And this goes to everyone who reads this: I welcome ALL reviews. If I make a mistake, I do correct myself. But I won't delete this story. I never meant to insult the series or slander its good name. I wrote this for fun. I wrote this to inspire myself to complete a project I started. I've come this far and I'm not backing down. So come at me, reviews! I'm just going to keep on writing!
Without further ado, here's Chapter 46.
Disclaimer: I don't own ROTTMNT; this story doesn't always follow the plotline (if you want to see the full series, watch it on Paramount Plus or Nickelodeon). I only own my OCs like Merrill.
Xander and I ran as fast as we could in the direction Donnie mentioned. "We should have let Leonardo and your human friend join us. Now they will become the siren's meal!"
I sneered as I pulled my gloves with my teeth. "Less bitchin' and more runnin'! The faster we get to them, the faster we can stop that siren!"
"And pray to tell, what is your plan in stopping her?"
"My shadows will stop her before she opens her mouth." Honestly, I got nothing! Xander mentioned I'm a newb to my shadow powers, which I hate to say, he's right. So far, shadows respond to my emotions. Its something. Will it be enough? My phone rang. I stopped to check. Xander noticed my pause. Donnie's calling me.
I answered. "Don, what's the status?"
"Are you with Xander? Put me on speaker!" The soft shell didn't give me time to answer. I pressed the speaker button. "Good news, Raph and Katie made it to Alex. Bad news, Leo got captured."
Mama's Boy grabbed my phone. "Not my Leonardo! Donatello, tell me your location! I will call Mother to send an army of yokai staff to my beck and call!" I punched the yokai simp and took back my phone.
"How're the others?" I asked.
"Raph, Alex, and Katie are nursing their hearing. The siren has a defensive secondary weapon. Her voice lures her prey, but she can alter her vocal cord to heighten her voice to discriminate predators. What a fantastic method."
"Don, come back to New York. Brother in danger!"
"Right, right! Her sound frequency disappeared... give me exactly eight seconds and I will give you Leo's location."
Mama's Boy grabbed my phone again while shoving my face aside. "No need, Donatello. I will save Leonardo. He will praise me enough to accept my proposal!" he tossed my phone before running off.
"Oh, hell nah! Get your ass over here!" I yelled, chasing him.
"Are you two competing to see who will reach Leo first-" I hung up. I knew I'm gonna get an earful later, but now, my concern was not losing to Xander of all people.
We were pushing and shoving trying to get ahead of one another. Xander had the fucking nerve to trip me! "Pussy!"
The silver-haired yokai threw me a cheeky smirk. He stopped running. "...Leonardo?" I stood up and went to his side. He was right. Leo was standing in front of us, unharmed.
The turtle gently smiled. My heart skipped a beat. Lee looked beautiful when he smiled. My moonlight radiantly shined over his head like a halo. He opened his mouth. He sang in a lovely tune. I never realized the slider had such an amazing voice. Xander walked up to him, mesmerized. Leo affectionately stroked the yokai's cheek. My stomach became a raging pit. He should be touching my cheek! Not that ungrateful, yokai brat! Leo looked my way; he held out his hand and sang his song. My legs carried me over. His voice was too majestic. My vision was blurry despite my scanners being in top-notch condition.
You fool! Are you daft enough to let a temptress toy with your heart?!
Temptress? No, Leo wouldn't do that...
This is not your love. Think, darkling! In the month you have known him, do you not see the changes in his actions?
Changes? Leo's just singing... singing...? Donnie mentioned the siren can become as beautiful as a goddess... or as someone their prey desires. I need confirmation.
I caressed his cheek, affectionately. Leo... if you can hear me, stop singing. The slider grabbed my hand and pecked it. My hand trailed to his chin. I drew him close. Leo closed his eyes as I leaned in.
He was expecting a kiss, huh?
He got something alright.
I grabbed his throat and thrust him to the wall hard. "You're not Leo", I said. The imitation's hands went to my wrist trying to loosen my grip.
"You idiot!" Xander yelled, accusingly, "What are you doing? You can't be this moronic!"
"Then that makes you a moron if you didn't realize this piece of shit isn't Leo", I told the spider.
"What? Are you blind, human? You're hurting Leonardo! I will kill you!"
"Think back. What are sirens known for?"
"Their heavenly voices... and..." wait for it. "I have been outwitted by a fish!" There it is. The dumbass put two plus two together.
"Welcome back, fucker." we heard a chuckle. I looked over at the copycat.
