Bump tried, but keeping the Basilisk attack under wraps proved impossible. While some parents rushed to claim their children like the Triplet's, others came to provide support. It took hours, but when things calmed down, Bump was requested to come speak with the Star Council, something they almost never did, so he agreed to show up. When he arrived, Bump was met by an odd sight. Eight of the nine members, Boscha being the only one absent, Cat, Eda, Ibexcov, Victoria, and a girl Bump had never met before were all looking at him with resolute looks. Suddenly the door locked behind him, and before he could speak Luzara Clawthorne stood up with the help of Amity.

"Still looking a bit pale Luz began, "I'm sorry Principle Bump, but it's time for a talk. I along with the rest of my Court are taking over, but nothing needs to change. Stories of my defeat of Two the Basilisk have spread throughout the school, and after an emergency vote I have been named the new leader of this council. As such it is my responsibility to get this situation settled, but before I fill you in, you have a decision to make. Everyone in this room has already sworn an oath to join my Court of Light, and we would like to extend an offer to you. We wish you to join as the representative of Hexside's staff as a whole. Your undying devotion to the care and guidance of every student that enters these halls has earned you our respect and this offer, but I will not force you to bend as Belos has. You can leave now, but before the next week starts you will find yourself in an odd situation if you do."

"Unable to contain himself anymore, Bump growled, "This is a hostile takeover. A rebellion taking root in my school, and treason against the Emperor. Why would I ever agree to join you?"

Luz sighed, "Because Principle Bump, the Basilisk attack was the work of the Emperor." Bump paled in shock. "Vee, Masha, if you would." Nodding to Luz both basilisks shifted back to their natural forms, much to Bump's horror, but before he could attack he found himself held and immobile. "Give us a moment to explain Bumpy, before you freak out. These two are under my protection."

Bump glared, but listened as Vee started to explain first the basics of how Belos brought them back, and then what he did to them. Soon Bump stopped fighting back, and listened as Masha and Vee showed off scars and told him of the 'breeding program', something that sickened all in attendance. They held hands as they told Bump of how Masha was held hostage and punished so Vee would aid Two until Luz saved them both. By the end Bump was pale and only held up by those that were previously restraining him. Luz had a chair brought for him, as Vee made a request, "Bump sir, Masha and I would like to join Hexside in our witch disguises, but we don't want any secrets between us. Luz has already offered to help us stay fed so there is no danger to the school. Please sir, we want to learn how to use our magic just like everyone else."

Bump sighed, "You can guarantee the safety of the other students?" Luz nodded. "Can you even do magic on your own?"

Masha smiled, "Yup. My Veevee is a great healer, and I excel at oracle magic. It's how I survived with my sanity in check. I saw Luz coming to save us, and that hope kept me going." Hearing this, Luz blushed and Amity giggled. "Sir, there is so much we want to tell you, but only if you join will you get a full picture. All of this… it's only the start."

Bump seemed torn, but before he made a decision he asked, "You said nothing needed to change. Are you prepared to make an Everlasting Oath on that?"

Everyone looked horrified, but Luz smiled, "I would, but only as far as my authority can go. As long as I live, I intend to protect my home and my Court with my life. I can't guarantee that nobody will get hurt, because people already have been, but I am prepared to take responsibility for what will come. This place will always remain a bastion of safety and learning for as long as I am able, and once we succeed in removing Belos this school will return to the hands that can best care for it, whether that be you or your chosen successor. Would that be satisfactory?"

Luz held out her hand with the circle prepared, but Bump scoffed, and slapped it away, "That will not be necessary. I asked only 'if' you would be prepared to do it. My decision is made. What must I do to join?" Bump smiled nervously.

Luz laughed, "Nothing. All you have to do is say yes."

In an official voice Amity stated, "Hieronymus Bump, do you swear to serve The Court of Light and its Queen Luzura Noceda-Clawthorne, First of her name and Queen of Dragons to the best of your abilities?"

Bump snorted, "Yes."

"Then the oath is sealed as is decreed by the Old Laws. Welcome to the COL, sir. Now we have much to tell you," Stated Luz with a smile.

