Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny and Seamus were sitting in the common room working on their Potions essays for Snape. The common room was particularly busy as their exams would be starting soon. There was a low hum of noise in the common room as people chatted with friends about essays and homework. Other people were practising wand movements and charms that they had learned throughout the year. People who hadn't been in the DA, were desperately trying to put the 'theory' that Umbridge had taught them into a practical application, so that they might actually be able to do the spells in their exams. The air was full of flashes and floating objects. There was the occasional squawk, cheep or scurrying of feet as people practised their Transfiguration, and of course, the occasional bang or puff of smoke when something went wrong. Neville was sitting nearby with Parvati and Lavender, running through both the practical and theory of all the different Charms they had learned over the years in case they came up in the O.W.L's. There was a loud bang behind them and Ron floated up out of his seat into the air, knocking over his ink bottle all over his nearly completed essay.
"Argh!" Ron yelled as he floated up towards the ceiling, only stopping when he bounced off the high ceiling, reminding Harry very strongly of the time he had accidentally inflated aunt Marge. Harry and Seamus burst out laughing as Ron floated there, occasionally bouncing off the ceiling to rise back up again. "Shut up you two," Ron glared at Harry and Seamus, while some first-year student apologised profusely for Ron's predicament. "A little help please?" Ron asked since his wand had fallen out of his pocket during the last bounce.
"I've got this," Seamus said, whipping out his wand and pointing it at Ron.
"What? No! Let Hermione…" Ron began but he was cut off by Seamus.
"Descendo."
"Argh!" Ron yelled again as he plummeted to the floor, landing hard on the table where they had been working on their essays, which broke under the heavy onslaught of Ron. Quills, essays and ink went flying everywhere. Parchment was torn and ink stained everything. Ron's robes were a magical rainbow of various ink colours.
"Sorry, Ron," Seamus apologised, helping Ron to his feet while Harry was doubled over with laughter.
Later that evening when they were having dinner in the Great Hall, Seamus was animatedly retelling the tale for the benefit of those who had been elsewhere.
"And then there's a bang and the next thing Ron's going 'Argh!' and off he goes, floating up to the ceiling. So, me and Harry are laughing ourselves silly while Ron's busy bouncing about the ceiling. Some first-year squirt is saying sorry as Ron's wand drops to the floor. So, I pull me wand out like this 'I've got this' I say then 'Descendo' and Ron…"
"Argh!" There were several screams throughout the Great Hall. People were putting their arms above their heads to protect themselves as all the floating candles that lit the Great Hall came plummeting down all around them. Tablecloths and robes were catching on fire and utter pandemonium broke out. Older students and teachers were shooting jets of water out their wands to put out the little fires that had sprung up everywhere, while Dumbledore waved his wand restoring the candles back to their proper place floating above all the tables. Another wave of his wand and they were reignited. Professor McGonagall came hurrying over to the Gryffindor table.
"Mr Finnigan, why is it when there's a fire or an explosion, it is always you?"
"Natural talent," Seamus replied. "Don't want you to get bored now."
Harry and Ron tried to stifle their laughter, but even Professor McGonagall had a small smile playing at the corner of her mouth.
