I do not own D&D but did come up with this original creature. It's similarity to a creature I found out about after I made it is a tad scary though.

I have plenty of original stories on Amazon. Look up my books.

The Pink Dragons

By, Clayton Overstreet

"Did I say no purpled dragons?"

-Mad Madam Mim

One begins to doubt the existence of coincidence when you have made a deal with and actual god. So when three pink dragons met at the same well coming from different directions it was hard, as they paused to examine one another, not to suspect the fickle hand of fate. Destiny was their business after all. As was working to shape it.

A human would have never seen them as they came to the well at the crossroads. One was invisible, another appeared to be a large horse, and the third a moving bush with an inordinate amount of shadows and flowers. Illusions of course. One of their little gifts. Each had been given the chance to pick three illusions for when they needed to hide and while it was not ideal, a roaming bush if sighted could be considered a lot less threatening than even a small dragon. Humans and other races of similar size tended to be put out by even small predators like sharks or tigers.

To one another the dragons were apparent as was their allegiances. The female was chromatic, organic through and through. The two males were obviously metallic and gem types. All were pink, but the variations that identified them as working for one dragon god or another. Still while they were each of a different branch their jobs were essentially the same and each was happy to see another dragon. Nearly ecstatic. So after a bit of wariness they went to the well and the glittering male happily drew buckets of water for the other two before drinking his own. They were too smart for that setup not to work.

"I take it you have finished your duties, for the moment," the gem dragon said in draconic, the only language they could speak. The other two nodded.

The female said, "I just spent eighty years playing nursemaid to a red dragon brat.

The little monster's parents were slain for… really good reasons. As one would expect. Still Tiamat is fond of the family line. They tend to go above and beyond what dragons generally do. It cuts their lives a bit short making a spectacle of themselves, but they do make an impression. And their offspring managed to escape the heroes sent to kill them. Lucky little toad."

The metal-tinted male said, "I used to be a green dragon. Maybe I've heard of them."

"The Western Wayland Mountains."

"Ah, the Blood Scale Clan. They do indeed make an impression. Usually by burning down cities that get too close to those mountains. I grew up over in the swamplands of Moor after my parents took over an abandoned black dragon lair."

"You switched sides?" The gem dragon asked.

"And what made you wish to seek out Sadiron?"

There was a sigh. "I am afraid I was not terribly bright before. I was a half goblin, my mother part of a small village of surviving females who were ravaged by a bugbear. Most of my half siblings were killed just for being what we were and we were none too bright. While hiding out in the woods I saw a dragon and ever since I was entranced by such majestic obviously superior creatures. After a lifetime knowing I was a mistake. I was an adult when I met a monk who studied dragon style martial arts and he told me of a ritual. By then I was just smart enough to know how dumb I was so naturally I sought out the dragons with the most powerful brains. To become one of them. Having my intellect boosted has done nothing to deter my decision."

The female snorted. "I was always just enamored with their power and beauty. My parents were a pair of sorcerers. Human, despite the opinion of the local villagers. Lord and Lady Dark Castle. Also known as the butchers of Bayside. They taught me a lot and I always admired Tiamat. Turning into a dragon with magic though was beyond them, let alone a fifteen-year-old girl, so I made a deal instead. Since dear mother and father are long dead one of old age and the other of and angry mob, I'm sure I made the proper choice too." She looked at the metal counterpart. "Why did you switch to the goody-goodies?"

How else does one rebel against evil parents?" He asked. "And when one does you certainly feel no guilt about doing so. To be born with my destiny decided by my coloring? Grow old and amass a horde that will be looted as soon as I died? No thank you. Oh I longed for the power of the metallic types, but overall as you say I wished I could do something that would not have the world spitting my name and after the transformation things seemed so much clearer. I have completed ten missions for Bahamut and intend to do more, until I have a horde of good deeds rather than gold."

"Ten? I just finished my first and it was a pain. I want to finish my last two and become a blue dragon in a nice glass castle and whatever you say a huge pile of gold and gems looted from the locals sounds nice to me. Minions to do my bidding and time to indulge."

