Disclaimer:
I do not own trolls. Dreamworks has all rights. First three chapters are a fanfic of a fanfic; Lone Concert originally by Dawnbuneary. The story has been dead since 2017 and I decided to pick it backup so here is my take on this trollverse. Hope you enjoy.
Branch and Poppy were sleepinging peacefully. Branch had ended up draping his arm around Poppy pulling her into a snug snuggle. He breathed in her strawberry bubblegum scent and was calmer than he had been in days. Poppy curled up into Branch's arms feeling safe and protected and at ease for the first time that week. The two finally had a restful night's sleep that they had been lacking since the breakup. Poppy was currently facing away from Branch but his warmth drew her in like a moth to a flame; she rolled over to be facing the grey troll without even realizing it. She took in his earthy scent that she missed so much. Poppy wrapped her arms around Branch bringing him closer to her. But all things do have to end at some point. The sun rose into the sky and peek through the trees catching both Poppy and Branch's eyes as it shines for all to see. Branch and Poppy both stirred due to the brightness of the morning sun and feeling rested for the first time in a while. The couple opened their eyes at the same time, blinking, smiling in content, taking a moment to register what was actually happening and that it was indeed NOT a dream. When the realization hit the two jumped from each other's arms, faces filled with blush. "I'll pack up the camp." Branch said without looking at Poppy.
Poppy on the other hand wanted to talk about what had just happened, but knew better of it. She knew that she couldn't push Branch into talking about anything he did not wish to speak about. So she just sat there preparing breakfast which was just the same thing they had eaten the night before. SHe gave a sigh as they chewed in awkward silence. Branch could barely look at her. Was he worried that she was mad? She wasn't. She actually missed being wrapped in the grey troll's strong arms. She honestly could not think of a better place to be. "Hey, um you know it wasn't anyone's fault last night right. I mean the fire went out and we were both probably cold." Poppy tried to explain, but found it really hard when she saw that for the first time that day he was looking at her. He understood what she was trying to do. "Yeah so it would make sense for us to have been looking for…. Um. Warmth." Branch finished, almost choking on the blueberry he had placed into his mouth. "Right. So no need to be weird about it right?" Poppy said hopefully. "Right." Branch agreed.
Branch then looked up at the sky. They needed to get moving if they wanted to reach Bergan town before nightfall. "Let's get going." Branch said gathering all their stuff and Poppy followed suit. Soon they were back to traveling down the path to save their fellow trolls. Soon Branch and Poppy stumble upon something never in his life he thought he would see again. The tunnels they had used to escape that fateful day. The day after his gramma died. The day after he had lost his colors. "We're here at the escape tunnels." He told Poppy who probably didn't remember that day at all. "So one of these tunnels leads to the Troll tree." She said more than asked. She wanted to take a moment to really take it all in. She had heard so many stories about the escape tunnel, she even began to tell it to the younger generation but she never actually saw it or at least remembered seeing it. She was so young. "That's right." Branch told her. "There's so many of them. I wonder which one." Poppy said seeing that other critters must have created more of the tunnels that the trolls originally made. "I don't know." Branch said. He never memerized the original placement of the tunnel because he swore he'd never go back.
Before they could figure out which tunnel was the right tunnel they heard a really strange voice call out to them. "Choose a hole wisely! For one will lead to Bergen Town. And the others, to certain death." Branch did not like this. "Who said that?" Branch demanded trying to sound as threatening as possible while guiding Poppy behind him. "It was. Me. Hey, guys, how's it going? Welcome to the root tunnels. I just wanted to warn you. One of these tunnels leads to the Troll tree. And the others to certain death, death, death, death." The thing that appeared before them was a talking cloud with just socks on. Poppy eased her way out from behind Branch to ask the Cloud Guy a question. "Do you think you can tell us which is the right one?" Branch could not believe Poppy was asking this stranger a question. "You bet!" He responded but Branch did not trust this weirdo. He quickly beat Poppy to a response. "Great! No, that's okay. We're fine, thanks!" Branch said trying to push Poppy away from this lone stranger, but unfortunately for him Poppy would be having none of that. "Branch." She said, trying to get him to stop. "He's trying to help us."
"I don't like the looks of him. I mean, who wears socks with no shoes?" Poppy just gave him a look that said really. "He seems to know what he's talking about." Poppy said, trying to convence Branch. "Okay, fine." This did take Poppy off guard; she would have expected more push back from the grey troll, but she was not going to question a blessing. "Which way do we go?" She kindly asked the Cloud Guy, who just held up a finger singalling for her to just wait a moment. "First, you have to give me a high five. Then I'll tell you." Poppy hopped up and down excited. "What? I love high fives. I'll do it." She held her hand up ready to give this stranger a hi five. Cloud Guy looked her up and down knowing that she was telling the truth. " Oh, I know you'll do it. But will he?" He said pointing at Branch. "All right, dumpy diapers, up high!" He said, holding his hand up waiting for the answer he expected from the grey grump. "Nope, I don't do high fives." Branch said to walk away from Cloud Guy and over to Poppy to create a barrier between him and this guy who is clearly a psycho. "Slap it, boss." Cloud Guy said following Branch. "Not gonna happen." Poppy should have known this was not going to be as easy as she hoped. "Party on the top floor." Branch was doing everything he could to get away from him. "Nope."
