Having spent a majority of the afternoon in a certain Potion Master's bed, Severus and Aurora forced themselves to leave the confines of his chambers in preparation to attend the evenings meal. In the hours of her waking from petrification, the wizard discussed with Aurora the events after she had been attacked: Hagrid having been sent to Azkaban, Albus being suspended as Headmaster and Ginny Weasley kidnapped into the Chamber. She was most interested in learning how Harry Potter and Ronald Weasley discovered the chamber, saved the young girl and defeated the monster inside. Having heard the events through the last few weeks, the female was stunned, to say the least.

Needing a physical break, Aurora waited in the front room while Severus bathed, showering the smell of sex and sweat off his skin. Her thighs tightened and core pulsed, knowing the man she loved was naked in the next room; though, with the last few hours they had, she was overdue for a break. Once he was dressed, Aurora pulled the man towards her chambers, needing to see her pet companions, to hold them in her arms. Without stating the password, her portrait opened, allowing entry for both witch and wizard. Upon arrival, she cried the names for the tiny creatures she loved; Sapphire squeaked and flew from her small bed on the witch's desk while Merlin jumped off the back of the couch.

Falling to her knees, Aurora was bombarded by scales and fur, both animals purring loudly as she petted her companions. Holding both close, Aurora closed her eyes. She had missed the feel of Severus' skin against hers, yet also missing the loving creatures she's had for years. Grabbing treats from her kitchen, she gave Sapphire and Merlin several, as they deserved something special for the stress she unknowingly caused. Facing Severus, she grabbed his shoulder, lips connecting against his softly.

"Thank you," she murmured, blinking the waterworks away. Making way to her room, Aurora took the time to bathe as well, scrubbing her hair, enjoying the warmth of running water. She had been petrified, yes, but waking up knowing she hadn't showered in a few weeks left the woman feeling filthy.

Showered, dressed in her dark blue lace dress and smelling of cherry blossoms, Aurora ran her fingers through the thick mass of hair, pulling the locks into a messy bun atop her head. Having placed her cherished necklace over her head, Aurora paused in placing the bracelet on as well. At least, until she and Severus had their conversation later that evening. Sapphire curled around her neck, claiming her personal spot, the woman kissed her black cat before they left her quarters, heading upstairs to the Great Hall.

Once on the main floor, more students flooded the corridors, someone stating they were glad Aurora was cured while others, mainly those who had been or were her students, gave the woman a hug and were more energetic with her return. Entering the Great Hall was the same. Students screamed her name as she waved and hugged several more. The woman became teary eyed, not knowing the young individuals would be this enthusiastic about her return from petrification.

The faculty had given her an identical reaction, though they were more touchy-feeling than simply stating her name. Minerva was the one to hug her the longest, twisting the woman back and forth a few moments before holding the woman at arm's length. "Oh Aurora, I am so glad you're ok! I was so worried!"

"Me too Minerva," she answered, hugging the professor once more then taking her seat next to Severus as they watched the remainder of students enter the Great Hall. Albus soon joined, patting the witch's shoulder before claiming his seat in the middle of the table. From her spot, she grabbed Severus' hand, holding his fingers tight beneath the table. Stealing a sideways glance at the wizard, she could see a smirk on his lips as he watched her. Heat grew across her cheek, her love for the man stronger than ever. Their conversation to take place was long overdue, but still, Aurora couldn't simply throw aside the devotion and affection she held for the man. The words she spoke that morning were true: she would believe the wizard, only forgoing to end their relationship if his words were to reveal that it had always been Lily.

From her position, she could see Hermione Granger running through the middle aisle towards Harry and Ron, the three hugging one another, knowing their friend was back with them. Happy for the three friends, she caught Minerva move by her side as the Deputy Headmistress clinked her goblet with a utensil. "Could I have your attention, please?" her soothing voice rang out against the hall.

Standing from his seat, Albus addressed the students in the Great Hall, their attention now on him as their voices quieted down in respect. "Before we begin the feast, let us have a round of applause for Professor Sprout and Madame Pomfrey, whose mandrake juice has been so successfully administered to all who had been petrified." Clapping echoed within the dining hall as the two faculty members blushed, their smiles wide and proud for their accomplishment.

"Also, please give a round of applause for those who were attacked throughout the year, for they are able to join us once more for this lovely feast. To Mrs. Norris, Colin Creevey, Justin Finch-Fletchley, Sir Nearly Headless Nick, Hermione Granger, and our very own Professor Warrington." The students erupted in more clapping. Argus closely hugged his beloved cat to his chest, the petrified students were hugged by their friends and House, while Aurora received smiles from her family of teachers. Minerva hugged Aurora from the side, with Severus gripping her thigh tightly, peering at her from his peripheral.

Clearing his throat, Albus regained the student's attention. "Also, in light of recent event, as a school treat, all exams have been canceled."

Aurora couldn't resist laughing, the roar from students louder, knowing their end of the year would be that much easier without having to study for numerous tests. From the front table, Aurora could see Hermione groan, saddened her intellect wouldn't be challenged before heading home for summer. Shaking her head, the younger witch reminded the older of herself when she was a student within the castle. Raising his hand to gain their attention once more, the heavy doors into the hall suddenly opened, slowly widening, allowing all to see the one who opened them from the outside. It all grew quiet, students peering over one another to see the large figure walking into the Great Hall.