As everyone sat Luz started to reveal everything they knew and discovered including the truth about the brands, the presence of the Yokai Court (but not it's location), and Oscurenex's identity and her observations. By the end most of those present looked ill or angry, but Luz pushed on. "At the moment, the Beast keeping, and Construction tracks have already sworn their allegiance completely after the attack, with the Abominations, Plants, and Illusions tracks mostly joining as well. Most of the other teachers are on the edge, but Hermonculus will need to be retired. Not only is he a toxic individual, but he has been holding back his track for long enough. Principle Bump, would you be willing to take over until a new teacher can be found? The Star Counsel will be taking over handling the PCA, and my Court will be providing aid as well, so that should help relieve a bit of your stress." Bump looked overjoyed, whether it was getting back his old post or freedom from having to deal with the PCA was anyone's guess.

Suddenly Bo, Cat, and Skara's scrolls went off and they paled. In a small voice Bo spoke up, "We might have an issue. The Triplets are pissed, and Boscha says she's getting transferred to Glandus. What do we do about her seat?"

Luz sighed, "Barcus, would you feel comfortable changing to potions? I know it's your second choice, but…" Barcus barked excitedly and nodded. Luz laughed, "Cool, but that leaves Oracles open. Maybe Celine can step up since she was your number two. To be honest, I'm less worried about that seat considering most of the top rated members of your track have already joined us."

"We have another issue. I don't know if you've heard, but a transport wagon was found just outside Hexside's borders. From what you've said it should be the one you saved Masha from, but another group is claiming it was them. Luzura, what do you know of the Cult of the Dragon, and… did you really do what's being reported?" asked Bump, looking concerned.

Luz sighed, "I don't know anything about a cult, but as for what I did… I'll admit I might have gone a bit over the line a bit in my rage. When I left, the six lower scouts were battered, bleeding, and unconscious with claw wounds." Luz let her shoulders slump in shame as she admitted, "I think I might have crippled the two captains though, but beyond that it should all be things that can be healed eventually. I'm not proud of what I did, but… if you saw what they did to Masha I think you would understand. I didn't kill or maim anyone, but I won't lie… I considered it."

Bump paled, "Unfortunately someone else did. Eight scouts were found, and on top of what you described they were each missing a limb. Also the two Captains were missing all of their limbs, and all of the injuries were cauterized, so there is no healing any of them. I don't know who this cult is, but you should be wary. As the last remaining dragon they might see you as a prophet, false or otherwise, and they have already proven to be fine with mutilating others to send a message."

Everyone paused to allow that to sink in before Amity spoke up, "You have a point sir, but for now we have a school full of students to care for. We need to focus on finishing our takeover, and stabilizing our position. Once that is done we can focus on what to do next. Does that sound fair everyone?" Everyone gave a nod of agreement so Amity continued, "In that case, consider yourselves dismissing for now. You know your duties, look after your tracks, and I will send you a message when it's time for our next meeting. Until then, take care of yourself, and thank you for standing with us."

With a nod everyone started to exit the room until only Luz, Amity, and Bump remained. With a groan Bump drew his hands down his face, "So as wrong as this feels, I should probably let you know that your Aunt will be here soon. I can handle her, but… *sigh* given our new relationship, I thought it bore reporting. How do you think I should handle this? Obviously I can't reveal our Court's existence yet, but what should I tell her?"

Luz debated for a moment before a cheshire grin spread across her lips, "Since I am now the leader of the Star Council, it's not unreasonable for me to join you for this meeting as a representative of the student body, and as a witness she can't exactly discount what I have to say. Given my exhausted state, and her status as her apprentice Amity could join us too as a 'mediator' and my physical support. Let's just play this by ear, and see if we can't twist this to our advantage." Luz snickered, "I've been meaning to have a chat with my Aunt Lily anyway."

When Lilith arrived at Hexside she found it buzzing with activity, but it was also oddly controlled. She expected to find students crying or freaking out, and there were a few, but the majority were working calmly and diligently. This felt less like the aftermath of an attack on a school, and more like the results of a battle. Something felt off. Bump was a great principle and Lilith honestly held the man in high regard, but he'd never shown this level of control before. A part of Lilith doubted if even she could manage a situation like this even half as well, and that only made her more suspicious. When she got close enough to the main doors of the campus she found a girl with tanned skin, swampy green hair with blue tips, and fin-like ears waiting for her while wearing a Hexside healing track uniform. For a moment Lilith thought she saw fear in the girls yellow-gold pupils, but it was gone in seconds and she seemed utterly calm and relaxed the next moment.

With a bow the girl introduced herself, "Thank you for coming Ms. Lilith. My name is Victoria, or Vee if you'd be so kind. The bosses have asked me to escort you to the Auditorium, so if you will follow me please." Lilith nodded and Vee proceeded to lead the older witch along, but this seemed overly official for Bump's usual tastes.

