Shattered from their fleeting astonishment, the Spartans swiftly transitioned into action. Kelly and Noble 6 hastened to check on Linda, her impact lingering in the air like an ominous echo. Meanwhile, Fred, fueled by a menacing resolve, marched purposefully toward the ramp, intent on grounding Zane into pulp. His steps, a silent declaration of impending retribution, were abruptly halted as Palmer's arm barred his way and the Chief's hand firmly gripped his shoulder. The air crackled with the unspoken tension of conflicting emotions, as the Spartans grappled with the need for revenge and the demand for strategic restraint in the face of a formidable adversary.
"Ilsa, it appears your delusions are as grand as ever, reminiscent of your audacious attempt to seize the Infinity. Now clad in Mjolnir armor, you're undoubtedly a formidable opponent. However, I'm not the same person you encountered on the Infinity. If you're eager for a rematch, I'm more than willing to prove, beyond any doubt, who the superior warrior is. Let's settle this once and for all."
Palmer rose to her full height, deactivating her armor with a deliberate flair. Extending one hand, she beckoned Zane with a confident 'come hither' gesture, the ambient light from the air strip outlining her physique through the bio-suit. Tension hung in the air as she prepared for the impending combat.
Zane was rocked by the revelation, a potent mix of shock and fury coursing through her veins. The smooth retraction of Palmer's armor, coupled with the realization that Palmer stood a head taller than her, sent a surge of rage mingled with her insanity. It seemed Palmer was treating the upcoming clash with nonchalance, dismissing Zane. The audacity fueled the flames of Zane's anger, unwilling to endure disrespect for a second time.
"You dare to dismiss me, Palmer? You won't live to regret underestimating me for a second time!" Zane spat out, her eyes narrowing with a deadly intent. "Now, it's time for you to pay for your arrogance!"
The moon hung low in the night sky as Sarah Palmer and Ilsa Zane faced each other. With a sudden battle cry, Ilsa Zane charged at Palmer, her armored fists clenched and determination etched across her face. Palmer, a seasoned Spartan, allowed her body to remain relaxed as she braced herself for the incoming assault. As Zane closed the distance, Palmer expertly sidestepped her initial attack at the last possible moment, causing Ilsa's punch to miss her face by a hair's breath. Palmer then countered by delivering a hammer fist strike to Zane's back adding to her momentum causing the insurrectionist leader to stumble. Zane, undeterred, regained her balance and spun around with remarkable agility, once again closing the gap with amazing speed, attempting to land a series of quick jabs. Palmer deftly blocked and parried the strikes with one hand, her reflexes enhanced by the Librarian and honed through countless hours of training as well as numerous battles.
The airfield became a battleground of swift movements and powerful strikes. Zane, fueled by adrenaline, unleashed a flurry of acrobatic kicks and punches, her combat style a mix of brawler and Karate. Palmer, danced effortlessly around and through her opponents barrage with the calculated precision of a Shaolin grand master, seeking and exploiting openings in Zane's relentless assault with lighting fast counter strikes.
The clash of fists resonated through the air, each strike sending shockwaves echoing across the airfield. Zane, growing increasingly frustrated with her inability to land a solid strike on her foe, performed a spinning kick that caught Palmer off guard forcing her to throw up both arms to block the attack, momentarily staggering her. Seizing the opportunity, Zane followed up with a lightning-fast punch kick combination, driving Palmer back.
Palmer, recovered instantly and retaliated with a bone-crushing elbow strike that connected with Zane's incoming knee strike. The impact cracked the armor plat on Zane's thigh sending the leg back causing her to lean forward, positioning her perfectly to receive Palmers uppercut sending Zane skyward from the force. With a instinctive flip, Zane landed hard before regained her footing, jumping backward to create distance.
It was at this moment that the Master Chief, Noble 6 and the rest of Blue team arrived at the Longsword.
Zane glared at the new comers before her gaze settled on the Master Chief. "The Legendary Sierra 117. I think I will take special in breaking you. Tell me Chief are you a demon off the battlefield?" She stated with a suggestive wiggle of her eye brows.
Hearing this cause Palmer to have an almost imperceivable twitch at the corner of her right eye as she balled her fists. Ilsa Zane smirked at having rilled the Spartan Commander.
The moonlight illuminated their faces, revealing the intensity in their eyes. Zane, fueled by rage and a unquenchable thirst for victory, charged again, this time drawing a combat knife from the small of her back. Palmer, unyielding and composed, blocked Zane's strikes with well-timed parries, every strike with the knife was redirected and a slap was delivered to the mad woman's face further enraging her. Finally Zane lunged in with her knife trying to end the fight. Palmer, having anticipated this move countered by sidestepping while brining a powerful knee to Zane's abdomen sending her flying backwards landing face down in the mud.