"Little slappy. Make Daddy happy." Cloud Guy said, wiggling his unusually long fingers. "That's weird." Branch said, cringing. Poppy was getting frustrated at Branch's stubbornness. "Come on, just one little high five." She groaned at the grey troll. "No, thanks. I'm good." Cloud Guy decided to try and help. "Here, just do this. But with your hand." He said demonstrating what a hi five was like Branch didn't know what it was he was asking for. "Thank you for that demonstration. Really cleared up exactly what I will not be doing." Poppy had had enough. "Branch, it's a high five. The others lead to certain death. Get perspective." Branch sighed he knew Poppy was right. One hi five wouldn't kill him. "One high five and then you'll tell us which tunnel to take, right?" Cloud Guy gave a grin that didn't make Branch trust any more than he already did. "So easy." Branch stood there for a moment debating whether or not to cave. In the end he saw Poppy's face and knew what he had to do. "Okay, fine!" Branch said as he went in for a hi five but missed. "Too slow." The look on Branch's face when Cloud Guy said this made it really hard for Poppy not to laugh. "Too slow?" She really was trying her best not to laugh. "Classic."
"No, no. All right. I'm gonna let you slide with a fist bump." Cloud Guy said holding up his fist for Branch to hit, but when he tried to Cloud Guy a whole bunch of really weird stuff which in turn only angered Branch further. "Okay, okay, okay. Now I'm thinking we hug." Cloud Guy was going to milk it for all it was worth, but it seems he may have pushed it too far because he was at his limit. He grabbed a stick and snapped it in half causing Cloud Guy to wet himself and start to fear and run for his life. "That's right. You better run, cloud!" Branch shouted chasing the poor cloud. "Wait!" Poppy hollered chasing Branch trying to stop him. "I'm gonna tear your little cloud arms. Off your cloud body, and high five your face with them!" Branch threatened. "He's just a cloud!" Poppy said, trying to reason with him. "Get back here!" Branch demanded, he has had enough of people messing with him. "Branch! He can help us!" Branch was ignoring the pink princess favoring his own anger. "Come back!" Poppy realized she was not getting through to Branch so she decided to help Cloud Guy instead. "Run, Cloud Guy!" But Branch was not done with his verbal abuse. "I'm gonna kill you!" The two trolls did not nitice where they were going, having been too focused on the cloud. It wasn't until he had stopped when they saw that they were at their desired destination. The Troll Tree in Bergan Town. At this point Branch had snapped out of his anger and calmed down a little; just glad the stupid cloud had kept his end of the bergin. "Ta-da! We're here! You guys are a cute couple and are a lot of fun. You know, I gotta go. Got some cloud stuff to take care of. Catch you on the way back? Unless. You die." Cloud Guy left making the two trolls blush when he called them a couple. Then a noise drew the attention of both trolls.
I ain't happy,
I'm feeling glad I got sunshine in a bag,
I'm useless But not for long the future is coming on,
I ain't happy.
Poppy and Branch saw all of Bergan Town sing this depressing song. "Wow! They're as miserable as you." Poppy whispered to Branch who just gave her a look. That she ignored because a thought had just entered her mind. "Which means they haven't eaten a Troll yet. Now, come on. Let's go save our friends." Poppy said as she headed toward the Bergan Castle. "Your friends." Branch tried to correct. "Our friends. Don't fight it." Branch knew better than to fight with Poppy. He knew better did not mean he didn't also enjoy annoying her.
At the palace the king Bergan was talking to his pet gator. "Oh, Barnabus. You're my only friend in this whole miserable world. Dad was right. I'll never ever, never ever, never be happy. Never." King Gristle was depressed like the rest of Bergan Town. "Never say never." The Chef said to the sad king. "Chef, where did you come from? My father banished you 20 years ago. Why are you here?" The young Bergan king demanded. "I've been out in the wilderness. Thinking of nothing but how I let you down. If only there was some way I could make you feel better." The Chef said, trying to win favor with the naive royal. "Well, fat chance! The only way I'll ever be happy is by eating a Troll. And that ain't gonna happen, thanks to you." It was clear everyone still blamed her for the troll's escape, but she knew that would all soon change. "But it just might. Thanks to me." She said unzipping her fanny pack to reveal the kidnapped trolls she had with her. King Gristle and the guard could not believe it, no one had seen a troll in twenty years. "You found the Trolls. So this means I might actually get to be happy!" The young King was hopeful for the first time since that day the trolls went missing. "That's right. Of course, everyone else in Bergen Town will still be miserable. But that's not your concern." The Chef led the king with her manipulative words. "I am their king, so maybe it kinda is." King Gristle said with concern for his people. "What exactly are you proposing? Bringing back Trollstice? For everyone?" The Chef smirked with her back to the king. Hook. Line. "Yes! That's exactly what I'm proposing." And sinker.