"I have only one more and I will become an amethyst beast," their glittering associate said. "I wish to learn more than most of my kind ever dreamed. A dragon's lifetime to study and understand the worlds. Maybe even find some way to move to one of the higher planes and help my kind evolve."

"Well as a former human I should warn you, higher intellect never made us all that much better. Personally I found my father's goblin minions much more palatable to spend time with than most humans."

"If only I had been assigned to you," the other male said. "I'd have rescued you from your evil parents and brought you to good people who might have given you better outlooks on the world."

"Thanks, but I'm fine," she said. "Is that what you do? Save slaves and find good homes for orphans? Sounds boring."

"Not at all. There is some of that and I am by no means some gold dragon, seeing not but light and hope. I follow copper dragon sensibilities and enjoy myself too. Why I spent fifteen years guarding a young demigod, playing his faithful pet, like a big scaled dog. They were just kids in over their heads facing things far beyond them. I did most of the work while making them think it was all them. Quite the challenge until I was able to get them properly trained up so I could move on without fear they would stab each other the moment my back was turned. A decade later they're Heart of Fire, the Fire Temple's greatest band of heroes."

She nodded. "Impressive, I've heard of them. The fire priest is a half red dragon half drow. Another goody-goody like you despite that. He has a sister who is a dark witch known as the succubus of the south because she sort of looks like one and keeps a harem of stolen women. I lost my virginity to her. They also have a brother called Boomer who took after his father, an alchemist. He is evil, but lawful and an explosive expert and runs temporary teams of adventures for treasure when he is not dealing drugs and fireworks."

"Half drow and half red dragon? How did that happen?" The other asked, genuinely curious. A born half-breed that was no surprise.

"Apparently their father was a disreputable alchemist who was hired by a nasty dwarf with a crush on an elf. The dwarf wanted a love potion that would bridge the species gap. Only when the drow showed up to deliver it, the village was under attack by a red dragon. She saw him and it was dinner at first sight, until he threw the only weapon he had."

"Ah," the other two said, understanding. It was a toss up if love spells were more dangerous to keep going or break. With a love sick red dragon that just ravaged a town the answer was obvious.

"Naturally he can never undo it. She keeps him in her cave as a concubine. I guess that's where the daughter got it. They have had thirteen kids and only three of them are still alive. The elder ran away to become a priest and the daughter stole some black magic books from her mother's horde and fled too. Boomer survived by becoming almost psychotically polite, particularly to females. He learned from his dad and developed a pyromaniac streak. They also all have pheromones that make them very popular with females of all species and hated by males whose women they steal. At least for one night stands. The guy's hyper fertility though means he and whatever adventurers he's with need to keep moving though."

"Interesting but…"

"Right, I was going to tell you. He's kind of brilliant. Normally he goes to a place and blows it up from the outside. Then just sifts through the rubble for treasure. When that doesn't work… well he's humanoid and scaled and maybe ten feet tall. Thick scales. He actually loves to blow himself up sine he's fireproof. I think because that is the fastest he can move. Otherwise he sort of lumbers. But he also looks like a demon more or less.

"So while his adventurers infiltrate keeps and castles and dungeons he uses a piece of chalk to draw a mystic looking circle and just sits in it, pretending to be a trapped demon until some monster or minion gets close. Then he rips their head off."

The other two were not evil, but even they were impressed. "I can't imagine it works on real wizards."

"No, for them he makes these puzzle boxes with small gems inside that have just a little magic. A gift for the great wizard from the forces of darkness. If they are smart enough to solve the puzzle. Of course the puzzle is an ex[plosive," she finished with a smirk. "A face full of shrapnel will ruin most wizards' day. And he always tells me villains always have the best treasures and killing them never pisses off anybody else."

"Good advice," the former goblin said. "Evil people usually kill more bad people than good. The average shop keep is below their notice. People hire assassins to kill evil dictators and landlords."

"Is that your plan, when you have your castle?"