"You're just like him..." that bitch imitated his voice, "He, too, broke my spell..." he grinned, showing sharp teeth like a shark. "... you have a pure heart like him..."
I tightened my grip on his neck. I had to remind myself the person I'm holding wasn't Leo. I glared at the imposter. "Where is he?" I demanded. He chuckled.
"...he's fine... no scratch... no mark... still perfect for my Daniel..." Daniel? Who's that? "... I can show you your love... come with me... I am loyal..." at this point, I would absolutely decline the offer. Sadly, the siren knows where she's keeping Leo. If I go, who's to say she'll keep her end of the deal? Leo could be dead for all we know!
No, don't think like that. You're being negative again, Merrill! Leo's alive, I know it!
"Take me to Leonardo, wrench!" Xander shoved my face off the copycat. My eyebrow twitched in annoyance. I'm going to kill this fucker first then the sea bitch.
Leo's form was replaced by a tall woman with blonde hair, green scaly skin, gills, webbed hands with claws, and black eyes. "Yes... the dark boy... you're perfect for..."
An explosion was heard from beyond the west. The siren looked mortified. "DANIEL!" She looked up at me. "What did you do?!"
"Bitch, we did nothing!" I told her.
"LIAR!" she screeched. I released her. The sonic voice echoed in my ears. I covered them to null the sound. Xander was feeling the effect as well. The soundwave was getting louder and higher. At this rate, I could lose my hearing. I felt hands around my neck. I looked up to see the siren; she continued singing in her high-pitched voice. "I. WILL. DEVOUR. YOU!" I was losing focus. My limbs felt heavy, even with my prosthetics.
Suddenly, she was yanked off. I managed to breathe easily. I rubbed my neck gasping for air. I looked up to see Mikey tying the siren with his weapon. Donnie taped her mouth shut. Lydia and Alex were helping me stand. "Are you okay, Merrill?" the brunette asked.
"Yeah. Good timing guys", I said.
The tall woman wiggled and squirmed. Raph was holding her down. "You're going away for a long time, lady!" the snapping turtle proclaimed. It looked like it was over. The siren's captured. No more murder on Halloween (unless something else happens). People could rest easy.
"Where's Leo?" Katie asked the million-dollar question.
"I thought you were on your way to finding him!" Donnie said.
"We were", I explained, "but the bitch got to us first."
"Did you use your connection?" Why didn't I think of that sooner? Leo, can you hear me? How close are you? No answer. Instead... I felt rage coming this way. Light footsteps made their way to the alleyway. We all looked up to see... Leo! Everyone was so happy to see him alive! His wig covered his eyes. Something wasn't right...
Leo tilted his head, his eyes looked ahead... I think of me or maybe behind... Leo tightened his grip on his sword and dashed. His sword was coming down onto the siren. I got between them, clutching the sword in my hands. "Lee, what the hell are you doing?!"
The slider's eyes locked onto me. His dark eyes weren't normal. They were bright blue. He glared at me with intense heat. "Move." It was the same at the Grand Nexus Hotel. This time... Leo's pissed. I saw the shadows backing away or hiding deeper in their hiding places. They were terrified.
I unarmed Leo, tossing his sword behind me. I pushed him back. "Who are you?"
Leo ignored my question. Instead, he asked, "Why are you protecting that barnacle? She reeks of impurity." the fuck was he talking about. Impurity?
"When did you get holy, Lee?" I lightly jested. He didn't take the joke too kindly.
"I won't repeat myself. Move."
"No!" I defended. Leo's marks glowed. Light encased his fists. It was at that moment that his brothers jumped on him yelling for the red-eared slider to come to his senses.
"Let. Me. GO!" Leo pushed his brothers off him. Golden wings sprouted out his back. He took to the sky; his marks glowed; yellow glyphs appeared in front; swords popped out. "That creature needs to pay!" even his voice changed; heavy and echoed. Was this Misa? No... something was off... in the memories I've had of her, the blue-haired woman never shown holy wings... was this the opposite version of the Shadow King? I glanced at the siren. She was crying her dark eyes out. Her sniffles muffled underneath the tape. I stepped between Leo and the siren. Leo noticed my action. "Stand aside, shadow heir. This doesn't concern you."
"As a matter of fact, it does. I don't know what got you piss enough to want to commit homicide, but the Leonardo I know wouldn't resort to this method."
