Elena was helping Jenna get everything set up for tonight's family dinner. Tonight, Jenna and Alaric had invited the entire family for a family dinner, which they try to do every month. Tonight, both Elena's and Jeremy's parents were coming. Of course, Jeremy would be there too; Elena just hoped that he didn't bring Anna. Although Anna was pregnant with Jeremy's child, that didn't mean she was part of their family. In Elena's opinion, Anna would never be family, especially after what she did to Bonnie.
Elena hopes that Bonnie will consider coming to dinner tonight. She knows Bonnie would prefer to stay home and avoid Jeremy altogether, and Elena can understand why. However, Elena is still hoping that Bonnie will come anyway.
" How's everything going in here?" Jenna asked as she came back into the kitchen.
Elena turned off the stove as she wipes her hands off with the kitchen towel." Everything is going prefect. Dinner will be ready soon, and everyone should be arriving soon." She answered as she took a sip of her wine.
"Good, because Ric and I just got done setting up the dining room table. Do you know if Bonnie is coming tonight?"
Elena shrugged her shoulders. "I have no idea. I asked her about it yesterday, and she said she'd think about it. But I haven't heard from her all day." Elena had tried calling Bonnie since this morning, but it had gone straight to voicemail instead. So Elena hoped everything was okay.
Knock, knock. Is anyone home? Elena heard her father's voice coming from the living room.
"We're in here, Dad," Elena called out from the kitchen. Turning around, Elena saw both of her parents walking through the kitchen. "Here, Mom, let me help you with that," Elena offered as she noticed her mother carrying a huge platter of dessert.
"Thanks, sweetheart," Miranda said as Elena took the dessert from her hands and set it on the kitchen counter. "Where are Stefan and my grandkids?" she asked, expecting to see her grandkids running around or at least sitting in the living room watching cartoons.
They should be here soon. I came a little early to help Aunt Jenna and Uncle Ric set everything up for dinner. Elena answered as she pulled the lid off to see what her parents had brought. "Peach cobbler?" She asked with a smile.
"Only the best for Mystic Falls," Grayson answered with a grin.
"Hey guys," Jeremy suddenly said as he walked through the kitchen. Following behind him was Anna. "Hey Mom," Jeremy greeted Miranda, kissing her cheek before saying hi to his dad.
Jeremy, can I talk to you for a moment? Elena asked as she walked out of the kitchen and into the living room. Elena couldn't believe that Jeremy had actually brought her.
" What's wrong?" Jeremy asked as he joined Elena in the living room.
"What's wrong? You invited Anna to the family dinner. That's what's wrong. What the hell were you thinking by bringing her here?" Elena asked as she crossed her arms over her chest.
" I was thinking Anna didn't deserve to stay home tonight. She's pregnant with my child and there's nothing I can do to change that. So you might as well just accept it because she's apart of this family now." Jeremy answered as he turned around and walked away as he was already done with this conversation.
Elena sighed heavily when she heard the door open. Looking over her shoulder, her smile grew wide as soon as she saw Stefan and their kids walking into the house. "I'm so glad you guys are here," she said as she walked up to Stefan and gave him a quick kiss on the lips. Their kids ran past them into the kitchen to say hello to their grandparents.
"Everything okay?" Stefan asked with concern as he gently rubbed Elena's arm.
" Jeremy invited Anna." Elena answered with a sigh as she heard a knock." I'll get it." She said as she turned around and reached for the doorknob. Pulling the door open Elena gasps in surprise as she noticed Bonnie and Damon." Hey you guys are here." She said nervously as she looks back at Stefan for a moment and then back at them.
"Yeah, I wasn't sure if I really wanted to come, to be honest. But Damon sort of talked me into coming. Are you going to let us in?" Bonnie asked with a chuckle as she waited for Elena to invite them in.
" Of course, sorry come in guys." Elena answered as she moved to the side and let them walk in. Closing the door behind them." Um Bon. There's something I should tell you." Elena started to say when Jeremy came back into the living room.
"Hey Elena, Mom and Aunt Jenna need help in the kitchen. Oh hey Bonnie," Jeremy said, surprised to see her there. "I didn't think you were coming tonight, and of course I didn't expect Damon to be here either," he added, glaring at Elena as he couldn't help but think she had something to do with it.
"Yeah, well I guess I decided to come after all," Bonnie said as she felt Damon wrap his arm around her waist and pull her closer to him protectively. Feeling the awkwardness already, Bonnie cleared her throat as she looked over at Elena. "Mind if I help in the kitchen?"
