Okay, I can't stay silent about this. This is about the senseless act that happened to an unarmed black man in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Memorial Day by a police officer.
George Floyd had just gotten groceries when it happened. Apparently he had trouble with the law before and moved to Minnesota to start fresh. Also apparently, he was still kind of doing something shady, someone at the store got mad and that's when the cops got involved. But murdering someone over groceries? That officer went too far, way too far!
The officer put his knee on George's throat for nearly nine minutes. He interrupted George's plea of 'I can't breathe.' He also muttered for his mama. And what's worse? His coworkers stood by without a thought to stop him. There were also bystanders. The four cops were all fired, and the one who committed the murder did get arrested. Thank gosh! People like him disgust me.
As you all may know, protests went down in Minnesota as well as other states. Some of them peaceful, some not. I heard they destroyed buildings down in Minneapolis. That's how bad it is over there.
And on top of all that, a truck driver recently drove and sped up at the protesters. Fortunately he warned them by honking his horn and nobody was hurt. He did get arrested though as well as some protesters that day.
Like all major events that happened throughout the nation, this senseless, unspeakable act did get talked about on TV and other media. Some YouTubers today did Blackout Tuesday. They upload their videos, but they're not their normal videos. They run for one minute and just pitch black, no talking whatsoever, just black. You may think that was a waste, but it was all for a good cause and they were fundraisers. Even the kids' channel Nickelodeon did something similar for almost nine minutes with inspiring messages for the children. Some more TV stations did smilier stuff.
They say 'Minnesota nice' for Minnesotans. But incidences such as this, proves that's not always the case. Canada is supposed to be all polite too, but as we learned in Minnesota, nothing is what they seem.
2020 is just halfway through and is already shaping to be one of the worst years. It seems like it all went well, except for Kobe's death, until March, then it went downhill from there. Camps are cancelled, fairs, San Diego Comic-Con, the Olympics, and many other things are cancelled. To some, it may be the worst summer yet, and I don't blame them.
As someone who is constantly not being heard, I agree with the protests. Black lives matter, German lives matter, American lives matter, white lives matter, ALL lives matter. It doesn't matter where you came from or the color of your skin. It's what you do as a person that defines you. As long as you are nice and have proven yourself worthy, you belong on this earth, despite what all of the haters may say.
Author's note: I live in Minnesota so it's really shocking and disgusting to see these kinds of violent senseless acts coming from the state that I grew up in and still live in today. I just want my black readers to know that your life does matter like everyone else around the globe. Make your voices heard and we will listen.