When they arrived, Vee opened the door to allow Lilith to enter, but Vee made sure to never look inside, and once Lilith was inside she closed the doors behind her. Once Lilith got a look at what was inside she didn't blame her. The room was a wreck, but more than that there was a sizable burnt corpse of some kind of snake-like demon off to the side, and the air smelled strongly of charred flesh around the poor creature. Even more surprising were the trio awaiting her inside. Lilith immediately spotted Amity, though the green had been completely washed out of her hair, and Bump sitting slightly nervously, but the violet scaled and horned girl between them was a new face. What's more she gave off an aura of power, and control like she was the one in charge and not Bump.

Before she could ask, the mystery girl smiled in a way that immediately put her on guard. It was like looking at a younger version of her sister. Never letting the smile slip, the girl began to speak, "Of all the people that Belos could send, I'm actually glad it was you Lily."

Alarm's screamed inside Lilith's head at hearing that, but she kept herself controlled as she cleared her throat, "That's nice to hear, but I would appreciate it if you and Ms. Blight could leave the room. Principle Bump and I have a lot to discuss."

The girl continued to smile, but let out a small disappointed scoff as she replied, "Regretfully I can't do that. As the leader of the Star Council, and a witness to what happened, I'm afraid that you're stuck with me. I'm surprised you wouldn't want me to stay though… for other reasons."

Lilith was getting slightly annoyed, but she knew losing her temper wouldn't accomplish anything, so she attempted a different approach, "I understand your desire to help, but I'm sure Mr. Bump is more than capable of informing me of the situation. If I require your input I'll make sure to ask though. Who are you by the way?"

And as if waiting for this cue the girl stood and extended her wings fully, before folding them and giving a curt bow, "Why Aunty Lily, don't you recognize your niece?" With a look of faux surprise, Luz laughed, "Of course you wouldn't. I'm so sorry Lily. I forgot that we were never formally introduced. Well I guess we should fix that now. I am Luzura Noceda-Clawthorn, Daughter of the Owl Lady, Top Construction student, Head of the Star Council, and Reina de los draconis. It is a pleasure to finally make your acquaintance. Unfortunately there wouldn't be much of a point to this meeting if I left since I'm the only one who can answer all of your questions, Aunty Lily. As such, why don't we all get comfortable?" With an almost lazy flick of her wrist, Luz created three soft earthen chairs, two for them and one for Lilith, and to Lilith's continued horror she watched as Bump and Luz took a seat, but Amity choose to sit on Luz's lap looking like it was the most natural thing in the world.

For a moment Lilith just gaped, but after a moment she found herself sitting, if for no other reason than so she didn't fall over in shock. Seeing the distress in Lilith's eyes Amity simply smiled reassuringly, "What's wrong Ms. Lilith? Were you not aware of the fact we're together? If so, I'm sorry, but you've been very busy of late. I'm sure you heard of the attempt on my life last semester. Well this scaly Titaness is the one who saved me, and we've been together ever since more or less."

Lilith didn't know how to respond to that, so she just continued to gap as she said, "I hadn't actually, but… Amity… do you realize who that is? Don't your parents.."

Amity eyes darkened, "I do, and for the record I no longer answer to 'Blight', so I would appreciate it if you wouldn't bring my birthers into this. I have a new family, and they've shown me more love in the last week than they showed me in the last fourteen years. I'm sorry if this complicates our relationship, and I'll fully understand if you wish to no longer consider me your apprentice. I still respect you deeply, but I've found where I belong, and it's by my partner's side." Amity leaned in and gave Luz a kiss on the cheek, and for a moment they seemed lost in each other, but they quickly brought themselves back to focus, all-be it with some reluctance."

With a sigh Luz spoke up, "I'm guessing you're very busy, so let's get down to business. The burnt carcass behind you was a creature named Two, and she came in the guise of the school inspector." Lilith paled further at that news. "What's more I personally heard her talking with an accomplice, who is currently under my protection, about how they were supposed to devour our magic and spread as much fear as possible. For her protection I can't allow you to speak to her directly, but Principle Bump can confirm everything I'm about to tell you. She and her ilk are basilisks specifically revived for study and breeding for some reason that even she doesn't know. They have done this kind of thing before at other schools, but I managed to save my informant and cook Two personally when she attempted to drink my magic. If you wish to know who is responsible, I encourage you to look at Two's wrist. That should clarify a few things. Don't worry, we can wait. Go take a look."