"Hagrid!" Aurora whispered, her hand tightening on Severus'.

The half-giant peered around the hall before he spoke in his typically low voice. "Sorry I'm late." Making way through the middle aisle, Hagrid stared straight ahead. "The owl tha' delivered my release papers got all lost and confused. Some ruddy bird called Errol." At the mention of his family's bird, Ron Weasley slowed turned to his Headmaster as Albus glanced over his thin-framed glasses at the young man. However, Hagrid, having stopped at the Gryffindor table, looked down at the infamous three, the ones who were always at his cabin for tea and good conversation. "And I'd just like to say tha' if it hadn' been for you, Harry, and Ron, and, Hermione, o' course, I woulduh – I'd still be you-know-where, so I'd just like to say...thanks!"

Brightly smiling, Harry stood to his feet. "There's no Hogwarts without you, Hagrid."

Leaning forward, Harry wrapped his arms around the half-giant, as much as he could, and received one in return. As he had resumed his seat, Albus stood once more, slowly clapping for the wizard who had been misjudged, sentence to the wizarding prison from crimes he hadn't committed. Minerva stood next, followed by Aurora and the rest of the staff. Immediately, the aura of the hall transformed, with more students from the other Houses – minus Slytherin – all crowded around the half-giant, seeking a handshake or an embrace.

Moving around the faculty table, Aurora placed Sapphire onto the table, walking through the crowd, students stepping aside for her. Eyeing the young woman, Hagrid smiled widely as she did the same, swooping herself into his arms, hugging the half-giant tightly. She hadn't been there when he had been accused then taken to Azkaban, and she felt awful. They had spoken of the issue that occurred fifty-years ago and she knew the toll that had been placed on the gentle giant. Full heartedly, Aurora believe Hagrid had been innocent, both then and during this school year; he didn't deserve to be treated the way he had.

"I'm so glad your back, Hagrid!"

"Oh, Aurora...I'm glad you're ok!" Lifting her up by the arms, the half-giant placed her upon his shoulder, her arm wrapping around his neck for support. More students gathered around the gentle giant, few tears flowing from his eye, as he didn't think the students cared for him as they did for some other faculty. Cheering just as loudly Aurora peered towards the front table, surprised to see Severus standing with the others, clapping in respect for Hagrid. Grinning widely, she knew the Potions Master would never smile in the presence of others; his eyes, on the other hand, glowed with passion and reverence.

After a few moments, students moved back to their seat, allowing the Keeper of Keys to resume his unoccupied seat, all the while carrying Aurora on his shoulder, her giggle echoing over the other voices.

Dinner that night was lively as though it was the End of the Year Feast. There were still a few weeks remaining in the school year, but the atmosphere left all individuals in the Great Hall feeling happy and excited. Aurora and Severus were holding a conversation between themselves all night, though their minds were set on the discussion to be held once they were hidden away in the privacy of the dungeon. Listening and enjoying the evening became difficult when all they wanted to do was leave early. Ecstatic Hagrid was where he deserved to be, Aurora wanted nothing more than to drink tea in his cabin with Fang and talk through the afternoon. Such a wish would wait until the following day, sadly deciding against the idea. Severus and I need this night to ourselves, regardless of what it may bring.

Finally, when dessert had been served, Albus declared it was time for the students to return to their Houses, as class would resume the following morning. Complying, the Great Hall gradually emptied, leaving the faculty to exit last. Aurora received several more embraces, especially from Minerva, before finally given the chance to take their leave. Once in the dark depths of the school, Aurora assumed they would be heading to either personal chamber. Her surprise was evident when Severus tenderly clutched her elbow, diverting their path to his office. Locking the door once entering, she watched the man move across the room to one of the walls lined with shelves, filled of various potions and other unique contents. With a wave of his hand, the shelves split down the middle, revealing his pensieve moving forward away from its hidden location.

Her steps echoed against the stone flooring, eyes focused on the mystical water. "What's this for, Severus?"

"You're not aware what a pensieve is, Aurora? How sad."

Rolling her eyes, she stuck her tongue out at the man. "Smartass," she mumbled in slight annoyance. "Seriously, why a pensieve? Why're we here?"

Hand tracing the stone bowl, Severus was quiet, working through his head what he wanted say, the same words he needed to clarify on her birthday. "I figured...this would be the best way for me to show you the truth, to explain why I did what I did on my birthday."

"But...your pensieve?" she covered his hand with hers. "You know, I'm just as good at Legilimency as you, Severus."

"That you are. The thing about the mind is, someone can alter their memories if they are to be penetrated by someone else. You know that."

"Are you saying that if I use Legilimency on you, you're gonna show me altered memories...?" Removing her hand, Severus was quick to snatch it back.

"No, no!" Growling, the man rubbed his chin. "You know as well as I do, that once we extract our thoughts and place them into a pensieve, they cannot be changed. My memories in here are exact, and they will tell you the truth. You will see what I..." Sighing, Severus dropped his hand, stepping back as the woman raised an eyebrow. "My memories can tell you everything that I cannot."

"...Severus?" Stepping to his side, she grasped his arm. "Why are you so afraid to speak what's on your mind?"

"You already witnessed the pain my words have brought you. I can't...I don't trust myself to explain my reasoning for what I did." In fear of her not believing me, were the words he refrained from speaking aloud.