"Stay Down Zane. You have no chance of victory." Palmer stated to her downed opponent.
Pushing herself into a kneeling position and wiping blood from the corner of her mouth, Ilsa looks at her hand and seeing the blood spits before looking up at her opponent with murderous rage in her eyes. "You think you can defeat me that easily. You are nothing! I will grind you under my boot and take great please in torturing you endlessly."
Zane rushed in trowing wild combinations trying to end the fight, Palmer, blocked or ducked each and ever blow as if knowing her opponent thoughts even before she did. At the end of the exchange Palmer executed a flawless Jump spinning hook kick that Zane quickly ducked under before Sarah finished with a Guyver kick that sent Ilsa sprawling to the ground. Palmer preformed a kick up from the ground as the airfield fell silent as Zane struggled to rise, her breath heavy and labored. Palmer stood over her, a mix of triumph and pity etched on her face.
"What was done to you was cruel and for that I'm sorry. This is where your insanity ends." Palmer stated before preforming a webster axe kick to the top of Zane's head knocking the insurrectionist unconscious. "You are beaten, Ilsa. We're taking you back to the UNSC to face the consequences of your choices,"
The battlefield, witness to the clash of titans, became a silent theater of judgment. Blue Team and Noble 6 stood dumbstruck at the display.
Zane, the cause of their capture, eluded their recognition and exploited their underestimation of her power. With minimal assistance from the Elites who bore witness, she had taken down the formidable Spartan team. Now, as Palmer had near effortlessly dealt with her, the astonishment on Blue Team's faces was palpable.
Linda's Mjolnir armor, the symbol of a Spartan's strength, had been worn by the enemy. Palmer, clad in nothing but her bio-suit, showcased a level of prowess leaving the elite Spartan team and Noble 6 in disbelief. The repercussions of underestimating the enemy echoed through the silent aftermath, and the gravity of the moment hung in the air.
Palmer reached down, her fingers closing like a vice around Zane's stolen armor chest-plate. She used her ability to manipulate gravity to make her unconscious opponent weigh next to nothing, before she effortlessly lifted the defeated woman over her shoulder with one hand, a singular act of dominance. The weight of the moment settled as Palmer marched up the ramp, each step echoing with the resolute purpose of securing Zane for transport to the UNSC.
The remaining Spartans could only look on in shock as they witnessed Palmer ascend the ramp. The Master Chief moved to follow her into the Longsword, feeling a hint of pride in her while also feeling the urgent need for their departure intensifying.
"What the heck just happened?" Kelly was the first to speak.
"I have no idea, but that was terrifying. Did you see the ease with which Palmer crushed Zane? It was like nothing I have ever seen before." Fred stated.
"Uh… What did I miss? I remember Ilsa Zane attacking me in the Longsword, then I wake up to see Palmer just pick her up like a pillow. Somebody fill me in," Linda demanded getting a hand up from Fred.
The remaining Spartans moved up the ramp, Fred helping Linda, as they heard the engines priming. They brought Linda up to speed on what transpired after her fight with Zane.
The airstrip exploded into activity following the Spartan fight and the priming of the Longswords engines. Humans and Covenant scrambled towards the captures vessel. Palmer from the pilots seat yelled back over her shoulder. "Chief, I think it's time for our little surprise."
The Chief nodded as he transitioned from firing his rifle at the approaching forces from the ramp to using his pistol in one hand and producing a remote detonator in the other. The world seemed to pause as the Chief depressed the trigger on the detonator. Then the hanger in the distance erupted violently setting off a chain reaction that caused many of the crafts on the airfield to be enveloped in fire.
The Longsword engines roared to life as the ship lifted off the airstrip and shot into the planet's atmosphere. The Insurrectionist/Covenant blockade was still in shambles, and The Chief skillfully maneuvered around them before jumping into slipspace, heading for Infinity.
The slipspace journey held unexpected twists for Noble 6 and the members of Blue Team. Once safely distanced from the recent battleground, all the Spartans gathered in the cargo hull of the Longsword. The Master Chief and Palmer took charge, unraveling the tale of everything that transpired since Infinity arrived at Requiem.
The narrative unfolded, revealing the Chief's encounter with Commander Lasky, Lieutenant Palmer, and the survivors of their scouting party. The destruction of the gravity well, their evolution by the Librarian, and the Chief's defiance of orders from then Captain Del Rio were laid bare. The dramatic turn of events led to Palmer and the Chief setting off to confront the Didact, while Infinity and Del Rio retreated to the Soul system.
