She waited, just as she did for almost 200 years.
Thanks to her accursed nature of what she was.
Time stretched as the sound of running reminded her of that day.
How the facility staff ran when the first bomb hit.
How she could hear them crying, how she wished she could cry with them.
How they came to the same conclusion.
How the sound of the gun shots traveled through the facility.
Oh how she hates what she is now.
Perfect hearing, she remembers the sound of them bleeding through the holes in their heads.
Perfect sight, she remembers seeing hair grow in real time while the staff still lived.
She remembers the moment she heard the news. How she couldn't be a mother.
She remembers the moment she talked to the doctor. How she was dying.
She remembers the moment she agreed to that man's proposal. How she wouldn't feel a thing and she would be immortal.
She despises remembering it all.
She hates her perfect memory.
Her perfect hearing.
Her perfect sight.
She hates it all.
She would spend time watching her children, the only joy left in her life, if not for the brutes that raped and murdered them.
Now all that she had left was her little garden, her little paradise but even that was at threat now.
They were at her doors now, she heard the shuffling of weapons and the hydraulic fluid of Power Armor at the door.
Then the doors opened.
Soldiers in gear so familiar to her from her days as a human. American flag proudly painted on their shoulders.
Power Armor clad giants wielding heavy weapons, their eyes glowing an eerily yellow with an American flag on their chests.
"Area Clear!" yelled the closes soldier and lowered his rifle, the rest did the same.
In walked a man with greying hair, wearing some sort of coat. Under it she could see the outline of combat armor and on his hip rested a pistol she didn't recognize.
He stopped before her terminal, she inspected him.
She saw bead of sweat beginning to form, heard his hair grow, the way he blinked looked so slow.
She heard him inhale and saw him open his mouth to speak.
"Doctor Stone, I am Colonel Autumn US army, by the orders of the President we are to secure this facility. Please provide me with a Report on its current state"
Courage today, Victory Tomorrow!
He watched the terminal after saying his part. The lights on the console continued to flash but no response came from it. As the silence stretched into a minute he turned to the soldier on his right. "Go check the terminal, see if the speakers are broken" and as the soldier was starting to move the Doctor spoke.
A synthesized female voice came from every corner of the room "There was a time I would be happy to hear those words Colonel. There was a time where I would be happy to see soldiers, no, not soldiers. Anyone, I would be happy to see anyone walking these halls again."
As a Woman's face appeared on the Terminal Screen the voice came again, this time from the Terminal itself. "That time is long gone, replaced with nothing but melancholy and a wish for it all to end. Tell me Colonel, do you have children?"
Confused by the question Autumn thought, yes he had a son but how was that relevant to him receiving a run down on the state of the facility was beyond him. "Doctor I don't see how that is relevant to my question"
The face on the terminal glitched for a moment before returning to normal "So you do, then you know how it feels like to watch over your children, the pain you feel whenever something happens to them"
A moment of silence followed, yes he knew how it felt but as he wondered what it had to do with anything the Doctor continued "When I was put into this machine I started caring for the employees of this facility like I thought a mother would, in Life I couldn't be one so I hopped that atleast in my cursed existence I could be granted that much but life was always cruel. When they killed themselves because of what happened to the world I promised I would never forget them and protect their legacy that is the work this facility was intended to fufill."
"Colonel, I would ask you to end my existence so that I could go join my first and my most recent children who also were killed. However with how integral my systems are to the survival of this facility and as the last person that remembers my children I cannot let their legacy be forgotten."
A printer suddenly jumped to life in the corner of the Room startling everyone in it, the soldiers instantly raised their weapons before noticing what it was that scared them. "The Facility is fully operational Colonel I printed out a full report for you and your superiors. Know this Colonel, if your people want to use the Nursery you will have to do a few things for me and make a promise to me, for I will not let my children's legacy and hard work go to waste"
His face scrunched in a frown, of course things were going to easily until now, something had to happen. Sighing he looked at the woman's face again "And what would those Requests be good Doctor?"