Nodding, Aurora stole a look at the pensieve, tightening her grip on the man's arm as she let go. Standing in front of the bowl, the witch could see black swirls rotating and curling within the water, vague images from memories distorting the surface. Breathing once more, she took hold of the bowl's rim, dunking her head into the water, her body falling instantly into a pit of glowing darkness.

Memory One

Falling into the Astronomy Tower, Aurora groaned as she collided into the metal staircase, only noticing the blackness of the starry sky once she shakily stood to her feet. Groaning from her position, she stood, eyeing the floor above her; moving towards the top floor, she could hear mumbled voices the closer she grew. Twisting around the different columns, her curiosity grew, questioning why this memory, and what the next ones would be. Seeking the two males she could hear conversing, the witch wasn't all surprised Severus was there, but the man he was speaking too. In the darkness, she could still make out the intricate lines of the individuals robes glistening in the moonlight.

"Albus, please!" Severus cried out, causing Aurora to jump in her skin.

"The prophecy did not refer to a woman; it spoke of a boy." the other individual stated, its voice identifying the man as Albus. Standing at the railing glancing over the grounds of the school, the Headmaster was deep in thought, not once looking back at the other wizard. Taking a few moments, he finally turned, Albus' expression was soft and concerned, worry etched in his eyebrows. "A boy which is to be born at the end of July."

Gasping, though neither could hear her, Aurora knew which memory this was. Having rarely spoken of the night, she knew this was the day Severus declared his loyalty to Albus Dumbledore, in becoming a double agent in exchange for the protection of James and Lily Potter from the prophecy. Holding a hand over mouth, Aurora didn't understand why he wanted her to see this particular memory, knowing it was one he liked to keep private.

"Yes, but he thinks it's her son. He intends to hunt them down, and kill him." Stepping forward, Severus walked straight through the invisible Aurora. She watched as his body shook in what he was about to ask. Pleading, Severus spoke his next statement quietly. "Hide her – hide them all, I beg you!"

Contemplating his statement, Albus maneuvered around the wizard, considering a price for such a request. Callously, with hands behind his back, Albus asked, "What will you give me in exchange, Severus?"

"Anything," the Potions Master answered. "Anything you want."

"Hmm," the Headmaster considered the younger wizard's answer. "Anything could be quite steep for you, my boy."

"To protect Lily and her family, it would be a price I will pay."

Returning the railing, Albus resumed in observing the grounds. Aurora, confused by his demeanor, stepped forward, watching the elder wizard ponder through his perspective. Robes suddenly curling around his body, Albus twisted rapidly, Aurora jumped back in fear of the man's quick movements. "Your reasoning for crossing against the Dark Lord is sensible, but I still must question: why? In asking me of this Severus, you're risking certain death."

Opening and closing his mouth, Severus couldn't answer right away. When he did, the man's expression held more anguish than when he stated Voldemort was to seek Lily's son. "If I don't try and keep them safe, she would be ashamed; she, the only one who has ever cared for me. I cannot let her down, and will do everything in my power to prove my worth to her."

"Your worth...? You don't mean...Aurora Warrington?"

He nodded, refusing to stare at the Headmaster any longer. "...I do. If she is to learn I'm the reason Voldemort learned of the prophecy, she would never forgive me...Her opinion of me matters the most in my life and I...don't ever want to be a disappointment in her eyes."

Memory Two

"Ah, Severus, thank you for seeing me before you leave for summer."

Dismissed from the previous memory, Aurora unexpectantly now found herself standing within Albus' office, as the Headmaster stood behind his desk. Severus, closing the door behind him, made way towards the elder wizard, claiming his seat beside the man. Seeing as how both males seemed to have aged, the witch wondered how long it had been since the previous memory and this one.

"What was it you wish to speak of, Albus?"

Sighing, the Headmaster tapped his fingers against the desk. "With the curious events that transpired this past year, my mind has begun to wonder..."

The Potions Master quirked an eyebrow. "You're speaking of Professor Quirrell, are you not?"

"Indeed," Albus nodded. "It does seem peculiar how the Professor's demeanor changed when he returned from his extended trip before the school year started."

"Yes," Severus agreed.

"But for him to have been connected with a fragment of the Dark Lord's soul?" Standing, Albus paced around the room, hand on chin in questioning debate against himself. "I don't understand..." he mumbled.

Watching the two, Aurora guessed this memory was from the end of last year, her first in teaching at Hogwarts. As he hadn't returned to his home in Spinner's End, Severus had most likely met Albus the night she left for the summer, needing a break as she, at the time, was still grieving over her mother's death.

"So what does this mean?" Removing himself from the chair, Severus crossed his arms, watching the Headmaster slowly move from one side of the room to the other. "You once told me the Dark Lord would return. Could this be it?"

Albus waved away the man's statement. "No, no; though, I do think this is the beginning." Stopping mid-step, the aging wizard glanced back at the Death Eater turned spy, the man he had trusted most. "Severus, this is the start of Voldemort's return. You must know what this means."

Nodding, Severus' expression was solemn, and though this was a memory, Aurora could see the trouble in his eyes. Granted, she still did not know all the tiniest details revolving Severus working as a spy for Albus – as she did respect his want for privacy – albeit, she still knew the stress that was placed on the man's shoulders.

