadn't seen May at all. The forest wasn't particularly large, so much that he'd bumped into Harley while searching plenty of times. Where did she go?
Drew felt himself getting more and more suspicious of Harley by the second. He had been in a very happy mood while searching, so much that it appeared pretty... well, creepy. Yes, Drew had made up his mind, he would go out and search for May. With his mushroom in his hands, he began searching for the brunette.
May got more and more worried. Where was she? Did she take the wrong route? She impatiently tapped her finger at the list of items as she kept strolling through the endless trees towering above her, hoping to find a mushroom; or better yet, to head back to the meeting spot. Who knows, perhaps Drew of Harley already found a mushroom.
Sighing, and with her stomach growling for hunger, she attempted searching her way back, but just couldn't find the familiar part of the forest she had been in before. Was the forest really this big? Was she lost? Quietly walking through the forest that was now scary, but previously had been airy and nice, she started to get convinced she had gotten herself into a rough spot. Suddenly, a voice snapped her out of her worries.
'May!'
It was Drew's voice, filled with worry, but at the same time a hint of anger. May turned around to see Drew run into her direction. 'May! There you are!' He breathed, coming to a stop before the brunette as he caught some more breath. May swallowed. 'Drew! You found me! I.. I think I got lost,' May grinned childishly, ashamed, scratching her neck. 'That's because you did.. you didn't return so I came searching for you—'
'Did— did you find a mushroom?' May immediately asked, cutting Drew off. Drew blinked in surprise before he answered. 'I did. But that's hardly important. You've gotten yourself lost, and we've got to find our way back.' Drew told her. 'Wait! You're saying you don't know the way back?' May whined.
Drew clenched his teeth. 'I don't! I just ran into a random direction to look for you!' He sighed, grabbing her by the hand and tugging her through the forest. 'Were you worried about me?' May asked suddenly, and Drew went slightly red in the face. 'No, what're you talking about.. everyone needs to head back, who knows, maybe if we didn't head back as a group we couldn't win!'
May let out an irritated sigh. 'Let's head back..' Drew mumbled, his cheeks still red by the holding hands and the comment of May. After a second or two May yawned, rubbing her eyes, causing for Drew to pause and look back at May. 'Are you tired?' He asked, picking up her heavy eyes and constant yawning. May simply nodded her head back at Drew, and Drew in response let out a pout.
'Sigh, all right.. hop on my back. You rest a bit,' he offered. May hesitated before doing anything, but she then happily accepted the offer with a cheeky smile and an excited nodding of her head, jumping on Drew's back. Drew felt his heart pound faster when she had wrapped her arms around his neck.
'Thanks, Drew.. you're awesome..' She yawned into his neck, only making Drew more flustered. 'T-Thanks..' he sputtered, clenching his fists in embarrassment, continuing the stroll back.
The two eventually had returned the back, and to their surprise they hadn't gotten any punishment — Which eventually drew Harley insane. He was so certain his plan would work out, but turned out it wouldn't.
he had to think of something. He had to think of something to get May into an even nastier situation.
yes, there are multiple references in here, don't point them out unless you're desperate like me. woot!
