January 20

Well, today's the big day for politics. What some Americans were waiting for since 2017. It's Inauguration day for President Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris. It was also the last day of the Trump Administration, but this blog is about our new leaders and their families.

Biden and Kamala both got sworn in at Capital Hill. Nearly all of the living past presidents were there. Don't worry, Jimmy Carter and his wife are still alive, but they're both in their nineties. That and the pandemic are probably the reasons why they didn't attend. Sad, because this might be the last time Jimmy Carter can attend one. Unless he gets lucky in 2024 when he's 100. And even though Trump wasn't there, Mike Pence was. It's sad that the last president wasn't there for the new president, but that's how the cookie crumbles I guess.

Biden then gave out his address to the nation after he and Kamala got sworn in. First Biden said that today was Democracy's Day, America's Day. He then recalled the events two weeks earlier. This is a day of hope, history, renewal and resolve. He talked about how democracy is fragile and precious. He said despite America being of good people, it has a long way to go. He talked about Abe Lincoln and Martin Lurther King Jr. He talked about the deadly disease currently in our nation and took a brief time of silence. I'm not going to talk about his entire speech. It's on YouTube if you're curious. Probably the whole Inauguration too.

Biden signed documents. He, Harris and their spouses were all in the capital to get their Inauguration gifts. They reviewed the troops. They then were escorted to Arlington Cemetery to lay a wreath for the Unknown Soldier. The parade happened with marching bands and other special vehicles. Then it was time for them to get escorted to the White House. And that's pretty much it.

Hayley, Jeff and I are going to secretly celebrate with wine. We didn't invite Roger, but considering his love of wine, he'll probably join us. We are using his bar after all, so it's probably fair.

And that's it. I started this blog with the 2016 election and here we are today with a new President and Vice President. What will the future hold for America? Will Biden run again, even though he'll be in his early eighties for the next election in 2024? Will Trump run again? Will Harris or another female? Will history be made again? In 2024, we'll know. And hopefully for the next election, America will be in a better state then right now. Hopefully hope and better days are on the horizon for all Americans. And although some of you still disagree, we are still the United States of America and Joe Biden knows it and will fight for all of us.