Elena nodded her head. "Sure, Bonnie. Come on." She answered as she gave Stefan a quick kiss on the lips. "Watch those two," she whispered, referring to Jeremy and Damon. The last thing Elena wanted was for Damon to kill her brother before dinner.
"Look who decided to join us for dinner after all," Elena said with a nervous smile as she and Bonnie walked into the kitchen together.
"Oh Bonnie, it's so good to see you," Miranda said as she walked up to Bonnie and wrapped her arms around Bonnie, pulling her into a hug. Miranda always loved Bonnie and treated her like a second daughter. When she heard what happened between Jeremy and Bonnie, Miranda tried reaching out to Bonnie a few times, but Bonnie never answered any of her calls.
"It's good to see you too, Mrs. Gilbert," Bonnie said with a small smile as she pulled back from Miranda, unsure of what to say next.
"Come on everyone, let's take all of this food into the dining room," Jenna said as she started to grab a couple of dishes and started to head out of the kitchen and into the dining room. "Bonnie is here," Jenna whispered to Ric as she set the dishes down.
"Ahh shit," Ric whispered back as he side-glanced over at Anna and then back to Jenna.
Following Miranda into the dining room, Elena placed her hand against Bonnie's elbow and pulled her to the side for a moment. "I should warn you," she said softly. "Jeremy invited Anna to dinner tonight."
Bonnie shrugged her shoulders. "So? I invited Damon to dinner. Both Jeremy and I have moved on, I am sure we can be in the same room and be civil with each other. Now let's go eat because I'm hungry." Bonnie said as she walked past Elena and into the dining room to join everyone for dinner.
Elena watched Bonnie walk away as she felt Stefan's hand against her waist. "I don't know about this," she said. "With all four of them sitting around the same table, I have a bad feeling something is going to go wrong." Elena knew that both Bonnie and Jeremy had moved on from each other; she just couldn't help but worry a little.
Stefan kissed her temple softly. "I'm sure everything will be fine. Let's go join our family for dinner." Stefan said softly as he led Elena towards the dining room where everyone was already waiting for them to join them at the table.
All throughout dinner, Bonnie ignored the couple sitting across from her and Damon by talking to her five-year-old niece. Or at least she was trying to. It was either staring at Anna's pregnant stomach or talking to her five-year-old niece. Bonnie would rather talk to her niece than stare at Anna's growing stomach all through dinner.
Bonnie always knew that she and Anna would cross paths again someday. She just wished that it hadn't been tonight, and to make matters worse, she and Damon ended up sitting across from Jeremy and Anna. Bonnie felt like if she ignored the couple and pretended they weren't sitting there, she would be fine. Even though she was trying her hardest to listen to whatever Emily was saying, she could feel Jeremy's eyes on her.
Jeremy couldn't stop staring at Bonnie as he watched and listened to her interact with their niece. God, she's beautiful, and she still takes my breath away, Jeremy thought to himself. He knew how much he had hurt her two months ago, and he also knew that he couldn't change the past. If he could, he would. However, maybe he could at least try to make things right with her - but there was just one problem. Damon Salvatore.
Bonnie is a very attractive and beautiful woman; it was the main reason why Jeremy fell in love with her in the first place. She could have any man in Mystic Falls, but instead she ended up with Damon Salvatore, Stefan's older brother. Jeremy couldn't understand why. When Jeremy first met Damon that Christmas a few years ago, he knew immediately that Damon Salvatore was an asshole, and even now, he still thinks so.
Earlier when Jeremy watched Damon wrap his arm around Bonnie's waist as if he had some kind of claim on her, it took everything inside of him and all of his self-control to stop himself from breaking Damon's hand. And he desperately wanted to.
Anna suddenly cleared her throat to get everyone's attention. "We have some exciting news to share with you all," she said as she reached for Jeremy's hand and locked their fingers together, making Bonnie cringe just a bit.
" Everyone, we're getting married!" Anna suddenly blurted out as she held out her hand and showed off the huge rock on her finger with a huge grin on her face.
Hearing the news of their engagement, Bonnie took a huge drink of her wine, causing her to choke and cough as she placed her hand against her chest. "Sorry," she said, "I guess it went down the wrong pipe." Bonnie then calmed herself and slowed down her breathing.
