I have a timeline for what happened up to Logan and Rory meeting again, but I will not publish it yet. I still need to cover several events. I don't want to spoil the mystery. Review. Give feedback. Thanks
Chapter 3
September 14, 2024 Thursday.
"Mom, hurry up." Chloe hollered up the stairs. "Josey will be waiting on me."
"I'm coming," Rory said as she hurried down the stairs. She was dressed in tight black jeans and a school jersey. She's showing school spirit. Josey was dressed identical.
Rory has been giddy all day. She had butterflies in her stomach. She kept telling herself to calm down. This was just a 'family fun night'. They had them every quarter. Who was she fooling? She knew why she was so giddy. She is going to see Logan again. There her stomach goes. Turning flips.
Rory dropped Chloe off at the entrance, instructing her to go find her class' booth, as she went to park the car. She was getting out of her car when she saw Logan pull up. He was alone. He must have dropped his kids off at the entrance too.
"Hey," She said. Catching up to him getting out of his car.
"Hey yourself." Logan replied. "What's this all about? This 'family fun night'. I am new to this kind of stuff. You will have to show me around."
"That can be arranged." She said Rory had heard through the grapevine, aka Hartford gossip sociality, that Logan and his wife Pam were divorced. But that had been several years ago. She wondered if he had full custody of his kids. She couldn't imagine Tristin taking Chloe all the way to California. That is where Chloe said Josey had moved from.
They talked about the school, about the fundraiser as they walked to the gate. They stopped, both pulling out money to pay entrance fees. After they entered the gate, Rory directed him to Chloe and Josey's class booth. Amy was already there when they arrived.
"Oh, good, Rory, you can introduce Logan to everyone." Amy said, winking at Rory. Rory just shook her head. "Tristin will be late. He has a client meeting at 6, but he will be here after."
Chloe and Josey were walking around together, playing games and talking to their friends. Logan and Rory stood off to the side after she introduced him to several of the parents in the girls class.
"If you want. I can go with you to find the boys booth. Didn't you say you had two. Or maybe that was Chloe." She said,
"That will be great." He said and they started walking toward the older kids booths. "Yes, I have twin boys, 11 years old. Mike and Mitch. They are in the 5th grade."
"Mitch, as in Mitchum?" she asked. He started laughing.
"Well, Mitch as in Mitchell, but that was close enough and Mike as in Michael. That was Pam's dads name." He told her.
They walked some more til they came upon the boys booth. They stopped and Logan talked to some of the parents.
Logan was listening to one of the dads talk about baseball when Rory whispered to him. "I'm going back to the girls' booth. Come find me later." He nodded.
When Rory got back to the booth, the girls and Tristin were walking around playing games. She stayed at the booth with Amy to help run it. Everyone signs up for a time slot.
Rory only saw Logan in passing the rest of the night. Josey and Chloe introduced Mitch and Mike to Rory. Amy and Tristin left while Rory stayed to help clean.
On the way home Rory got a text from Logan. She waited until she was at home to answer.
"Chloe go get ready for bed while I take Sassy out for the night." Rory told her. When she and Sassy got outside, she called Logan.
"Hey, is this a bad time?" she asked.
"No, not at all. Josey is getting ready for bed and the boys are playing a video game." Logan told her.
"Good," She said. "Chloe is getting ready for bed and I am taking Sassy out for the last time tonight."
"Sassy?" he asked. Before she could answer she heard Josey tell him Sassy is Chloe's dog. Then she asked if he was talking to Rory? "Yes, go get in bed, I will be up in a minute to tuck you in." He told her.
"You can come tuck me in." Rory said not much over a whisper.
"Not tonight, but I will take a rain check." He said. She could feel her face turning red as well as the smirk on his face beaming through the phone.
"Oh, did I say that out loud." She asked,
"Don't play innocent. We both know you are not." He told her.
"Well, I guess it is time for me to go. I see Chloe looking for me. Bye Logan" She said and hung up the phone before he could say anything.
She immediately got a text. She refused to look at it until she got Chloe in the bed.
By the time she got in the shower, she had forgotten about the text. When she dried off and put on her PJ's she settled down in her reading chair, she took time to look at the text.
Yes it is from Logan sent 45 minutes ago. She opened the text:
L: Enjoyed spending time with you. Enjoyed talking with you on the phone. How about coffee tomorrow while the kids are in school?
R: Sounds good. Looks like I can make it about 1:00. Where? If you want to feed into the Hartford Society gossip we can meet at 'Goody's' on E 5th or you could come to me.?
L: Sounds good. See you then.
Instead of replying Rory just sent a 'like' on the text.
She put her phone down, opened her book and began to read. It didn't take long before she put the book down and went to bed. She couldn't concentrate on reading.
