have quite a bit of this written already so I will try to post once or twice a week as I edit. This is just a short chapter but I'm aiming between 2,000-3,000 words for each chapter.

Thalia sat on her best friend's bed, looking over at her uncle's house. Percy was going to be living here, and she wasn't sure she could bear it. The last time she had seen him, he was in a hospital room after he overdosed. Not to mention, she helped Paul break down the door and roll Percy to his side. It was the worst experience of her life.
"What's going on Thals?" Annabeth leaned over, a worried expression on her face.
"It's my cousin. He's moving in with my Uncle Poseidon, his dad."
Annabeth furrowed his brows, "he's the one who was in the hospital right? You went to visit for the holidays."
Thalia swallowed, "yeah. He's gotten himself in trouble, and well, I'm going over tomorrow because he will likely be In withdrawal. I don't want my uncle to be alone." Thalia pulled her knees to her chest. She didn't want to see Percy like that again, but she also knew he needed support. At least Nico said he'd stop by.
"Why is he in California now?"
Thalia shrugged, "his mom hopes he will get clean. Cut him off from New York so he can't get to his usual dealer. He's a good guy when he's clean, but man, he's an ass when he's getting there."
"It's probably the cravings. They make medicine to help with that. Does he go to AA?" Annabeth was the smartest person she knew. If anyone would know how to help, it was Annabeth.
Thalia shook her head, "No, but he will be. It's part of his court order. This is depressing. Can we talk about something else?"
Annabeth laid down next to her, "well do you have any plans for the end of summer? Do you want to go to the movies the last weekend of freedom?"
Thalia grinned, "I wouldn't have it any other way. Are we inviting everyone?"
Annabeth snorted, "of course! It'll be our last hoora. Will your cousin want to come?"
Thalia shrugged, "I can ask. He's usually miserable the first week of sobriety. He might be a Debbie downer."
Annabeth opened her book as Thalia pulled her switch out. "We'll invite him anyway. He's going to need some friends." They fell into a comfortable silence as Annabeth read and Thalia played Pokémon. They both jumped when they heard a car door slam shut. They carefully pulled back the curtains, and Thalia mumbled under her breath, "he lost weight." She loved her uncle but was still angry that he chose not to be in her cousin's life. Percy had his backpack slung over his shoulder. Thalia's shoulder sank as she noticed his disheveled hair and obvious weight loss.
Annabeth, her loving friend, knew Thalia like the back of her hand. "Want to listen to Green Day and dance around like nobody is watching?" They always danced when things were rough. It was a way to dispel the stress.
"Hell yeah!"

Thalia sighed as she left Annabeth's house. Her friend promised she'd run over if she needed her to. Nico would be coming a few hours later to help take over. It was going to be a rough day, and she had mentally prepared for it. Or at least tried to.
Her hand shook as she knocked on the door. "Coming!" Poseidon opened the door. His robe was still wrapped around him, and Thalia wanted to laugh at the whale slippers he was wearing. It was shocking how much he and Percy resembled each other.
"Rough night, Uncle Poseidon?"
"He uh-"
Thalia stepped inside, "Don't worry, this isn't my first rodeo with him like this." She cringed as she heard the gagging in the living room. Thalia went straight to the couch, her cousin currently hacking in a trash can.
"Why are you here?" He snapped. She tried to ignore the anger bubbling in her chest.
She crossed her arms. "Is that how you want to say hello to the cousin who helped save your life?" She pulled the blanket up his shoulders as he shivered uncontrollably.
"Sorry. Ugh I hate this."
She sighed and sat next to him as her uncle brought water, saltines, and his medication. "Well, make it stick this time, and it'll be the last time. Nico is coming, too. So suck it up because you won't get away from us this time." Jason had decided to stay home. She knew he hated seeing Percy like this.
Percy sighed as his eyes drifted closed, "I will try." Thalia looked at him, remembering that he said the very same words last time before the worst night of her life.
Poseidon sat in the chair, looking exhausted. "How long does withdrawal last? I don't know what I expected, but this wasn't it."
Thalia felt her heart sink, knowing he felt guilty for staying in California. "Uncle P, he will get through this. Last time he went through this he was in the hospital and it was rough. When is his first meeting?"
"Once he gets through this. I can't help but feel like I could have prevented this."
"You couldn't have known uncle P." She winced as Percy leaned over into his puke bucket. "It's usually a lot of puking and insults. But once he's through this he's usually super crappy with everyone. It takes a good month before he's actually human again."
"Hey! I'm right here." He mumbled into the couch.
"Deal with it because you know I'm right." Thalia looked back at her uncle, who was trying his best not to fall asleep. "When did it start?"
"3 am. Apparently withdrawal can start 36 hours after the last dose he took. It's been non-stop."
"Go get some sleep, Uncle P. I'll watch him until Nico gets here." His shoulders sagged as he walked up the stairs, mumbling how he'd only sleep for an hour.
Percy looked up at her and smiled, his eyes still glazed over. "Thank you, Pine cone face. You were always there for me."
She put her hand on his shoulder, "Put me through this again, and I'll let you choke."
"Love you too." His words were slurred as he drifted off to sleep. She looked at her cousin and covered his feet with the blanket. He always had this little habit of rubbing his feet together before falling asleep.
Percy slept for a few hours while Thalia watched Friends on the TV. She was bored, texting Sally about how Percy was doing and begging Annabeth to get Pokémon on her switch. Unfortunately, she couldn't get Annabeth on board. She looked at her cousin again, his pale face beaded with sweat, and he mumbled in his sleep. It took her back to that night, and she tried to shut it out, but it was the most terrifying thing she'd ever witnessed.
Thalia was so ready to go see Deadpool in theaters with her cousin. Unfortunately, he lost his license for being an idiot, so she had to go pick him up. She pulled up the mat, knowing she'd find a key to the apartment. When she opened it, Paul was running back to Percy's room.
"Mr. Blowfis, what's going on?" She rushed after him as he rammed his shoulder into the door.
"He locked himself in his room. He left his phone on the table and some kid named Octavian said he hoped he liked the new batch. I think he took something. Percy open the door!"
"Kick it down!" Paul rammed the door, busting the lock as they pushed through the broken door. Percy was on his back, lifeless. Paul rushed to him, rolling him on his side so he didn't choke. The empty bag was on his desk with the residue of powder on it. How much did he take? They were supposed to celebrate Thanksgiving tomorrow, and Sally was so excited to have Thalia over.
"Call 911. Percy, can you hear me?" She didn't know how she did it, with tears blurring her vision, but she made the call and prayed to whoever would listen to keep her cousin alive for Christmas.
Thalia wiped her eyes when Nico finally arrived. "You okay?" He asked. He knew how scared she was that night and was the only one with whom she shared her fears of losing Percy.
"Yeah, I just keep going to that night. I'm going to go get food do you mind?"
Nico waved, "I got it."
Returning with takeout, Thalia found Nico keeping watch over Percy. The three of them took turns supporting him through the first two days, enduring his insults and pleas to let him take something. Thalia only left when her uncle insisted, needing a moment to get cleaned up.