Still struggling to regain her footing, Lilith strode over and took a look only to jump away as if she were struck. In a furious voice Lilith seethed, "Lies. This is all just lies. Edalyn put you up to this didn't she. There is no way any of this is real. I refuse to believe it."

Luz sighed, "I expected that response, but it's still sad to see. Ok Lilith, how about we try playing my version of Oscurenex's game?" Lilith narrowed her eyes at her 'niece', but allowed her to continue. "I'll make an oath that I'll only tell you the truth until we leave this room, but I'll maintain the ability to not answer if I choose. That way you'll know for a fact that everything I say is completely true without any games, or pranks. How does that sound? I'm sure you have questions that you're desperate to get answered."

Lilith snorted, "Fine. Since you're so willing to do so I'd have to be a fool not to accept." Bump and Amity looked at Luz in horror, but she just smiled like everything was going exactly to plan. Once the oath was completed, and Lilith sat back down she made a small groan as she said, "I suppose we should test this. What is your name?"

Luz scoffed, "Luzura Noceda-Clawthorn on the isles, and Lucia Noceda in the human realm. Though I've never gone by that name willingly."

"Are you really Edalyn's daughter?" sneered Lilith.

In an irritated tone Luz answered, "Legally yes, but not by blood no. I wish I was though."

"Are you holding Amity against her will, or manipulating her in any way? What are your plans for her?" Lilith asked, making Amity look at her enraged.

"Amity is free to go anywhere, anytime she wishes. As for manipulation… not that I'm aware of. I love her more than life itself, and someday I want her to be my wife. Maybe have kids too if she wants. I've thought about it a few times," Luz said through a thick blush, as she tried to look anywhere but toward her partner.

Feeling superior again, Lilith asked, "Are you aware of any crimes that need to be reported?"

Luz smirked, "A lot of them actually." Lilith smiled and gestured for Luz to continue, "I used to download music illegally in the human realm. I was physically abused by teachers and adults for multiple years during my human school days that I used to carry scares from. My mom occasionally runs an illegal stand because she files the paperwork, but the scouts in charge choose to burn it so that they have a chance to catch her. My girlfriend's mother forced her to wear a cursed oracle stone since she was seven so she could control and abuse her without anyone noticing. Amity's mentor, you, failed to notice said signs of abuse for years, and this neglect was only brought to an end when I crushed the stone in my claws after a witches duel. My mother technically kidnapped me when I first came to the isles because I asked her to. The Emperor is branding people with brands that cause people to randomly die when their clogged bile ducts leak something that causes organ failure. He's also guilty of creating, abusing, and forced breeding of basilisks, some as young as thirteen, and according to the one I spoke to he is using them like attack dogs and spies against his own people." Luz took a breath, but instead of continuing she quirked an eyebrow and said, "I believe that will be enough to start with."

Lilith looked shocked as she looked for confirmation from Amity, and only got a hate filled stare in return. Feeling guilty Lilith asked, "Why did you agree to tell me all this?"

Luz smiled, "Because beneath your blind devotion to someone I think is an insane murderous tyrant, you are still my Aunt and someone who wants to do the right thing. You have a better position and more time to investigate these things, and because I owe you for trying to look after the love of my life before I came here, even if you failed at it in the end. I don't intend to deceive or trick you at the moment. Whether my mom and I set off another paint bomb to give you rainbow hair is a later situation, but I know she only does it because she misses her best friend, and mom's a chaos monster sometimes. It's one of the reasons I love her."

Grabbing Luz's hand, Lilith ended the oath, "I'll look into your claims Luz, and… look after Edalyn and Amity for me. They… they both mean a lot to me."

Luz suddenly wrapped Lilith in a hug, "You know… I could invite you over for lunch one of these days so we can all just hang out. We could all put our positions aside for an hour or two and just be family, if you want. Despite everything, I'd kind of like to get to know you, not as a coven head, but as Lilith Clawthorn, my aunt. Let me know if you'd be interested, ok?"

Lilith sighed and hugged Luz back, "Maybe, Sweet flea. I'll think about it. Until then, try to stay outta trouble and… I have to get back to work."

Before she could leave though Bump spoke up, "Seeing as Two was impersonating the inspector, could we consider our inspection completed. I've been approached about a new program, and the grant we would receive would be perfect for getting it started."

Lilith looked at Bump quizzically, "What kind of program?"