"We must keep our eyes open. These next few years will determine how and when the Dark Lord will return. When it happens, you must once more become a double agent, Severus, you will need to reinvoke your status as a Death Eater." Only giving a curt nod as his answer, Severus remained quiet. "What will you do then, my boy?"

"In regards to...?"

Smiling, Albus peered at the young wizard. "Aurora. As of now, it's only a matter of time before Voldemort returns; he will want you by his side, using you as a spy within the castle. The moment he learns of Aurora and her closeness to you, he will use her. But what will you do when he learns she is a Muggleborn? What then?"

Severus had chosen to be remain silent, yet once Albus made his words clear, the man became speechless. Casting his head aside, the Potions Master clenched his teeth, rage boiling beneath the surface.

"However...Voldemort knew you were in love with Lily, did he not? For sure he will discover Aurora."

With still clenched teeth, the man muttered, venom on his tongue. "He did not, and up until I joined your side, that was the only lie I ever told the Dark Lord. I refused to tell him anything about her...or anyone else." Whipping her head to stare at Severus, Aurora was at a loss for words; this was new information to her.

"Severus, you...lied and hid the truth? Why?" Refraining from giving any sort of answer, the man remained stock-still, arms crossed tightly, glaring anywhere else than the Headmaster. "Unless...you were never in love with Lily at all."

"I was," the man snapped as he dragged a hand down his face. "At least, I thought it was love; until I met Aurora."

"But she was only a First Year when you were a Fifth Year."

"That's right," Severus stated simply.

"Then...the night you begged for my assistance and became my spy all those years ago, was it for Lily? Or Aurora?"

The witch couldn't decide if she needed to keep her attention on Severus or the Headmaster.

"Albus," the young wizard growled.

"My boy, if you are with Aurora now, why end things when she graduated? Severus, you have kept yourself in the shadows for so long in believing Lily was what you deserved, yet ended something meant for you, not accepting the gift before you for nearly ten years."

Ignoring the entirety of the Headmaster's statement, Severus could feel his face flush as his mind wandered to Aurora. "Heh, why indeed," he whispered. "When you grow up with nothing, Albus, and are beaten as if it's your fault, you fall for any attention that is given to you." Vulnerability seeped through Severus' wide eyes as he spoke with true honesty for the first time. "Lily was the first to be kind, and for so long, I believed her kindness to be the best I deserved. But then...I met Aurora and, well..."

"Severus, you still haven't answered who it was for."

"EVERYTHING WAS FOR AURORA!" His roar echoing throughout the office, Severus walked along the wall, refusing to glance at Albus. The Headmaster persistence caused the professor to outrage. Growling, he continued to explain as best he could. "All I've done has only been for her. Lily was the person I loved, but then...then I realized who it really was, and Aurora was the only one who had given it to me wholeheartedly." Swallowing, Severus dared to sneak a peek at Albus, who was grinning all the while. "What I said was true that night. I made a...grave mistake in giving Voldemort the prophecy. When the Dark Lord stated he was to kill Lily's son, I couldn't handle what I'd done..."

Growing quiet, Severus paced around the room, all the while Albus watched the boy from his peripherals. Moving until she was in the middle of the room, Aurora slowly turned her body, keeping a keen eye on Severus as he detangled his muddled thoughts. All through the conversation, her heart pounded tightly inside her chest, ready to burst at any given moment.

"All I had for Lily resurfaced with a sudden need to protect her from death caused by my crime. In the end, I was obsessed to fix the problem at hand, then...it was Aurora who was guiding me the entire time..." Stopping in the same spot along the wall, the memory Severus unaware Aurora had walked up to his side. "In my head, I sought you out to fix my guilty conscience; in my heart, Aurora steered me to do what was right and save those I could from my actions. She's the reason behind everything, Albus. The reason I still fight, for remaining a double agent and will pursue being a spy if the Dark Lord is to return...she's..."

Inhaling deeply, the Potions Master allowed his lips to lift slightly. "Aurora Warrington is the reason I feel, that I am worthy."

Albus was quiet, and then sighed. His shoes clicked across the stone as he patted the Potion Master's shoulder, both males visible to Aurora as she watched closely. "Since we're on a roll, answer me this: what about the day Aurora graduated? You suffered all year with Lily's death, blaming yourself for giving the prophecy to Voldemort. By the time she was finished with school, the Dark Lord had been defeated. What about then?"

"Aurora...deserved a better man, and at the time, I...was not worthy," the man answered in an instant. "I loved her, and though she was my driving force for me to fix my mistakes, I... couldn't bring her down the same path I took. She would've been in a life of secrecy, of pain and misery."

"Severus..." Albus mumbled, grasping the young wizard's shoulder. "So what was the change between ten years ago and now?"

"I-I..." His mouth opened and closed several times, conjuring an answer, though his tongue couldn't speak the words. "Aurora is a gift I cannot live without, Albus. For ten years I wished for nothing more than to simply be with her. There will always be a place in my heart for Lily, because she was the first to show me kindness. But Aurora...she is the reason I am still here."

Fighting the sting in her eyes, Aurora reached her hand out to stroke Severus' cheek. Her hand fell through his solid image, as she was reminded this was nothing more than a memory, yet it consoled her all the same. There were truths presented to her she held no knowledge of; not even aware how much she meant to Severus, even in the past.

