Qoheleth: How come Death never made this offer to any of the cloak's previous owners? (Or, alternately, why was Harry the first one to accept?)
Jesse: Because none of the other users were near a dead family member, by way of a dementor, while having it on their person. (Or the other times Death never made the offer, and he just really wanted it back.)
As Harry sat there, after Death left, his eyes wandered over to Dudley's corpse. He sits there just staring at him for about a minute but it felt like hours. Then he thinks about his stuff in the Dursley's House and knows that he can't return to the house without Dudley. So he calls his friend Dobby and asks him to retrieve all of his things.
While waiting for Dobby to return a couple Aurors show up looking for him. They are Nymphadora Tonks and Kingsley Shacklebolt. He looks over at the Aurors while sitting there and just stares at them. Tonks looks over at Harry and says "wotcher Harry". As Harry looks at them confused Kingsley is checking Dudley only to find out he has had his soul sucked out. Kingsley looks over at Harry and asks him what happened. Harry just answered with the whole story, except about what happened with Death.
Tonks looks at Harry and tells him that Dumbledore had sent them to come and get him. At that moment Dobby reappears with all of his things and hands a shrunken trunk to him, telling him that everything is in the trunk. Harry stands up and tells the two Aurors that he is ready to go. After they took ahold of him they disappeared from there and reappeared in the alley of Grimmauld Square. After coming out of the alley they handed him a piece of paper and told him to read it. After he reads it a house just appears out of nowhere.
When he steps inside, immediately he is hugged by his godfather Sirius. Who asks him what is wrong. Harry looks at his godfather and tells him the same thing he told the Aurors earlier. Sirius tells him that everything was going to be okay. Harry tells him that yes he didn't like any of the Dursleys but he didn't want them dead.
A few minutes later he sees who else is at the house; Remus Lupin, two men he has never met and two ladies he has never seen before. Sirius introduces Harry to the two men first and they are Elphias Doge and Mundungus Fletcher. When he tries to introduce him to the ladies they beat him to it. Introducing themselves as Hestia Jones and Emmeline Vance.