Bump smiled, "A new exclusive track option, The Emperor's Track. The truly gifted students of Hexside such as Amity, Luz, and a number of others aren't being sufficiently challenged at the moment, and have a great deal more untapped potential. As such I intend to begin a special track option only available to the top five ranked students in each track. As long as they maintain their placement in their primary track, and they prove capable of handling the pressure they will be allowed to attend cross track classes. By doing so students with enough drive can receive the support they need in order to truly flourish and become future coven heads or join your coven. This way there is further incentive to reach the top five, and students like yourself or Edalyn were can truly explore what they are capable of without feeling like rebelling or going wild is their only option. In a way this is me finally hocus focusing on unlocking their true potential."

Lilith nodded after a moment to consider it, "I think this will prove a grand opportunity. Give me a few hours to get the paperwork complete. In fact, I might open my own purse in this case to further fund this program, and give it my personal stamp of approval, but if I do, I expect a monthly update on the progress of this 'Emperor's track'. If it proves harmful to the Isles or the students I will shut it down. Does that seem fair?"

Bump bowed, "Oh course Head Witch, and thank you for considering giving this experiment your personal support." With that Lilith turned around, and headed away.

With Lilith gone everyone relaxed, but Bump gave Luz a reproachful stare, "Luz that was both stupid and dangerous. Please never try something like that again."

Amity held Luz tightly, "I agree, Lu. That was terrifying. What would you have done if Ms. Lilith pressed you on the wrong things?"

Luz let out a small tired chuckle, "It actually wasn't as big a risk as you'd think. The oath only demanded honesty, but didn't compel me to answer. I could still choose what to say, or not say, and I could have always chosen silence. More importantly, Lily missed her chance to ever overpower me. I spar with my Mom from time to time, and since they're considered to be comparable in terms of ability, I'm not worried about having to fight her anymore. I'm not saying I could win, but I wouldn't lose, and while I distract her you all could get away safely. Which would be my main concern. Putting it simply my 'win condition' was easier in this situation, and hopefully this will make her doubt Belos more. In a perfect world she'd leave his side completely, and join us, but… *sigh* I don't know if she'll ever get to that point. I have to remain hopeful though. The day I give up on helping people is the day Belos wins."

Bump gave Luz a small smile, "You're still that same girl I met a month ago aren't you?"

Luz smiled back, "Yes and no. That girl is still a big part of who I am, but we all grow moment to moment, and after every challenge and choice. At my core I'm still Luz the Human, but that isn't all I am anymore, and I've embraced that. Isn't the point of growing up to get smarter, stronger, and more powerful? I think it is, but at the same time I refuse to let the world change me. I have new responsibilities, but I'm still always going to be that quirky girl who just wants to be a witch and help people."

Amity started to laugh, and gave Luz a kiss on her cheek, "And that's why I love her, and we each make sure that we never lose sight of that. I support her, and she supports me. Together we are an unstoppable team."

Bump sighed, "Well, we all have things to do, so I'll let you go… your highnesses." Bump laughed and walked away to check in with his other duties.

Thankfully Bump and the rest of the council could handle finishing up at Hexside, so Luz and Amity flew back to the Owl House (being carried while Luz flew was quickly becoming one of Amity's favorite things). When they arrived though they saw an odd sight, Hooty looked focused, or maybe constipated, while Eda, Camila, King, Vee, and Masha were working on moving things out of the basement. After a few greetings were exchanged Eda started to explain, "Well since these two don't have anywhere else to go, I've taken it upon myself to be their guardian until we manage to beat Belos, and they can safely find somewhere else to stay."

Luz laughed, "Mom, has anyone ever told you that you might have a weakness for strays. King, me, Amity, and now Vee and Masha, I'm starting to see a pattern."

Eda froze while Camila laughed as well, "I think I might count among that number as well."

Eda looked horrified, "Oh Titan… I've started an orphanage haven't I. I've gone… legit."

Hearing that just made everyone burst into laughter until Amity smiled and said, "The life of a Rebel leader is never easy Eda, but if it helps you would have gone straight eventually anyway, or were you going to start attacking us once we overthrow Belos? The way things are looking, someone is going to have to take Belos's place, and usually the strongest victor gets the seat. In which case, that would be Luz. Obviously we intend to set up a council to actually run everything, but would you really attack and undermine her instead of just talking to us? That doesn't sound very 'Queen Mother' of you."

