On Sunday, Leo and I chilled mostly playing and talking. Leo had to leave since his brother wanted him to come home to do their patrol and whatever the hell they do. I kinda hope the slider would stay longer, but all good things come to an end. So, on Sunday, I prepared my bag and school supplies. The next thing I knew it was Monday. I was eating a bowl of cereal when my phone went off. I got a text from Leo wishing me luck along with a thumbs up. I smiled as I sent him a middle finger emoji. I rode my bike to the public school.
I parked my bike next to the school's entrance before activating the security protocol; it initiates an electric shock that paralyzed any thief who touched it or attempt to steal. I grabbed my helmet and my backpack and headed for the double doors. I stood in front of it. I really didn't want to come back to this shithole. It's no doubt everyone's gonna talk shit. I know I shouldn't care, but the fact that I'm the main topic just infuriates me.
I wanna stay home and play my piano. Me and Leo just vibin' and chillin'. I took a deep breath and pushed those heavy doors with determination. Everyone looked my way. Already the student body murmured in hushed whispers. I walked down the hallway ignoring every student glancing and whispering until I made it to my locker on the second floor.
As I managed to unlock my locker, I noticed someone standing next to me leaning against the lockers. "Hey, stranger, how was house arrest?"
I rolled my eyes. I looked at the girl with dyed violet hair and nose piercing. Her satin purple jacket shone under the lights. This was Kendra: my first ex. "Kendra, I see you're still Queen of the Damned. Correction, the Purple Dragons. How're your henchmen?"
Kendra shrugged. "Not as entertaining as you."
"I bet." I did my best to ignore her, but she insisted on talking my ear off.
"I heard you've been a busy bee. People seeing you do crazy shit lately. Possibly the drugs you're taking."
"The closest thing to drugs is smoking and weed, that's it. I don't get doped up on meds. That ain't me." I deposited my helmet and some textbooks I'd brought and exchanged them for a calculator and a pencil case. "Why are talking to me? Shouldn't you plan your next tech heist or something?"
Kendra became quiet for a moment. Kendra used to be my best friend until middle school when she started to change. We even started the Purple Dragons. One day, she had the fucking nerve to hack me! Dead ass. She literally hacked my brain and control me like a puppet with invisible strings. I dumbed her as both my friend and ex-girlfriend. Her father was a kiss ass sucking up to my parents for a promotion. My mother approved of my rejection (for once!). I shook my head.
"...I miss you", she said. It's not the first time she tried to get me back. At least tried to get me to reinstate with the PD. "It's quiet without you here..."
"Makes me wonder how the principal knew I was in his office in the first place". I said, matter-of-factly, "there was only me and Tiffany. Makes me wonder who really was in the wrong."
Kendra looked away, causing me to raise an eyebrow. "Yeah, weird, huh?" I slammed my locker shut and started to leave, unfortunately, she blocked my path. "Wanna do something Friday?" she asked, rubbing her neck.
I rolled my eyes again. "Nope. Got shit to do." If you count doing weekend homework, training, and, if I'm wrong, hanging out with Leo.
"There's the homecoming dance this Friday... didn't you notice the decorations?" apparently, I didn't, and I took the time to see the hanging balloons and colorful banners hanging all over the school. "Thought you might wanna come with me or we can ditch and do something fun and dangerous like ol' times. What do you say?"
"Pass. Thinking about going to the dance with anyone besides you.", I replied without sparing a glance. She's not worth my time or worth the effort.
"What's the matter? Goth Boy got a hot date?" Kendra desperately called. My mind flashed to a certain mutant turtle. I turned around with a smile on my face.
"As a matter of fact, I do. Goodbye, Kendra", I said. I zeroed in on her expression. The look of defeat was satisfying.
The bell rang as I hurried to my homeroom. Why the fuck did I say that?! As if I would bring Leo – Leonardo the mutant turtle – to the homecoming dance. I should've just said something like "yeah, I'm going, but not with you" or "I got a hot date and we're off doing our own shit". I wanted to hit my head with a mallet to forget the shit I spouted. I managed to get to my homeroom class, sat in the back, and slammed my head on the desk. So far, my morning is going fan-FUCKING-tastic. The bell rang again, and homeroom started. The teacher called my name while taking attendance. Everyone looked at me and started whispering. Was it too late to fake an illness?