"This remains between US, Albus," Severus sneered, not wanting his words to escape the office walls.

"Of course, my boy."

Memory Three

Her vision having gone black once again, Aurora slowly blinked her eyes open, rubbing her temples. Eyesight clearing, the witch was met with jars upon jars filled with various ingredients and plants of different colors. Surprised to find she was now in Severus' office, she wondered what this memory was to be about. So far, the past two had been in chronological order, despite being nearly a decade apart.

The door suddenly burst open, slamming against the stone wall, all the while Aurora jumping from fright. She could not be seen as Severus stormed past her invisible form, heatedly seating at his desk. Watching the man from afar, Aurora was curious; the man's scowl was deeper than she'd ever seen, probably not since the day they were reunited when she was asked to joined the Hogwarts faculty. Her hands taking hold of the desk's edge, the witch couldn't do anything other than stare at the wizard, who, even in his own memories, sent her heart ablaze. She didn't know how long time passed as she watched his quill scratch marks on numerous pieces of parchment.

"BLOODY HELL!"

Jumping once more, Aurora widened her eyes as Severus hastily stood, chair scratching against the stone. Grabbing the ink well off his desk, the wizard hurled the glass bottle against the wall, the item smashing into tiny pieces as black ink smeared against the stone. Gasping, the witch moved her gaze from the male to the wall, appalled by his sudden, and quite unexpected, actions.

Resuming his seat, Severus dropped his head into his hands. Groaning, his shoulders shook, causing Aurora alarm. Stepping closer, she ghosted her fingers over the skin of his hands, wishing the real Severus Snape was before her, so she could envelop his beautiful soul in a hug. The words needed to be shared between the two seemed to have lessened, as Aurora was beginning to understand why her wizard had cast such harsh words to her on his own birthday.

"Ah Severus, I'm glad I found you here."

Hands dropping, Severus obscured his façade for one of stoic nature, never revealing to the Headmaster of his outburst mere minutes prior. "Albus."

"I am sorry for the sudden drop, but there is something I must...of my." Having ignored the environment, Albus exited the doorway as he walked through the office, thinking of only the question he needed to ask the professor. The Headmaster was unaware of the Potions Master state of mind until he lifted his head, witnessing the stain of ink on the wall. "Now how did that happen," the man asked nonchalantly, already knowing the answer.

Having grabbed another ink well, Severus dabbed his quill before bringing forth another student's homework assignment needed grading, his attention fixated downward, overlooking the man entirely. "Make it quick Albus, I am in no mood."

"Hm, so it would seem. Though I am to inquire your restlessness has transpired for the past few months, no?"

Quill snapping in two as his fist clenched tightly Severus narrowed his eyebrows, angrily staring upwards at the man he served outside his teaching profession. "What is your purpose of being here, Albus?"

"Seeing as I came to ask you about Aurora, I'm now left to wonder if I must ask about you instead, my boy." The young wizard remained silent, diverting his eyes as he sat back in his chair. Gripping the bridge of his nose, his shoulders shook once more, with Aurora sitting upon the desk, heart breaking that she couldn't do anything other than watch and wait.

"You've noticed Aurora's change in behavior, is that what you're wanting to ask me about?"

"Indeed."

"And mine?"

"I wasn't going to bring that up," Albus snickered. Slapping her forehead, Aurora couldn't believe the Headmaster stated such a thing to Severus. The young man in question sneered, unable to not groan as he leaned further back, closing his eyes in discontent.

"I'm the reason," he whispered. "I ended things with Aurora a few months ago." Albus, who rarely allowed his emotions to overtake his neutral expression, stepped around the professor's desk and slapped him upside the head. Retracting his hand, Severus grabbed the side to be attacked, wincing at the power behind Albus' blow. "What the hell...?! Albus...you...!"

"Severus Snape..." Albus sighed, pushing his glasses higher upon his nose. "Oh dear, I feared something happened between you two. But this? My boy...what led you to do something so rash?"

Sighing heavily, Severus explained the heavy recollection. All the while, Albus stood calmly, hands folded in front as he stared upon the staff member and longtime friend. Sitting between the two men, Aurora found it difficult hearing Severus explain their altercation, as it brought the intense emotion's she held that night right back into her heart. Hand over her chest, Aurora knew a piece of her was still broken, shattered as cold tears fell down her cheeks. Allowing her reaction to pass, she listened. When Severus finished, the air was heavy, tense and uncomfortable. As it was just a memory, Aurora could discern the ambiance of the room; the tension was tight and full of sadness.

Albus sighing was the first audible sound once Severus had finished speaking. "This is where even you become mystifying, Severus. Just a year ago, I recall you explaining Aurora was your reason for living, and now...this? What on earth has happened between then and now?"

"It's...just as I explained last year when I left her ten years ago. She...Aurora deserves better than I. That woman deserves a man worthy of everything she is willing to give."

"Are you not allowed to be that recipient, Severus?"

"No..." his voice was lower than a whisper, the man seeping into his own damaged thoughts. "Your own words from last year stuck with me, Albus, when you mentioned the possibility of the Dark Lord discovering her. I haven't been able to banish such thoughts since; I've been plagued day in, day-out about her demise by his hand...all because of me...I will only bring her an early death! My duty as a double agent has not changed, yet if I am to keep her close, her life will know nothing but death and destruction, and that is something I will not force upon her."

