"Adrien, Felix! There you are! Hurry and get changed, Uncle Colt and Aunt Amelie are waiting," Emile says. "Mother, can Kagami and Marinette stay for dinner?" Instantly, Emile's face lights up. "Of course, dear. Girls, you'll need dresses for dinner." "I'll show them, Aunt Amelie. Then I'll get changed."
We head upstairs and Adrien veers right to his room, while Felix ushers us to the left. I let Marinette pass me as I realize my boyfriend's face showed a pallor. "Love, are you alright?" I whisper. "Kagami, my father is here, and he's evil. I…." Felix doesn't finish his sentence as he rushes into what I assume is Emile's room and into the bathroom and I run after him.
Felix vomits violently into the toilet, his face now an ashen color. Carefully, I shut the door, rubbing his back and whispering soothing words. Finally, Felix slumps towards the cooled tilted floor, and I catch him, placing his head in my lap.
"Your father may have been evil in the real world, but this isn't it. Whatever evil happened then, won't happen here." He turns his eyes towards me. "I know, honey. But that doesn't mean I'm afraid."
"Hey, we're together, a team, and more importantly family. We'll get through this together." "How did I stumble upon a perfect girl such as you?" he whispers, sitting up, only to find my lips.
As much as I want to stay in the warm fuzzy bubbles, Emile is waiting. "Everything okay?" Marinette asked, looking at rows and rows of dresses inside a wardrobe. Felix straightens up, seeming like he's slowly feeling like his old self again. "The dresses in the wardrobe over there will fit you girls best. I'm going to go check on Adrien."
We select our dresses, and even though we are trapped in another world, we make the most of it, giggling as we do our makeup and each other's hair. Both Marinette and I have selected red dresses, our hair piled up in fancy buns. Marinette selects a ladybug hair clip, and if luck should have it, there's even one in here that's shaped like a red dragon.
Felix and Adrien are waiting at the bottom of the stairs, and as Felix finds my eyes, I can't look away. His emerald eyes are a burning green, burning with the love they have for me. "You girls look lovely, let's…."
"Adrien, Felix! I'm been looking all over you! Adrien, I have your present right here in my bag!" "Is that Gabriel?" Marinette whispers in a hushed voice to the boys, but I can pick up an American accent. Adrien gives his head a tiny shake. "That's my Uncle Colt."
Felix's father. The resemblance is uncanny to Gabriel, save for the accent and handlebar mustache. Colt plonks a cowboy hat down on Adrien's head. "A perfect fit! We'll have to talk contracts at dinner to get you an American cowboy photo shoot!"
"Colt! You know the presents were supposed to wait until after dinner. Ah, well, come along everyone. Dinner is served."
The dining table is covered with food, and Gabriel Agreste stands at the end. I feel Marinette squeeze my hand hard, and I understand. For her, it must be looking like an evil ghost. "Welcome, everyone. Find a seat, and enjoy!"
Felix and I sit across from Adrien and Marinette, but I'm watching Adrien. It seems like he can't tear his gaze away from his mother. Even in the short time Adrien and I "dated" he rarely talked of his mother.
"You should have been at the studio today, my dears, so much excitement! The fashion show was going without a hitch, when suddenly one the girls ripped her dress, and beads flew everywhere! I tried to be professional, but I couldn't help but laugh!"
We all join in her laughter, and we listen to the chatter. "Felix, next time you have a chess match, let me know and I'll be in the front row cheering you on," Colt says. Amelie gives us a knowing smile. "I think Felix already has a cheering section," she catches my eye, and winks. "I'll do that, Father," Felix says quietly, "But I thought you hated me playing chess." Colt now wears a surprised look. "Felix, no matter what career you choose, your mother and I will always be proud of you."
"And we love you," Emile says, looking at all of us. "Each and everyone one of you. Adrien, are you alright?" Adrien is now wearing a mask, but it isn't the one of the Black Cat. It is the mask of a boy who misses his mother.
"May I be excused, please?" Emelie looks surprised. "Are you feeling okay?" Before Adrien can answer, she comes around. Pressing a hand to his forehead. "Very well. We'll push back dessert a hour. Goodness!"
We all stare at Adrien who is now hugging his mother tightly. "I love you, Mother," he whispers.