Fifteen, probably thirty minutes later, the bell rang again for the first period. I made for Algebra II in a niche of time. I was going to be a good boy today. No trouble whatsoever.
How wrong I was.
I was in the middle of the lecture writing down notes for the upcoming chapter quiz when the teacher started monologuing about his life during the lesson. We all groaned. I checked the time. It was thirty minutes before the class ends and the old man chose NOW to talk. Fuck. I rested my cheek on my hand. For once, I would rather deal with my mother and her lectures.
'She gotta be bad if you're complaining on your first day back from vacation.'
It's more of a short break than a vacation... LEO! Where are you? Please tell me you're not in the building.
'...not exactly... look through the window...' I spared a glance at the window next to my desk. A tall tree blocked the city's view and the sun's rays. But it was the person waving his three-fingered hand while sitting next to the trunk of the tree.
I yelled, causing myself to lose my balance and fall off my seat. "Mr. Ramirez is there a problem?" the Algebra teacher asked. Everyone looked at me, including Leo for some reason.
I composed myself. "As a matter of fact, yes. I need to take a leak."
"Can it wait? I am about to review the key points for the quiz."
"Sir, in our day and age, holding in your bladder is a big no-no. I could burst. My intestine and urine will be all over this classroom. Who would be at fault here? The student who explodes or the teacher who let his student explode?" students around me clapped like I just spouted a Martin Luther King Jr. speech.
"Sit down, Mr. Ramirez, and let me continue class." He turned around and wrote on the board with a mathbook in hand.
"Sir, if you don't let me use the restroom, I will drop my pants and piss right here", I threatened with a bluff. My hands were already on the belt. My classmates had their phones out getting ready to record.
"STOP! Go, before I report you to the principal's office", my teacher sighed as I rushed out of the classroom. "Mr. Ramirez!" I stopped. I looked inside to see him dangling a hall pass. "I want your return with a pass in hand. Do I make myself clear?"
I grabbed the item. "Crystal!" I yelled and ran off. I reached the closest restroom and locked the door. I walked to the window and opened it. "Leo", I whispered. I looked both ways. The slider came to my line-of-sight upside down.
"Looking for me?" he asked with a grin.
My eyebrow twitched. "Get your inside before someone sees you." I moved away to give Leo space as he swung himself in. "What are you doing here? Don't you have some training or mutant catching to do?" I asked, closing the window.
Leo shrugged, taking in the boy's restroom. "I got bored."
I rubbed the ridge between the eyebrows. "What if your brothers – mainly a certain snapping turtle – call you? What are you going to tell him?"
"I went sightseeing", he answered with no thought.
"You can't stay here, Leo. Everyone will see you."
"I'm doing a good job so far. What's the problem? I'll even borrow some spare clothes if it makes you feel better. I'm sure there's a lost and found somewhere."
I held my hand up. "Nope. Not risking it. There's a chance someone is bound to spot you sooner than later. It's best if you stay close to me."
Leo laid his hand on his hips and shifted his to the left. "How? You said so yourself someone is going to see me." I hate to say it... I'm gonna need to chip in a favor from one of my exes. "Exes? Should I be concerned?"
"I hope not. Stay in the bathroom stall until further notice." Leo raised an eye ridge. "Please." As an added effort, I gave my best sincere stare. Anyone caves as they stare into those eyes. It was very effective.
Leo heavily sighed. "Fine, but only 'cause you asked nicely." He walked into the stall for wheelchairs and locked it.
I pulled out my phone and went through my contact list. I have two choices: call Lydia or Alex. Alex was probably in the middle of a fashion project. Lydia has got to be with her girlfriend, Katie. I mean, who wants to go to the class first period where there are plenty of hiding places to make out? "Girlfriend? Am I missing something here?" Leo poked his head over the stall.
"Just let me make the call", I said. I dialed the number. The line was on hold for a few minutes. This was too early to chip in my favor and a little too soon.
A familiar voice was on the other line. "Merrill? Why are you calling? Did someone die?"
