The semblance is pretty simple, but it doesn't come with a manual, using it is instinctive, but it'll be a while before Jaune knows exactly what his semblance is doing, the only thing he his 100% aware of is the shared senses.
I won't be spelling it out, until Jaune himself figures it out.
What was already shown, however, is that Maggie-Jaune has no control over the semblance, so while Maggie's input will be useful, Jaune himself will have to understand it.
Frank opened the door and laughter could be heard. Nicholas had told a joke, that Chloe found hilarious. They were all still a bit tipsy. Frank looked around and whistled.
"Place looks better than when we left!" Frank laughed.
"Jaune's used to a lot of sisters. I'm sure Maggie was easy to clean up after, for him." Juniper walked into the living room.
"The real question is if he managed to put her to bed." Nicholas chuckled.
Chloe went to Maggie's room, and found her tucked in and sleeping, her teddy bear right beside her, tucked in and 'sleeping' on a different pillow. The girl's mother smiled, and left the room quietly.
"All's good here." Chloe reported back.
"And is Jaune sleep?" Frank asked. Nicholas shut the door of the guest room.
"Yep. I figure its time we join them, busy day tomorrow." Nicholas yawned.
This caused a chain reaction of yawns and soft laughs.
"Go go Maggie! Go go Maggie!" Chloe was cheering, as Maggie played whac a mole.
Jaune was nearby, eating a corn-dog with potato chunks. Frank sipped his drink and turned towards Jaune.
"Enjoy this vacation, Jaune. I have it on good authority that your father plans to work you to death as soon as y'all return home." Frank turned his head back towards Maggie, who was still playing whac a mole.
"Yeah, this is nice, but I'm eager to get back to training." Jaune bit into his corn-dog.
"As long as you keep the right mental, I'm sure you'll make a great huntsman. If for no other reason than I've never seen so much aura on a person your age. Just don't let that go to your head." Frank warned.
"I'll be sure not to." Jaune said, nodding.
The day was over, but Nicholas's family wouldn't be leaving until Sunday afternoon. The Arc family was in the living room, watching a mystery film.
"Dr. Mason is definitely guilty!" Maggie declared, face covered in confidence.
"Oh yeah? What makes you so sure?" Frank asked. "Seems a bit too soon to mark him the villain." He laughed.
"I'm so so sure! He can't maintain eye contact for long, and his story isn't really adding up." Maggie continued to talk.
Jaune tried to keep a straight face the whole time.
'Is he an idiot? Or is being a little girl's body messing with his head?' Jaune screamed in his mind.
Every encouragement and "You're so bright, Maggie", made Jaune's heart skip a beat. At first, Jaune thought the Maggie-Him was trying to get them caught, but when he thought about it more, it made sense.
There are real, immutable differences between the brains of the young and the not so young. Maggie...wasn't fully capable of playing an act, not only because Jaune himself was a horrible actor, but because her brain wasn't developed enough to really pull it off. Maggie wanted to talk, so she did.
"Do you like the movie, Jaune?" Maggie asked him. If they ignored each other, that would make things weird.
"Oh yeah, I think the Dr. Burning is my favorite character." Jaune responded, nervously eating a bag of chips.
He couldn't wait to get back home, things would be really weird for his Maggie-self, but at least he wouldn't have to be around for it.
Using his semblance while his dad, mom, and himself were gaining distance on a bullhead back to Ansel, revealed something Jaune already sort of expected.
"We should test the distance for our mental connection thing." Maggie said, while away from the adults.
Jaune shook his head, " If we both have a weird reaction at the same time, they might get suspicious. I'll test it when we're leaving."
The cost of sharing his vision, thoughts, and other senses with Maggie via his semblance, grew the further away they got.
Maggie's POV
Yeah, this sucked. This had to be the worse semblance ever. The only partial upside, is that I don't seem to have the semblance, it's like I'm just a victim.
"Ok, before you turn it off, let me remind you to be careful, and maybe avoid touching anyone else, for a while." Maggie thought out to Jaune.
"Yeah, I know, I know. Make sure to use auntie's scroll to talk to as many of the girls as you can, so it isn't weird for us to chat to. Just, don't let anything slip, ok?" Jaune responded. This form of communication was mentally exhausting. I could feel his worry, I could hear it. We were 'shouting' at each other for clarity, but we were locked into each others' minds with his semblance active, which meant I couldn't hide how annoyed he just made me. So I might as well project it more clearly.
"They're my sisters too, I WANT to read from them what they're up to, I'm not going to forget."
Jaune's POV
This mental loop was nothing I'd miss.
"Yeah, my bad, turning it off now." I turn off my semblance before fully understanding whatever Maggie's mental response was.
There's nothing either of us can do about this to make it easier. And neither of us want to deal with the consequences of getting help. I'll get treated like a fool or criminal, and He'll be treated the same or worse. Maybe abandoned. I can understand the frustration. And I really need to stick to referring to Maggie as a she.
I feel like it's important to mention now, given the age gap, Maggie isn't going to be directly involved in Jaune's life, not in person. Jaune is the main character, but Maggie is the secondary focus. They will have different lives. When Jaune finally becomes a beacon student, Maggie will still be years away from being a teenager.
Translation- Maggie is the 'tragic' slice of life. Jaune will be the action & adventure.
