Chapter 5. Engulfed Into The Blackness.

I ran until I literally ran out of land, I was met with a large body of water and I knew I had no energy left to swim. If I got in the water I was dead I had too much weight on me to out swim them, if I stayed I'd have to fight and I had used a lot of my energy trying to outrun them in the last several hours that they had pursued me. I would have to fight and I would possibly die. Easily I decided I'd rather die fighting than drowning as a fleeing coward. Before I knew it they began to file one by one in front of me.

"Holy hell look at you! You're not such a little pup!" A young man in all black with golden hair and sunken dark crimson eyes said as he walked to pin me at the edge of the water.

As I was about to launch an attack a second bloodsucker appeared by his arms the rest followed quickly for me to create a plan of attack.

"Wow! He is beautiful! Almost hurts to kill him, even if he does smell like roadkill that's been sitting in the sun for a month." An even younger woman said as she clutched his arm. Mates, lovely.

Neither of them could be more than my own age. What a shame. No sympathy Leah… Not for them, never for them.

"Finally our "fun" has come to an end! What a hunt!" A dark skinned man said as he kissed the fourth Vampire, another young man who met up with him and wrapped himself in his partner's arms quickly.

"Now, now don't start without me!" This was the voice who called me " wolf filth". She was older than the rest which excused her late arrival I guess, their creator perhaps.

No time to try and figure them out, only time to attack, to fight, to try and survive them. I growled loudly but only managed to expose how out of breath I was.

"See now kids this is why I tell you to enjoy the hunt! Do you not feel superior?" The woman maniacally grinned through her freakishly perfect feature as she turned to them.

She was confident, I'd kill her first she'd think I was easy and that would be her undoing.

"Alright can we eat now?" The dark skinned man said, sounding annoyed. " We have an anniversary to celebrate after all, my love is two years old today and I have now had the pleasure of having my Jathe by my side for an entire year now." He said as he caressed the man's face.

Definitely newborns, this just gets better and better.

"Alright Talisman if you insist! Now Natlia tell me what do you think is the best way to disarm this massive wolf you've found us?" The women said, turning towards the man and women who were clearly mapping out a strategy to kill me in their heads already with their creepy wide eyes.

"How do we know it can't hear us Mum? I mean… It could swim away but it must know that if it tried to swim we'd kill it faster. An animal would run into the water and drown before it would let us catch up." Natlia said, puzzled as she continued to stare at me.

"Perhaps but it's worn out and that's all that matters. These Lycan have strange gifts from time to time but they can not beat us and I hear their blood is spectacular! Why else would you have caught its scent Natlia? Considering the size of him, we'll all be satisfied for a month!" The women responded joyfully, nearly jumping from excitement. "You have no idea how long I've been waiting to get my teeth into one of these! My time for redemption has finally come."

Rayland exchanged a unified glare with the dark skinned Vampire as if they were laughing at the woman's remark.

"Claudad, let's not play games, we don't need to learn how to hunt this beast, save your lessons for another day." The first man snapped back.

"Rayland! You are such an impatient Vampire. If you're going to be great you need to learn how to kill everything with precision and grace." Claudad said facing me now as she took a step closer, I readied my body for an attack.

"Whatever, let's go Natlia. How about we show, instead of tell? That good enough?" Rayland snapped back as they began to surround me.

I growled low, almost a cry but still I needed to get them to understand that I was dangerous. Tired or not. The girl leapt first onto my hind end and I easily shook her loose and I listened as her body thudded a giant the waters floor. I quickly braced for Rayland as he leaped at my head and attempted to get his arms around my neck, but as soon as I finally shook him off I felt a bite on my ankle and immediately winced in pain. That bitch had bitten me under the water! I kicked her off this time cracking her arm in the process and shuffled down the shore with a stumble.

"Good job Natlia! I knew you would know what to do!" Claudad clapped for her as she took her spot to begin her attack.

"Shake it off Nat, it'll heal before we're done with him." Rayland said, looking at the arm Natlia cradled now.

No… Are they going to weaken me with their venom? And then what? Drain me while I suffered from the pain? This wasn't going to end quickly. They were going to enjoy my death as I faded, writhing in pain until I was completely engulfed into the blackness that I could feel swelling from my ankle. I used a moment to remember Jacob's bite and the immense pain that ensued shortly thereafter. What could multiple bites do to a shapeshifter?

"Now we end our hunt my love. Follow Natlia's lead, first we numb her in pain with our venom, then we feed." Talisman said as he and his partner positioned themselves to pin me in a circle with the rest of their coven.

Surrounded, in the middle of nowhere I was going to die being attacked by a bunch of bloodsucking teenagers… great.

I fought them at every turn and yet every bite weakened me more but I never stopped moving to attack. Time passed, what felt like forever and the night was turning to day. They hadn't broken bones yet but my body felt as if it was swelling from the effects of their venom in my veins. I'm going to explode. My wolf was fading but I needed her strength. I held on as tightly as I could as my senses and ligaments failed me one by were laughing as they began to enjoy me in small stolen sips… I was losing… I was going to lose… I could feel myself slipping away. I don't think I'm standing anymore…

"Alright this has been fun but there's a small human town that will be waking up soon near the eastern shore of this water. Time to feed kids!" Cluadad said with a hiss.

Before they got to me everything began to go black… I was numbed by their venom completely. I couldn't tell if I was a wolf or in human form but I knew I was dying. As I continued to fade in and out I heard screaming faintly, water rustling and stones bursting. Then I died… I think? Can you think after you die?