Eda paused, "Oh spit, I hadn't thought about that… Nope, I abdicate the title to Cammy. When all this is over, I intend to return right back to the Owl House, and keep doing exactly what I've always done, scamming morons and having fun. Camila is the responsible one, and frankly… I probably won't be around much longer. Honestly I'm content with just being the wind beneath your wings, so that you all can soar into a better world, and I have been ever since the day of the accident. I've always wanted to go out swinging, and thanks to you, Owlet, I can make that a reality. Now, that's enough morbid talk, Hooty is working on expanding the basement for our new guests, and making sure we have extra space so that we can give temporary shelter to anyone else if we need to. Joke all ya like, but I'm done taking in strays for a while."

For the next couple hours the Owl House residents worked together to set up a comfortable space for Vee and Masha, and once that was done Camila asked Vee and Masha a question that had been bothering her, "You don't have to tell me if you don't want to, but can you tell me about yourselves?"

Vee sighed and looked at Masha who just smiled back, and nodded for Vee to take charge, "Well Ms. Noceda, that's kind of rough to do, and depending on what you want to know we might not be able to answer for sure."

Camila looked at them confused, so Masha took over, "Simply put, we've basically lived in cages all our lives, so we don't really know a lot about our interests, and the scouts didn't spend time teaching us much about our species either. We know a few things, like the fact that each of us represents a different sub-species of basilisk, but not much else. What we do know, we overheard from the scouts when they thought we weren't listening. For instance, I know I'm a Death-head Basilisk, which means that I have a natural affinity for oracle magic along with some connection to 'shadow magic', but I don't know what that is."

Vee sighed, "I'm a Greater basilisk. For most creatures, to my knowledge, that would usually mean that I should be bigger and stronger than other species, but with basilisks that isn't the case. In fact I shouldn't get anywhere near as big as Two did. My species' unique thing is supposed to be more intelligence and magical ability than most, but I don't really see any evidence of that. Maybe I'm defective because I hate actively draining magic, and that's why I stick to passive as much as I can."

Amity quirked an eyebrow, "I'm guessing what Two tried to do to Luz was active draining, but how is passive different?"

Masha smiled, "Ya, active draining is the thing that everyone thinks about when they think about Basilisks, but we can also passively absorb magic from our environment. It's really slow unless we can find a really potent source of magic to stick by, but it's usually enough to keep us going."

Vee looked nervous, "Actually if you remember when we met, Luz kept me close to her, and I slowly got less nervous… that's one of the reasons why. Between the feeling of safety and the potent magical aura you have I was actually in a pretty good position. Basically just being near you was enough to start filling me up, and if I'm right as long as we don't cast any really large spells we shouldn't need to actively drain if we just hang out for a few hours each day."

Masha sighed, "Unfortunately the only other thing we really know much about is our shape shifting, and that's actually really straight forward. Small changes require almost no magic, but the bigger the change the more it costs. As long as we stay roughly the same size, such as our witch disguises, they don't require much more than the most passive of drains to maintain them. Just being on the Isles is enough for that, but if we went to the human realm we would start having issues after a couple months, and that's if we don't cast any spells whatsoever. In that situation even a basic light spell could end up costing us days or weeks worth of magic."

Luz chuckled, "I actually might be able to help a bit since I spent a long time looking into every kind of scaled species when I was trying to figure out what I was becoming, and if you'd like we can start trying things to see what your personal tastes are too. For instance I like anime, spicy food, and all things magic, but my Mami likes sci-fi, and cheesy soap opera's."

Camila scoffed, "No recuerdo haberte oído quejarte de mis historias cuando Ricardo y Helena pasaban por ese triángulo amoroso con Fernado, mija. (I don't remember hearing you complain about my stories when Ricardo and Helena were going through that love triangle with Fernado, mija.) I'm sure Amity would enjoy my shows."

Luz blushed, "I didn't say I didn't find them interesting from time to time, mami! Anyway, did you two ever hear anyone talk about the theory that what a basilisk eats or their environment can change their characteristics? Supposedly your type of demon is supposed to be highly adaptable." Both basilisks shook their heads, so Luz continued, "Well from what I read most sub-species came about from environmental changes kind of like most species, but you just do so faster than most. Such as if there are only fish to eat you would adapt to be more resistant to the Boiling sea and gain the ability to breath underwater, or if you lived on the Knee you would become more resistant to the cold and thinner air. You follow?"

Masha shrugged and Vee's eyes sparkled, "That actually sounds cool. Maybe if we spend enough time casting regularly or not actively draining we can adapt to not need to drain as often. That would certainly be nice." Vee suddenly looked sad, "How are we going to explain our presence though? We talked it over, and we want to join your court and serve you, but without a cover story we can't really go anywhere without putting you at risk."