As Palmer and the Chief reached the part where Cortana sacrificed herself to save them, a palpable silence gripped the cargo hull. The emotional toll on the two Spartans was evident, their expressions mirroring the weight of loss and sacrifice.
Palmer finished by telling the gathered Spartans of her heroic piloting when they arrived and how they had found the encampment where Blue Team was being held.
To break the solemn atmosphere, the Chief injected a moment of levity, not letting Palmer escape without a playful jab at her piloting skills. He teased how her landing would haunt his nightmares for the next few months. Much to Palmer's chagrin, she huffed in mock anger before retaliating with a punch to the Chief's shoulder. With a determined stride, she headed to the cockpit to check their status.
Blue Team seized the opportunity to stow their gear and assess their injuries, leaving the Master Chief alone with his younger brother, Noble 6. In that moment, both Spartans stood in a rare instance of uncertainty, the weight of unspoken words hanging in the air like a heavy fog.
The cargo hull of the Longsword provided a makeshift sanctuary for the Chief and Noble 6, the hum of the ship's engines a steady backdrop to the reunion between two brothers separated by years of uncertainty.
Noble 6, breaking the silence, met the Chief's gaze. "Chief, we need to talk about what happened back when we were kids. After you were taken for the Spartan II program, our family moved to a distant planet. It was supposed to be safe, away from the conflict. But the Covenant found us."
The Chief listened intently, his stoic demeanor softening with the revelation of their shared past. Noble 6 continued, his voice carrying the weight of the years they had spent apart. "Our parents didn't make it. The Covenant attack... they took them from us. I was put into foster care until I was nine, and that's when they recruited me for the Spartan III Program."
The Chief's eyes reflected a mixture of pain and understanding. The bond of brotherhood, thought lost, now rekindled in the dimly lit cargo hull. "I thought you were gone," the Chief admitted, a rare vulnerability in his voice.
Noble 6 nodded, the weight of unspoken years lifting. "I thought the same. But here we are."
The two Spartans, brothers, found themselves in a moment of shared understanding. The scars of their past, once buried in silence, now laid bare in the confines of the ship. The echoes of a lost childhood, the pain of separation, and the resilience that led them to the same path all converged in that quiet conversation.
As the Longsword continued its journey through the vastness of space, the Chief and Noble 6 leaned into the bond they thought they had lost forever, finding solace in the presence of the family they had both believed was gone. The past unfolded like a narrative of survival, battle, honor and duty.
The Longsword emerged from slipspace just within the Morad system, hurtling toward Morad 3, where the Infinity awaited their arrival. Palmer swiftly initiated the agreed-upon signal with Captain Lasky, a crucial step in coordinating their rendezvous.
As they neared Morad 3, the imposing silhouette of the Infinity gradually revealed itself, gracefully emerging from behind the celestial body. A few tense minutes passed, building anticipation as the two formidable vessels prepared to converge.
Captain Lasky's voice resonated through the Longsword's speakers, breaking the silence. "Fireteam Titan, this is Infinity Actual. We are en route to link up with you momentarily. You are cleared for landing in hangar bay 12." His authoritative words signaling the imminent reunion of their forces.
In the aftermath of the Longsword's thunderous touchdown in bay 12, Captain Lasky, accompanied by a determined contingent of Marines, awaited the Spartans at the foot of the ramp. The dramatic moment unfolded as Blue Team, Noble 6, the revered Master Chief, and Palmer descended the latter carrying Ilsa Zane like a sack of potato's.
As the group reached the bottom, a synchronized movement saw the Marines stepping forward, ready to apprehend Ilsa Zane. The air thickened with tension as Kelly joined Palmer and the Marines, creating an imposing escort that would take Zane to the confines of a holding cell. The solemn procession, bathed in the dim glow of the hangar, marked the beginning of the consequences Zane would face for her actions.
After securing Ilsa Zane in a holding cell, the Infinity plunged once more into Slipspace, bound for home. Fred had helped Linda to the med bay to have her wounds addressed. The rest of Blue team, Noble 6, The Master Chief and Lt. Cmdr Palmer soon joined them for their post mission check. The Spartans endured a relentless series of debriefings with the Captain, Lord Hood, and Admiral Osman after they where cleared by medical, the latter two appearing via a vid link. Individual debriefs and collective sessions filled their schedule.
What truly rattled the senior officers was the revelation contained in the helmet footage from Palmer and The Chief. It unveiled Zane engaged in conversation with Admiral Stevens, and even more shockingly, the collaboration between the Covenant and the Insurrectionists. The implications of this clandestine alliance reverberated through the ranks.