"Are you okay?" Damon asked with concern as he watched her for a moment.
Bonnie nods her head." Yeah, I just need some air. Excuse me everyone." Bonnie said as she got up from the table and walked out of the dining room as she could feel all their eyes on her which was embarrassing enough. Bonnie knows she shouldn't care or even feel jealous because it's over between them, but hearing them getting married was something she wasn't expecting but it did bring up some bad memories for her.
"Bonnie?" Damon asked softly as he walked up to her. "Are you sure you're okay?"
Bonnie nodded her head a little. "Yeah, I'm fine. It's just...well I wasn't really expecting that and I know that Jeremy and I are over and I shouldn't be jealous or anything because I'm not, of course, because now I'm with you. It's just that..." Bonnie's voice started to trail off as she wasn't sure what to say as she turned away from Damon.
Damon reached out, placing his hand against her chin as he turned her face back to him. "Bonnie, what's wrong?", he asked with concern and worry, as he could see the sadness in her eyes. As he watched the tears coming down her face, Damon gently wiped them away with the pad of his thumb.
That was supposed to be me, I was the one who was going to marry him and be the one who's carrying his child. Not her, me! We were supposed to start a family. Bonnie answered as she suddenly broke down, feeling Damon pulling her closer to him as she buried her head into his chest, crying some more.
Damon gently rubbed her back as he held onto her tightly and kissed the top of her head softly as he allowed her to cry all over him. Damon knew Bonnie didn't want to come here tonight and he should have just stayed home with her instead of talking her into coming here for dinner. Now, Damon couldn't help but feel guilty.
Bonnie pulled back slightly as she looked up at him. "Can you take me home?" she asked, not wanting to stay any longer and just wanting to get out of there already.
Damon nodded his head as he smiled gently at her. "Yeah, I can take you home," Damon answered as he kissed her forehead softly and stroked her face gently with both of his hands.
" Bonnie, are you okay?" Elena asked a few second later as she walked up to them. Elena wanted to be the one to go after Bonnie when she walked out of the dining room but Damon got up first and said he would go to talk to her instead, So Elena just let Damon go find Bonnie and waited for the right moment to check on her best friend.
Yeah, I am good. Um I hope you don't mind but I'm getting tired and I was gonna head home. Bonnie answered as she felt Damon's arm around her waist again. Bonnie felt bad for leaving so soon but she really didn't want to be around the newly engaged couple any longer than she needed to be.
Elena nodded her head in understanding. "Don't worry about it," she said. "I'll call you tomorrow." Elena added as she walked up to Bonnie and pulled her into a hug. "I'm so sorry, Bon," she whispered softly.
Bonnie nods her head a little as she steps back a little. "Thanks. Can you tell Jenna that I went home and I do apologize for walking out and ruining dinner?" Bonnie said, already feeling guilty for leaving in the middle of dinner.
Elena shook her head." You didn't ruin dinner and don't worry about Jenna. She'll understand just like everyone else would. Just go home and get some sleep and like I said, I will check on you tomorrow."
Bonnie chuckled as she nodded her head. "Thanks. Hey, save me a piece of that peach cobbler," Bonnie requested as she took Damon's hand in hers and started to walk past Elena, pulling him along with her.
"I'll save you the biggest piece," Elena called out as she watched them grab their jackets and walk out the door. Turning around, Elena walked into the kitchen just in time to find Jeremy grabbing beer from the fridge. "Are you seriously thinking about marrying Anna?" she asked, crossing her arms over her chest.
Jeremy shrugged his shoulders. "She's having my kid, so yeah I'm thinking of marrying Anna. Besides, it's the right thing to do." He answered as he took a drink of his beer. Jeremy was going to tell Bonnie about his engagement to Anna sooner or later. He just didn't want her to find out this way.
"Where is Bonnie?"
Damon had taken her home already. You know I thought you were an idiot for getting Anna pregnant. But now you're even a bigger idiot for marrying her. I mean seriously Jer, you've made some mistakes in your life. But this will be the biggest mistake you have ever made. I will never ever accept Anna into our family. I don't support this and I will never accept it. Elena said as she shook her head in disappointment as she turned around and walked away from Jeremy.
Jeremy sighed heavily as he pulled out his cell phone to find Bonnie's number. As he was about to call her, Jeremy shook his head and decided against it, putting his cell phone back in his pocket and going to find Anna instead.
Maybe Jeremy can talk.to Bonnie tomorrow.
