Ch. 3. Midgard Snow Desert
Inspired by some fan art I saw on Pinterest. Just look for Spider-Man and Loki get ice cream.
Also Asgard has no good food.
I own nothing. If I did boy would Infinity War be different. Also No Way Home.
Patty POV:
"You mean you've never had ice cream? Like ever?" I asked.
Mr. Loki sighed. "No. I have not. What is it, exactly?"
"ONLY THE BEST THING IN THE WORLD!"
I covered my mouth after that. Way too loud. People were staring.
We were wandering around NYC. I was showing him around, 'cause the last time he had been here was the infamous "Battle of New York" and that was a long time ago. The city's changed a lot since then.
Also…you don't really get the "feel" of a city when you're attacking it, so…yeah.
The topic had come up super casually. I was just making small talk, following the instructions of my American Girl Doll self-help book of ages past, asking random little useless questions, so that we could get to know each other better.
But it already felt, from the first moment we met, that we had known each other for years.
Anyway, I had asked what his favorite flavor of ice cream was. He asked what ice cream was.
And then I nearly died internally.
Loki POV:
I repeated my question. She was still staring at me, a dazed expression in her eyes, the type that usually only appears on the victims of my brother's accursed hammer.
"What is it, exactly?"
She woke up. "It's, um, this, you know, frozen cream. It comes in a cone, or a cup, or wrapped in rice dough or in a cone of…biscuit?"
She shook her head. "Ugh, never mind, I'll just show you."
She pointed resolutely to an eating establishment next to us. "Baskin Robbins. 31 flavors."
"That seems a bit excessive."
"Oh, a lot of places have way more, Mr. Loki."
Patty POV:
I ordered the classic: chocolate. On mine I got a whole bunch of toppings, chocolate rocks, M&Ms, brownies, cookie dough…I decided not to overwhelm Mr. Loki and just got him vanilla. Seems like something he would like.
He paid. He insisted, I swear. I was just the teensiest bit relieved, though, since I am currently broke.
Also, how does he even have money? Does he have a job? I really just can't imagine him working like, you know, a "mortal". Question for another time, except that it would be really rude to ask.
He just looked at the cone. "Exactly how am I supposed to consume this?" He asked.
"You just lick it. Like this." I demonstrated. Which was hard 'cause mine was in a cup and all.
Oh, man, his expression will last me for years. The look of transcendental awe that shone on his face. Positively beautiful.
"Amazing."
That was all he said, super calmly, but it was great. Freaking great.
"I have never tasted anything like this ever before."
"Wait. Like, ever?" I asked.
"No. Asgard was never really the type of place for sweet things."
Wow. That was just a bout the saddest thing I had ever heard, like in my entire life! Ii was just about to tell him so when I looked up and saw Ms. Stark.
For some reason, she was wearing a really terrible disguise, a purple wig with giant 70s style neon pink sunglasses. I wonder why she was doing that. But who cares, she's here!
I jumped up and waved. "Hi, Ms. Stark! Come join us! The ice cream is great!"
Instead of coming over she made these weird hand signals. I waved more. "Over here, Ms. Stark!"
Mr. Loki coughed. "She seems to want to converse with you alone."
"Oh, OK, BRB!" I ran over to her. Ms. Stark guided me into a corner.
" , this is kinda weird." I said.
She shushed me. "Why are you hanging out with him?" She whispered.
Huh. That was a weird question. Who wouldn't want to hang out with him? He was really cool! I cocked my head. "I'm just showing him around. And would you believe that Mr. Loki's never had ice cream before? This is his freaking first time!"
Ms. Stark ignored me. "So you're safe?"
I blinked in confusion. "Yeah. Why wouldn't I be?"
Ms. Stark gave me her Patty-you're-crazy look. "Uh…he's Loki. Loki. Need I say more?"
She shooed me back, but continued to watch me creepily.
"Wow, Mr. Loki, Ms. Stark can be really weird sometimes!" I put a spoonful of my overly complicated ice cream in my mouth. Crud I love ice cream. Especially free ice cream. Especially especially free ice cream enjoyed with a super cool friend.
I told Mr. Loki that. I don't think he's ever had a friend before.
And I've never had a friend like him before.
Sorry if Patty seems naive, dense, ridiculous, or whatever. I just really wanted to emphasize her innocence and compassion, how she sees the good in everything and everyone. So a lot of things just go waaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyy over her head.
AND I'm thinking of doing a whole bunch of stories in this crazy little Avengers universe. Thoughts and suggestions are very welcome!
I love you all! Thanks for reading!