When we're in Adrien's room, the tears start flowing. "I don't want to leave this place. There's no evil here, and Mother felt so real. I even smelled her perfume." "Adrien, love," Marinette sighs, tears glistening in her own eyes. I catch her eye, and nod.
"Give us a few minutes," I tell the boys and we walk into the bathroom for some privacy. Marinette whirls on me. "Kagami, what do I do? Jupiter trapped in here, knowing in this perfect mirror world, we'd never want to leave. And how do I do that to Adrien?"
Tears fall down her cheeks, and I pull her into a hug. "Its like you said, Marinette. This may be a perfect world, but its still fake. It might be the hardest thing you've ever done, but you have to tell Adrien we have to leave."
"Will it break his heart?" Her voice cracks, and my heart nearly cracks along with it. Marinette is no longer just my best friend, she is my sister and I hate to see her suffer. "In the end, he'll know you did he right thing."
I run a washcloth under cool water from the sink. "Now, wipe your eyes."
"And in the morning, we'll walk in the garden...Bugaboo!" I catch Felix's vacant expression and he knows what's coming.
"My mother is alive, and tomorrow we'll walk in the garden!" "Adrien, honey," Marinette takes his hands, "That's not her. Jupiter created this world so we wouldn't want to leave. We can't give him that kind of power."
Adrien jumps away from her, anger glittering in his eyes. "I just reunited with my mother, and you want to me to just walk away!" "Love-"
"No,-"
"You shouldn't deny your boyfriend's wish, Marinette," a silken voice says, and we look up to see Jupiter holding a cane and wearing the Butterfly Brooch.
Marinette leaps up, transforming on the spot. "Don't you know not to play with people's feelings? And how did you get here and find the brooch?" Jupiter shrugs as if this is mere conversation. "While the Ladybug is away, the Villain will rue the day. And you forget, Ladybug, I created this world, but this isn't the world you'll be staying in." Ladybug whirls her yo-yo, a warning growl in her throat.
Then, we hear a whistling sound and Cat joins Ladybug. "Even in anger, Cat Noir, you are still loyal."
Then everything seems to happen in slow motion, as Jupiter sends the akuma straight into Cat's bell. "No!" Argos screams, and before I can reason or pull him back, Jupiter sends out the second akuma into Argos's fan.
Before Ladybug or I can do anything, a strong cold wind whips us backwards, into another world. The wind whips at our hair and the temperature has dropped dramatically, but its the weather that has us frightened, for both Cat and Argos have been akumatized, and Cat Blanc is back.
"Kitty," Ladybug whispers, and the wind is loud as Cat stares her down. "My Lady, I don't want to hurt you, so I'll bid you goodbye."
With a bright flash of white light, he uses his cataclysm along the water, making an icy path. Argos turns to look at me. Then they are gone, and Ladybug are the only ones left in this now frozen wasteland, and I find Ladybug's hand.
"We'll bring them back and win. He still loves you, Marinette." But Ladybug is frozen, her eyes still on the path that Cat took.
"I promised him a long time ago I wouldn't abandon him. I made the same promise to Adrien, even if I didn't know they were one in the same. I made that promise then, and I vow to keep it now."
We step onto the icy path, but our feet slip and slide. "Ladybug, we need to make a plan." "Your right. Well head out in the morning."
Using her Lucky Charm, it gives us all that we need. At least our powers are still working. We huddle in the tent, trying to keep each other warm.
Though we are are numb from cold and grief, we stay strong. I think about Felix's loving words, the last kiss we shared. Did we share our last kiss before dinner? No, don't think like that! I scold myself.
I picture his warm lips against mine own, and capture the feeling, and store it in my heart. Ladybug is curled up into a ball, and she speaks quietly to me. "Remember when the shadows first held those mirrors and I screamed?" I nod.
"Because this is what I saw." "Have courage, Ladybug. Jupiter might be savoring is victory right now, but in the end, it will be us. He don't realize how powerful love can be."
"Despite everything, I wouldn't want anyone else by my side," Ladybug says.
Then we fall asleep. In my dream, we've won, and Jupiter's evil reign is no more. Argos and Cat might be far away from us right now, but we will save them, no matter what the cost.
