Trigger Warning: Bullying that borders assault; Attempted suicide
If you are having suicidal or depressive thoughts please do not read this and please do get help in whatever form that is for you. You will get through this.
Disclaimer: I have not experienced suicidal thoughts. If I get something wrong, I apologize.
There were a couple mistakes I made in Chapter 1
1. I added a Trigger Warning I forgot in Chapter 1.
2. The Japanese school year starts in April and if you aren't 6 by April 1st then you start at 7 (according to a couple google searches and reddit posts. If any of you know that this is wrong please tell me.) I thought they started at 5 and so all the dates and ages for Izuku are wrong. Izuku is 12 at the end of the 6 (now 8) year time skip. This also means that he will turn 16 at the start of the Training Camp Arc. Bakugo will be 16 at the beginning of the school year. I will not be able to follow all of the rules of Japanese schools but I will try to follow the timetable.
Chapter 2
Izuku rushes into his homeroom and jumps into his seat right as the bell rings. He groans in pain as the wound he got yesterday flares up. His homeroom teacher walks in and looks at Izuku with thinly veiled disdain. The teacher says, "Welcome to your first day of junior-high. This is not primary school. You will have to take this much more seriously. If you are a troublemaker or just slack off we can and will expel you." He finishes the sentence as he looks at Izuku and then he takes out a stack of paper and says, " When I call your name please come up and collect your schedule. Then report to your first period class."
Izuku waits till his name is called, towards the end of the list, and gets up and heads to the teacher's podium. The teacher hands the paper to Izuku and says, "Get out of here." Izuku grabs the paper and rushes out of his class and heads to first period, all the while muttering to himself, "Please not Bakugo. Please not Bakugo. Please not Bakugo."
Beside the occasional person tripping him in the halls, he gets to the class alright. He opens the door and is immediately shaking. Bakugo is over by the windows, sitting on his desk. Izuku shrinks in on himself and shuffles over to his seat.
A little while later the teacher walks in and again Izuku is shaking. He had hoped that he wouldn't get the English teacher he got last year but again his hopes were dashed. All he could was hope that his teacher would take pity and have mercy on him.
No mercy was given to Izuku that day.
The teacher opened the class and Izuku knew that he was screwed. "Today we will be having a benchmark test. I'm confident in most of your capabilities in English but a couple of your peers ... not so much," The teacher says with a glare towards Izuku at the end. The class noticed that little detail and everyone immediately glared, or sneered in Bakugo's case, and the teacher barely hid a smug smirk behind his hand.
She passed out the quizzes and walked back up to her podium. "You will have the whole class period to finish this. I expect most of you to pass. Start now."
The class started furiously scribbling the answers down with a couple people stealing glares at Izuku every once in a while. Izuku sped through the test and went to turn it in only 10 minutes later, which only earned him more glares from his peers.
The teacher snatched his paper from him, flipped through the pages for a second and then took a red pen and wrote a zero on the front. She sneered at him and said, loud enough for the whole class to hear, "I don't know who you're trying to fool Mr. Midoriya but I know and you know that you couldn't have gotten everything right on this. So, how did you cheat?"
"I didn't c-c-cheat. I j-j-just used what you t-t-taught us."
"So now you're accusing me of cheating."
"N-n-no of course not Sensei. It's just that I d-d-didn't cheat."
With a condescending tone she replies, "Midoriya, we both know you did. So you can either admit it and take the zero or I will give you after-school detention. Your choice."
Izuku, not wanting to spend anymore time with this teacher says, "I'm sorry, Sensei. I cheated"
With a smug expression on her face she hands him back his paper and says, "Go back to your seat. We'll talk about it after class." During the conversation the class was chuckling. Now they've broken out into full on laughter.
Izuku sits back down, to the background noise of his classmates, and lays his head down on the desk to wait till the end of class.
The bell rings but Izuku stays seated and waits for the teacher to call him up. She motions him over with her hand and he grabs his bag and heads to her desk.
She scolds him, "Now you cheated so obviously you're going to get a zero. And I promised to not give you detention for owning up to cheating so, get out." She finishes with a jab towards the door and Izuku meekly walks out of the classroom and heads to period two.
He gets to the class ten minutes late and the teacher asks him, "Do you have a pass?" Izuku shakes his head and the teacher replies, "I've been told by your peers that you had to stay back to talk with Sensei Kutsuki but since you don't have a pass I'm going to have to write you up."
Izuku quietly mumbles, "Ok-k-k, Sensei."
And his own private hell continues on.
An Hour and a Half Later
There were only a couple things that Izuku was more scared of than Bakugo. One of those was lunch.
And as if his day wasn't bad enough already, he tripped not once or even twice but four separate times on his way to the cafeteria. Then people constantly cut in front of him so he was left as the last person to get lunch. He grabbed what was left of the meager pickings and went to sit at the table in the corner he always sat at. But alas the world had it out for him and he was tripped again so he dropped his tray.
He cleaned up the mess he made, under the glares of the teachers and the laughter of his peers. Then once his meal was thoroughly cleaned off of the floor he walked out of the cafeteria towards the staircase that went to the roof. Izuku walked up the stairs and once he stepped into the fresh air of the spring day, he greatly calmed down. He sat against the fence that lined the edge of the roof and closed his eyes to rest.
A Bit Over Two Hours Later
Izuku hated gym. It was when Bakugo had free rein to do whatever he wished and that was most commonly torturing Izuku. So when Izuku walked out of the locker room already covered in bruises, no one batted an eye.