"Severus, my boy..." Releasing another sigh, Albus shook his head. Thinking it was best to speak, he opened his mouth to do so, yet wasn't quite sure what should be said. Aurora, hugging her knees closely, kept her eyes closed, pained in listening to his reasoning.

"You did what you felt was right," Albus' voice echoed through the tense silence. "...but you should have discussed the matter with Aurora. She's known, from the beginning, your history; that you were a Death Eater and switched sides during the war. Aurora is a strong individual with a kindred spirit, being one of the smartest witches of our time. Don't you think she should've been part of this decision? To see whether she wanted to remain by your side after you discussed your fears, your concerns? Her answer would surprise you, Severus, I know this."

Surprised by his answer, Aurora smiled, knowing the Headmaster was right. It's true, she knew his history, in becoming a Death Eater and why he switched sides – apart from just learning the true reason for seeking Albus' help. Admiring the wizard sitting silently by her side, she beamed, feeling her cheeks burn as she gazed upon the gloom features of his depressive state. Slowly, she moved her hand over his as it rested on the armchair; despite falling straight through, the witch was happy.

Muttering to himself, Severus chose his words carefully. "I know."

"Hm? Is that so...well then. Excuse my choice of words, but your decision was idiotic." Aurora couldn't help but laugh at Albus' boldness.

"I am aware...but, I..." Holding a hand over his mouth, the young wizard squeezed his eyes shut, Aurora noticing the man allowed a single tear to fall without catching it. "She deserves so much more than what I can give her, and yet...Albus...I-I regret ever saying such words to her. Aurora has done nothing to deserve the way I treated her!" Removing himself from the chair, he cast himself aside to the wall with the ink stain, staring into its black abyss.

"Severus, I have no doubt you were wanting to protect Aurora from this world; you still are. The woman loves you, my boy. And I can see these last few months have placed a toll on you both. Oh...Severus?" Turning, Aurora gasped.

In front of another person, Severus Snape was crying.

Silent tears fell gently from his eyes as he stared on, not once backing down from the Headmaster taking in the man's distress. She had witnessed the man at different vulnerable points in his life. This, however, was unexpected, and the longer she watched, the more tears began to fall from her face.

"I love that woman, Albus. Everything about the woman that can be cherished, I love. Her laugh, the way she cares, that smile, her beautiful eyes, by god...The woman is troublesome at times and damn, she's too cheerful, but...She has a heart of gold and would do anything to help others. I don't know what she saw in me."

Smiling, it would seem the man's answers pleased Albus. "Do you love her?" he questioned.

"Yes, with all the magical power I have."

"Then prove it. Show me the love you have for her."

Without hesitation, Severus removed his wand, flicking the device in the air as he whispered, "Expecto Patronum." Through the wand's tip appeared wispy smoke, white in color as it pranced around before creating a design. Expecting to still see a doe, Albus was taken back when the spell twisted and shaped into a dragon, a mere image of Sapphire. Mouth falling open, Aurora couldn't believe her eyes. Severus' Patronus was a mere image of her own, in the shape of a dragon, just like hers!

"So, your words do hold truth. After all this time, it was really her." Albus watched the spell dance across the room, slowly dissipating before finally vanishing as it circled back towards the castor.

Wand held tightly, Severus nodded, having known the truth all along. "Always; it's always been Aurora Warrington."

Swirls of black and gray obstructed her vision as Aurora was dragged from the last memory back into the land of reality. Lifting her head from the basin of the pensieve, she gasped, back straightening, staring blankly forward of the professor's office. Looking down at her hands, the witch found she was smiling. She found herself confused, yet all the while grinning, her head finally taking a glance at the stoic expression on Severus; his eyes spoke volumes against the façade so many used to dictate his demeanor.

"I-I know we spoke the night before your birthday, but please, Aurora I must – ugh!" Unable to finish his sentence, Aurora wound her arms around Severus, her body having attacked his in a bear hug, arms coiling tightly around his neck.

"There are no words," she began, leaving light kisses on his bare neck. "Severus...believe me or not, but you are the most caring and loving wizard in this world."

Staring at the ceiling, the wizard could feel his cheeks burn, her words not exactly the ones he anticipated to hear. "A-Aurora..."

Dropping her feet to the ground, she held his heated cheeks in her hands. "I forgive you," she stated.

Eyebrows lifting, the wizard questioned if there was anything else she wanted to say. "You...you do?"

Tilting her head, Aurora couldn't resist but to smile; the act was contagious in the moment. "What, you didn't think I would?"

"...no. Ow!" Punching his arm with all her strength, the woman snickered. "I...might've deserved that," Severus admitted.

"Oh, hell yes you did. After all this...what we talked about before my birthday, this morning and now this? And you still didn't think I'd forgive you...?" The waterworks began once more, slowly forming in the corners of her eyes; though they weren't out of sadness on her part, but for the man in front of her. "Severus Tobias Snape..."

Bloody hell, Severus thought, his eye's widened as he watched the beautiful woman. She now had his full attention. My full name is only used when Aurora's sincere.