She nodded. "Why rob tax collectors and merchants? Bandits steal everything for you and when you kill them people reward you. I'm, evil, not stupid. And if they think they can steal my treasure they will come to me. I'm thinking of hiring Boomer to set up a few traps and help me set up the tower. I understand he's an expert in architecture and can bring down a whole palace with some strategically placed bombs. And he knows more about fire than an elemental. Surely he can set up some alchemy glass that will last and be explosive proof." She sighed. "That's the plan anyway. Sadly if my next two jobs are as tough as the last he might not be alive to do it. Who knows what his lifespan is?"

"Try mine," the sparkling pink dragon said. "My charges always need the finest training. Decades of schooling so they can become epitomes of their craft. Two hundred years teaching a giant to become the world's finest crafter of jewelry and it would have taken half the time except she wanted to make weapons. Just hammers and clubs, not even swords. Family tradition." He shook his head. "Meanwhile I've got a duty to enforce the gem god's will and turn her into a legend."

She groaned. "Two hundred years. Yikes. Thankfully even dragons do not stay babies that long and they learn fast. The worst part is I'm supposed to suck up because I set them up for greatness and I have to remember that I need to be on their good side later. A hundred years old already and I have to play nursemaid to a treacherous snake. At least you are almost done. One more and you are out. I have two to go if Tiamat thinks I did well. Next up I am supposed to seduce a gold dragon princess."

The metallic male sniffed. "Good luck. They can read minds and see the future and are rarely corruptible at all."

She shrugged. "That's the job. I have some ideas. Aren't you going to try to stop me, hero?"

He shook his head. "I doubt you will succeed. Though I once raised a Mindflayer into a famous and beloved hero. So anything is possible. But currently my god has me set on helping a boy who is destined to find a cure for lycanthropy and vampirism."

"Really?" the other male asked. "How?"

He shrugged. "No idea. But given that he is currently completely ordinary and all the were-creatures out there keeping him alive long enough to teach him enough magic to fulfill his destiny should keep me pretty busy. I'm supposed to go to some place called Raven-something and help him overthrow some sorcerer named Strahd. Shouldn't be too hard since his father who Strahd killed was a wizard and gave him a thirty foot iron golem for his tenth birthday."

"Between the two of you my job to help a simple farm girl become a skilled demonologist seems almost simple," the other said. "All she wants to do is marry the boy next door even though he is an open philanderer. I think her willingness to be nothing when she has the brains to be a great wizard who can red the fabric of reality and traverse worlds is what offends my lord the most. It's like watching someone burn a book or destroy a priceless statue."

The others nodded. People always thought that metallic and chromatic dragons were opposites, but they were still dragons. A miser, a criminal, a priest, and a farmer were all natural enemies too. But set their village aflame and they would all likely come together. Immortal gods for a species like dragons had even more in common, an old enemy possibly closer than a friend. If even dragons that hated each other could not find common cause they would not have been as widespread as they were.

Besides anyone who became a pink dragon held a love for the species that transcended type or ideas like good and evil. For them it was all about being legendary. Everyone had their preference, but in the end all dragons were… or had the potential to be amazing. And those that became dragons through hard work, prayer, and sacrifice had a self imposed duty to become the creatures they imagined them to be. Not all were awesome, some little more than fat wyrms lying about running out a clock that seemed to last centuries for no reason. Hidden away until they died unmourned or unknown and never missed until someone found their bones among a treasure cave.

A dragon falls in a bottomless lair and nobody knows it is there. Did it ever live at all? Meanwhile even the vilest beast gave rise to a hero, the one who eventually slew it and inspired generations to come. Because the hero was only as good as his villain. One day this female and the pink metal dragon might kill each other the same way. As they were or maybe they would both become true dragons. Either way one a great hero, slaying an evil monster or a creature of evil snuffing out the light of a hero to be known as a terrible.. . no, not "demon." That was too small a word. Monster? Closer.

DRAGON! Perfect.