A few minutes later, the PE teacher said, "Today we'll be playing dodgeball." He put Bakugo, his lackeys and most of the people who bullied Izuku on one team and whoever was leftover on the other.
Then he blew the whistle and the game began.
The first thing Bakugo did was run to the center of the gym, grab a couple balls and throw them back to his team. Meanwhile, Izuku's team got as far away from him as possible and Izuku just bowed his head and got ready for the beating.
Bakugo was first, with an explosive powered throw, which hit Izuku in the forehead, snapping his head back. The next couple throws hit Izuku in the arms, legs and gut. The coach blew his whistle and Izuku hobbled towards the bleachers. The rest of his team was beaten much less brutality and another game began.
As soon as Izuku walked onto the court, a wall of dodgeballs flew towards him. Bakugo's, which was the first and most powerful throw, hit him square in the face and he heard a loud crack as blood started pouring from his nose. The next one hit him in the gut causing him to keel over. The following assault, which happened over the next ten minutes, ended with Izuku curled up in a ball on the ground with Bakugo standing over him laughing.
Bakugo snarled at Izuku and said, "You know what, you stupid Deku, there's one way you can be a hero. Take a swan dive off a roof and hope for a better quirk in the next life." Bakugo then walked away leaving a whimpering and sobbing Izuku on the ground.
By the time Izuku had managed to get up off the floor and change school had ended. So he grabbed his bag and began to hobble his way home.
On Izuku's way home he had to walk through an underpass and right as he was about to walk into the sunlight he heard a clatter behind him. He swung his head around and saw a mass of putrid green with two yellow eyes.
Izuku gasps and says, "What th-" right before the sludge forces it way down his throat. The sludge surrounds him and says, "Calm down. It'll only hurt for a little bit and then nothing will hurt again."
Izuku flails about and tries to rip the slime off of his face to no avail. The villain says, "Geese kid, you're strugglin' for nothing. Just calm down." Izuku keeps flailing but it gets slower and weaker as his vision fills with black dots. Right before his vision fully clouds over Izuku says, "I guess this is it, huh. I'll never be able to be a hero"
"C'mon kid, c'mon. Don't die on me," is what Izuku hears as he wakes up. He opens his eyes to see All Might standing over him. All Might sighs in relief at the sight of Izuku waking up and says, "Sorry about that. I was chasing him earlier and he got away."
Izuku responds, "It's ok. You saved me in the end so it's ok."
"Thanks, Young..."
"Midoriya, Midoriya Izuku."
"Well since you're alright, Young Midoriya, I'm going to head off to turn this guy in," and as he finishes the sentence he motions towards the soda bottles in his pocket. All might then starts walking towards the end of the underpass as Izuku calls out, "Wait All Might, I have a question."
All Might turns around and says, "What is your question, Young Midoriya?"
"Can a person with a weak quirk be a hero," answers Izuku with a sad glint in his eye as he looks at the ground.
All Might walks over and puts his hand on Izuku's shoulder as he says, "I'm deeply sorry, Young Midoriya, but hero work is very dangerous and without a strong quirk you'd be a threat to yourself and those around you. But you could work in the police or even as a doctor. Those are both very important jobs," ends All Might almost to happily.
"Oh, ok. I understand," responds a sullen Izuku and Izuku watches as All Might walks out of the underpass and jumps off into the sky. Izuku then continues on his way home.
A click was heard as Izuku shuts the door to his home. Inko calls from the kitchen, "Oh, darling, you're finally home. Where were you?"
Izuku responds, "Sorry, Mom. I took the long way home."
"Ok. Dinner's almost ready so go get changed and washed up." Izuku, thanks whatever god that exists for not having to explain the slime on his clothes and limps towards his room. He enters, shutting the door behind him and changes for dinner. Afterwards, he throws his clothes in his hamper and heads to the bathroom. When there he patches up his wounds and washes the slime out of his hair and off of his arms and face. Then he hears Hisashi call from the living room, "I'm home!"
Izuku walks towards the living room and says, "Welcome home Dad."
Hisashi wraps him in a hug and says, "And hello to you too, my little one." Izuku wiggles out of the hug but with a bright (fake) smile on his face. Ink interrupts them, "Come on you two, dinner's done." Hisashi wraps his arm around Izuku's shoulders and guides him into the dining room.
Hours after dinner and after Izuku should be asleep, he's rolled up into a ball, on top of his blankets, with his hands covering his face. His eyes are glossy and he seems to be barely holding back tears. He's mumbling, "Of course I can't, I'm too weak," over and over. Then he pulls his hands away from his head and says ,"Of course," with too much sadness and determination for a 12 year old.
"I can just listen to Kachan. I'm too useless to do anything else." Izuku then jumps from his bed, clad in plain emerald green sleepwear, and grabs his black hoodie off of his desk chair. He grabs a blank piece of paper off of his deck and takes a couple minutes writing something down. He then puts on his shoes and slips out of his window onto the fire escape and heads down it.
A panting Izuku walks out into the fresh night air. It took him a while but he finally found the perfect place. It was an abandoned parking garage. He squeezed under the chained up gate and took the stairs to the top floor. He walks over to the crumbling wall around the edge and steps up onto it. He says, "I hope that this makes you happy Kachan, and I'm sorry Mom and Dad. I'm sorry for being weak and useless. I'm sorry for disappointing you."
He closes his eyes and leans forward while saying, "Goodbye."
As Izuku falls towards the ground he hears a gasp behind him and feels something wrap around his stomach before it snaps in tension and he stops. Then his savior says, "Why would you do this, kid."
