Chapter Two: Today's the Day: Part Two

Victor returned to the stands, where Pitt excitedly greeted him. "Great job Victor, I knew you would win!" Victor winced in response. "Well that makes one of us. I felt like a complete amateur out there. I shouldn't have let myself lose that many life points in one turn." Victor and Pitt both sat down and looked out towards the exam field, as Pitt spoke. "Well, you are an amateur, we all are. That's why we're trying to get in to duel academy after all, to get better and become pro duelists." Victor mentally acknowledged that Pitt had a point, but it was tough for him not to critique himself, he'd always had that problem. He glanced over to the field where Jane was dueling. There was no monitor or display for any of the Duel fields, so there was no telling what the current life point count was.

"Alright Applicant, I've got three mighty beasts on the field, while you only have a troublesome turtle. You may have kept it around this turn, but on my next turn I'll destroy it, and then the rest of your life points. Your Move!."Proctor: Nin-Ken Dog,Level 4,WIND,Beast-Warrior,ATK:1800,DEF:1000, Vorse Raider,Level 4,DARK,Beast-Warrior,ATK:1900,DEF:1200 Sengenjin,Level 8, EARTH,Beast-Warrior,ATK:2750,DEF:2500. Jane: Gem-Turtle, Level 4, EARTH,Rock,ATK:0,DEF:2000.

Despite the dire situation, Jane didn't lose her steely gaze that she'd had since turn one. She knew that if she panicked, the Duel was lost. "I draw..." when she saw what she drew, a small smile appeared on her face. "First I activate the spell card Gem-Knight Fusion! This card lets me Fusion Summon a Gem-Knight monster with cards from my hand or field. From my hand, I fuse Gem Knights Tourmaline, Garnet and Lapis to Fusion Summon, Gem-Knight Master Diamond!!"

Gem-Knight Master Diamond,Level 9,EARTH,Rock/Fusion/Effect,ATK:2900,DEF:2500. "Master Diamond is already stronger than Sengenjin, but with its effect, it gets even stronger. Master Diamond gains 100 ATK for each Gem monster in my graveyard,which including the three I sent there to Fusion summon, brings the total to ten!" Master Diamond ATK:2900-3900

"Now attack Nin-Ken Dog with Gem-Sword Supreme Slash!" 3900-1800=2100. Proctor Steve LP:2700-2100=600 "Good move Applicant, but this Duel isn't over yet!" "Actually Proctor, it is. I activate my face down card, Pyroxene Fusion. This lets me bring out a 'Gem-Knight' fusion monster by banishing monsters from my graveyard. So I'll banish Garnet and Lapis to summon Gem-Knight Zirconia."

Gem-Knight Zirconia,Level 8,EARTH,Rock/Fusion,ATK:2900,DEF:2500. "Zirconia, attack Vorse Raider!" 2900-1900=1000

Proctor Steve LP:600-1000=0

The Proctor smiled. "Well done Applicant, that was quite a comeback. The exam panel and I are in agreement, welcome to Duel Academy."

Jane returned his smile with one of her own. "Thank you for a good duel, Proctor." She the walked back to the stands.

Pitt was the first to greet her. "Awesome comeback Jane! At least, I assume it was a comeback, you don't usually bring out two big monsters like that when your life points are high."

Jane chuckled at her friends enthusiasm. "Yes Pitt, it was a comeback. The proctor was using a power deck with damage spells, so I had to strategize accordingly."

Victor chimed in "By that do you mean 'wait until you could get Gem-Knight Fusion because you were saving Pyroxene Fusion?'"

Jane laughed lightly, "Something like that. I take it you passed too, Victor?"

"Yeah, but nothing as epic as your play." The three friends simply enjoyed each other's company, watching the other applicants duel, until the loudspeaker broke their comfortable silence.

"Pitt Toru, please report to Exam Field One"

Pitt didn't respond, to which Victor took notice. "Hey Pitt, it's your turn to duel..." Pitt did not respond, seemingly distracted by the other exam duels. "Pitt...Pitt!...PITT!!"

This finally got his attention. "Huh, yeah, what's up?"

Jane facepalmed at Pitts obliviousness. "It's your turn Pitt, they called you to field one already. Hurry up before they disqualify you!"

"Quit your worrying, I'm going. Your'e such a worry-wart." Pitt teased her as he left the stands and went towards the exam field. Victor and Jane watched their friend, and wondered how difficult his duel would be. Janes duel had been lengthy, and despite Victors duel being relatively short, it was no less challenging. The proctor looked annoyed. "Well, you sure took your time getting here,applicant. You do realize that this is your one and only chance to get in to duel academy, right?"

Pitt wasn't fazed by the proctors words or annoyed tone. "Yeah, sorry. I was watching everyone else duel. In fact, I'd like to make this quick so I can get back to my friends, if that's okay with you" Although there was a good amount of distance between the exam fields and the stands, Victor and Jane could see the forehead veins on Pitts proctor bulge in irritation.

"Impudent slacker, the only thing quick will be your defeat!." The proctor slammed his deck into his duel disk, Pitt gently placed his in.

"LET'S DUEL!!" "LET'S DUEL!!"