Leo stared with his glowing, blank eyes. "You're not aware of what she has done. I have seen the grotesque massacre she lodged in her living quarters. Daniel – the one she claimed was her lover – wanted to die. He committed suicide, burning himself and every corpse in there. I could still smell the burning flesh off there. She needs to be sent to Hell!"
Even off from the distance, I could smell burning rotten meat. Leo was telling the truth, but still... "Still... we don't have the power to be the judge, jury, or executioner. That's not what we do... it's not what YOU do! You help people. You don't execute people for justice."
"Do we... or do I?" Leo flicked his wrist, and a sword flew. On instinct, I lift my arm. It got lodged in my arm. I'm glad I have metal arms. The brightness was making my skin burn. I pulled the sword out. The weapon was melting the metal. I tossed it aside, yet it disappeared in two clanks. "Why are you protecting that criminal?"
"Guys! Get the siren and go as far from here as possible!" I yelled at the gang.
"You are not challenging Leonardo to a duel!" Xander yelled.
"Stop bitchin' and do as I say!"
"What's going on?" Mikey asked.
"Leo's not himself... he's being controlled..."
"Then, let us take care of him!" Raph insisted.
"No... he's too focused on getting vengeance on the siren... take her away!"
"...how certain can you bring him back?" Donnie asked.
I stayed quiet, my focus was on the flying turtle. "Don't know. I didn't know how he was able to get me out of mine."
"That's not an answer. I need a specific answer, Merrill!"
"...can you bring him back...?" I heard April mutter.
"...I can try..." I honestly replied.
"Whelp! You heard Goth Boy. We gotta move!" I heard disagreements here and there. After, I heard footsteps leaving the area.
Shadows wrapped around my gauntlets and enveloped my claws. Leo... you saved me from the darkness... I'm gonna returned that favor. You mean so much to me. If you use mystic powers to state your motive, then I'll use mine to bring you back.
Back to being my friend.
Back to someone who I admire.
Someone I cherish.
~Lady Ai~
I watched him stand there on the ground harnessing the shadows into his claws. Why couldn't he understand my method? The siren needs to answer her crimes! He's protecting her! He's on her side! He was supposed to be on my side! The very thought of it made my blood boil. I let my swords dive at him. He slashed the air unleashing a shadow wave slicing two swords; the last three pierced through his clothes. My hand twitched. I didn't want to hurt my puppy, but he's too stubborn to listen to reason!
"You're not my enemy. Stand down", I ordered.
The human portraying Dark narrowed his eyes. "No. Whoever you are, I'm not gonna let you win. You're not gonna kill that siren. She's going to be locked up. And there's nothing you're going to do about it!" He's not my priority. I flapped my wings and flew over him. I need to get to the siren. The terrapins and humans are taking her farther away; they shouldn't be far. Something grabbed my leg. I looked down spotting a dark tentacle wrapped around my ankle. "Where do you think you're going?" The human grabbed the tentacle and tugged pulling me down. He's persistent!
I summoned a sword. I cut the tie. I flapped my wings and flew to higher ground. I need to keep my distance. I was above the buildings. I was about to start my search, but I dodged something. It was a shadow wolf! So, he resorted to cheap tricks.
"Clearly, you are a novice to the dark arts, human", I said, "using the shadows as a mediocre carnival trick."
Dark's disciple managed to get to the rooftop. "You're one to talk! Playing with your toys like a little kid! Add to your temper tantrums and you might as well consider yourself as one!" that smirk of his was irritating me.
I activated two glyphs. "You dare call me a child!" I wanted to discipline this mutt!
The human had the audacity to smirk. "If the boot fits."
With a yell, I let out a light beam. The human summoned a dark shield. It evaporated within seconds. The human ran summoning wolf after wolf. I struck them down with my feathers; they rained down like golden rain. One was close to my line of fire; I fired a small energy beam at it. I defeated the pathetic excuse of a wave. Then, I saw the human enveloped himself in shadows. Next, more copies appeared. Was he trying to confuse me? The clones scattered and ran around our arena. Amusing parlor tricks, however, it's a wasted effort. I released a massive self-destructive wave brightening up the night. All the shadow clones were gone... but the human was not present. I lowered down yet remained floating.
He vanished.
No... was he hiding? Did he escape? I attempted to locate him through my aura until I was pounced on by a force I didn't sense.
I landed on my back. My eyes were locked up in the sky. The sky lacked stars. There was enough to cover the evening. Where have the years gone? The human loomed over me. A victorious grin grew on his face.
"I win." his declaration wasn't of pride or of mockery; it was a relief.
I released an exhausted sigh. "You certainly have."