"Great idea, sire. Absolutely brilliant. Aren't you smart?" The Chef said to the king to stroke his ego. "I guess I am." Now for the next part of her plan. Placing herself inside the castle close to the king. "And I, your loyal Chef, will be right behind you. Holding a knife." King Gristle heard the minasing tone in Chef's voice. "What's that?" He was always nervous of the woman even as a child she had always scared him. "Holding a knife, a spoon, a ladle. I'm your chef, after all!" The Chef quickly said to cover up her earlier remark. " Yeah, you sure are!" Chef was beyond glad that her plan worked. "I'm back! You, scullery maid, what's your name?" She pointed to a small girl about the King's age. "Bridget." She said meekly back to the terrifying woman. "Congratulations, Idget. You work for me now. So you take those dishes downstairs and you start scrubbing." Bridget did not care that Chef practically called her an idiot while also saying her name wrong; she was just glad she finally got a promotion after twenty years of service. "Yes, Chef. Thank you, Chef."
Chef headed back to her old kitchen glad to finally be back home in the palace where she belonged. She unzipped her fanny pack and threw all the trolls she had captured into a cage. Everyone was trying to calm themselves down over the fact that they were most likely going to be eaten. "Don't cry, Mr. Dinkles. Guys, Mr. Dinkles is really freaking out!" Biggie screetched in concern for his pet. "Whoa, whoa! Everyone, we must all remain calm." Creek tried to calm all the fellow trolls down. Now was his time to show King Peppy that he was King material for Poppy and far better for her than Brnach ever could be. "That's right. A calm Troll is a tasty Troll. And you are a key ingredient in my recipe for success. You see. He who controls the Trolls controls the kingdom. And I am that he!" The Chef said explaining her plot to the captive trolls. "You're a dude?" Cooper asked, confused, but D quickly covered his brother's mouth before the Chef heard. Sadly for Cooper she did and she was not amused by the comment. So much so she squirted lemon in the troll's eyes.
"By this time tomorrow, I'll be queen. And all of Bergen Town will get exactly what they deserve. True happiness!" The Chef said excitedly. Creek did not want to die. He also didn't want all of his friends to die so he was about to tell a secret he has kept safe for roughly fifteen years now. "Wait. What if you had other trolls to use instead of us?" Creek screamed. The others looked at him like he was about to reveal the location of their home. "Creek, what are you doing?" King Peppy asked the purple troll sternly. "Saving us." Creek snapped back. "You;d be willing to tell me where your home is?" Chef asked cautiously. "No, but I know where the first group of trolls that escaped are." King Peppy looked at Creek like a bombshell just went off. "What are you talking about, they died." Creek shook his head. "No, we thought they did. But when I was five I wandered too far from the village and found that they were alive. I wanted to come back and tell everyone but realized that maybe Branch was right. If we sent a party to go out and grabbed them then we could have led a Bergan either to us or to them so I kept quiet. They were safe and we were safe and that was enough but now." Creek said with a new tone in his voice that said he didn't really care now to what happens to those other trolls. "Well the rest of the troll kingdom already believes they are dead so what is the harm?" Creek said with little to no emotion. King Peppy could not believe that his wife was alive. Everyone could not believe this. Creek was willing to sell out trolls to save them? "Look, we either give up a few to save many or we lose everything. Sometimes a leader has to make the tough decisions and I'm the one who has to live with this, not you." Creek said with a matter of fact tone.
"Well tell me and if you are right then I will spare you." Chef said. Truthfully I think we all know that she won't let them go either way but here's to hope. "Creek no." King Peppy demanded, but that didn't stop the purple troll. "They are at an abandoned Bergan Mini Golf course. Called Hole in Fun or something like that. Be prepared they are armed." Creek said. Chef in return gave him one of her wicked grins. She gathered up some of the guards and headed out to retrieve those trolls. "I can not believe you just did that." Biggie said disappointed in his friend. "Like I said it was either our home or theirs. Do you really think Poppy isn't out there looking for us with who knows how many other trolls that could lead chef to the kingdom right now. I was trying to protect everyone else." Creek said as he went over to the part of the cage no one else was there to be alone. He really didn't want to do that but he didn't have any other choice and hoped that the others would soon realize that. He was just trying to save them.
Ok new chapter and this is one of my favorites and it definitely sets up to some of the big changes I have for the story. Hope you like where I am heading with this. Also comment if you think Creek did the right thing by keeping the secret of the Putt Putt Trolls? I am trying to combine all three movies with the plot of movie one. I love the characters of movie two but it does feel slightly out of sync (wink) with the first and third movie. So here we are with just one big Troll Epic. Sorry there isn't much singing but Bergans aren't really known for that, right. I love reading your commits and I hope y'all enjoyed reading this. Bye.