In the meantime a traveling trickster hero who saves countless lives and makes the world a better place. Or the terror of the desert, that makes people flinch as the shadow of a passing vulture passes overhear because it might he her, venturing from the distant glass tower shining on the desert horizon. Or the gem dragon sitting in a library in another dimension learning the secrets of the gods themselves, eventually using them to catapult goblins above other species the way humans were raised from troglodytes by their own gods. They sat mountains are the bones of huge dragons. That might be true, but they say it because real dragons build worlds. Often on the bones of their enemies.

It certainly made the three of them feel good. Chosen by the gods to live their dreams or nightmares. As they went on their way, each following the call to their own destiny, no matter what their complaints they all enjoyed it as they walked using powerful muscles and claws that cut the turf. Someone important waiting up ahead. A few stories shared riding on their wings and tails like a cloak.

We are dragons, the three thought simultaneously sharing the same warm feeling in their chests that had nothing to do with their breath weapons. While up above three opposing gods watched as they headed for their next adventures and smiled too.

The Beginning

Recently the dragon gods Tiamat (chromatic), Bahamut (Metallic), and Sardior (gem) convened to discuss the large number of prayers from lesser creatures asking/praying to become dragons. This is a process that can be achieved through various spells, but also by exposure to dragons or by killing dragons and stealing their power. To protect their own the gods agreed to give those who were honest in their prayers a test of sorts to earn their place among dragons. In addition they wanted to give those dragons who want eternal youth a way to get it without changing species/becoming undead and making various unsavory deals or wanting to switch dragon types so as not to be limited by the clan they were born into (not all red dragons are evil and not all gold pious, or they are and do not like it seeing it more as OCD than their own choice).

As an alternative the three gods came up with a new Draconic Form: The Pink Dragon.

A creature that wishes to become a dragon one thousand times (can be expedited with help of priests/rituals so as not to annoy the god in question) can be, at the god's discretion, transformed into a pink dragon roughly the size of a large horse. The actual form (such as bat-like wings versus rib-wings and other physiological differences) based on their image of a dragon. Those empowered by Bahamut usually appear more metallic, those by Sardior glitter like sequins, while chromatic dragons are merely pink/organic.

Note: The god in question can also smite/curse you for bothering them or being less than 100% on wanting to be a dragon or being too picky.

The new type of dragon flies by inflating an inner helium gas bag, like a balloon, rather than a standard dragon, giving them some leeway in learning to fly while dealing with new instincts. Similar to being in a low gravity environment. Slightly slower and less agile in flight than average dragons, but also able to carry more weight (Up to 1/3 their body weight) in the air, though slowing down considerably the more weight added. To inflate they must use one breath weapon charge, though it remains available until they deflate by expelling the gas. However once the gas is expelled they cannot re-inflate until they recharge. Their bodies are rubbery and bones bend but do not break, but can be cut if their scales are pierced. When inflate they float and cannot move fast except by flying. Their wings are smaller than a normal dragon's and can allow them to glide, but not fly unless inflated. While inflated they are extremely bouncy and fly in the opposite direction when hit. They can also be bounced upon without damage or discomfort when partially inflated.

Unlike normal dragons Pink Dragons do not have standard lairs or hordes. They can claim a living space, but are bonded instead to a chosen "child" picked by their god whom they are responsible for protecting and teaching based on that god's teachings or the kind of dragon they want to be, acting as they think such a dragon should and seeing if it meets with their god's approval. Generally they are given the chance to prove their method and ideals work by being bonded a creature chosen by said god for a great destiny or, possibly, to torment the pink dragon in question. Both if possible.

Pink Dragon

(AKA Wish Dragon, Candy Dragon, Nanny Dragon, Etcetera)

Armor Class 19 (natural)

Hit Points 80+ (8d10 + 17)

Speed Walking 30 ft Flying 40 ft (Small wings flies by inflating internal helium bladder)

Size: Slightly larger than a Wyrmling

Str 22 Dex 11 Con 20 Int 17 Wis 16 Cha 18

Saving Throws Dex +3 Con +2 Wis +3 Cha +3

Damage Immunity: Concussive Force (bludgeoning attacks/explosive force bounce off). Poison immunity. Half Damage from Fire. Immune to transformation spells.

