Season 2- Episode 11- Reassuring

—-Donnie's hope for acceptance from the members of his family who didn't know about his background became smaller and smaller as time went on. He could feel the intense stares of Raph and Mikey burning holes through his body as he slightly raised his shoulders and hugged himself tightly in an attempt to make himself smaller. The fact that no one said anything only made the situation much more intense and uncomfortable for him. Donnie's frown deepened as he waited for someone to say something. Anything.
Sadly for Donnie, Raph and Mikey struggled too much in order to make a response, and Leo and his father decided that although they noticed the discomfort that Donnie was experiencing, they felt like it wasn't their place to make the next move.
Donnie waited a few more seconds, only to realize that he is the one that needs to break the silence.
He sighed as he straightened himself, trying to ignore the discomfort that he was feeling from being the center of attention.
"Listen… Guys… I didn't know about that story either. I thought that I was the same as you all." Donnie said with deep sorrow as his gaze was drawn to the floor. He wished to be the same. Sadly, he can't really change the fact that he is who he is either.
"I found out about my biological parents when we were out on patrol. When we were checking out that Foot building I found a computer and hacked into it in order to find important information. And apparently, the Shredder was studying our DNA. Luckily he didn't find anything important about you guys… But he managed to find out about me…" Donnie lifted his gaze as he looked at Raph and Mikey, studying their reactions.
They flinched as Donnie's words sunk in. Terror washed over them as they understood what it meant. The Shredder was now in the game as well.
Donnie sighed sadly as he still didn't hear a response from Mikey and Raph. He looked over all of his family as he felt a wave of sadness wash over him. He forced his eyes shut and his lips slightly trembled, attempting to hold back tears as he wrapped his arms around himself even tighter.
"I… Understand if you all don't want me to be around anymore..." Donnie said quietly as his breathing slightly hitched.
A few more seconds passed by in silence. Nothing could be heard but Donnie's ragged breathing.
He felt like the agony of a lack of response could crush him, since it might mean that Donnie was right. They don't want him around anymore, do they?
Donnie gasped loudly in surprise as he felt himself being pulled into a crushing embrace.
He quickly opened his eyes as he processed what was happening.
"..M-Mikey?!" Donnie yelped in surprise.
"Dude! D-Don't even say that!" Mikey yelled in shock.
"Huh?" Donnie said, confused by Mikey's reaction. He quickly looked around as he suddenly could feel the rest of his family move closer, only to one by one follow Mikey's lead and join the hug.
"Guys?! What's going on?!" Donnie asked in utter confusion as he was stuck in the middle of a group hug. He looked around frantically, only to see horror wash over his family's expressions.
"How could you even think that, Donnie…?" Leo asked him quietly as he looked at him with an expression of deep sadness.
Donnie looked at him in shock, trying but not managing to come up with a response.
"...Donnie." Raph mumbled quietly to get his attention.
Donnie looked at Raph, slightly surprised, interested in what he would say.
"Look, I won't lie to you, but I'm really freaked out. However, we are not going to abandon you or something over this…" Raph mumbled out, a little embarrassed by taking the spotlight of being the nice guy. It wasn't usually like him, but he did look over his brothers.
"So stop thinking like that." Raph added quietly, trying not to slap himself from the embarrassment that he had caused himself. He could see his father smile proudly at him as he attempted to act as if he didn't notice it.
Donnie's jaw hung open while his eyes widened in shock as he tried to take everything in.
"Wait… What? How come you all take the news so well?" Donnie asked as he looked at his family.
"We don't. But it's not about us, right?" Mikey said as he shrugged without breaking the embrace.
Donnie blinked in surprise as he stared at Mikey.
"Yeah, I was pretty shocked too when you told me about the Shredder and your relations, but I knew that you were the one going through a hard time so I had to put my feelings aside in order to help you." Leo chimed in.
"Yeah, Brainiac. It will take time to digest it. A lot of time. But, we know that all of this isn't your fault. Besides, we grew up together and we are there for each other. Doesn't that mean that we are brothers regardless of your relations? Also, it's not like we were sure that we were brothers by DNA in the first place." Raph added as Leo and Mikey nodded in agreement.
Splinter's smile widened in pride as he looked over his sons. They were surprisingly mature, and unsurprisingly were there for their brother. It's good that even when their brotherhood is put to test during harsh times, they still stay strong for one another.
"W-wait, so you are all okay with it?" Donnie asked dumbfoundedly as he stared in surprise at his family.
"Nope. But we will be." Raph said as he smirked at Donnie, who smiled awkwardly, but happily, back at him.
"It is kind of cool, too. Being the son of your greatest enemy? Sounds like a cool plot twist!" Mikey enthusiastically added with a huge smile on his face as he stared at Donnie excitedly, being immature as always.
"Reminds me of a certain movie." Raph added as he scratched his chin in thought.
"I think that I know what you mean." Leo added, smirking as Donnie chuckled.
"I am sure that your brothers are having a hard time understanding the situation, and it might take them some time to accept it, like how you still need time to accept it. Don't you?" Splinter asked Donnie, smiling fondly at him to make him feel better as he stopped them from kidding around before they could lose the main point.
"Oh! Yeah, don't worry about it." Donnie said awkwardly, looking away from his father in order to hide his excitement. He didn't expect for the conversation to go so well, and he didn't expect his brothers to actually try this hard in order to be there for him. A wide smile crept onto his lips as he closed his eyes, so that tears wouldn't escape his eyelids. At least this time the tears weren't coming from negative emotions.
"Th-Thanks… For being there for me." Donnie stuttered quietly as he attempted to control his reaction in order to avoid embarrassing himself in front of his family. He smiled warmly as he melted into their embrace.
"Of course we will be there for you. We are your family, aren't we?" Leo asked, smirking, as he looked at Mikey and Raph who were smirking as well in approval.
They all broke off the hug as they finally stood up.
"Yeah! No tin can genetic relations will affect us, bro." Raph said, chuckling as he pinched Donnie's cheek harshly in order to annoy him. "Ow! Why are you guys pinching me lately?!" Donnie asked, clearly very annoyed as he swatted away Raph's hand.
"Bro, you are clearly seen as the youngest now. Get used to it." Mikey said, smirking as Raph and Leo chuckled mischievously.
"No, they just like to annoy me. Will you shut up? I literally have the Shredder on my tail now." Donnie grumbled.
"Yay, more drama, just like I like it." Raph replied cynically. To think about the fact that their biggest enemy is going to be even a bigger threat right after discovering a huge secret and not even having time to digest it isn't a really nice thing to think about.
"Eh, that's a problem for later. My brain hurts enough right now." Mikey says as Donnie nodded in agreement.
"Yeah… that's true. At least you are all here to support me." Donnie said, smiling as he scratched the back of his neck while looking away nervously.
"Of course we are, Donatello. We will always be there for you." Splinter smiled as he put his hand on Donnie's shoulder in order to reassure him.
Donnie embraced his father once again, burying his face in his clothes to show his gratitude, as his father hugged him back right away.
The brothers smiled at them as Splinter beamed.
"Remember, Donatello. We will always be family."