"Seriously, Lydia? The one time I called you, you assumed death? I can see what Katie sees in you. Respect."
"What the fuck does Goth Boy want?" another female voice was beside Lydia.
"Katie, just the woman I'm looking for", I said with my charm on 52%.
'Oh, brother.'
"He's joking, right?" My charm obviously didn't work on her.
Lydia on the other hand: "Let's hear him out. It must be important if he's looking for you." I still got it.
"Does Katie got clothes she can spare? I know she gives some to charity in her spare time. She wouldn't mind if I use them?" I sweetly asked with a dose of honey innocence.
"What's in it for me?" Katie asked doubt filling her tone. She must have grabbed her girlfriend's cell.
"I could pay you?" I said, not sure what she wants.
"Nah, I want you to find the most expensive restaurant and pay for the entire date. I'm talking about entrées, music, the whole shebang!"
"Katie! Merrill, you don't have to do that!" Lydia rejected.
"Done. Just get the clothes and meet me in the third-floor restroom." I hung up before they ask any more questions. I turned seeing Leo looking at me.
"You're making me wear women's clothing again? What about that Alex person you were thinking of?"
"I wanted to but knowing Alex they're too busy designing their graduation outfit or some other fashion project. I didn't want to stress them out. They have enough on their plate."
Leo smiled. "That was nice of you."
I narrowed my eyes. "Hush you."
It didn't take long for the sluts to arrive. A knock on the door indicated their presence. Leo hid in the stall as I walked to the locked door. I unlocked it and peered out through the crack. "Hey sluts", I greeted.
Katie, a punk rock chick with dyed pink hair with half a shaved head, glared at me with clothes on hand. "I could deny your request and bounce."
Lydia, her light brown hair messy out of her ponytail, stood behind her. "Don't be mean, Kitty. Sorry, Merrill. We're happy to help."
"I'm here for the free date."
I went for the clothes, but the punk rocker pulled them out o my reach. "Why do you need them?"
"I'm gonna wear 'em."
"Not good enough."
"Katie!" Lydia yelled. I looked around the hall. I don't have time for this shit. I pulled the lesbians inside the boys' restroom. "Was that necessary?"
"Listen, Merrill, we're doing polyamory shit, especially in a nasty ass bathroom", Katie said.
"Ohmigawd! No! I didn't call you during your make-out session, ask for clothes, and bring them here just for sex!" I explained.
"Why didn't you call Alex?" the peppy girl asked, "he can design clothes within minutes?"
"Called it!" Leo called from his hiding spot.
"Shut the fuck up!" I sneered.
"So, you were in the middle of sex?" Katie asked, her clothes tightly in her grasp.
Suddenly, Leonardo burst through the stall. "There was no sex involved!" The girls stared at the mutant turtle. I slapped my face. Estupido. Leo nervously chuckled. "I'm just gonna... go back..." he slowly closed the door. After, Lydia fainted.
I had to slash water on her to recover. Katie was fanning her girlfriend with her notebook. Lydia regained consciousness.
"Nice going, dipshit", I told Leo.
"Hey, it was by accident!" Leo protested, "I didn't expect to react like that." He was already out of his hiding spot.
"As you see, that's why I needed the clothes", I explained.
"Why my clothes?" Katie asked, "Couldn't you use the lost and found? Of maybe the gym?"
"Not gonna risk it. Long story short, I'm friends with a mutant turtle; he followed me to school; he's gonna need a disguise. You're now caught up."
Katie and Lydia stood, holding each other's arms. "He's not gonna do anything weird, right?" the punk girl asked, protecting Lydia.
"Unless you can survive his one-liners and puns, you're good."
"Hey, they're not bad!" Leo declined.
"Sure. Sluts meet Leo, and Leo meets Sluts. Any questions?"
"I won't hesitate to kick your balls", Katie threatened with a heated glare.
"Just give Leo the clothes. I gotta get back to class. I'll meet you guys by the library. If anything, text me. Peace." I rushed out of the bathroom and ran through the hall. I thought I was gonna make it, but the bell rang. I cursed under my breath as my teacher looked at me.
"Mr. Ramirez, congratulations. You made it in time for the class to end", my teacher greeted.
Fuck my life.