Proctor Dave LP:4000

The Proctor made the first move. "Draw! I summon Marauding Captain in attack mode, and his ability lets me special summon a level 4 or lower monster from my hand. So come out, Nin-Ken Dog!" Marauding Captain,Level 4,EARTH,Warrior/Effect,ATK:1200,DEF:400. Nin-Ken Dog,Level 4,EARTH,Beast-Warrior,ATK:1800,DEF:1000. I set two cards face down, your move, slacker!"

Pitt yawned openly. "Geeze, you sure are angry. I draw. Firstly, I activate the spell 'Plush of Greed'. As Pitt played his spell, a plushie version of the Pot of Greed appeared on the field. "By sending one 'Fluffal monster from my hand to the graveyard, I can draw three cards. Now I activate Polymerization, Letting me fuse monsters from my hand. Edge Imp Sabres, and Fluffal Bear, fuse to form, Frightfur Tiger!" Frightfur Tiger,Level 6,DARK,Fiend/Fusion/Effect,ATK:1900,DEF:1200. "When Frightfur Tiger is fusion summoned, for each monster used to bring it out, I can destroy one card on the field. Since I used two monsters, I'll destroy both of your facedowns." As Pitt said this, Frightfurs Tigers arms split off from its body and launched towards the proctors facedown cards. "Now I activate the continuous spell Frightfur Sanctuary by sending one card from my hand and two monsters from my extra deck to my graveyard. Now I activate the spell Frightfur Reborn, which lets me special summon a 'Frightfur' monster from my graveyard. I summon Frightfur Daredevil in attack mode." Frightfur Daredevil, Level 8 ,DARK,Fiend/Fusion/Effect,ATK:3000,DEF:2200. "Finally I activate the last card in my hand, the Frightfur Fusion spell. This lets me banish monsters from my field or graveyard to Fusion summon a 'Frightfur' monster. I banish 'Edge Imp Sabres' and 'Fluffal Bear' from my graveyard to summon Frightfur Wolf!"

Frightfur Wolf,Level 6,DARK,Fiend/Fusion/Effect,ATK:2000,DEF:1500.

The Proctor was shocked. "Three fusion monsters on your first turn?! Unbelievable!"

"Believe it! I told you I wanted this to be over quickly. Frightfur Wolf can attack once for each monster used to bring it out, two fusion materials means Frightfur Wolf attacks both of your monsters." As Frightfur Wolf attacked it destroyed both of the proctors monsters. Proctor Dave LP: 4000-3800-3000. "Now, Frightfur Daredevil, end this duel with a direct attack, Daredevil Doomsday!!" Frightfur Daredevil charged with a hideous cackle, sending the proctor flying back.

Proctor Dave LP:3000-0.

Jane and Victor were stunned in silence. They had been watching the Duel, and while there weren't any visible life point counters, they knew it was Pitt's first turn, and the Duel was already over. "...WHAT THE HELL?!?!?!"

This was also the reaction from Dr.Crowler, who was equally in disbelief. "Never in all my years have I seen an applicant, a NOVICE, win a duel on their very first turn... he must have cheated. Have security look at his duel disk immediately!" Rather than being congratulated, Pitt was brought into a different room, where his duel disk was checked several times to see if it had been rigged. After about 40 minutes of this, Dr Crowler himself walked into the room. "Hello Young Mr.Toru, my apologies for all of the difficulties, but we have never had a duelist win their test duel on their first turn, so we needed to take proper steps in making sure everything was legitimate. I have been assured by several technicians that your disk and deck have not been tampered with. So I would like to congratulate you on an astounding victory and be the very first to welcome you to Duel Academy." Pitt smiled. "Thanks Dr.Crowler, but can I get back to my friends now?"

Dr Crowler held up his hand with one finger pointing upward. "One moment, before you go, I'd like to give you something." Dr.Crowler handed Pitt a blue blazer. "Normally you would have to wait until you get to Academy Island before you find out which dorm your'e in, but you have proven yourself worthy of being in Obelisk Blue. Congratulations, Pitt Toru." Pitt wasn't sure if he cared about which dorm he was in, but he loved getting gifts, and blue was his favorite color, so he immediately put the blue blazer on. "Awesome, thank you!" Pitt then went back to the stands, where his friends had been waiting anxiously, worried when they saw their friend being led away from the field by security.

Jane was the first to speak. "There you are, what happened??" Pitt shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly "Meh, they thought I cheated, then when they realized I didn't, they gave me this blue jacket." Victor was surprised "What, they already put you in a dorm?? Damn, they must have been impressed." Jane nodded. "Indeed, well, they are about to call Examinee #1 for their duel. Since we all dueled and made it in, why don't we go after we watch this duel?" Victor and Pitt both nodded.

It took a moment before Pitt fully realized what Jane had just said, his brain zoned out when he heard the word 'duel', that usually being enough info for him. But he had to ask something. "Wait, #1? Why has it taken this long for the #1 person to duel that we're in the 100's already?".

Victor shrugged as he replied, "While you were gone, the exam panel said something about 'Saving the best for last', I guess it's since #1 had the highest written score out of everyone."

Pitt wasn't sure how much sense that actually made, but he supposed it didn't have to. After all, maybe this guys duel would be worth the wait.

The loudspeaker called out. "Examinee #1, Bastion Misawa to Exam Field Two please."