Whispering, she said, "You're too damn hard on yourself. Seeing your memories and hearing your words, I...I do believe you were wanting to protect me, thinking that if we weren't together, I couldn't be harmed from you being a double agent and the life it comes with. But we are in this together! So!" Cleaning her face, she smiled up and him, holding her closed fist in the air with the pinky sticking outward. "Promise me," she whispered. "Promise me that from now on, if you are ever concerned about me or us, that you come talk to me. You are not alone anymore, Severus, because I'll always be by your side. Always," she smiled.

"You want me to...pinky promise you...? What are we, children?" His voice was demeaning, though his smirk told the opposite.

"It's a special pinky promise; one my mother and I used to do. It's a promise that would last forever. Almost like...a Muggle version of the Unbreakable Vow." Aurora chuckled, knowing the two were in no way comparable, but that's how she felt.

"Hmm..." Lifting his hand, Severus tightened his fist, holding out his pinky towards hers. "What's so special about it?"

"Just watch me," she giggled. "But first. Severus, do you, from here on out, promise me that you will always be by my side, and I will do you the same. To share your concerns, to speak with me about any fears you have. If Voldemort is to return, I will fight alongside you. Ah!" Aurora cut off Severus as he opened his mouth to interrupt in placing a finger over his lips. "That's my choice, because I will not allow you to face the darkness all by yourself; no longer will you be alone. That is my promise."

Swallowing, Severus switched his gaze from her sparkling eyes to her outstretched hand. Even in that moment, the man wanted nothing more than to protect Aurora. She wanted to battle the darkness with him, and as much as it blessed his heart to hear such words, Severus desired to keep her safe in the light. He would never want his woman to become tainted as he had. Observing her face, the Potions Master was left with a choice: This is where he would reclaim his relationship with Aurora Warrington or he would destroy whatever pieces remained bare.

And so, the man wrapped his pinky around hers, tightening the small extremity, urging the woman to understand his plight to remain forever by her side.

"Always," he whispered, lowering his forehead against hers. "Everything you just said, I promise. Aurora, I...I am sorry for going about this entirely the wrong way. But that doesn't take away me doing everything in my power to protect from the evil in this world. You are stubborn, and I cannot stop if you're wanting to face the Dark Lord by my side – that conversation we'll save for later." Kissing her temple, the man retracted, staring loving into her blue eyes.

"Aurora, these past months have been fucking terrible and each day I regretted my choice. I honestly thought my decision was for the best in protecting you from myself. In the end...I cannot be without you by my side; I need to see you wake every morning. To feel your hand hold mine, the way you rake your fingers through my hair, your kisses on my cheek." Tensing and relaxing his stiff frame, Severus exhumed the courage needed. "Aurora Warrington...you are bloody perfect and though I may not be the greatest wizard for you, stay with me. With this promise, I will love you until my dying breath; I will fight for you and give the life you deserve."

"Any life, as long as I'm by your side, is what I deserve," she quickly stated, wanting her words to reach his ears.

"Then I can, and want, to promise you that. Will you allow me to, Aurora...?"

"Yes," she replied, smiling all the while. "Now, what makes our pinky promise special, is we kiss our fists." This caused Severus to raise an eyebrow.

"We...what?"

"Do just like me." Leaning forward, Aurora did as she stated. With their pinky's connected, she kissed the back of her balled up hand, waiting until he did the same. Frozen for several seconds, Severus wanted the woman to know his words were true, so he leaned forward as well, laying his lips onto his fist. Smacking her lips as she pulled away, the woman was happy. "See? That's our special pinky promise!" she giggled.

Feeling the corners of his lips rise into a smile, the man stepped closer to the woman before him. Noticing his presence, Aurora raised her head, loving the way his obsidian eyes spoke volumes when he wouldn't allow himself to speak his feelings. Mouth opening to bite the corner of her lip, Severus lowered his, capturing her entrance as his tongue invaded the moist cavern. Cupping her face, the wizard suckled her lips, tongue tracing its contour, ravishing the moans emitted from the depths of her throat. It was slow, it was passionate; more importantly, it was the two of them. Whether it be connected by a kiss or simply standing by one another, they were complete.

Whatever challenges they were to face, they would face the future together.

Taking his hand in hers, Aurora led her wizard to his desk and with a flick of the wrist, all items hovered and flew off to the shelves, revealing a clean space for her plan. Tracing random designs into his chest, she gently nudged Severus against his desk. Getting the hint, he hopped upon the wood, confused even when she had him lay flat on his back, however no complaint escaped from his lips.

"Aurora?" he asked, voice husky with sudden urgency to feel her skin.

Grinning wickedly, the female whispered a spell beneath her breath as she waved her hand over Severus' clothing; his frock ripped in two as she unbuttoned his pants, heaving both fabric and boxers down to his ankles. Humming in approval, her tongue darted forward, slick muscle meeting the skin of his hips, licking down to his now erect cock. Clasping his hands on the desk's edge, Severus' body tensed then relaxed, loving the way she teased, dropping a light kiss upon his head as she stood straight. Lifting his eyesight, the wizard observed his woman who slowly dragged the dress over her curves, revealing her infamous lacy panties and bra. Eyes never leaving his, her cheeks blushed, removing the last articles of clothing.

Standing stark-naked, Aurora grabbed the man's knees, hoisting herself over to cradle his waist, legs planted on the sides of his muscled frame.

"You know," her voice began, running her fingers over his stubbly chin. "Even though I was petrified, it felt like I was stuck in a really long dream..."

