I admit it, I'm not a Pokemon fan, but I must admit Detective Pikachu is a good, enjoyable film you can see regardless. It's a nice detective story with some action, it's funny (especially with Ryan Reynolds, AKA Deadpool, as Detective Pikachu (I know, shocking. Pun intended), and heartfelt. It's like Roger Rabbit because of a human teaming up with a cartoon character to solve a mystery.
Steve and friends, being lifelong Pokemon fans, loved every minute of it. It lived up to their expectations, and didn't disappoint. Jeff and Hayley went as well. Hayley wasn't a Pokemon fan, but like me, said it looked cute. They said it was the best live action video game film.
Pikachu was cute, as well as other Pokemon. Psyduck had a cute voice. Steve told me the names of the other gens that I'm not familiar with. What a nice guy!
When Steve and friends got their tickets, they also got Pokemon cards just like they had in past Pokemon films. They all got a Detective Pickahu card of course, Toshi and Jeff got theirs on another form, and all got another card. Each of them different. There was Psyduck, Greninja, , Squirtle, Jigglypuff, and Mewtwo. I didn't get any, not that I'm complaining, but it'll be cool! Imagine me getting the Mewtwo card!
I'll briefly summarize it. Tim, a young man, goes into the city when his father, who he has't talked to in years is claimed to have been killed in a car crash. When in his father's apartment, Tim finds Detective Pikachu. He convinces Tim that his dad 's not dead, and together they go to solve the case, of the whereabouts of his father, and finds out Detective Pikachu's identity. They are accompanied by a partner, and her Psyduck (not Misty).
This is based on a video game, and people agree that it's the best video game movie (granted all of the other video game films suck, or people hated them because they're not too faithful). People like this one because it's pretty faithful to it's source materiel, and Ryan makes a darn funny Pikachu. The next video game movie is Sonic, and besides Jim Carry as Eggman, might not be too good, decent at best.
They're already planning a sequel, and maybe a Pokemon cinematic universe. Gosh, how Pokemon has grown in the last twenty plus years
I'm sorry, but Pikachu does not drop the F-bomb, but he does do some miner swearing which is shocking (pun once again intended) for a childhood cartoon character. So, Pokemon fan or not, this once again is pretty enjoyable, and Ryan makes it well worth it.