Senses Blindsight 12 ft Darkvision 60 ft Passive Perception 15

Languages Speaks only Draconic. Can understand others, but except for their charge, cannot speak or write any non-dragon language.

Challenge 8

Amphibious (Can breathe air & water)

Cannot swim if internal gas bladder is inflated and will immediately float to the surface and then into the sky.

Special Weaknesses: Only partially resistant to fire, internally vulnerable, particularly if expelling breath weapons which are lit on fire before leaving their mouth. When inflated scales are easier to puncture in between where skin stretches. If punctured cannot fly until healed.

Also non-dragons or other dragons often have issues with someone who is potentially powerful taking their cues/being raised by/or being indebted to a dragon/a specific and will act to save/steal the child away. The child themselves may also not like the idea regardless of divine edicts. The pink dragon cannot physically take on another form or speak any language but draconian, making it hard to hide their identity.

Actions

Multiattack: One bite, two claws, one blunt force with wing or tail

Bite: Melee Weapon Attack +9 to hit Reach 8 ft

Claw: Melee Weapon Attack +9 to hit Reach 5 ft

Tail/Wing: Club/Blunt Force/Bludgeoning Attack + 15 to hit Reach 10 ft

Breath Weapons: 60 ft range

Helium Gas Cloud: 5 recharges 60 ft cone (Unable to fly if used up) Highly flammable. Cuts off oxygen, makes voices squeaky. Flammable/Explosive. Toxic. Must use to fly or be expelled to stop flying.

Taffy: Recharges 5 A pink sticky strong tar-like goop in a 20 foot line, edible and healthy with all necessary nutrients, tastes sweet/fruity, that quickly solidifies like rubber in air. Dissolves on contact with any liquid in 1d4 turns. Highly flammable. (Dissolved in water chokes water breathers in 30 feet for 2 turns +/- current flow)

Combo Breath Weapon

Taffy Bubbles: Recharges 5 but uses both gas and taffy, depleting both simultaneously. If the bubbles pop on contact in first ten seconds they splatter all over whatever touches them and anything in five feet. Explodes on contact with fire (1d4 damage to anything in within 5 feet). After ten seconds solidifies into bouncing/floating balls that deliver bludgeoning attacks at various speeds. 1d4 damage +2 if hit after being swatted into someone by a powerful blow or ricocheted.

Lacks Frightful Presence (due to high charisma and pink coloring. Considered "cute")

Gains Celestial Authority: Recognized as an emissary of their gods dragons will generally aid or avoid a pink dragon and their charge. Though obviously opposing dragon types may choose to or actively be sent to interfere with them as well ranging from corrupting to killing them.

Familial Bonding: A young creature (either human level intellect or special abilities) is given a mark by the dragon god who transformed the pink dragon in the first place that connects them to the dragon in a manner similar to a wizard's familiar allowing the dragon to empathically feel their emotions/pain and allows the creature to summon them, making them appear within 100 ft either by being in severe distress or intentionally calling the dragon's name once per day. (Does not give direct control over the pink dragon.) If bonded creature dies so does the pink dragon. Does not kill the bonded creature if the dragon dies. Bond dissolves if the creature is taken in and cared for by someone else who genuinely cares for them or if they reach adulthood by their society's standards. Bonded creature can understand the dragon as if speaking their language. The bond is chosen by the god and may be at some random worthy person or can be passed down through a family line, particularly if they are related to that god or someone the deity favors or wants to punish with a babysitter.

Innate Spells/Abilities:

While being a dragon should, in the opinion of the gods, allow one to handle any situation, the deities are not unaware that caring for a weaker creature, "chosen ones" especially, often requires other skills and abilities. Even the gods fear parenthood.

