"Yes, that's right. All I'm asking is for you to figure out his routine, you know... his schedule, when he leaves work, where he goes to the gym, if he stops for a pint on the way home, who his mates are, etc." Finn did his best to explain what he was expecting, but the private investigation firm he usually used did not send his usual person. Instead, they sent a beautiful redheaded female.
"I understand, Mr. Morgan. Do you want me to collect anything, make friends with him, or anything else?" she asked.
Finn shook his head, "No, nothing like that. Stay out of sight and don't let him know you are tailing him." He flashed a smile, "And please, call me Finn, Darling."
She smirked at him, "Ok, Finn. So this is the only information you have on him?" She gestured to the open manilla folder containing a print out of Rory's engagement announcement.
"For now, yes. I have info on her, but I don't want to use it unless you don't get anything with just him." He shook his head and lowered his voice.
She nodded curtly, "Understood." She stood up. "I'll be in touch. Reach out if you get any more details on him."
Finn nodded, "Thank you. Will do."
As she walked out of the coffee shop, Finn text Colin. 'Its done.'
Colin: 'What's done?'
Finn: 'I got a PI on Anderson.'
Colin: 'Who is Anderson?'
Finn: "Love's fiance"
Colin: "Why? Do we have more info?"
Finn: "Not yet, but I'm trying to find some."
Colin: "Then what?"
Finn: "Then what what?"
Colin: "What?"
Finn: "What the fuck are you talking about?"
Colin: "What comes next? What's the plan?"
Finn: "My plan was to get a PI and see what info we can get on this guy."
Colin: "Are you looking for anything in particular?"
Finn: "Any weakness. Anything that can make her see that this is not the guy for her."
Colin: "Are you getting a hooker or something to get close to him? For him to cheat or something?"
Finn: "THIS is why you are the idea guy!"
Colin shook his head and sighed as he walked into his next meeting.
Stewart turned off the water after his shower and wiped the water off his face and pushed his hair back. As he grabbed his towel, his cellphone chimed. After drying off a bit more, he crossed the room and answered it. "Mom! Hi!"
"Stewart, how are you?" Karen Anderson asked her youngest son.
"I'm great, Mom. I had time to go for a run and now I'm getting ready to leave for work. How are you and Dad?" he inquired as he switched his phone to speakerphone. He placed it on the bathroom vanity as he continued to dry off.
"We're really good, Stew. I had lunch with Emily Gilmore," she said quietly. "She's a lovely woman."
Stewart nodded while he applied deodorant then combed his hair. "Sure, sure. Emily is great."
Karen hesitated a bit then asked, "Do you think we could get together and talk sometime soon? We haven't seen you in over a month."
"Well, Mom, I would love to but my schedule is crazy right now. My residency is super busy and I just changed rotations." Stewart brought the phone into his closet as he put on underwear and socks. "Is there something you need to talk about right away? I guess I could take a day off and go to see you..."
"No, no, nothing like that. I was just hoping to speak with you about a concern I have," Karen replied.
Stewart frowned and rolled his eyes. "Mom, could we just talk now? It might be better to get it over with?" He was used to his mom making big things out of little things.
Karen took a deep breath and said, "I wanted to speak with you about Rory. She's been hiding something from you and I think you should know, before its too late."
"O-kay... Could you please just tell me? Instead of being so cryptic?" Stewart sat down to put on his socks. "I have to leave for work in exactly 10 minutes. I don't mean to be rude, but could you just tell me?"
All at once, all in what sounded like one word, "Rory-used-to-live-with-Logan-Huntzberger!" is what fell out of Karen's mouth in a loud blurt.
"What? Mom, what are you saying?" Stewart took another breath and put on his other sock. He squinted in the direction of his phone, rather annoyed with the lack of clear information.
Karen lowered her voice a little and said, "Apparently when Rory was in college, she actually LIVED with Logan Huntzberger!"
"Who is Logan Huntzberger?" Stewart asked.
"He's that playboy that was always in the news for getting into trouble. In the past few years, it seems like he can't keep a job. He starts companies and sells them left and right. Even your father knew who he was," she shrieked.
"Mom, slow down. Are you saying that Rory lived with a guy when she went to Yale?" he asked.
"Yes, Stewart! He lived with Logan HuntzBERGER!" she shrieked into her phone.
Stewart pulled on sweatpants and a tshirt while his mother ranted about her opinion of Rory's life. Once he was able to get a word in, he said, "Mom, stop."
"No, Stewart, you have to wonder what else you don't know about her. You're about to marry this girl and you didn't know anything about this," she huffed.
Stewart sat down to put his sneakers on and said to his mom, "Mom, I knew Rory had a long term relationship in college and they lived together."
"STEWART! How could you get involved with someone who used to live with Logan Huntzberger? Of all the people..."
"Mom! Stop. She never hid anything from me. Its Rory. Relax!" This was not the first time his mother tried to interject her opinions into his relationship and it likely wouldn't be the last - but it didn't stop him from being tired of it. "Have you ever met this guy? Or even seen him in person?"
"Well, no. I met his sister when I was out with Emily though." Karen frowned and sniffed a little.
"Mom, we both know Rory is an excellent judge of character. If she had a relationship with him for several years, he probably had some good qualities. Rory wouldn't be with someone who wasn't a good guy," Stewart did his best to dissuade his mother's concerns and let those same concerns go in one ear and out the other. Every woman Stewart had ever dated, his mother did her best to tear down. This wasn't a new routine - but he wasn't interested. Rory's past was her past - and he did his best to not think about it. After all, what guy wanted to think about his girl's past?