"Really. And what was it you dreamt of?"

Aurora's cheeks darkened, her gaze lifting away from his in embarrassment. "It was about us," she admitted. "It was one of our future. We were married and weren't teaching at Hogwarts anymore but had our own shop in Diagon Alley. And..."

"And...?" he mimicked, curious to know what she was hiding.

Kissing the tip of his nose, she ground her nether regions against his hips, her increasing wetness seeping through to coat his still erect member. "We had a family. I was holding a little girl and you had your hand on my growing belly." Shocked by her dream, Severus was stunned in thinking that was the life she had wanted.

Well, if the man had to be honest with himself, it was the life he had wanted too.

"Children, huh?"

"Mhm," she giggled, the noise soon turned as she exhaled a moan. Severus grasped her hips tightly, lifting the woman upwards as he aligned himself to her opening, sinking himself fully into her moist depth.

"Such a life with you Aurora, would be a blessing."

As Albus had gifted the students no finals due to how the school year manifested, the remaining weeks of classes flew by and were complete in the blink of an eye. Aurora stood in the Astronomy Tower, watching the students make their way towards Hogsmeade to board the train for their summer break. The school year had come and gone, and what a year it had been. Considering all that occurred, the woman was ready for a summer break as well, wanting to do nothing more than read her books, sleep and be with Severus.

As with the previous year, he not only invited the witch to spend the next two months with him, but welcomed her to the place she could also call home. Overjoyed, Aurora was still shocked one Severus Snape wanted her to live with him. Nevertheless, she agreed, eagerly waiting to go home with the loving man at her side.

Upon returning to their home, Severus grabbed Aurora, taking her directly to their shared room and consumed her throughout the remainder of the day and well into the evening. Seeking new positions, the man worshipped his goddess in the shower, against the bookcase's downstairs, the kitchen counter and even down into the hidden basement on his potions table. A carnal desire that couldn't be quenched, Aurora wasn't one to protest, giving the physical love from the vivacious man.

Having continually consumed the witch he loved, Severus knew the woman needed a break. The female could tire him out with a lustful need all on her own, yet he knew the physical toll it took on her lower body. Respecting her request to take a break, the two lay in tangled sheets, hair astray with purple love-bites caressing their bodies. Chest heaving and his cock sated for the time being, Severus rolled to his side, stroking Aurora's face, brushing away strands of hair. Humming with approval, she faced him, cuddling into the pillow as he kissed her forehead.

"Aurora, what do you think of this house?"

Not knowing what he meant, she asked, "What do you mean?"

"This is the house I grew up in as a child, inheriting it from my parents when they passed. Since I asked you to live here with me, I've been thinking that...we should change this place so it fits us."

"You mean...turn this house into our home? Make it however we want?" Nodding in response, the woman giggled, kissing his nose in return. "I love the idea. And the first thing I want to do is clean the backyard and plants flowers. Would that be ok...? My mother and I use to garden together all the time, I thought it'd be a nice way to – oh!"

Capturing her lips to silence the woman, Severus could do nothing except smirk. "You do what makes you feel at home. Create a garden, build Merlin a cat house, I don't care. Whatever makes my love happy."

And that's what she did. After resuming another loving session by mingling their bodies into one, they showered to start their day. Spending most of the time discussing what they should be taken care of first for the house, they decided the kitchen. Hours ticked by as they two worked to fix hanging cabinet doors, the leaky sink faucet, lights and painting the walls; all with magic, of course. When it was close to noon, Severus offered to start on lunch as Aurora stepped outside to see the damage for her personal project.

Opening the window curtain to view the backyard, Severus watched Aurora closely. Both Sapphire and Merlin has joined their mom outside, playing with her as she created a mental idea of what to do. The woman using magic to clean out the worst sections of the lawn, then falling to her knees and manually pulled weeds. Shaking his head, the man didn't understand her reasoning in doing certain aspects of life the Muggle way. Each time he had to remember she was raised fully in the Muggle world until joining the Wizard society when she was allowed entrance into Hogwarts.

Continuing in making their lunch, the wizard was nearly finished with their meal when he quickly peered through the window that desperately needed to be cleaned. Thinking she was still grasping weeds from the hardened soil, the man did a double-take, surprise to see the woman in the middle of the grass, eyes closed contently as she danced to the music of nature. Barefoot wearing shorts and a tank-top, he eyed her body moving around in circles all over the lawn. Her love for ballet coming through, she performed numerous tricks and techniques, leaving Severus questioning how she was able to move in such a manner.

He couldn't resist in watching Aurora, she was mesmerizing, someone who never existed in his life until they met during her First Year. Sure, he had thought Lily was the only one he needed, having pressured himself into believing she was the best he would ever have for a chance at love and happiness. Though he clung to Lilly for nearly a decade after her death, Severus knew. He knew Aurora had been the one for him since their eyes captured during the Sorting Ceremony. The deep depths of her eyes called to him.

And now, he had a chance at happiness. Having destroyed the potential of a life with Aurora the day she graduated and the night of his birthday, Severus wasn't about to deny his want to love and cherish the precious woman dancing in their backyard.

"Always, Aurora Warrington," Severus whispered to himself, still in awe of her majestic beauty. "Always will I love you and be the wizard you deserve."