1 Wish Grant (Other Person Only! The pink dragon cannot grant its own wish, since they are already being granted the ultimate wish by their god. The dragon can choose if they grant a single magical wish, on par with their god's level regardless of the pink dragon's stats, to their charge if they choose to and can determine how it is granted based on their interpretation of the words used. If done so to the letter it dissolves the bond provided the wish is fully granted and the dragon can move on to their next charge or Draconic Resurrection immediately, since it is expected that getting such a wish should, with proper thought, set up the recipient for life and if it does not it is their own fault, much like being turned into a dragon should solve any mundane problems. The dragon should be very careful which wish is granted, how, and if they should do it at all. If the wish is only partially granted by magic, but incomplete, the dragon must finish it through other means. For example if their charge wishes for a princess to fall in love and marry them, but is prevented from doing so by outside forces, like an unwilling parent or wizard who breaks the spell or the unexpected death of the princess, the dragon must do anything otherwise in their power to make the wish come true and could be stuck doing so until death or longer to their god's satisfaction. The dragon cannot actually tell their charge that granting them a wish an option until the charge makes the wish on their own, though they can ask them slyly "What would you wish for?" However if the wish granted is superfluous or just an excuse to ditch their current charge, then the pink dragon may face their god's wrath for dereliction of duty. Exceptions may be made if the charge is less than worthy and despite their dragon guardian's best efforts, deserves to be screwed over, but it is usually best not to chance it while under orders.)

3 Permanent Illusions Of Their Choice Capable of turning on and off at will without cost (Example: Fire, Invisibility, and An Altered Appearance)

Size Change (Fine to gigantic for up to 3 hours a day)

Teleport to Bonded Creature's Side Once Per Day (Can be activated by them or their charge. Can appear within 100 ft. of target.)

Eternal Youth (Until no longer a pink dragon they do not age)

Regeneration (Self Healing and healing their charge unless killed. 1d6+4 hit points per turn.)

Draconic Reincarnation or reversion to Original Form (granted after 3 successful missions for their god or the equivalent)

Cannot actually be transformed into other species, by themselves or others, due to their dragon form being a gift from the gods.

Draconic Reincarnation: A pink dragon is given three charges, exceptional creatures chosen by the gods to be raised and guided by said god's beliefs to adulthood. Demigod children, chosen ones, or just exceptional individuals (though if they have displeased the god the child in question may just be exceptionally annoying). If their charge dies before adulthood the pink dragon follows them and goes to the afterlife reserved for those who fail their god. Once the charge reaches a healthy independent adult form by their culture's standard (such as a certain age, finding a mate, being crowned king/queen, or merely maturing to the god's liking) or is taken in by an acceptable surrogate parent in the pink dragon's face, the mark binding them vanishing and appearing on another child somewhere else. If they succeed in this task three times their god appears in a dream. If displeased with the resulting adult creature which can be traced back to the pink dragon's actions they may kill or curse the pink dragon or return them to their original form. If the children grow up well, by their standards, the god will give the pink dragon the option of becoming a wyrmling of a dragon type of their choosing (even making them a new species if they did extremely well and the god approves of the dragon's design) living out their life as that dragon from youth to death and whatever comes after, return them to their original form (often a choice if the pink dragon falls in love with their charge upon them becoming suitable adults and wants to be with that person or if they just find that being a dragon was not for them), or choose to continue being an eternally youthful pink dragon for and additional three charges potentially in an eternal cycle. Though of course the god may reward them in other ways, but generally speaking being made into a dragon, as well as serving them, is considered its own reward by all dragon gods.

A god may also choose to reincarnate them in exchange for other services or actions outside the contract or just one well done mission at their discretion if the pink dragon impresses them or manages to please them in other ways.

Note: Other gods have similar deals with their followers offering alternate forms and powers for service.

Bonded Creature:

A god is not going to give someone the gift of being a dragon for nothing. People who want to be a dragon without putting in the time and effort to train as a mage, adventure through dark pits to find a medallion, or slay a beast and bathe in their blood might be worthy, but how do you know? It's like knowing if someone who grew up alone on a desert island would be a hero or a serial killer. You never know until they get the chance. So in the hope that somebody who truly believes they might make a good dragon is right or just because the gods need something done and would rather not do it themselves or spend actual resources like a competent dragon, on the project, they are sometimes willing to give a schmuck a chance. Even total losers sometimes get lucky. Similar to parents who hire someone else to change their baby's diaper.