Everyone sat and thought for a bit, before Camila started to laugh, "Why not just have one of you say your Luz's cousin. I don't mind, and that helps explain why you just suddenly appeared. We could say you came with me when I moved from the human realm and I'm your legal guardian. If anyone asks your half witch, and my sister passed in childbirth so we don't know who your father is. Without a portal they can't check out your story, so between that and Luz's new status nobody should look too deeply at your story."

Eda smiled, "That could work, but what about the others story?"

Masha beamed, "I can just say I'm an orphan who fell in love with my precious VeeVee. I'm pretty good at thinking on my feet so I don't need much. Does that work for you sweetie?"

Vee looked overwhelmed, "I can do that, but are you sure you're comfortable with this? You barely know us."

Camila snorted before smiling warmly, "Of course I'm sure. From now on you are Victoria Noceda. After my husband passed it was only really Luz and I left, so I'd be thrilled to add an extra branch to the family tree. Manny and I always wanted a big family. Between you two, King, and Amity, I've managed to net a new pair of cute daughters, a fuzzy cutie, and a witty enby, so this works great for me. All I ask is that you stick by the family, and keep showing that Noceda spirit you displayed when you had the courage to get help. After all Noceda means 'who doesn't give up', so as long as you remember that, you'll always find a home with me."

Vee started to tear up until she felt a strong arm pull her close and feel a familiar warmth as Luz gave her a half hug, "Don't worry about it Prima. I'll give you a crash course tonight, and we'll go from there. You're safe now Vee, both of you are." With those words the dam broke and Vee cried happy tears into Luz's shoulder while Masha and Amity just watched their cute partners from close by, and felt reassured by each other just being there.

Over the next few days things began to fall into place, more or less. Vee joined the healing track and managed to find herself only behind Cat and Bo in terms of ranking. Much more surprising is the fact that Masha managed to score even with Celine, and after a short discussion was given the Top student seat (Celine didn't really want it anyway, and was only going to take it as a favor to Barcus). It took a few days, but the Emperor's track got approved, and it was decided that each track would have two rankings. A primary ranking, for determining who gets top student, and an overall ranking which would show where everyone stood in class comparatively.

*Note- the first track named is primary, and all others are secondary/cross. All ranks given are overall as of the end of the second week of the semester.

With that settled, Barcus duel tracked potions and oracles where he sat at the top of both rankings overall. Jerbo dueled plants (second place) and abominations (third place). Viney dueled Beast keeping (second place) and healing (top spot). Masha dueled oracles (second place) and Illusions (fifth place). Amity took abominations (first place), bard (third), and oracles (fourth place). Finally there was Luz who took constructions (first place), bard (fourth), beast keeping (top spot), healing (second place), Illusions (fourth place), but it was agreed that as soon as Luz found the Life rune she would join the plant, oracle, and abominations tracks since she didn't have strong enough magic to quality to join them until than. In order to remain in a track the cross trackers had to stay in the top ten overall, otherwise they would be removed from it for the semester.

Also by the end of the next week all of Hexside had joined the Court of Light with their council member acting as their representative. Not everything was looking up though. The PCA were demanding a meeting, and upon learning that they would have to deal with the Star Council… suffice it to say they were less than pleased. With Boscha being transferred to Glandus, the grudeby team was is shambles, and a very rough assembly had to be done in order to disperse a general warning about the dangers of the coven brands, but they made it through thanks in part to students like Gus who had experienced the loss of a parent to them.

With things starting to settle down, the first meeting of the Star Council was had during lunch on that Friday. Once everyone was situated the meeting got underway with Vee offering to take notes so that they could keep some kind of record in case an argument arose, and quickly a number of concerns were raised. Primary among them was what to do next, and how to expand their influence. Some like Willow, Gus, and Viney had already mostly convinced their parents to give their support, but others were still apprehensive to approach them about it. After a bit of arguing back and forth a plan was made. The Covention was coming up soon, and it would provide a perfect place to try and recruit most if not all of Bonesborough into giving their support, but it would have to be done carefully so as not to arouse too much suspicion from the Coven Heads that would no doubt attend as well.

With that settled the group mostly just got to know each other. Skara and the other ex-members of Boscha's crew came over to apologize to Willow and Gus again for their part in bullying them. The basilisks had a number of great and supportive conversations with the others, and while the majority were distracted Viney pulled Amity and Luz aside to ask a personal favor that made them both squee and promise to help in any way they could. By the end of that first meeting everyone was on their way to becoming friends, and a feeling of trust and purpose was fostered within all in attendance. There was still a lot to be done, but together they felt like they could make everything work out. They would free the Isles from Belos's control. They would protect their friends and families, and they would create a world where everyone would be free to be their best selves. There was still a little while before the Covention took place, and until then they would do everything in their power to only grow stronger together.

