Backstory:
Rayland was a dotted on, spoiled young boy up until his world was changed forever. At the age of 10 he woke up from a coma only to find out from hospital staff that he had been in a coma for two years after getting into a car accident that his alcoholic father had caused. He didn't understand much of what the doctors were saying and insisted for weeks to see his mother and father. When the hospital finally got ahold of his mother they were shocked at her refusal to visit her son. They were simply told the hospital would be greatly compensated if they continued to give Rayland the best care which they did.
Raylan fought the hospital staff at every turn making him completely insufferable. After the young boy flew through dozens of teachers, caretakers and occupational therapists they decided to send Rayland to a children's care facility. Soon however even the new much more equipt care facility had begun to run out of options until one day a man named Talisman came for an interview. His kind nature and relationship with the head doctor quickly won him the position of caretaker and teacher for Rayland. Though he did not have a full education on occupational therapy the hospital told him if he could get along with Rayland they would pay him double and teach him as he went.
Rayland was impressed by Talisman's ability to always know what to say and how to make him feel comfortable and safe with every situation he was presented with. Rayland soon came to love Talisman and saw him as a father figure greatly because of the way he was able to help Rayland avoid any conflict that could have potentially arisen from his own defiant attitude towards others at his care facility. Talisman always visited him at the right times and knew what to do to make him feel happy on the days that he struggled.
They became extremely close and Talisman offered him a room in his home the afternoon of his 18th birthday after finding out that Rayland was able to leave the care facility then. Rayland accepted in pure joy and he began to count the minutes until he was able to leave and join his best friend in a new life outside of the facility walls and fell asleep that night with a smile on his face.
Talisman went home that night after helping a young women who had that same evening entered the care facility after a third failed suicide attempt. The girl was a regular problem starter and the staff often pushed Talisman to help her when she came to the facility. Talisman held her hand until she fell asleep, whispering as she drifted off about how she appreciated the way he protected her after a rude nurse yelled at her for spitting out her medication. However that night he found it increasingly impossible to sleep as he began to worry for his young friend's safety, feeling as if he had somehow missed something that night before he left. Though it was way past visiting hours at 2am he decided to go check on Ryland only to discover that he had supposedly checked himself out.
Rayland was furious with his mother once he understood that he could no longer know Talisman but she was able to calm him with the promise that if he would give her a year to show him the ways of a Vampire that she would find Talisman and turn him so they could be together forever. Rayland hated the thought of stealing Talisman's life but couldn't help but suffer at the thought of losing a second father. His depression led Claudad to turn Talisman only 6 months after her son as a gift for his half birthday. Rayland, again was furious with her once he realized she had given him no choice, but was overjoyed when Talisman quickly accepted his new life and was thrilled to be by Raylands side as Talisman saw him as the son he never had but had always wanted and would not have wanted to live in a world where he never knew what happened to Rayland or was unable to be apart of his life.
Note: Claudad hunts primarily animals and pushed her son initially to do the same in order to live among humans one day as she believed that would make forever more enjoyable. Rayland chooses to hunt humans in spite of his mother's wishes and harbors no desire to live amongst them.