Stats on a pink dragon's charges vary but only apply to children of the species. They are chosen by a dragon god the child has the god's mark appear on their body. They may be unaware it is even there or what it means, but they are usually chosen because they have some exceptional quality that caught the god's eye.

When chosen by Tiamat, goddess of evil/chaotic dragons, they are usually exceptional dragons from family lines who have earned her favor through great and terrible deeds, beyond sitting around collecting vast hordes. Often orphaned either because their species does not actively care for their young or because their parents were killed by fully justified heroes/angry mobs/wizards/or smitten by other gods for doing evil things. The pink dragon cared for them through their wyrmling and young stages, teaching them to be proper dragons (though for example a lesson might include dumping a baby sapphire dragon into a bulette pit and only intervening in the fight if the dragon is in danger of imminent death) in the mind of the kind of person who would pray to Tiamat to become a dragon. This usually entails setting said dragon up to, when grown, rule a land as an unquestioned king. Ditto for a few other potential evil overlords, dark wizards, warlords, monsters, and such of other species Tiamat might take an interest in grooming similarly.

They usually do this by working as a sort of starter minion, teaching their charge and then when the dragon gains experience obeying them as a minion and helping them build power until the bond severs and they move on to their next charge. Though ideally if possible they explain why they must move on and help their charges work together or setting them up as potential rivals, often based on orders/visions from Tiamat. Forming dark alliances or just letting the strongest come out on top.

However the smarter types tend to work more as advisors, regents, or grand viziers. Often preferring to rule in their young charge's stead until they are ready (which they put off as long as possible). Alternatively they raise their young charge to depend on them, revere them, or at least appreciate all their hard work as a parent/caretaker. Something they capitalize on later after their Draconic Reincarnation. Coming back in their new form (or their original) and taking up a high place in the grateful overlord's court/army or at least living unmolested in their lands. Many however being evil dragons do try taking over using any weaknesses in their former charge to their advantage to control or destroy them. Generally if they succeed Tiamat approves.

Bahamut meanwhile likes to send his pink dragons out on rescue missions. They usually find abused children of a good nature and retrieve them from abusive or neglectful guardians and take them to s new home where they can be loved and properly cared for, or actively raised to adulthood by the pink dragon. They generally prefer to work from the shadows unseen and without acknowledgement by their charge if possible, acting directly only when absolutely necessary so the child grown up without relying on them too heavily or being indebted to them.

Alternatively they might act less intelligent than they are in much the same way Bahamut sometimes joins adventurers under the guise of a scatterbrained wizard. Pretending to be animal companions of bestial intellect they follow their chosen one masquerading as a pet. The charge may or may not be aware of the subterfuge. The dragon then acts as if it is merely helping out like a well trained animal, arranging accidents for bigger things like knocking over just the right book or tripping an escaping enemy with their tail making it look like a lucky mistake. Many a villain's last words have been, "I would have gotten away with it if it were not for you meddling teen adventurers… and that dragon!" Though in this case the dragon often is enabling a dangerous lifestyle for their charge, since a real parent would rather they be safe than chasing some destiny that could get them tragically killed.

Ideally the dragon is trying to train the child to handle such things on their own so that hey can handle it themselves when the dragon is gone. This is usually reserved for kids with special abilities or destinies who cannot avoid being in danger just by being left with a loving family. Dark wizards might want to steal their innate powers, use them as spell ingredients, or they might be demigods or possibly from a family that pissed off a demon or another god and is a target, or possibly some lost heir to a throne or otherwise destined/prophesized to do something amazing that others might want to stop, steal, or otherwise interfere with. People might just hate them for what they are. (Think Merlin and King Arthur.) Their job is not to force it, but make sure the kid can handle it when the time comes.

Rarely they will take the direct approach and train the kid openly and directly, but prefer not to if they can possibly avoid it if only because they have other people to help and do not want to hold their hands their entire lives or be a crutch. If the pink dragon wants to be taking care of something forever they will Reincarnate and get a horde.