Author Notes: Yup got a few dragon chapters to release (how this became my most viewed story I'll never know, but thanks. You'll never know how much yall taking the time to read my mad ramblings means to me.)

On to the chapter- Yes, Luz did conquer Hexside on her first day of school, and it's purely Belos's fault. He sent Two and unified the school under Luz, so this is the natural next move for her. She intended to slowly build her court, but instead she saved dozens of lives… who then chose to follow her. In all honesty Luz didn't give Bump much of a choice, but she never lied to him. She would have preferred to get Bump's support before the majority of the school, but in this case her hands were tied by that point, and it's a mistake she's not intending to make again since she hates not giving someone a choice.

I hope people like what I did with Luz's first actions in charge of the school. Removing Hermonculus and freeing up Bump to take his place seemed like a no brainer. Also making the Star Council an 'intermediary' between the PCA and Bump is a great way to hide the fact that Bump is no longer in control of Hexside. With an entire team to handle the worst part of Bump's job, aka getting yelled at by entitled adults and exterior pressures, Bump is actually ecstatic to take on his new position. He's still principal, but now he only needs to worry about actually teaching and taking care of the school.

New wrinkle… Boscha is at Glandus now which will have it's own changes to the status quo, but at the same time with her out in Latissa that's one less bully to deal with in Luz's school, and let's be honest she would have betrayed Luz at the first opportunity. Why Glandus over St. Epiderm… grudeby. It's literally that simple.

I considered having Matt take Luz's construction seat, so she could take potions, but Barcus is the better answer, and he'd be thrilled to do it. Also as much as I wanted to give Celine some of the spotlight, I have a lot of characters to keep straight, so keeping her in the background was a decision I had to make despite her deserving so much more love than she gets.

So we finally get an answer on what Luz actually did, and as much as she wanted to do otherwise, she refrained from doing anything too unforgivable, and if not for the Cult all of the scouts would have gotten better eventually, even the crippled ones would have healed in six months to a year (factoring in physical therapy). Did she make them bleed as a punishment, ya, but there's a big difference between assault and attempted murder/maiming. She wanted to hurt them, not end them.

I loved writing the confrontation between Lilith and Luz so much. There was not a moment that Luz wasn't in control (except the Amity questions), and it was thrilling to allow that scene to come together. It was a great opportunity to see just how much Luz has learned from Oscurenex, and she even tricks Lilith into the same game, if in a slightly different set-up. Having Vee be the one to guide Lilith in is hilarious to me, because it's a great way to test how much Lilith knew about the Basilisks. If she had been in on it, then she would have recognized Vee, and they would have swept in to capture Lilith, but since she was none the wiser Luz knew that the meeting could go forward. Lilith immediately catching on subconsciously to Luz being in charge is a tiny admission that she isn't dumb, but at the same time she's playing checkers against Luz's chess. Every move Luz makes is a calculated thing to either keep Lilith off balance or slowly convince her to do what Luz wants. At the end Luz is actually trying to reach out an olive branch though, so… who knows.

Technically both Eda and Camila would be 'Queen Mothers' in this case, but let's not tell Eda that *wink*. For the record I want to credit OwlHouseAngel for the idea about basilisks adapting depending on what they eat, read their stuff, their amazing. I realize Masha/Vee's cover story is thin, but luckily it won't need to be very sturdy. Vee's Luz's sister/cousin, and Luz's word is law within the court. The leadership already knows who/what they are so they can help cover for them. Also yes both basilisks will eventually become personal secretaries and friends to one of the queens. I love the thought of each of them taking one side of Vesha each, and basically becoming their big sister is incredibly wholesome.

In the end everyone's specific placement in their track isn't super important for the story beyond determining 'seated' positions, and as a measure of how characters compare in universe, and as such I don't intend to refer to it often, but I'll update it periodically, and it might get more interesting after a certain point, but we'll see. As for why Vee was allowed into the Star meeting while not being on the council, it's a two fold thing. Firstly, she is Luz's aid, and as such Luz keeps her close outside of classes they don't share, and second as I said they needed someone to play recorder so all of the Stars could focus on representing their track, Vee was the easy answer. For now that's it. See ya next week for a very painful chapter. Shine on beautiful readers. Shine on.