Sardior the gem dragon god prefers to sculpt people like polishing a jewel. His pink dragons find people with potential and both teach them and give them resources they might never otherwise have. A farm boy who would otherwise never touch a musical instrument who gets the training and equipment to become a virtuoso. A girl whose family plans to marry her off when she could be a great scholar. Somebody with all the advantages of life who is just too lazy to make something of themselves.

The pink dragon is instructed by their god what to teach them and then snatches them away regardless of their feelings on the matter and takes them to be trained in what Sardior determines is their destiny. Whether they do so is up to them and once they have been instructed they can be taken home or to a place of their own choosing where they can choose to either use what they have been taught or not. This is often for example where stories of kidnapped princesses come from as the dragon tries to make a spoiled brat into a conscientious ruler who can think and do something beyond popping out babies, because their actions affect other people as well as themselves. A boy might want to be a goatherd, but if he has the potential to become a great heeler or stop an army of demons from destroying the world, or even just train the person who does, well then goat herding is just going to have to wait.

The charge will often buck the system, since if they wanted to make the world a better place they would do it on their own or they might not believe in themselves or come from a culture that is against what they have been chosen to do, but that's why they were sent a dragon guardian/tutor. Whether they choose to actually do it is of course free will once they become adults, but Sardior wants them to be capable of doing it. Not allowing outside forces or a lack of options to make the choice for them. Admittedly the world needs a good goatherds or chamber pot emptier and the pink dragon is doing just that, but if they are content allowing circumstances, such as those they were born into, to dictate their lives the charge can hardly complain when a dragon does the same thing. If they have been chosen it's because they have potential and Sardior sees leaving them in place as being on par with using gold nuggets and diamonds in a fish tank because they technically qualify as "gravel". A geode is just a rock until you crack it open and polish it up.

The pink dragon may teach the child themselves, but mostly they just steal them away and dump them off with another skilled person (monk, wizard, jeweler, warrior, scholar...) who is also under orders from the god to teach them or who will do so for pay. Whether they want to or not They then tend to stick around watching or even learning themselves since the new caretaker is possibly being punished or instructed to and maybe cannot be totally trusted to put the charge first. Like a genius alchemist who would rather be turning led into gold or resurrecting flesh golems than teaching a child who cannot even read basic chemistry and might need a little draconic encouragement (threats and bribes) to do so properly. However if in order to make a breakthrough in their discipline and the charge need a magic sword, rare ingredient, knowledge their teacher does not have, or anything else to bring out their full potential the dragon may leave to retrieve it. Tending to only hand it over once they are sure their charge can use it correctly.

Often such dragons are responsible for their charges far longer than the others, not considering them to be "adults" until they are fully trained and responsible with it. They may even have to wait until their destiny/choice is fully achieved whether it is defeating a vampire lord, inventing new machines, curing a disease, or wandering off to be a goatherd again, albeit one who can build a functioning computer in a medieval society.

Ultimately while the charge is important it is really about exposing the pink dragon to such things so that they can be worthy of the gift of becoming a dragon. Sardior has no intention of going through the trouble of personally turning a Halfling or a human or a dryad into a dragon if they are not going to do something amazing with it.

Author's Note

Okay, this just got creepy. See I wrote this after reading Fizban's Dragon Treasury. I came up with the pink dragon idea after dismissing purple and thinking the evil and mischievous dragon gods would consider the silly color a test. After al when people imagine being a dragon "silly" is not usually part of the description. Purple was too regal.

It was only after I wrote this that I looked up pink dragons online to see if anyone else had done it officially.

Imagine my surprise when I found that there was a brief reference to a very rare pink variant of the dragon in D&D. Even more shocking they even had the bubble breath weapon. The original was more soap bubbles that stung eyes than edible candy bumper bubbles and sticky taffy/helium balloons, but the parallel is interesting. Even the lack of a dragon's usual frightful presence was mentioned

I actually worship Tiamat, the actual Babylonian goddess not the fictional five headed dragon queen, so maybe it was divine inspiration, but still a bit disconcerting how close this came to an original I never saw before.
